Amazon Alexa and Sonos

I have 3 rooms that I like to group together. I did this in the Alexa app and called them "Everything". If I say "Alexa play Tom Petty on Everything" it plays Amazon music great but if I say "Alexa play Tom Petty radio from Pandora on Everything" it only plays on the Echo and not the Sonos.

I have echo dots and echo show's sprinkled around my home. My Echo Dots / Echo Shows have names that are concise to make it easy to use Alexa commands like "Alexa, drop in on the Kitchen", or "Alexa, call the Master Bedroom". However, I also have similarly named Sonos Connect Amps tied to the built-in speakers in each room. For example, in Sonos, my Sonos Connect Amp that drives my master bedroom is simply called "Master Bedroom". I also have rooms that have in-ceiling speakers powered by a Sonos Connect amp that does not share the name of the Echo Dot/Show. "Dining Room" and "Piano Room" all have speakers/connect amp but no corresponding Echo Dot/Show. This has resulted in Amazon Alexa app recognizing the Sonos Connect Amps that have names that do not conflict with existing Echo Dot/Show devices. I have been a Sonos user for only about a month. I had an Echo dot so used the line-in config. with Spotify. When the announcement came out on the 4th, I switched over to the networked Sonos set-up. I wanted to see if there is an audible difference between the D/A convertor in the Echo Dot versus the Play 5's D/A. I then found out that Spotify is not yet supported by Sonos, and the bit rate of Amazon Music is less than Spotify, so I could not compare Apples to Apples, or should I say Dot D/A versus Sonos Play 5 D/A. I'll have to wait for Spotify to compare. Does anybody have an opinion as to whether the same bit rate source sounds better through the networked Play 5 Gen 2 versus the line-in from the Echo Dot? After being an audiophile for many years, I worry about these things, although given that the source is ~300k MP3 files, I probably shouldn't. I also have a small FLAC library of my ripped CD's so that would be the best test I suppos

After integration with Sonos, Alexa responds to commands and plays music. However, she no longer talks to me. No more riddles, no more weather reports, not more "Sleep tight". Please help.

How do get the Alexa app to permanently forget a device. One echo is hardwired to the sonos connect amp but it keeps rediscovering it.

How can I make TuneIn the default music service? Somehow my Sonos system has decided that Amazon is the default and I’d like to make it TuneIn radio. Any ideas?

Looking at the voice commands for Alexa and Sonos, it doesn't appear that I can "Alexa, play in the living room".

I have multiple cases where I say "Play TuneIn in the Kitchen" the Echo confirms saying something like "getting last station played.... Playing Today FM in the Kitchen" and then nothing happens. Have other people had this?

I had a thought regarding how the sonos integration may factor into the Echo Plus. The Plus is supposed to boast to have a smart home hub built in, so you don't have to have a separate phillips hub (for example) as well. There hasn't been much said but it's supposed to boast Alexa features built in to your smart home scenes. In other words you can script commands to turn on a light AND play a radio station, for example. I would assume then, since Alexa now has a lot of control over sonos, that a sonos zone can be included in these smart home scripts. Is there any confirmation on that? BTW, I know that you can do this with other third party hubs already, just seems like it might be more integrated with the Alexa smart home since Alexa is more aware of the 'state' of the sonos zones. Also, I've heard little about the Echo Plus capabilities. Not much on supported devices, scheduling capabilities, or any conditional logic.

I hope Sonos provides some way to completely disable Alexa or any other listening-servie on its hardware and software if they are going the voice-command route. I'm extremely security and privacy conscious, and have to be in my work. I can't understand why anyone would want a device "listening" to everything said in the home or office setting. Trusting devices like that suggests a lot more faith and trust in companies and government than I have, despite assurances that it only listens for the key phrase to activate. It's a sure bet there's either a back door in it, or someone will hack it to eavesdrop on everything.

now that Alexa public beta is here, can sonos be accessed / controlled remotely outside its wifi network range using the alexa app? only reason i want this is we have a multi room set up with 5 sonos zones in our vacation rental home and would like to be able to control remotely thx

Can I play a Pandora station on both the Echo and my Sonos Play:3 simultaneously so it's essentially having two connected speakers?

