Home theater

I currently use a Yamaha receiver for my home theater. I also use speaker switch’s to play outdoors.  I really want to clean up my theater, and Getting a play base looks like the way to go. I already have a sub , moves, and a set if 1’s  and 5’s.  So those would take care of inside the house, but I don’t want to lose my outside wired speakers. Can I split off the tv and feed both the playbase and the amp? Or is there another solution?

Hi Folks,   There have been plenty of questions regarding DJing with Sonos regarding the 70ms latency. Someone once posted this: START ”1) If you can get the output of your DJ thingy into the Playbar via it's optical input then the audio would NOT be delayed. If you had 2 Play units bonded as surrounds then they would also play audio not delayed (but the signal would NOT be Dolby Digital 5.1 so they would barely get used. 2) Any other way of getting audio into Sonos - via line in on Connect, Connect:amp or Play 5 would be subject to an audio delay 3) If you GROUPED other Plays to a Playbar and played your DJing via the Playbar the audio played through the GROUPED speakers would be delayed by 70ms.” FINISH   Is the statement in (1) true and if so can one also plug directly into the optical in of a Beam to achieve the same.    Many thanks   John

I recently purchased Sonos Beam with 2 Sonos One. I have successfully connected to my TV, however i am facing problem connecting to my projector. My projector (XGIMI Aurora) has 1 HDMI input where i plug my Firetv or Android TV Box. Audio Out is either through Projector speaker or 3.5 mm jack or bluetooth. Can you please let me know, how do i get audio out to my sonos.   Many Thanks for your help

Hi, I can not achieve 5.1 audio when viewing HD broadcast TV. Can any one advise how I can achieve this please? My set up is as follows: Sonos Beam paired with two Sonos One SL speakers. The Beam is connected to a Samsung TV with The ARC HDMI input. The TV Model is: Samsung UE50ES6710 I use a Humax Freeview Player to receive the HD content: Humax FVP5000T The Humax is connected both via a HDMI cable and SPDIF to the Samsung TV. The setting on the HUmax are set to Doby Digital for both HDMI and Optical outputs. I have used The Simspons broadcast on Channel 4 HD which shows in the guide that it is broadcast in 5.1 to test the surround system. Looking at the About System page of the Sonos app I see that the audio input is Stereo. In the sound settings for the Samsung menu I have selected External speakers. The menu options in Additional Settings for Sound shows SPDIF Out set to PCM. The Dolby Digital option is greyed out and not selectable. When I switch source on the Samsung to USB and p

First off most of the information I have gleaned has come from here or the internet. This has worked for my setup and may not work for yours.. I wanted a seamless integration, no optical switchboxes, no new remotes etc. You could be lucky and your TV may natively pass through HDMI 5.1 to TOSlink so try first before you buy any extras. Basically the HDMI system does a HANDSHAKE when two items are connected, "most" TV's will be classed as a STEREO device because they only have two speakers; this is hard coded into the HDMI chip.. Anything connected to the TOS-LINK TV optical output after this is also classed as STEREO only including the Playbar/ Playbase. When you connect a 5.1 capable source normally, it HANDSHAKES with the TV and the TV's HDMI EDID says "I've only got two speakers, pass me stereo only". This proves a problem when you own a Playbar.. I use a kwmobile EDID emulator, between the SOURCE (Blu-ray/ Set Top Box) and TV, when HANSHAKING now ths EDID emulator say

All this R&D on the Move which I expect to be a niche product given it's price. Meanwhile the Playbar sits at $699 with no HDMI, dated looks, no voice control, no new audio codecs. Listen to the Verge podcast where they interview the Sonos CEO. They ask him why no new Playbar and he blows it off. At the end they make fun of it only having an optical port. It's just an insult to Sonos' customers. At least lower the price. Plenty of soundbars out there that do twice as much for half as much. Get rid of the Playbase and upsize the Beam. How hard can that be instead of designing a portable bluetooth speaker?

