What to get

Hello 👋🏻My NAS from 2011 (ReadyNAS NV+) died recently. I will be buying a new NAS but have not chosen a brand yet. My entire Sonos system (Play 5s, Connect, Bridge, and Beam) is S1 controlled. Would a new, more modern NAS work with S1? I don’t plan on buying new speakers yet (though tempted, but one project at a time). Anything particular I should consider when choosing a new NAS? Don’t need anything fancy, just for music. Thank you.Angie 🐾

Hi folks Ling time Sonos user. First post ever. Appreciate any input/feedback/opinions. Thinking best response wins a $20 Amazon gift card. Lol Trying to get other opinions on possibly setup ideas and placing what speakers where. WiFi connectivity is not a problem in any room. Below is what I have currently: The main tv (living room area) is about the only thing set with arc, sub, and 2 new symphonics just bought today for surround to free up Ones elsewhere. After that trying to figure what to place where in regards to larger attached area (dining room) off the main tv/arc and the 2 bedrooms (master and guest ) along with back porch/sunroom where I’ve been using the Move. Here are some pics and room sizes Room where arc, sub gen 3 , and symphonics are is pretty set (living room). Hello, I have a Playbase connected to my TV and a single Play:5 (Gen 2) connected to a turntable in the same room. Is it possible to buy a second Play:5 and use them as rear speakers in a surround sound setup with the Playbase? Thanks in advance!

Hello there everyone About two years ago a wonderful relative of mine bought me a Sonos One (the one with the voice assistant built-in). I’ve absolutely loved it, especially as being a student I’ve moved to a bunch of different places in the meantime. Its small size and wifi functionality makes it easy to move around. I also have an ear condition which makes using earphones and headphones for longer than an hour extremely painful, so having a great quality speaker I can play from my Mac/iPad/iPhone and really enjoy my music has been a joy.But I’m wondering what the logical next step is in this setup. I don’t have a high income of course as a student, so what would be the best Sonos product to get to take listening to music to the next level? Would it be simply another Sonos One to go for a ‘stereo’ setup? Or is it better to just try and save up and scrape together the money for maybe a Sonos Five? Looking to install two 65” TV’s side by side on the wall in basement. Using the two separate TV’s for 2 sports events, video game streaming w/ sports on other tv, etc.  Has anyone found a good 3rd party switch that will allow you to toggle the audio back and forth depending on which TV you would like to play through use of a single Arc? I’d like to buy a single Arc for the basement and have the ability to toggle audio back and forth. Other option will be just buy two Beam’s and have them mounted under each TV. Thanks! 

I currently own a Sonos Arc that I use in a main entertaining room in my house. I am looking for suggestions on what additional speakers I should add to enhance the sound. Also, looking to play music louder.

I'm looking at the ceiling speaker package with Amp. What size room would these speakers be appropriate for?  Can anyone comment on sound quality compared to say a set ofPlay5s?

Total package cost $2696.99. Granted some high-end turntables start at $1200 on the low-end...so in the grand scheme of things my package is modest at best.However, that’s not the point of this post. The question to debate is...should you be satisfied with a turntable that has a built-in Preamp or one that requires a separate (outboard) Preamp. This is an odd questions but as a relatively new sonos user Im loving the community so I though I’d ask…..I bought 2 x Sonos ones (gen 2) a few months back and fell in love. Bought a new (half decent) turntable and a Sonos five to plug into - all working well.  My intention was to buy another five to run as a stereo pair for the turntable but in Australia stock is zero so I haven’t been able to buy one. So strangely I am listening to the stereo ones and the five (vertical) TOGETHER whilst I wait for stock. Because I have them set up together it’s easy to compare the stereo ones separately with the five (vertical and horizontal). They are all tuned via the app too.  Generally the stereo ones sound much better than the single five. Would that be right? It seems odd to switch from the stereo ones to the five and prefer the ones considering the five is a much more HiFi speaker. would it be possible at all to have 1 sonos 1 speaker (the one with Alexa built in) and use that to play music on all the othersie i ask the sonos 1 to play a song and the sound then comes out of all of the sonos 1s?i ask because ive got 6 Sonos 1 plays dotted about downstairs so rather than sell all of them and get the new ones it would be helpful to be able to play music through them all at once but with only the new sonos 1 taking the commands from the built in Alexa or would i be better buying an Amazon Echo or dot and setting it all up that way? thank you 

