Controllers and Music services

It should be a very simple product - it just streams audio over WiFi. Yet after many years the initially very buggy software seems to get worse and worse.Every time I change WiFi setup I go through a massive world of pain trying to set up the speakers. This time I simply can’t set them up. Lots of factory resets, lost of trying to upload latest software (9 times out of 10 doesn’t work and gives random error codes, despite following instructions), trying to join the WiFi (again lots of random error messages). The after 3 hours in a cycle of despair, I get one speak to work. The other takes another two hours of going around in circles. That one works - but the other is now no longer working. I go around the cycle again. Now nothing works, despite following all instructions carefully.Anyway, key conclusion is that this is a company which has incredibly poor software management. I switched to a new phone, iPhone 15. The system cannot be found on Sonos app. I removed and downloaded the Sonos app, ios is up to date, and network is the same. Sonos system still works normally on my old phone and my spouse’s phone. Any tips for fixing this? 

It’s now late November and I am still having big delays, occasional speaker dropout and in inability to connect to my Sonos system via the app. this all went really bad after the infamous big app update.Is anybody else still having these issues? And is there any communications coming from Sonos about this? I’ve gone all in on a lot of Sonos kit around my house and the experience, when you consider the cost, is terrible. At times, it’s just not possible to play music, or change the music, to change the volume, or even stop/start it. It’s so frustrating. Seeing the marketing all over the place, which claims to be a premium system, just rubs it in.

Hi there. This issue has been driving me nuts!! And is about to cause me to abandon my entire Sonos echo system and switch to Apple Homepods!! And I have yet to hear a solution from Sonos! (or from other community members on here..)The issue of NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE my recently played songs (played on Apple Music - in its own native app on my ios device) “inside” the Sonos App!  When you are out and about, in the gym, or on the bus etc.. and listen to and discover some new music on Apple Music (while listening via your headphones), and then come back home and be able to continue listening to those albums on your Sonos products. While I do appreciate the great integration of the Apple Music service with the Sonos app, this “missing feature”  has been a HUGE issue for me.  One might say, you just have to “favorite those songs”… But they have not become my favorites yet. I’d like to listen to them a few more times before marking them as such, or before adding them to a pl

Is the available content on all of these platforms limited in supply to Sonos?I maybe can find an episode or two of a podcast, but can’t drill down into the full season list for example. And if I play them through my browser (directly in Spotify or BBC Sounds where I can find them) I can’t push them out to my Sonos system as Spotify itself will only seemingly find Bluetooth devices and BBC sounds doesn’t offer this at all.

Dear Sonos Developers,I am begging you to add a volume control WITH DIGITS now! We have been asking forever. The volume slider should have a “+” and “-” on either end that go up by ONE digit. This is my second time asking for this, many others have the same issue/complaints, and years have gone by. If third-party controllers are being created to address this, someone at Sonos must realize this is a desperately needed feature. Third-party apps with these features means your UI needs to change. Volume control using sliders is terrible. It jumps too loud or too quite and barely works on the iPhone. Sonos has neglected this easy-to-implement feature for far too long. Who will speak to the CEO about this? Please, we are begging you to implement this. What is the point of making feature requests if they are ignored. We are your customers. Please do something now!

HelloI've been desperately holding on to the old app after the car crash that is the new app which ended up on our ipad.One of the features missing in the new app which I suppose is quite niche but means a lot to us is the "add to Spotify playlist" option on the track now playing. When listening to new (to us) music we like to add tracks to our own lists as we go, but to Spotify playlists not sonos ones because we want to be able to use those lists on the train etc.  It's missing from the new app, how do we request it? Ta

I have a MacbookAir on my network upon which is a folder of 4692 songs.  I have added it to my music library, but when shuffled, only 1907 songs appear in the queue.  No amount of tweaking seems to change this situation. I just want all the songs to play in random order.  Is there some other way to achieve this?

Today my Sonos desktop app stopped working correctly on my Macbook Pro laptop.  The desktop app boots up and for a fraction of a second all looks normal, i.e., I see all of the various parts of my Sonos system show up and the music menu on the right etc.  Then all of a sudden that goes away and the app displays a message “Searching for your Sonos System...” This resolves to “Sonos found on this network.  Update your system.  All your settings and services will be saved.”  There are two buttons: “Update” and “More Options...”  I click on Update and I get a pop up window that says “No update required. Your Sonos system is up to date.”  One of the choices under More Options is to reset the app.  If I choose that option, the app closes and nothing happens.  When I re-open the app, it asks if I am connecting to an existing system.  I click the “Connect to existing system” button and it tells me that the connection is successful.  I click the “Done” button and the app goes b

Hoping someone here can help. My system consists of two Play:1s and an Era 100 (each in a different room) and I have a Synology DS218j NAS that stores my music library.For some reason I can no longer play anything from my music library on the Era 100. When I try I get the error “cannot play [track title] access to [nas name\shared folder) is denied”The tracks play fine on my other two speakers so I can’t see that there is any issue with sharing, permissions, firewalls or SMB settings.I’ve reviewed the activity log in Synology and I can see the Play:1’s accessing the NAS via SMB3. The Era 100 does not appear to be even trying to access the NAS as there are no entries in the activity log.I’ve rebooted everything, reset and re-added the Era 100, edited the Unix settings, ticked the NTLMv1 box. I’ve set up a new user account within the NAS specifically for Sonos. Nothing works and now I’m at my wits end.Can anyone offer any tips/solutions? Thanks in ad

I raised this 6 months ago (), but then was hit by the new and “improved” app, so stopped looking into this for a while.  Now back and hoping to get some advice. Nothing has changed in my set up - still using SonosNet with a Play:3 as the speaker hardwired to the router and a mix of Play:1s and Sonos Ones around the house.  2 x Unifi APs hardwired to the router (so not a mesh network). Still get the issue with whichever speaker is playing music, the app loses the speaker so it either shows nothing playing (no album artwork, no controls enabled etc.) or the room itself disappears for a minute or two.  The only way to stop/start the music is directly on the speaker controls. This is only an issue with the Sonos App.  If i used Spotify and connect to the speaker through their app, I have no issues.