Hi All I have a SONOS BEAM coupled to a thousand pounds worth of new Sony TV…! Its linked via HDMI through the ARK Port but the app only shows the output as Stereo.. I've tried different channels and running a 1080p \ 5.1 Film through Netflix but its no different. Does anyone have any ideas as im flat out of any been fiddling with it all day to no avail. Cheers

Hi all, Does anyone know if the above exists? My tv does not output 5.1 via optical when the input is via the HDMI ports. I have my xbox and now a Chromecast connected to the tv. Up til now i was using an optical switch box with inputs from the tv and xbox to the playbar....but now i need to extract the sound from the chromecast as well to get its 5.1.... which is all well and good but I'd rather not have to still use the current optical switch box to get the internal tuner audio from the tv to playbar.… I hope this makes sense to someone who could advise. Appreciate any advice greatly. Rather not have to get atv just yet. Tia. Rob

Has anyone connected a Beam to an LG OLED tv and tested whether the audio is delayed when using Dolby Digital? My Beam is scheduled to arrive tomorrow (canceled my B&H order and ordered on the Sonos site today). I have a 2016 LG E6P with the latest firmware (5.30.30). I wasn't aware of the Dolby Digital issue until I started reading these forums. I have read and watched a bunch of reviews of Beam and no one mentioned this issue, which is curious. You would think at least one reviewer would have used an LG OLED when testing the Beam. Hoping it won't be an issue.;)

Good afternoon, I have an LG OLED TV (B8) connected by digital optical to a Playbar. I then have a sub and two Play 1s for 5.1. This was working fine but recently has only sent stereo to the Playbar for a little while. I am a little stuck resolving this. I am using Plex, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video both on the TV apps and a Firestick. Is this something that has changed? I’m guessing that Netflix 5.1 may output in Dolby Digital Plus and the TV may not be downscaling it well.  Before I start pulling the system to pieces, I just wanted to check that something hadn’t changed firmware wise within Sonos that is impacting 5.1. I own a Beam. It's works alright, but I do not have other Sonos speakers to group with it. All other wireless speakers are Amazon Echoes (separate topic). In another room, I have an Onkyo powered Home Theater with true 5.1 surround playing out of 5 separate Boston Acoustic Speakers and an SVS subwoofer. Seems like it would be a no brainer to play the same music on this system as the Beam (when I'm not using either one for watching movies of course). I do not want a Connect. The Amp and Playbase combine the three front channels into one speaker...boo! I understand the 75ms delay. So... Why doesn't Sonos get into the Home Theater receiver market by creating a receiver that could solve all of these issues/use cases and rake in a bunch of money?

I have read that all Sonos speakers will connect to wifi for them to work. I setup two Sonos Ones as surround for my Beam and they have been working flawlessly.   Today, I was watching a movie from a file saved in a USB connected to the TV. I was getting 5.1 sound and surround was working great. And then my partner unplugged our router accidentally, however the surround continued working. We left the router unplugged so there was no wifi at all - but the surround was working flawlessly.   So does this mean that the Surround Ones are directly connecting to the Beam? And not the wifi?   My beam is connected to the TV via Arc. And is NOT in boost mode (no ethernet connected). 

I Recently Added a Sonos beam to my Toshiba fire TV. It’s working great but the volume control randomly appears and disappears on the TV screen even when nobody is touching the remote. How can I make a stop?

How do I connect  my Beam to my home system sub that is currently part of my overall home system through a Sonos connect amp but is a non Sonos sub?

