Voice control and smart home

I setup the new alexa skill for sonos and alexa understands my commands correctly. I replys correctly, that the e.g. tunein program is played on a specific sonos device. However, the music just does not play. Also if I speak a command to stop playing music on a sonos device, it just does not stop it.

I had the Sonos skill added and it was working for the most part. Playing my Pandora on the each player via Alex voice control. and I could see in the Sonos app the art of the current playing song. I updated the players and although Alexa says it is playing the music in the right location/device, I don't hear any music and the Sonos App on the iphone does not show that it is playing anything. The iOS sonos app is also up to date. I use an Echo Dot.

I have a Sonos PlayBase and 2 Sonos 1 speakers set up as a surround sound system and I have successfully used my Alexa Dot through my Sonos speakers. However, today I renamed my Sonos Group, told Alexa to forget the old Group and discovered the new Group. The new Group shows up on the Alexa app but when asked to play music through the new Group Alexa tells me it is off-line. It is not off-line as I am able to use the Sonos with all other applications. When I look at the Sonos device on the Alexa app I am told "oops something went wrong, please try again" Help please, how can I sort this?

Used the Sonos coupon to get a Dot for half price. 😃 Set up and tried the Dot last night for a short period. This is what happened; hope it's useful to others. TL;DR --- There appears to be some significant bugs in the software... It will work, but Buyer beware! My Sonos setup: Two Play:5s One Sonos Sub Sonos/Alexa/Amazon Music apps are on a Galaxy S7 cell phone. I use Amazon Music (NOT their Unlimited service). I mainly use Spotify but my understanding is that doesn't currently work with Dot/Sonos. SETUP Problem 1) While doing the Dot setup, set up failed and must be restarted when I multi-tasked (two windows open side-by-side) the Alexa app and the Gallery (pictures) app. I wanted to see a photo I took of my wifi router's label to easily read the wifi password. Bad move. Alexa stopped responding and I had to press the "action" button for 5 seconds to start the setup process over. So much for multi-tasking. I wrote my wifi password down on paper and continued.

Will l be able to play the music I have saved on my iPad via Echo dot on Sonos

I've just set up echo to discover my Sonos speakers in "living room" and "office". I'm able to tell Alexa to play music in either he living room or the office. I have not figured out how to have Alexa play on both speakers simultaneously.

Has anyone had problems when using amazon music started via Alexa with the volume on a track increasing and decreasing randomly?

I have a fully updated Alexa, Sonos and Sonos Play 1's (version 8.0). I've turned on the skill for Sonos through Alexa. When I go to "Discover Devices", it says "I couldn't find any smart home devices". Has anyone had this issue and been able to successfully fix?

How do I add all my sonos music library to Alexa?

Hi all and hello. If this question is in the wrong place, apologies.. My Sonos account is up to date. My Elexa app recognizes all my devises. I can get music playing from all devices but not at the same time. Sometimes one track is playing from one speaker and another from another. I cannot seem to get Elexa to sync and get one track playing from all speakers simultaneously. is this something that will be sorted or am I doing something wrong?

Hi there, There's a problem with Alexa+Sonos when the Sonos speaker shares the same name as the room that it's in that includes other devices. Here's where the problem starts: Philips Hue groups bulbs into rooms. I have Bathroom, Kitchen, Living Room, and Bedroom. Unsurprisingly, my Sonos speakers in those rooms are also called Bathroom, Kitchen, Living Room, and Bedroom. Before adding Sonos speakers to my list of Alexa devices, I could say "Alexa, turn off/on the bedroom," and the lights in my bedroom would react to the command. However, now that the Sonos speakers share the same name as the Hue Rooms, Alexa responds with, "Sorry, Bedroom is not responding," and I suspect it's because Sonos speakers don't have an on/off state. So what I'm looking for is some way for Alexa to know what device you're talking about based on the action you're requesting. Since Sonos speakers don't have on/off states, Alexa should know you meant the LIGHTS in a room, and not the speaker. it

Once you get music playing from Sirius can you ask Alexa to change stations to a given station..like 80's on 8?