I have some suggestions for the new app.They are based on my own usage where I use the different controls in this order of magnitude 1) Track controls (fx skip), 2) Volume, 3) Rooms - and wish the interface would align the controls better for this (easier and more intutive access to 1 over 3). SONOS should be as easy and intuitive to use as any streaming app like Spotify.When listening to playlists or radio I use skip FAR more than changing the volume or switching rooms, and suspect many use it the same, but I don’t think the new app supports that as good or as intuitively as it could.Collapse the search box so it takes up less screen space → If pressed it expands and triggers the keyboard ready for input like now. I don’t want the sonos radio service - so how do I remove it?

I have 2 x Ikea Syfonisks and 1 x Beam (Gen 1). System has been working or for a few years. I usually Airplay from Music app on my iPhone. Now when I try to play to a speaker it connects momentarily (no sound) then just jumps back to the iPhone. All speaker are visible and I don’t get an error just it just won’t ‘stick’ on a speaker (or speakers). The systme works if I play from my Apple Music library within the Sonos app but I prefer to use the Music app directly (and have always done so in the past). I’ve reset the router, switched all the speakers off and on again. No luck, any suggestions?Edit: i just tested from my iMac using Music and I can connect – so presumably this is a Music app on the iPhone problem?

why can't i find sonos tube app on my new android phone?

I got an iPhone 13 pro recently and it won’t recognise or connect to the Sonos S1 app. I’ve tried everything including allowing location services, no VPN etc. Yet the app works fine on my iPad. Judging by previous chats on this, there is clearly a software fault, are you fixing this Sonos?

Hi All, my trusty pair of Sonos fives are playing up. one of the stereo pair of fives disappeared from the app. I factory reset and reconnected and tried anything I could find on the forum. dialogue says setup complete. however, it does not appear on the iOS app or the Mac app. however, It does appear on the the web app...... what to do? cheers, j.

Since a few weeks Sonos never manages to play Spotify. Sonos always loses connection to Spotify according to the error message. (Or rather, Sonos never manages to establish a connection to Spotify - there is never a sound from Spotify on the Sonos system.) I have tried starting music on both the Sonos and Spotify apps, but the same problem persists. I have also tried reinstalling the Sonos and Spotify apps (I run the Sonos 1 app due to the age of my Sonos products). I have also disconnected all Sonos products and unplugged the router and then restarted it all. Nothing helps. Most grateful for guidance on how to solve this problem

If I e.g. select a Spotify playlist from within the Sonos app, the resulting queue will be editable. I.e., I will be able to clear it or move things around.But if I start the same playlist from e.g. the Spotify application on my computer, the queue will just show one item saying “Spotify” and information about the current song that is playing. There is no way to edit the queue.When music is started in this way, I understand that I might not be able to do more advanced queue edits, but I am surprised that I cannot even clear the queue?

I’ve been pretty blessed that my system worked fine through most of the junk app release. Last week my parents asked me to come to their house and help with their system. Speakers (era 100) were all playing music but the app showed no content and volume control, etc acted like it worked but did nothing.  The buttons on the speakers all worked - would switch tracks and adjust volume as expected.  I left there without a solution blaming it on their WiFi.Tonight at my house, my wife’s phone is behaving the same way. Shows no content, volume control on the app changes but doesn’t change speakers. My phone still works fine, iPad won’t work.  is this some sort of bug in the latest update or did all our networks just break at the same time??!!

I have loved! No adored my Sonos setup from speakers to port device through to what was the slick app/controller.One day I woke up and the Sonos app was updated and now it’s the worse thing I’ve ever used, absolutely awful, slow, unresponsive, unable to seamlessly move control from one device to another, but worse of all unable to add new or update existing playlists?!?  Who in the hell approved this? Being able to create and amendment playlists was one of the fundamental basic uses of the Sonos app and now it’s gone.I recently cancelled my new speaker purchase as I am considering moving away from Sonos now as this has become unbearable. 

Trying to add my wife to our system. When she downloads S1 and goes to join existing system, it’s not found. She is on the same WiFi network as the system, has tried deleting and the reinstalling the app, to no avail. This shouldn’t be this difficult. 

I'm going to do some individual posts for each Sonos App feature I'd like to see.It would be nice to be able to rename all the icons, "top songs" isn't a big help. These from Amazon Music.  

I have a medium sized Sonos music library on a Windows server (\\servername\Music) that has worked well. Recently I added a few albums, tracks and artists but they don’t show up after “Update Music Library Now” on my PC desktop. I have removed and re-added the library, uninstalled and re-installed the controller, rebooted my Sonos 5, rebooted my desktop, and rebooted my server. I have double- and triple-checked the mounted network share, and all of those albums, artists, and tracks are definitely there.What’s up?