Does the new Alexa functionality permit playing music from my music library or is it limited to specific streaming services? What if I am playing music from my music library and I just want to pause the music or change the volume?

Can anyone confirm if the $3.99 echo music plan will play over Sonos? I’m assuming it will not but if someone could test I would appreciate it.

Hey there, while im really happy to see that the alexa beta finally went live, im a bit concerned on the taken approach. I bought 5 echo dots about a year ago when I first read the Sonos/Alexa announcement. I knew the dots would have very poor sound quality compared to the bigger versions but it didn't really bother me, since I never intended to use them as speakers anyway. Its not just about the music - there are timers, alarms, todo-lists, calendars, audible and basically everything else that comes out of Alexa, that I want to hear through my quality speakers. I would be very happy for a solution that lets me connect one Alexa device to one specific Sonos speaker and routes all audio input through that speaker. There would be no need for additional Spotify/Audible integration because Alexa does all the work and Sonos just streams the audio. Yes, there would be a short delay compared to the native Alexa response but I wouldn't mind at all.

I have the 2nd generation play 5 which from what i understand has 2 small mics built it that are deactivated. I'm excited about the newly announced Alexa built Sonos One but what about the Play 5 (2nd gen)? It already has 2 mics built in so i thought play 5 was the perfect candidate for voice activation.

Is the music quality the same when requesting music through an Amazon Echo to Sonos as it is playing directly from the Sonos App? I assume that the Echo simply passes off the instruction and gets out of the way when the Sonos speakers start playing. The sound seems the same but ive only tried for a few minutes. (It's pretty cool!)

I have two Alexa's which are directly linked to Sonos players, One is a Play:5 and another a connect, in both cases the Echo is connected via a 3.5 mm audio cable. After today's update sounds intrinsic to Alexa, such as "What time is is" no longer play through the sonos speakers. If it disconnect the patch cord the sounds play just fine on the echo itself and other audio such as audiobooks/Spotify/SiriusXM stream as well as alarm and timer tones play just fine (and yes it's by patch cable not the new method, if I unplug the cable the echo plays the music via it's speakers). The sounds which are missing are the ones using the "Alexa" voice. I've tried disabling the app, forgetting all the speakers and then setting it all up again which didn't correct the issue. Any ideas this is a rather annoying bug.

I have successfully hooked up Sonos and Alexa - I can control the speakers via Alexa. Awesome. Now, how can I sync them so the same song plays from Sonos and Alexa? Possible?

It seems to me the wholealexa integration has been deliberately compromised to ensure the full feature set works only with streaming services and not with any purchased or owned media storage. What is sonos plan here? I did not purchase sonos to only be able to use Alexa for digital steaming services. It is already documented that amateur code has been out there before sonos spent nearly a year developing this version that has a far greater feature set than current. Including being able to use Alexa with local media. Why are sonos not making this feature available?

I would like my Sonos Play 1 to be the default speaker for my Amazon Echo but so far, yesterday's update only allows me to play music on the Sonos through voice commands. Have I missed a setting or is this not a feature?

I'm so underwhelmed by this implementation *no favourites, playlists, Spotify) that I want to disable the feature. So what's the easiest way to do this?

Having some issue enabling the skill. It asks me to link accounts... So I do. Log into sonos, then I log into Amazon and when it asks to link them I hit continue. Then nothing. No success or fail screen, it just takes me directly back to the alexa app home screen. I'm hoping I'm doing seething wrong. (worth noting my controller app and sonos speakers are up to date). Any ideas? I'm in the UK if that makes any difference.

Is it possible to play the same song simultaneously on the echo speaker and my Sonos speaker? Essentially using the echo as another “Sonos” speaker in the group?
