Need these to pair for surround sound

I just purchased 2 Play 1's, a Sub and a PlayBase. I have connected and tuned the system successfully. Unfortunately, I am not getting Dolby 5.1 surround sound. I believe the problem might be that my TV does not pass through Dolby 5.1. I connected my PlayBase to my TV through my TV's optical audio out port (an adapter was required), but sound comes through in "Stereo" mode. I verified this on my Sonos App by looking at "Settings" and then "About My Sonos" which shows an "Audio In" note regarding my PlayBase that indicates "Stereo" not "Dolby Digital 5.1". Also, it is obvious from listening to the system that I am not receiving Dolby 5.1. My TV is a Panasonic model TCP60GT30. In my TV's user manual, it states as follows: "You can enjoy your Home theater by connecting a Dolby Digital (5.1 channel) decoder and "Multi Channel" amplifier to the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT terminals." Does this mean I need a new TV, or another piece of equipment in order to get optimal sound out of my Sonos sy

This was on top of what I saw from other people. Well, it's now the day. It's a massive ebay sale along with Alexa. I bought 4 google home's, 2 x Sony (HT-ST9 - with google cast built in), 3 audiocast dongles, dumped apple music in favor of sonos, and it all work's. It's truly multi-home. I created zones and now my google home projects music where I want it, how I want it, in overlapping zones if required. The last insult was the release of the playbase with optical only support. Just had to post to let you know that I would follow up on this. Sony is embracing updating their tech through software with google home (shocking, but you might as well trade spots with them). I currently have soundbar which has amazing sound, however when I turn the volume up a bit louder for music the bass becomes distorted. I have turn down bass on room equalizer to the point it is basically on its lowest setting, this helps some but should I have to do this? My main question is if I add the subwoofer will all bass be dispursed from sub eliminating distortion of bass from soundbar. I find this distortion of bass only really happens with music, movies/tv is fine,

I have a Playbar & Sub with Samsung Tv (it doesn't pass through digital audio) connected to the Playbar optical input. Sky HD, Bluray DVD and Apple TV all connected to the TV by HDMI's. All Audio In received by the Playbar is Stereo but I'm looking to get the best audio possible and aiming for DD 5.1 assuming that will improve the audio quality for my set up? I'm not looking to add Play 1's as rear speakers at least not in the foreseeable. I've played around with the digital optical plugging Sky directly into the Playbar and get differing results depending on the audio format of the programme being broadcast. In cases where DD 5.1 is received by the Playbar all is good, however, when Stereo or DD 2.0 is received the audio is out of sync with the TV. I have ordered a dual optical in switch with single out to connect the TV and Sky to the Playbar but given the syncing issues I wonder whether it's worth it and indeed whether the audio will be noticeably improved for my current se

I hab=ve the above NUVO system and I am trying to replace an iPod dock with a SONOS Connect. Should be as simple as unplugging the dock and plugging that connection to the Connect. BUT all I get is a rhythmic thumping from my system. Any suggestions? I know the NUVO is an old system but it is working OK

Hello, I have the current setup: Apple 4K TV connected to the Sony XBR65X930E TV using HDMI 2 XBOX One X Connected to same TV using HDMI 3 TV connected to playbar using optical audio Sub and two play 1 to create surround sound - connected through ethernet for one of the play 1. When i use the Xbox One games, i see 5.1 under Sonos App, settings, About. Apple 4K TV shows stereo even though i adjusted the selection within ATV sound settings to Dolby 5.1 - i get sound but Sonos app shows Stereo and not 5.1 I tried Netflix, CBS, NBC, and FOX apps within Apple TV and only get Stereo. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Hello, Already owner of a Play-5 I am currently following with interest the arrival of the playbar. I have 1 question regarding the Ethernet connection of the PlayBar. I could see there are 2 ports and in the specifications it is mentioned : 'A single Ethernet port can connect PLAYBAR to a wired home network. A second Ethernet port can be used to share wireless control.' My Play-5 is currently connected with Eternet to the router. If I would buy a playbar, it would take the place of the Play-5. the Play-5 would then be moved to another room. So will the Playbar act as the Play-5 that means be the entry point to the router to then connect other components ? Thanks for your feedback. Regards, Régis

Recently I've been experiencing a problem whereby my 2 Play3 speakers, which are connected as Surround speakers to my Playbar, regularly cut-out and fall silent for about 20 seconds, before coming back on again. How can I fix this issue?

Hi- I currently have the 5.1 home theater system connected to a Samsung. I only use it to watch blue ray movies and cable via DirectTV. The Samsung does not pass 5.1 audio, so I got the Monoprice 4X1 HDMI device. Both the DirectTV cable box and the blue ray player are connected to the Monoprice via HDMI. The Monoprice output line goes to the TV and the digital optic output line from the Monoprice goes directly to the Sonos playbar. I get 5.1 when watching movies and when watching HD channels via DirectTV such as college/pro football. I was just planning on doing the same exact setup with my new 60-inch Sony KDL60W630B/2 until I realized that the Sony can pass through 5.1. I just want to make sure I am correctly conceptualizing this before I set up the system: with the new Sony I can directly attach the blue ray player and cable box to the TV via HDMI and run the digital optic cable from the TV to the playbar. Hello, I have set up my Playbase and it it works great with my Sony TV. During the setup process the Playbase recognized my remote and everything works as desired with one exception. When I change the volume with the remote the TV displays a message that the volume is fixed while the Playbase adjusts its volume. Based on a search of this site, it appears that most people just set the TV volume back to variable to stop the message from being displayed. With this setup, I would guess that when you adjust the volume via the remote that both the TV and the Playbase are changing their respective volumes simultaneously. So, I would like to leave the TV set to fixed but still turn the message off. I realize this is a not a Sonos problem but wondered if someone had encountered this issue and found a solution that turned the message off via a method other than changing the TV volume to variable. Your assistance is appreciated. Chris

Playbar and sub worked with existing TV for 2-3 years (maybe more). Now the 'media room' is gone from the controller as are the Playbar and Sub. When I unplug/replug Playbar and sub the connect right up with white light but can't be seen via controller on iOS or Windows (so I can control the volume). I submitted diagnostics with confirmation number is: 8303812.

