Amazon Alexa and Sonos

Hi, I have set up my Beam to link to my PLEX server. If I use the Sonos app I can play music to the Beam OK. If I say "Alexa, Ask plex to play music by Adele" she responds in the affirmative and my media server shows that alexa is direct playing the correct music. So that all looks fine. BUT! no sound comes out of the beam! If I do the same on my echo in anther room it works perfectly. Is this (yet another) deficiency in the implementation of alexa and the beam?

I cannot believe that i am the only one who got it wrong and thought the Play One had Alexa. Could they have named it Play Two? I bought two of the Play one on sale to go with my Playbar then with support from Crutchfield purchased a Sonos One then found it would not pair with the the Sonos Play One so now am getting a second Sonos One to get rear speakers that work with my Playbar. All of this could have been solved by calling the new unit Sonos Play 2. This has taken a month and although it is all my fault except the support that suggested just to exchange one Play One which could be explained that he did not know I was using it as a surround, This seems crazy and I am very concerned that I will get it wrong with ordering a subwoofer. Is there some other thing I should know? Makes me tired of all the problems I have gone through. Then it was a problem trying to pair the missmatched speakers, then having to cancel and reinstall. I get that Sonos didn't launch with the ability for Alexa to use your music library. But why hasn't it caught up? If I look at the Alexa app, it knows everything that is in my (largish) library. Especially with the latest Alexa extensions, I'm really frustrated with not being able to play my library (and my Sonos playlists). What's so hard here???

In my Kitchen I have a Sonos Beam and two Play1’s (not Ones) grouped in a surround set and connected to my Samsung TV via ARC. Works great! In my Kitchen I also have an Echo Show and because it drove me crazy that both Alexa devices (the Show and the Beam) would switch on when I said Alexa I have turned the Voice control off on the Beam. I can control my Beam through Voice control on the Show. BUT when I ask for Alexa the Beam and the 2 surrounds do not lower their volumes (ducking) so that Alexa can hear my request. All the Sonos’ in the rest of the house do duck (zone feature please!) Please advise how I can solve this or is this a design issue that Sonos speakers with built-in speakers do not support ducking?

On Spotify I understand, you can make a radio station based on an artist, genre or song. Can use a voice command with Alexa on Sonos One to ask it to play a Radio station based on an artist, genre or song? I don’t own a Sonos One yet so can’t try this.

When I want to hear a RADIO station that I created on Ppandora, all I say is , "Alexa, play Andrew Belle Radio from Pandora on Office". Bam, it plays that radio station. When I use this same statement for Spotify, replacing the word Pandora with Spotify of course, it plays music BY Andrew Belle and not the RADIO station. I want to hear the station or channel with music LIKE Andrew Bell, not just a bunch of music BY Andrew Belle. Is there some word with Spotify other than RADIO or CHANNEL that I am not using or is this just not possible with Spotify? Many thanks, Houston

hi I am having problems to get my Sonos speakers to play music using Alexa voice commands if I say Alexa play Elvis Presley Spotify it responds shuffling songs from Elvis Presley on Spotify but I cannot hear any sound coming out of the speakers can somebody help me fix this thanks

I have 3 sonos ones and a playbar and had alexa + spotify setup and working. I recently changed spotify account and nothing seems to work anymore. Alexa won't play songs from spotify. It says that it does but there is just no sound. Even spotify to sonos is unreliable and wont work on some speakers. it seems the only way to get any sound out of your speakers is to use the sonos app directly I have tried unlinking and relinking alexa and spotify both in alexa app and sonos app but no luck diagnostic number is 1148420497

I want to add my Sonos to my Alexa smarthome everywhere skill and say "Alexa Play xyz everywhere" and music is streamed simultaneously to my Echo & Sonos devices.

Hi, I bought the Beam this week and have a problem. Normal setup is fine: it plays TV sound and I can control TV volume with voice commands and I can issue regular Alexa commands e.g. “Alexa, what’s the time?”, but if I say “Alexa, turn the TV off” she says “sorry I couldn’t find a device called TV”, and if I say “Alexa, play songs by Led Zeppelin” (which would play from Spotify on all my other Echo devices) she says “Hmm, to do that first enable the Sonos Beam skill in the Alexa app, then say ‘Alexa discover my devices’” I searched the Alexa skills for “Sonos Beam” but can find nothing. I already have the Sonos skill enabled.

We switched IP's about a week ago and the Sonos/Alexa ecosystem in our home as gone slightly haywire. I don't think the two are related, but maybe someone out there knows something I don't. Here's an example of what's happening: - "Alexa, play Sublime" request is made on the Sonos:One speaker in the Master Bedroom. - Sublime music begins to play, but it's playing randomly on the Sonos:One in our kitchen downstairs or the Echo Dot in our kid's room down the hall. Any thoughts?

