What to get

What are peoples thought of replacing a play 5 gen one with either s beam or play 5 gen 2.A bit of background. Had the gen 5 for a few years, acquired used mainly  for the headphone jack to allow for night time use. That has since been replaced with a bose headset.It now lives in the bedroom next to the tv but not connected to it. And used for casual listening,. While I have no issue's with the 5, I worry Sonos are about to make some changes that will impact my 5 negatively, no evidence on my part just a gut feeling and ii'm looking nto a replacement for it.A 5 gen 2 gets me the best sound quality but the beam allows me to connect to the tv, a voice assistant  and airplay 2, wife is an iPhone user, my question really is if these others features are enough to justify the lower sound quality of the beam, and it's also cheaper. I think it is but curious on what people think. How does a beam stack up against the 5 gen 2.O, the beam also allows for a 5.0 expansion in the future, though I am

I have an Onkyo receiver that is compatible with a Sonos Connect, will I get at least the same compatibility with a Sonos Port?Further, are there any advantages with the Sonos Port apart from what I understand of upgraded audio components? Thanks in advance.

Would I need two Amps in theory, assuming I wanted to have the option to stream the record player via Sonos?I don’t have the option to hardwire my Playbar to Ethernet or the Amp.Any advise would be greatly appreciated. 

Hi all, We recently moved into a new house that had some passive Definitive Technology speakers wired for surround sound in the family room, there are also some in ceiling speakers throughout the rest of the house wired back to the family room. I was drawn to Sonos for the ease of use and clean designs so I purchased 3 Amps direct from Sonos. I set this up to run a 4.1 Surround System in the Family room and the 3rd Amp is powering the Ceiling Speakers. Works great. I then wondered if I am missing out on a Center channel so I am also testing a 7.1 Onkyo receiver which can do much of what the 3 Amps are doing for much less money, roughly $500 versus $1800 for 3 Amps. With the Onkyo I set it up for 5.1 and the 2nd Zone powers the ceiling speakers. But here I am wondering if I should go back to the Amps, I like the user experience better and slick design of the Amps. It feels more modern to me than the larger AV receivers Plus I enjoyed a few features that sonos allowed me to do that I can

Would I be correct in assuming that if I want to output all sound from my PC to my Sonos Move’s, I will need a Sonos Amp or Connect? I’d need to use a HDMI to TOSLINK adapater to connect my PC to the Amp (given my PC doesn’t have HDMI ARC, unless my Nvidia 1070 would work?) https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2796/~/which-hdmi-audio-formats-do-nvidia-gpus-support%3F Perhaps the GPU will simplify things for me. However, it’s still dissapointing that to gain this flexaibility in the Move’s I need to spend another $500.

I would be looking at buying the SONOS MOVE for use in our MotorHome (That’s an RV @Ryan S and @Chris) So as the motorhome runs on 12v which I know the Move doesn’t then I need to have a good idea how long it will run from a full charge connected to my iPhone via Bluetooth.I can plug in 240v but if hooked up on a site it would probably knock out the power due the high amps. ThanksDave

I have looked through previous posts but there seem to be so many different set ups that I want to be sure I get the right product.I am setting up a home cinema system. At the moment I have an Nvidia Shield (2017), an old Optoma projector (which will be replaced in next 12 months so not a fixed part of set up), a Gen 1 Play 5 and two Play 1s.I have a shelf at the back of the room with space/plugs to house the projector, Nvidia Shield and any speakers or other equipment needed there.Ideally, I was hoping that I could connect the Shield to the projector and a Sonos product and then stream the audio from the Shield/projector to the Play 1s or another Sonos product at the front of the room.Will that work if I connect a HDMI from the Shield to the projector and then connect an optical cable/HDMI to any Sonos product? Or do I need something like the Connect or Connect Amp? Would that even work to relay the audio to the other Sonos speakers in the room?As

I have a Beam with sonos sub and play 1 speakers in my living room and I am looking to replace the Beam with sonos amp and Mission floorstanding speakers. The reason for planning that is because I think it might give me a good option for music and movies in same area rather than setting up the speaker in another room. I don't have an amplifier so need to get one if I set the speaker separately. I don't know how well the phantom centre works for movies with sonos amp as there is no option for that whereas from the beam dialogue is quite clear. Hope you could share your thoughts. Thanks

I recently installed a WD  NAS on my systemI uploaded all of my fairly extensive music library up to the NAS with no issues.When I try to add the Folder on the NAS to Sonos with the Windows App I can see the folder in the add music services window, but the “button” to select it is greyed out.I have tried it in both the public and private sides of the NAS, and have tried moving the folder out on it’s own. I have done some research on permissions and think I have things set up correctly but cannot get the ability to select the folder.I assume it is some sort of a permission problem but am at a loss to sort it out.Can someone advise me?

