Question

Surround sound without PLAYBAR/BASE

Hi, is it possible to setup a surround sound with a PLAY3 and 2x PLAY1? Or do you specifically need a PLAYBAR/PLAYBASE?

I own 1 of each and am looking to repurpose and group them (plus one more) with my Apple TV so that I can switch to the Homepod and airplay 2 when it comes out.

Thanks,
Dave

You need a PlayBar or PlayBase at the minimum. Those are the only two equipment pieces that decode surround sound.

In Addition to what HighEndMusic said, you can only use a pair of Play 1s or 3s as surround speakers(rear), if you decided to have a playbar or playbase which is the one connected on your TV
Ah bummer. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

You won't be disappointed with the Playbar, it's an excellent bit of kit!.