I was really enjoying being able to use my main TV (labeled as a speaker on my Alexa App for some reason thru the Beam and called TV but I can't edit the name) and being able to adjust the volume and turn it on and off. I decided I wanted to use Alexa on my LG Smart in my bedroom so I order the Fire TV Stick 4K to use on it. I've installed it last night and it works okay on my tv although I would rather be able to control it thru my Sonos One in the hall by it but I can't seem to get it to link so I now have a third remote control in my bedroom which I hate. I then started to watch tv in my main room on my Samsung thru the Beam and I cannot turn it on and off without using a remote. Alexa tells me the hub isn't hooked up right and I need to check if it's connected. It is. I've tried a few of the suggestions on here like renaming my TV Device with the Fire stick as (Main TV) since I can't edit the TV working with my Beam as the device is greyed out and not clickable. I just installed a TCL 55R617 TV and attached my Sonos Beam to the TV via the HDMI-ARC port. I activated the CEC commands, etc as the Sonos app instructed me to in order to have a "one-remote" experience. Unfortunately, after I got the sound working on the TV, I could no longer access Alexa via the Beam. I am sure I am just missing a setting or something. Also, the Alexa app didn't recognize the TCL TV as a Roku device. I may end up deleting all devices from the Alexa app and trying to install them one at a time to see if that works. Any help is greatly appreciated!

The Sonos Beam and Alexa have an automatic unmute issue that occurs when you are using it with you TV. If you use your TV, or cable remote, to mute the sound and then ask an Alexa question or command request, the Alexa/Sonos interface works but then it will automatically UNMUTE the TV sound when it is done responding to your Alexa request instead of putting the Beam/TV sound back into the muted mode you started in. It would be very useful if the Sonos setup had an option or feature that could automatically first check to see if the TV/Beam is already in mute mode before it responds, then put the TV/Beam back into mute mode when it is done doing the request or command. It may not be critical, but it would be a logical feature. The Beam/Alexa interface does not appear to have any issues if your TV/Beam is not muted when you use the Alexa request feature. Does anyone else experience this issue?

I have two Sonos One's grouped as a stereo pair. For some reason, recently whenever I ask Alex to play music from Pandora or Amazon Music, both of which are enabled in the Sonos app and in Alexa app, I receive the error message, Sorry, that device is offline. This is infuriating. I've Googled and found several threads on the Sonos forums and they all say to disable the Alexa skill and re-enable it. When I ask Alexa to play a radio station it is now grouping all the speakers in the house and playing that station through them. This is a new issue and not how it used to work. Before I would ask Alexa to play a station or song and it would just play them in the current group of four speakers. Now it is grabbing the bathroom speaker and adding that to the group automagically. Not sure what has changed and if there is a way to change it back. I’ve been scaring the crap out of my wife in the mornings with this new development and would like to get things back to the way they were.

Hey, Not sure if this is a dumb question or not!? :) I use Amazon unlimited for streaming. Everything works fine via sonos. All synced. Can see my amazon playlists etc. Is it possible to add a new song (searched for in sonos) to an existing Amazon playlist? I can add to my songs or a sonos playlist, but if I’m streaming an amazon playlist already and using that say when driving, it seems counterintuitive to have to create a sonos playlist and effectively duplicate?? Is this possible? Thanks!!!

Just went through all the settings on Sonos app as well as Alexa app named my new Sonos One OFFICE in the Sonos app and group it with all my 7 other Sonos. I can play music on all Sonos through the Sonos app, I can use Alexa to play music on any speaker, EXCEPT the new Sonos One. Alexa keeps on telling that OFFICE SONOS is OFFLINE...

When will Alexa be available for use with Sonos One in India?

Hello! I’ve recently bought a Sonos Beam and two Play 1s and am absolutely loving it! (Shifted my loyalty from Bose but no regrets!). Its working well and I’m playing around with the Alexa feature. I wanted to check if it’s possible to control Netflix/Amazon prime videos through Alexa? I’m able to grasp all the music commands but not sure why it is not recognising my TV related commands. Any help please?

Has anyone been able to get the Sonos beam voice command: "Alexa turn off TV" to work? At this point I am able to get it to turn ON with voice and so far everything seem to be good except that the turn tv OFF via voice command is not working (and the random airplay not working and requiring to power cycle the beam). The TV i have is the Samsung MU8000 series... I have checked the TV option and do have Anynet+ enabled.. don't see any options as mentioned in this thread for samsung (https://en.community.sonos.com/home-theater-228993/enabling-cec-on-your-tv-for-beam-6810049) I have other devices in which if I connect it to the tv ARC HDMI port (at this point not using beam)... those device would shut the tv down when they are power off or go to sleep... So it seem like the TV is capable of having devices connected via its ARC HDMI shut the tv down... I just can't seem to get the beam to via the Alexa voice command... Has anyone had any luck with the Sonos Beam Alexa voic

Asking Alexa on Sonos One to play flash briefing results in "Here's your flash briefing" and no flash briefing. I've checked the following: - my Sonos android app is latest - the firmware on my Sonos one is latest - Amazon Alexa app on android is latest - Sonos one is correctly registered with my Amazon account - I've verified that the "play flash briefing" routine works as expected on other devices like Amazon echo Is anyone experiencing this? Is this expected?

I am using the Sonos One I received today. I’ve got everything set up properly I believe but here’s the issue I’m having... the music plays fine through sonos app and commands but any non sonos commands aren’t outputting through the speaker. For example, if I ask for the flash briefing it will tell me “here’s your flash briefing” and then nothing will come out of the speaker. Same for “sleep sounds.” If I ask it to play a sleep sound it will say it’s playing but it won’t actually play. Seems to be the skill outputs but I could be wrong. My echo dot is working fine.

Do you think the new Gen 2 Sonos One will make Alexa better? Or will it stay the same as it is on Gen 1. Just wondering if I should upgrade in the future. Maybe with Gen 2 it can support more Alexa functions. That would be nice and a worthy upgrade.