Hello Everyone,Having spent many years and way too much money on hi-fi kit, I am selling most of it and going for wireless kit. I already own a pair of HomePods which sound great, but I am disappointed by the lack of EQ settings - my preference is more treble and bass, as I am not overly impressed with the linear sound from most systems.I recently auditioned my friends Sonos Soundbar, sub and 2 x Play one’s. I was very impressed and I liked the ability to adjust EQ settings to my preference. I am planning on starting out with the Sonos Amp to connect it to my existing hi-fi speakers and adding a turntable. From there I will add Sonos Play 5 or Ones to additional rooms. My question is - does anyone know if the Sonos Amp has the ability to adjust the EQ settings when used with hi-fi speakers and a turntable? Could I add a Sonos sub to the hi-fi speakers for additional bass and still just EQ settings?Thanks,Andy

I was tempted to pick up a couple of ‘Play:X’ speakers being sold used.  I’m not talking about a generic term for any of the Play:[1,3,5] speakers --  they literally have ‘Play:X’ as the model name on the bottom. Most Sonos:One’s I’ve seen are labelled “One” on the bottom, so it makes me wonder if these are some sort of prototype or pre-production model of the Sonos:One?…   Concerned that Sonos may not allow them to work if they were never intended to be found out in the wild.  TIA for any info…  Paul.

I am aware that the new SL can be paired with a Sonos One but I have an older generation 1. Can the One gen 1 make a stereo pair with an SL?

I already have a sonos move and it sounds amazing. I was wandering if I should I another $400 Sonos Move to make a stereo pair? 

I've been reading and researching, and have come up with a plan that I'd like verification of to make sure I'm not making a mistake :) I currently have a home theater setup using a Sony STR-DN840 receiver, along with some old Paradigm tower speakers, as well as a M&K setup with 4 bookshelf, one center and a subwoofer. I'm looking to get into something that's easy to use (for my wife), that doesn't take a ton of fiddling (the Sony has a lot of audio options for music/movie/PCM/Dolby, etc. etc.), and just basically 'works' while sounding good. I've been looking into getting first a beam or playbar with some Play 1's or One's, as well as a sub, but then started thinking I could probably incorporate some of my existing kit to save some $, as well as perhaps get a better overall product. Lately, however, instead of the Beam, I have been looking at the Sonus Amp. Seems to me that it would cover the 'easy/simple' aspect. It would allow me to use the Paradigms as my front L/R speake

I am a newbie with limited understanding of connecting a sound system looking for advice. Recently moved into a house with four wired ceiling speakers that now have wires hanging out of my wall above my mounted tv not connected to anything. The previous owner took the rest of his sound system (amp, etc). I’m looking to add a Sonos surround system connected to my tv while utilizing the existing ceiling speakers. 1. Can the new Sonos Amp connect via HDMI to my tv and to the 4 ceiling speakers? The sound coming from the tv alone is weak for the room it’s in but probably will be enough once I connect the ceiling speakers. Is this a waste and would I get the same sound using a less expensive amp?  2. How would a Sonos Beam fit into the connections and would it be necessary? I would like the option of upgrading in the future which is why I’m drawn to Sonos. Does anybody know just HOW “improved” the DAC is in Port vs Connect? I’m considering adding a port to another system, but not if I’m going to end up feeling the need to run it through a better stand alone DAC like I do with the Connect.  

Hi all, I am currently in the market for some Sonos gear and am trying to work out what I need to get the most out of the current home theatre audio that I already have.My overall goal is to be able to output different audio to all zones in my house at the same time or any combination of groups.Current Set up:My home theatre currently has a Denon X1500 which is set to 5.1 and outputs to some polk audio fronts, bookshelfs and sub. Hi, Here comes a sound noob question. I have a Sonos Amp connected to two Dali bookshelf speakers. I have now purchased a Dali sub. Do I connect the AMP to the subwoofer LFE bypassing the Bulut in crossover and using the Amps crossover or do I have to connect the subwoofer with a Y-Cable to the L/R input on the subwoofer. I have now connected the amp to the subwoofers LFE and it seems to work very well. Would there be an advantage in sound if I got a Y-cable to connect to the L/R-input on the subwoofer instead?

Hi!! We've purchased and old home and are doing some work on it. I'd love to set up multiroom audio basically just for background music, and occasional entertaining. There are two main living rooms connected by a oversized doorway (with no door -- it's open plan). When we eventually move in, the TV will be in the smaller room, above a fireplace (yes; I know!! I don't want to discuss the problems with this!!) because we don't want it right next to the children's rooms. The larger room will have a circular dining table at one end and a sitting/coffee table area at the other (not physically divided) as shown. For the TV I think we're going to go with some sort of soundbar with rear speakers. Given the issues with the Playbar's 5.1 optical input (most TV's don't seem to support it) I'm inclined to go with Samsung HW-Q90R as it both has better audio reviews and more reliable 5.1 input. I'm going to hate losing my genuine 5.1 setup, but I don't think it fits around the fireplace. In
