So when i'm watching TV a blue ray movie, i only get Stereo sound; i have the TV connected to the sonos thru the optical cable. My TV is a Sony xbr65x850d; i get 5.1 launching app directly from the TV and a couples Apps from my amazon fire stick but not when 'm playing blue ray. if i connect the Xbox one S directly to the Sonos speaker via the Optical cable i get 5.1 but not if i connected from the TV any solutions?

Two quesrions.. I habe a few sonos 1's scattered around the house right now. .. Workomf pretty good. If i add a playbar, a sub and 2 sonos 1's as a 5.1 homw threatre in the living room.. For audio.. Will the entire livingroom setup show up as one speaker in the app or will I need to group each time to play music? And assumimg it does show up as one item. Can i group the home theatre witj the other sonos 1's and have music playing through all speakers in the livingroom as well as the rest of the house? Lastly. If watchimg tv, and the sound is being output to the playbar via optical. Can i group that sound and olay it all aroind the house?

Hello, looking at purchasing a playbar but am pretty sure my Panasonic TV does not do 5.1 hdmi pass through. Can anyone recommended what to buy (uk) to do conversion? Pretty simple setup, Apple tv 4 to playbar and TV to playbar. TV has optical. I have found switches on Amazon which look to convert HDMI to optical solving my Apple TV problem but then do I need another switch after this to feed two opticals (the TV and The apple TV opticals?) As in if the converted Apple TV optical lead is plugged into the playbar from the Apple TV how do I also get the optical from the TV into the playbar if the socket is already taken? Just get a passive cheap splitter before playbar connection, will this work? thanks for any advice Tim

Hey folks, I've searched extensively but haven't seen an answer to this question: my TV (Samsung UE48H6700) fails to pass Dolby Digital from HDMI to optical. Despite that, is it possible that it is passing DD through the HDMI ARC port? To test it, I will need to buy an HDMI to optical adapter than can handle ARC (wish SONOS had put an HDMI port on the playbase). Obviously if it works, it would negate the need for an HDMI switch with optical out (HDMI with optical out needed as new peripherals like Amazon Fire and Apple TV don't have their own optical outs) so greatly simplify (and cheapen) the setup and avoid lip-sync issues. I can force my Apple TV, Amazon Fire and Xbox one to deliver DD to my TV (took a while to figure out that you need to manually select HDMI video output first in the Xbox settings before you can select Bitstream under HDMI audio out), and I can then select DD on the TV's additional audio settings, but it is then silent with either its internal speakers o

Hi, I have two question and I couldn't find clear answers to them yet: - Can I combine the Playbar with one Play:1 and one Play:5 as surround speakers? Setting don't allow it, but is there a workaround? - Can I use my Play:5 as Sub for the Playbar? Again settings don't seem to allow it, but it has a lot of bass and should be able to complement the other speakers with bass. Is there a workaround? Cheers!

Using a Playbase on a Panasonic P50ST30. Have successfully turned off the speakers and have the challenge of removing the on-screen messages whenever changing volume. Followed the "Eliminating annoying messages on your TV when using a remote" link here for my Verizon Fios remote, got rid og the TV's messages but the STB fixed volume remote icon now shows up whenever the volume is used. I thought those steps were to remove these messages? Followed the instructions exactly.

I'm looking for some advice on where to mount my TV and Playbar above a fireplace. My #1 concern is that I want to keep the TV as low as possible so it's not crazy high to look at. My fireplace is approx. 66" high and I'm mounting a 65" TV above it which is 33.1" wide. The ceiling is not an issue as it's a little over 12'. If I mount the Playbar under the TV I assume you need to leave a few inches clearance between both the mantle (my wife wants some space for whatever decorations she has in mind) as well as the TV which would raise the TV more than a really want to. Is it crazy to mount the Playbar above it? Would that not be ideal through? What would you guys do?

How to controle playbar music and tv volume settings , they are out of wack, tv volume way to low compared to Spotify on playbar, so when changing in between tv and musik we jump out of our seats every time I put musik back on

I'm curious how others have their Subs oriented. Do you have it so that the broad side of the subwoofer faces your seating area or the narrow part? Images on the Sonos product page show it with the broad side facing the seating position but I have mine with the narrow end facing me. I think I read somewhere that Sonos said the Sub could be placed anywhere so I assume the orientation may not change things too much.

I just purchased the sonos playbase and it does not seem to be dual voltage compatible. Is this true or do I need a converter?

I am trying to set-up a home theater, and would like to utilize the Sonos speakers that I already have: Play 1, Play 3, and Sonos Connect. I am looking to purchase a projector to use to stream videos from NetFlix, HBO, etc. Is there a way that I can use Apple TV together with my Sonos Connect to do this wirelessly? Or is there a cable that will run between my Connect and MacBook? I am hoping that I do not need to purchase a Playbar in order to play audio for movies and shows. Please let me know.