Just bought the Pro-Ject T1 Phono SB Turntable to Five and need some advice please:I want to connect both the CD player and turntable to the 5 without having to swop cables every time...is this possible? If so what type of cable should i get? Any recommendations for the cd player itself….is there a more suitable one for the 5?Appreciate your help. Thank you

I currently have a play 3 in my bedroom and it’s great for music.  I’m going to upgrade the sound on my TV so I’ve considered buying a Beam.  How is the Beam compared to the Play 3 for music? If I buy a beam I will move the Play 3 to another room.  Will the sound quality for music on the Beam be comparable to the Play 3?  If not I’ll just buy a lower cost sound bar for the TV and keep the Play 3 for music.Thanks

Hi, I currently have a surround sound setup that consists of 5 speakers (centre, 2 front and 2 rear) wired through a receiver.  With universal remotes being phased out and smart TVs recognizing inputs we are finding it more and more complicated to maintain this setup.  I am considering purchasing a sound bar and if I understand correctly I can then continue to use my wired rear speakers if I also purchase an amp.  I actually have an older connect amp that is not getting much use (that is currently set up in a different room). What I am wondering is if I can use this connect amp with a new sound bar or is this not possible because it is on the old  Sonos ‘system’ and a a new sound bar would be on the new app/system?thanks

Hi!  I am thinking about getting my first turntable.  I want one of ProJects turntable cause of the built in preamp. But what type and model?  And also: what shoul i buy of the port and amp? Whats the big difference? Somewhere down the road i might want to buy new speakers, and a different brand than Sonos.

I'm about to go ahead with upgrading my Play:1 in favour of the One SL. They look pretty much the same, so does anyone know if the speaker stands that I have for my Play:1 will fit just the same for the One SL?I've tried searching, but only seem to come up with the most inappropriate of answers!Thanks in advance.

Hi All, I am new to Sonos having stripped an old wired multiroom system out of the house. I just purchased a bundle 1 x ARC, 2  x Sonos 5, 1 x Sub with the intention of using the Arc and Sub for the TV room (possibly adding 2 X Sonos 1 for 5.1) and using the 2 X 5’s is a large living room solely for music.I haven’t set anything up yet as the hose is being decorated but I am wondering after some further reading if the better option for the music in the living room would be 2 X 1’s + Sub rather than 2 X 5. Both the 5’s or 1’s would be on speaker stands about 10 ft apart. From an aesthetic view I think the 2 X 1’s would be better but I am a low level audiophile and soundstage/quality will be the more significant factor.I have spoken to the supplier and as all boxed I can switch out the 2 5’s for 2 1’s + Sub for a very small additional cost.All thoughts and opinions welcome, thanks!

I have a fairly small TV room - 12 ft x 13 ft, with 8 ft ceiling and the main seating position 10 ft from the TV.  The room is fully enclosed.  Also, the TV is in a built-in cabinet with the main part 51 inches wide (pictures here). That would only leave 3 inches on either side if I place the Arc there. That is lower than the 4.5 inches recommended. It is somewhat offset by the fact that the front 1” or so of the Arc would be positioned in front of the cabinet wall (you can see the lip in the cabinet picture ).  I am wondering if I would be able to get the surround effect of the Arc given the cabinet and low-ish ceiling. Or would I be better off with a Beam 2?  

I have currently x 1 Sonos Play:5 (Gen 1) and three Sonos Play:1s all of which I cant use with the new software and cant paly things like BBC Sounds or Airplay. If I was to get a new Sonos IE the portable one can I use the New Software and play say BBC sounds through this and through the other older speakers?David Moderator Edit: clarified current models owned.

Wondering whether to use the upgrade program to move from a Beam (Gen 1) to a Beam (Gen 2). I’d originally been planning on getting a pair of Ikea Symfonisks to flesh-out a surround system for watching films. But I’m wondering whether the Atmos in the second-gen Beam might actually be a more efficient (and/or cost-effective) way of achieving a surround sound experience, in a relatively small room. Can anyone speak to the effectiveness of Atmos on this new Beam?