Hi, I have a play 1 (known as “kitchen”) & a play 3 (known as “dining room”) set up in our kitchen/ family room. I’ve also got an amazon echo dot 2nd generation in the same room. Separately everything works perfectly, I.e. if I ask Alexa to play a track she does, like wise no issues with sonos speakers using the app. I’ve then added the sonos skill in Alexa app and grouped the play 1 & play 3 under the title “family Room”. I am using amazon music unlimited to stream music. Everything seemed to set up ok but now seem to be encountering several issues. For example, when I ask Alexa to play a track on either “sonos” or “family Room” it will simply play the last selected track played on sonos (selected within the app). Once playing I cannot adjust volume, skip track or stop the music. The volume will just dip after hearing the word Alexa and then go back to how it was. The only way I can control is to open the sonos app on phone which is not ideal. I’ve forgotten all devices on everything

How do you play music from your Music Library (I have a media server) via Alexa. Only seems to play from Internet?

I have my Sonos system configured to work with Alexa. I can say "Alexa, play Pink Floyd in the living room", and it works. The same is true of my family room. I have a Sonos Connect in the living room and family room. I can also use voice commands to play music on a single play 1 in my garage. However, in my sun room, I have a pair of play 1 speakers paired in stereo. When I use voice commands to play music in the sun room, whatever was last played in the Sonos app on these speakers plays, not what I tell Alexa to play. There are no other devices named "sun room". I tried forgetting them and re-discovering them, but that did not help. I think I'll try a different name and see if that helps. Anyone else experience this issue?

Has anyone recieved a voucher code yet from Sonos with a code to get money off an Amazon echo dot device. I haven't recieved one yet 😞

I am using an Echo Dot with my Sonos. I can’t seem to turn the volume up or down using Alexa voice command. It says my speakers are not compatible with this command.

So they announce Alexa integration with our Sonos systems. But of course they send a coupon for an Echo Dot after I buy one specifically for my Sonos. :? The Alexa integration is working well so far by the way. Really recommend it to anyone still on the fence. All it needs is Spotify controls integrated more thoroughly.

I have a grouping setup that comprises 2 play:3's, a sub and a playbar, and im trying to make it work with my echo dot. I have other rooms working fine with them (so i can issue voice commands to my echo dot and play music/radio on my bedroom play:one speakers) - but it doesnt seem to work for the living room "group". Is this supported right now or is it something thats being worked on for a future update?

What command would be used to get Alexa to play in all rooms?

Is there a way to connect an Echo Dot to a Sonos Connect without using the Audio Inputs (i.e. wirelessly)? I ask this because I am already using the Audio input to connect the tv cable box to the Connect. I have a hard wired non-Sonos sound bar and hard-wired non-Sonos speakers throughout the house. I'm hoping to get this set up so that I can use the echo dot to control my speakers through the Connect. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

I will start this with a caveat that all of this is speculation because I still have to see Alexa working with Sonos, so anyone that has is encouraged to shoot it down in a hurry if it isn't valid. It was triggered by a recent conversation here about trouble with Radio play started via a voice command as compared to via a controller tap. On reflection it occurs to me that compared to tapping a specific line item, voice commands are convenient, but not made granular as easily as the former. An example: A station that I listen to, Radio Paradise, offers users a way to pick a stream out of a few options, that works best for them. The higher 320k bitstream offer better sound quality but also needs/consumes more internet bandwidth than the also offered lower one of 128 k. But if one can use the higher one, choosing its URL in the Sonos controller and assigning the Radio Paradise name to it ensures that the controller tap on the name will always result in the 320k bitstream being selected

The Alexa app for my Dot has found all three of my Sonos devices. When I ask it to play, for example radio on the Playbar, nothing happens and the Dot tells me it doesn’t recognise the name Playbar. Thinking it may be confused when I say the name Playbar into it, because of inclusion of the word “play” in the instruction I renamed it TV in the Sonos app. However it’s made no difference. Now when I ask it to play on the TV, as before nothing happens other than it tells me it cannot find anything called TV although it is recognised in the Alexa app as I have rescanned my devices. Other two devices are okay. Anyone any ideas please? Thanks.

I currently have a Playbar, sub and 2 play 1's setup as living room, and a single Play 1 in the kitchen. I want to add voice control, obviously an option is to add an Echo Dot , but I was wandering if I bought one of the new 'Ones' .. if I could replace one of my current Play 1's in the Living room , and then move the reduntant play one to pair with the other in the kitchen . .So I'm guessing what the essential question is .... Do the new Ones sound the same as the Play 1's or will I notice the difference in the sound ?
