I have a first gen Beam connected to my LG OLED via ARC. I also have generation 1 One in my dining room that doesn’t get used much. I only use the TV and internal apps, no other HT gear.

I’m thinking about using the One in a HT setup with the Beam. I’m not bothered about a sub at this point, the beam and One have adequate bass for now, but might do later.

Is this a good idea?

What do I need and what should I buy? Another One Gen 1, gen 2 or SL?

Would an Ikea Sonos speaker work, or would it need to be paired with another speaker the same? Do that Sonos ikea speakers even work in this way?

 Thanks 😊

Also can a forum mod please fix my title typo. Thanks!

If you want to use the One as a surround speaker with the Beam, you need to get another One or One SL. Read more about which Sonos speakers can be used as surrounds:

Rears have to be matching speaker types (i.e., the same model). I have a Beam Gen 2 with 2 Play 1’s (I only had one Play 1 and I bought the other on eBay for around $100). For around $200, you can buy a pair of IKEA speakers that run on Sonos (I forget the name) and use them as rears. Setup is simple and well worth the effort--the effect is magical--especially for music and atmos movies.

All the best,

Brian

Thanks guys. Just to clarify - can a One First gen be paired with a second gen?

(I might keep an eye on eBay for a second hand gen one, but I’ve seen a few gen 2’s go cheap too).

Yes, all generations of the One can be used together as surrounds. You can even use a One SL with a One.

I’m now thinking I should sell the One and get 2 of the ikea bookshelf speakers. Will work out cheaper overall. Are they any good though?

They are comparable to the One SL. Check out this side-by-side comparison:
