Home Theater

I can't get the Playbar to work with my digital audio out on my Pioneer Elite, PRO-1140HD. Any suggestions?

Hi all, I just move my home theater system to a dedicated room so I purchased a playbar for my TV room. I only bought the playbar as a first step to see how much bass it produces before eventually buy the Sub. For regular TV use, the sound is great and the bass level is perfect but adding a sub would help from time to time (music, watching movies on TV). However, I have the impression that adding a sub would make the bass level to loud all the time so I would enable it only when needed. I understood that adding a sub to a playbar "takes out" all low frequencies from the playbar and direct them to the sub only. My question is : when the sub is switched on/off in the sonos controller app, does it impact the bass level on the playbar itself like if the sub is paired or not ? Thanks for your shares

How do you see the volume level of the sonos playbar on you tv

We just had our backyard landscaped to make it usable, and I'm looking into making a backyard theater. I am not planning on making a 5.1 (or better) system to start, as this setup won't be permanent and I don't feel like setting up multiple speakers each time. So I was looking into using a playbar to run the audio solo, as we could then set it up for music with our in-home sonos system to also enjoy music outside when we're not watching a movie. I don't mind taking out a single speaker (even if large) each time we want to listen to music. I'd run the theater sound direct from a roku, which has an optical out. So in two areas I am wondering how well that would work - 1) playbar audio alone for an outdoor theater (again, not expecting greatness, just basic audio) and 2) as the playbar won't be plugged in all the time. I figured I'd have to remember to plug it in before doing any upgrades, which is not a big deal. I could also just plug it in on the inside if it's not being used outsi

I've had my playbar four a couple of years. It's connected directly to my TV using the optical cable. Recently the sound has started cutting out. I either have to reset the playbar or disconnect and reconnect the optical cable. Sometimes I only need to change channel and the sound comes back, which made me think it was my cable set top box, but I've swapped the cable box for my other cable boxes and I have the same issue. When I put sound back to TV speakers, it does not cut out. Sometimes there is a little bit of a crackle to the sound before it cuts out. Any ideas?

Can I use a Sonos Playbar on a pc with the optical cable if I convert it to a aux cable, and get all the sound from Netflix or something like that?

Hi, is it possible to setup a surround sound with a PLAY3 and 2x PLAY1? Or do you specifically need a PLAYBAR/PLAYBASE? I own 1 of each and am looking to repurpose and group them (plus one more) with my Apple TV so that I can switch to the Homepod and airplay 2 when it comes out. Thanks, Dave

Hi, If I have 2 living rooms. Each living room have its TV. Can I have 2 sets of (PlayBars+Sub)? 1 set of Playbar+Sub for 1 TV? Thanks!

My Sony TV setup allows all sources on HDMI to pass through DD 5.1 to my standalone playbase connected by optical to the TV. I can verify its receiving this on the About Section. My question is more out of curiosity and what other people have noticed with a similar standalone playbar or playbase, would it make more sense to just set the TV to PCM and get a stereo signal or keep the 5.1 that i imagine is simulating as best as possible. I do notice the stereo seems fuller sounding but lacks some sense of expanse if that makes sense? Can anyone else share their thoughts/opinions? thanks,

I used to have this $250 Sony 5.1 surround system with my livingroom television. It didn’t sound bad and did the job, and the rear speakers were even wirelessly connected to the unit so I didn’t have a wire running across my livingroom floor to the back which was nice. But I have gotten older and years back I was ready for an upgrade and had seen Sonos, so I grabbed a Sonos Playbar and 2 Play 1 rears. (Yes, I hear the sub is a must but have not gotten that yet) I like the wireless because I move a lot and its easy to setup in a new place and with music, the system in a smallish livingroom sounds fantastic. But unfortunately I have always had problems with the television, it never sounds quite right and I always struggle with the voices being difficult to hear or the rear speakers hardly sounding like they are working. The Sony setup just did a much much better job at home theater which is disappointing when comparing $1,000 to $250. Just to review my setup... rear speakers are at t

I am thinking about buying a Playbase for my Panasonic SmartTV. Currently there is a PLAY:1 close to my tv, to stream internet radio and iTunes from NAS. Main reason to replace the PLAY:1 with a Playbase, would be to have much better sound then the default flatscreen audio while watching television. While at the same time keeping the features of the PLAY:1 in my living room (internet radio and iTunes from NAS). When watching telivision it's mainly digital tv (HDMI) and the occasional NetFlix and YouTube (both apps on SmartTv). We do not use BlueRay or game console. My first thinking was to buy a second PLAY:1 for the other side of the television and configure them as a stereo pair. However, by research and this community I learned that this is not an option for my television sound. Without trying to outsmart the Sonos system, I would be ready to consider buying a Playbase. If I would buy the Playbase, it would be that single Sonos product in my living room. So no PLAY:1's for th

Hi, Does anyone have access to measure the distance and layout of the furthermost rear feet on their Playbase please? I have a corner tv stand that would house a new playbase quite nicely depending on the feet location. It tapers inwards towards the back so that it fits in a corner if that makes sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. Lewis

As per title - I've read a few things about this, like it not working if the input to the TV is HDMI - but I'm struggling to find the detailed tech specs for the TV. My BluRay player is connected to the TV using HDMI.

My playbase is not working, had it less than 24 hours and now it is distorted and muffled. tried twice to get through to ring up for support but long queues, then called at 17.30 and they are closed. not a good start and don't fancy a 50 mile round trip to the store 😞

Hi. I currently have a Sony HT-CT780 Soundbar (was around £300 mark). Main reason I bought this was for the 3x hdmi in and 1x out to work with my Projector, Sky box, Nvidia shield. I find the sound a little underwhelming. I have 2x Play 1's and was looking to add a Playbar to the set-up (using some sort of HDMI-Optical splitter). Just wonder if anyone else has this set up and whether they think it is worth it? I have looked at the Playbars and my room is narrow and 15ft in length, so not massively worried about the base box element right now. Sound would surely be better with Playbar and 2x Play1's as rear sound. Just fearing a tricky set-up or audio issues around the set-up with the splitter? Its just having the 2x Play1's that is making want to head down this route. Also wonder if I would be better getting a cheapish 5.1 set-up for similar price as playbar? Would love to hear your thoughts. Cheers

Hello! Something of a newbie here to the forum, hoping someone can help with my (somewhat complicated) setup... I have a cinema room with a BenQ MU706 projector, connected to multiple sources (PC, PS4 Pro, Blu-ray player for the kids and a Sky Q mini-box) via an HDMI switch (Neet HDMI True Matrix 4x2). The other HDMI output goes through the wall to a TV in the next room. I can successfully switch between pictures on all devices across both projector and other room TV. However, the sound is where my issue is. I have a Playbar + SUB sitting under the screen. I've connected the Playbar Optical connection to a Portta 4 Port 4x1 SPDIF/Toslink digital optical audio switch, using Realmax Toslink 10m Cable. I've then hooked up the various sources to the optical switch (also using shorter Realmax Toslink cables, and the Sonos optical cable that came with the Playbar). Predictably, I have no sound on any of the devices! Taking the PS4 as an example - I have the sound set to Optical, the

I am purchasing the playbar and my tv does not have an optical output. Is there a converter available that will solve this issue?

Recently bought a black playbase and noticed it got scratched after cleaning the top of it. Any ideas on how to hide/remove the scratch?

Has anybody successfully setup a new 4k hdr smart tv with the playbar? I recently purchased a Sony x900e and i already have a full Sonos 5.1 setup and even an old monoprice md-arc 7974 splitter. Just doing even a basic setup of just optical cable out from sonos to the the back of the TV i can't seem to get movies to stream the audio on Prime or Netflix unless i set the entire TV to output PCM stereo. It seems to randomly pass dolby5.1 in a few instances but most content is Dolby Digital Plus and it will not or there does not appear to a TV setting to allow a smooth auto switch transition from DD5.1 content to Stereo when it encounters DD Plus audio i simply get silence. Do i need to change inputs or settings or buy another splitter? I have tried many many different ways of setting it up and the more complicated ones usually end up with the TV refusing to let me switch the audio to "external speaker"

Hi . I've playbar and 2 play1 for 5.0 system connected to tv. How I have to positioning play1 for a better surround effects? height, inclination, distance etc.. my sofa is practically stuck to the wall thanks

I know we can set up the Playbar+Sub+2 Play 5's for 5.1 surround. My question is can we add to bass a bit and set a system with the same original speakers and add a subwoofer for the rears, or just a 5.2 system?

I recently replaced my 5.1 PLAYBAR set-up with a new Denon home theater system. I now get HDMI audio, DTS and HD audio support. I no longer use optical audio and can use any blu-ray player I choose. If I type up a full write-up of the switch I performed, pros & cons etc. would anybody be interested?

Guys, I just bought a pair of Beolab 6000 speakers on eBay and want to connect them to my Connect : AMP. The idea is to use them as rear speakers and create an 5.1 system with them. What are your recommendation with regard to the cables? As far as I know, B&O uses a differnt kind of cable than what is needed for the connect : AP. Any recommendations are more than welcome. Rafael

I recently added a Playbar to my home setup. Playbar is optically connected to a Sony BRAVIA XBR‑55X930D. I have frequent dropouts of audio from multiple sources input to the TV. TW Cable audio signals dropout, DVD audio signals occasionally drop out, etc. The issue self resolves most of the time, but sometimes requires a channel change to regain audio. Its quite annoying with a new product. Not sure if this is a software issue, TV issue or general Playbar issue. Any suggestions?