I have a sonos playbar, connected optically to a sony TV with optical output with TV speakers turned off, the bar is connected to the bridge as I also have a play5. I got the bar prior to Xmas and have had the following occasional issue which in the last two days has progressed into a regular issue The volume goes out of sync with the displayed volume level To remedy this I turned the volume to zero, sound would still be played at low level from the bar so would then press lower volume (TV still showed zero) till sound stopped coming from the bar. This would normally correct the issue, now more often than not it doesn't. The sound now plays at a low level (some times no volume) even when turned up to max. Have tried powering down all components, checking all connections and settings on T.V

I have a Sky Q box connected to a Sonos Playbar via an optical cable. The box is also connected to my Samsung Smart TV via an HDMI cable. Recently, only the HD channels have been outputting sound - the SD channels produce no sound at all. I have the following Sky Q audio settings configured: Digital audio output HDMI: Dolby Digital Digital audio output optical: Dolby Digital Annoyingly, if I set the optical output to "Normal", I can hear sound from the SD channels. But that means I don't get surround sound from any of the channels. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Many thanks in advance.

I recently bought the Sonos Playbar, Sub, and Sony XBR65900E 4k TV, a Sony UBPX800 Blue-ray Player and an Apple 4k TV. What is the best way to connect these devices to obtain optimal sound and video?

I have invested in a Soundbar and 2x Sonos One for 5.1 Dolby. Playing Bladerunner blue ray via Xbox is impossible as the 5.1 results in voices being inaudible. It all works if I set the Xbox to uncompressed stereo rather than uncompressed 5.1. This is NOT what I bought the system for. In simple terms the system is NOT fit for purpose. How do I resolve this? When will it get fixed. Tried nighttime mode, tried voice enhance... non of them work.

Hi Has anybody tried out the combination LG 75sj955v and Playbar. Does the optical output of the TV has all capabilities for running the Playbar with all sound features? is there a list of compatible TV's? cheers Manuel

I have a samsung tv with optical out, HDMI in, exlink. I currently have my roku connected to my TV through HDMI, but I don't think its outputting 5.1 How Can I remedy this situation. Thanks for all the help!

I recently bough a pair of Play 1's and totally surprised at / impressed with the sound quality! Now I am considering installing a new pair in the living room. I have a TV that has a very low stand (4-5cm) and the Yamaha playbar that I use fits nicely under it. Is it possible to use Play One+Connect with the Yamaha soundbar and use Play One as surround speakers when watching movies, while just using the Play One's when listening music? Any tips will be appreciated!

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to share my quick hack to get some placement of my Sonos 1 for my surround sounds. Due to the lack of reasonably priced and safe stands (have kids) I didnt care for the options out there. I decided, until then, I could make my own and place them behind my couch. Essentially it's a 1x4 cut at an angle and a 6 inch piece to act as the speaker stand. The wood sits behind the couch cushion, I have sticky tape on the bottom of the Sonos 1 and route the cord through the couch. It's not the prettiest, I could paint it but this was my first go. Also, if I redid it, I would have it sit slightly above the cushion, which would be accomplished by just making the angled piece longer, though it would be less stable since the couch back would no longer support it. Thoughts?

So I own an Connect:AMP and a PlayBar. I really love the Sonos line of products. Now, I know it's a premium line of products so discounting products would be suicide unless comparable competition price points drop considerably, is there any talk about the Sonos Bass dropping in price just a hair? $699 ??? Whew! yes, I know the Bose AcousticMass 300 is also $699, so spare me the comparative cost. Despite this, frankly, I'm flabbergasted at the price. In particular when you don't even have an option to utilize a third party wireless sub. I'm not trying to be a nagger, but daaaang, are you getting a lot of sales on these subs to the masses? I could make two car payments at this cost. 🙂

Right now its only capable of showing the white light. A few hours ago it was connected to my router (ethernet) and from cable box (digital audio cable) and working. After what appears to be a controller "update" its unresponsive: 1. will not play audio from the digital audio in 2. refuses to even show up as a connected device on the router after repeated power offs of the router, the playbar, the entire network, etc so I cannot connect to it or configure it 3. won't even factory reset - after power down, I have play/pause held down, power on and its white unblinking light forever. No amber, to light flashes for amber. I held it down for a solid 3-4 min. I guess I'll write in to support but I think at this stage maybe there's no point with this temperamental piece of garbage? Are there any other avenues I can try? Shutoff all power to my house and then hold the button??

I have a PLAYBAR connected to my Samsung TV via optical cable, and two Sonos Ones connected to create surround sound. There is a very noticeable and annoying delay between the audio coming from the PLAYBAR and the audio coming from the rear Sonos One speakers. The PLAYBAR is synced correctly to the tv, so lip sync settings don’t help. Does anyone know how to get them synced properly?