I’ve made numerous attempts to set up my neighbours Sonos system and remain frustrated by the surround sound set up in his lounge. He has a Sonos Beam and two (first gen) Sonos 1 speakers.  All his Sonos System works through his Sky Wifi network.  His (LG) TV is a current model and the sound is supplied to his beam through HDMI-ARC. I can set up the surround sound system with no problems.  The Lounge speakers show as a beam with +LS +RS.  The system works fine for a short amount of time and then the rear speakers stop working and show as ? ? in the room set-up.  After a few days the two rear speakers can be seen as individual speakers (rooms) on his sonos system (ie detach completely from his beam). Recently I have split his Sky Wifi into two wireless networks (one 2.4 and one 5 Ghz) to make sure his Sonos system stays on the 2.4 Ghz network.  This seemed to have worked, however he tells me the rear speakers have yet again dropped off the system. I’m afraid he doesn’t have a Sonos Brid

Before you buy any SONOS equipment to achieve a 5.1 setup please consider this: a Denon AVRX2400 AV Amp, Elac CINEMA 5.1 speaker system, all cables professionally installed behind the walls gives you true home cinema with all the surround sound codecs you could ever want with no cables showing for way less than £1000 (see Richer Sound web site for prices). Or spend £1700 on a SONOS setup and get stereo or Dolby Digital only plus you may have to buy a new DVD player to play your UHD DVD’s, a HDMI Switch then deal with lip sync issues etc, etc. SONOS do speakers, great speakers, but only for music. They are stealing money from people wanting 5.1 for their TV. The system I suggest costs at least £700 less, hides all the wires (what we all want) and sounds much, much better. Go mad, stick a couple of speakers in the ceiling and get real Dolby Atmos for £150 more and still save yourself £550. I know versions of this question may have been asked before, but I have a Playbar and just added two Ones and also just bought a new TV and was excited about having surround sound, but then realized that I just have stereo sound instead. Is there a TV that will push Dolby Digital to the Playbar through the digital optical cable - OR - is there an adapter I can get that - without noticeable loss in sound quality - can get my new TV (TCL Roku) to push Dolby Digital to the Playbar? Like maybe an adapted that goes from the digital optical cable to HDMI into the TV? Really blown away that this is something I now have to worry about with how much money I’ve spent with Sonos. 

Im going to by a Sonos Beam and have a question about connection and control of sound via Virgin remote.   I have an old Philips TV that does have an HDMI/RC port but my Virgin box is connected to this and doesnt work in any of the other HDMI ports. I control the Tivo box and volume via the Virgin remote.If i connect my new Beam via the Digital audio out will i lso be able to control the Beams volume using the same remote? Thanks for any help  

Hello all,    This drives me absolutely crazy and I don’t know why I am having this issue or how to fix it. So in my living room I have a full 5.1 set up - I have a beam, the sub, and stereo paired L and R Sono’s ones.    I have the beam plugged in via HDMI/ARC to my tv. On tv itself I have my settings set to bitstream for the HDMI audio format and then the audio format set to Dolby Digital. However whenever I check the audio in on my beam on the settings within the Sonos app it says Dolby Digital 2.0. What gives?   When I stream digital movies via the vudo tv app I check to make sure they are Dolby Digital Now I do hear sound out of the stereo pair speakers and the sub is producing bass for scenes but I dont understand why my app doesn't show 5.1.   then however when I watch something stupid on cable that I am sure isn’t 5.1 it tends to show it (I also have my cable provider settings set up as well.)   So basically I am just curious if anyone can help me on my it says 2.0 when it shou

Does any one know the type and size of screws that secure the beam to the wall mount from the bottom of the mount?  I just found out today (after the beam fell off the mount)  that the electrician who installed the beam about 6 months ago did not secure the beam to the mount.  I threw away the box many moons ago. 

Alright, not sure if anyone but me wants to do this, but I want to be able to turn off my Beam and paired Ones. I do not always need surround sound. Is it possible to turn the Beam and Ones off, and just use the factory TV speakers?

Is there really no way to turn off the Beam without unplugging it and then having to set it up again?  Is it sucking power/energy when it isn’t in use?   I just bought the Beam but will return it if the answer to this  - it can’t be switched off and is drawing energy when not in use.  What kind of product manufacturer designs something without an on/off button?!?

Every time I turn on the Apple TV, the audio output defaults to ‘HDMI’ which is the Apple TV itself. I have to switch it to Sonus every time. This is annoying. Does anyone know how to get the apple TV to automatically default to Sonos for audio output?