Seems to be a lot of conflicting information on this. My Xbox One will pass DD 5.1 from DTS sources and I see the Xbox One S does but what about the One S? Seems odd to me this would be left out since all 3 consols pretty much run o nthe same software. I am looking to get UHD+HDR bluray capability on my TV and it makes more sense to update the Xbox One I have than bu a dedicated player and since I don't game too much the Xbox One S would be excellent value but not if I can't watch DTS discs.

I am running a CONNECT and PLAY:3 through my Yamaha RX-681 receiver. The two optical ports are already being used for other electronics. Right now I have RCA jacks running from the receiver “ZONE 2 ZONE OUT“ to the CONNECT “ANALOG AUDIO in”. There is low sound even with the volume on the smartphone and the PLAY:3 turned up all the way. I never had a sound issue when it was connected to my older Pioneer SX-217 receiver. Any suggestions? Just about every cool Blu Ray you can buy from the last 5 years only has DTS as the sound option. I want to know the exact settings I need to put on the PS3 and what I should see in my Sonos "About" section. Will I see "Stereo" even if it's receiving DD5.1?

I currently have a Playbase and am thinking of picking up 2 Play:1s while they're on sale this week. I was thinking of placing them to the left and right of the Playbase/TV. My room configuration doesn't really lend to placing them in rear locations (I don't want to mount and don't want stands). Is there any real benefit to my system if I can only locate them to the left and right of the TV? Do you think it's worth the extra cost? I'm happy with the Playbase as is, but if there is a strong difference w/ adding two additional speakers, I would consider it.

In the Wall where my tv is, i have 3 integrated loudspeakers. I Can buy a unit for the 2 sidespeakers but how Can i set the system up for home theatre using the existing center speaker.

Hi all, I'm aware this question has been asked a million times over, but unfortunately cannot find the answer to my issue. Basically: I have a set up with play bar that works fine with our samsung series 7. Optical audio is plugged and works. Added 2 play 1's to the setup just now as L and R rear speakers. TV emits dolby 5.1 sound, that's fine. Still no sound from my play 1's when watching TV. When listening to music they work perfectly though. What else could be the issue?

Another how to deal with DTS question: I have a few DVDs (not BluRays) that are older and have only stereo and DTS 5.1 as options. Since they're DVDs the Samsung BD-J6300 won't transcode the DTS to DD. Has anyone run across a solution for plain DVDs to get DTS to DD? Many thanks!

Hi. Can the Playbar be configured to use a Play 1 for the left channel and a Play 1 as a right channel? (Or any Play speaker for that matter. I'm looking for a way to get a larger separation of sound, more than the Playbar will give. Can this work or is this not too good of an idea? Many thanks!

All of my components are in white in my living room, aswell as all of my sonos play:3 and play:5.... Are there any plans on bringing the Playbar in white?

I have searched, and searched, and tried mutiple different ways to make this work with no luck. Here is a breakdown of my setup, and what I have tried. My tv does not pass 5.1 to the playbar, when I upgrade in a few months ill make sure this is not an issue, but until then here is what im wroking with. Im using a playbar, sub, and a pair of play 3's connected wirelessly. Tv (samsung, which does not passthrew 5.1) and the devices connected are my xbox 1 and my pc. Works: X box 1 connected via optical to the following switcher (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HQ2R38C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) which is then connected to the play bar. Hdmi out directly to the tv for video only. This works great. My current setup and TV is able to passthrough DD 5.1 Playbase is connected to tv directly via optical and Apple TV, cable are all able to passthrough 5.1 verified on the sonos about app. My PS4 for gaming or using built in Netflix app is supporting DD 5.1. However when I play a Blu Ray that has DTS with no other options it's transcoding to Stereo. I've done some searching but haven't been able to confirm whether this is PlayStation issue or Sonos issue. Has anyone had success with this?

Not many televisions support Dolby Digital 5.1 passthrough from HDMI, ex. Apple TV 4K connected to TV with HDMI and sound optical out to soundbar/soundbase. Ex. 5.1 sound when I play Netflix in the TV:s smart app, but not when I play the same from Apple TV or Playstation. The normal is 5.1 sound out from optical port everything from the TV itself, like the built in apps or HD TV-channels, but never from connected things. Its only Dolby Pro Locic simulated surround from stereo source, like the fir round systems from VCR. Is there a solution to this?

Hi guys new to forum and sonos in general. I’m having an issue with my new sonos playbar transcoding DD/AC3. Currently getting no sound and any help is appreciated. To note I am using an htpc with hdmi into a hdmi and toslink splitter (link here https://www.amazon.com/TOSLINK-Optical-E...B01K7BZ1XC) with hdmi out going to TV arc hdmi port and spdif out going to playbar. I also only have playbar so far and not 5.1. Settings on Samsung TV are external speakers and PCM audio output as that’s all it allows me to choose when selecting external speakers. Thanks for any help as not sure if it’s the splitter, TV, Htpc, or playbar causing the issue. One final note is I have ARC deselected on the splitter as I didn’t think I wanted that if trying to just use audio through spdif...even if i turn that on it doesn’t do anything. Sonos app shows silence as the audio format. Thank you
