Voice control and smart home

Sonos is my "whole-house" music system. I also use Amazon music as my source for most music. I would like an option to have all sound and music that comes via Alexa to be played through Sonos by default - so that I don't have to call out the room ID every time. Is something like this in the works between Sonos and Amazon?

I understand what you are saying but I feel you are missing a few points: - Your first comment referenced the demise of Sonos if they didn't address specific minor complaints from customers not the ability of other organisations to compete with Sonos, hence my comment about Google Assistant; - I agree that if Amazon decided to target the high end multi room audio market their R&D budget would be much bigger than Sonos could respond to but the strategy of Sonos is to move their product line to include multiple AI's from Amazon & Google and maybe Microsoft - something that I suspect that any of those three organisations would be unable to achieve (hence a good defence against this approach); - At present, Amazon's strategy appears to be about market saturation with Alexa, and at this time selling hardware at cost, so that it is the 'go to' voice control solution. As of today I can't get BBC Radios 2 or 4 to play on my Sonos Ones. It says it's playing eg BBC Radio 4 from TuneIn but it doesn't. Anyone else getting this?

Why, oh, why does everyone seem to think that cloud based integration is a good thing? It's the worst possible scenario. You have an automation controller and some Sonos boxes right there, possibly in the same room, but we have to communicate through the entire outside world in order for them to talk to each other, and of course not talk at all if the internet connection is down. It's just ridiculous and I have to wonder if companies really understand the amount of backlash against these cloud based systems is growing out there. We, and probably every other automation controller vendor, tell clients to avoid cloud based APIs and use devices that let them maintain control of their own systems. Ask for advice on any automation related forum and experienced people will immediately tell you to avoid cloud based APIs. Since the latest Sonos update our Alexa music connections no longer work. Alexa introduces the song, album or artist and then plays nothing? I've logged out of accounts and re-entered details and still no luck. Had everything working perfect before update, not happy Sonos!

Got my Beam installed yesterday and it’s really great but having problems getting Alexa to control Spotify through it. Works on all my Dots around the house so not sure why not on the Beam. Everything seems connected from an account perspective (Sonos connected to Spotify connected to Alexa). BTW Alexa works via the Beam for other skills like weather and time etc. Any ideas anyone?

Can we have an honest answer here guys. The sonos one has been out now for a year, some new features added to appease some users. Some of us though have been patiently waiting for our sonos one with alexa to get up to speed. Issues such as napster integration, ducking, apple music, local files playback, multi room, calling, routines etc just seem to be forgotten about. We get the fact that sonos wont/cant give road map timescales but snippets like we are working on this or this has been discussed with whoever would certainly help. I feel sorry for alexa in my house, i ask it to do something, it cant, it then gets told its rubbish and gets switched off immediately. Right now, my opinion is the sonos one was a waste of money linked to ridiculous hype.

Just got a Sonos ONE and I’m trying to integrate the right Alexa skills. Unfortunately, even though it recognizes that I’ve asked it to play NPR One, it doesn’t actually playback. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have no interest in "smart" speakers. I just want to use Sonos as a way of streaming audio from my devices. Is it possible to completely disable Alexa and Siri voice control of the Sonos system using the Sonos app, rather than a button on the speaker? I know this is possible with the HomePod, but I've heard it's not with Sonos One. We have a 7-year old daughter with friends that have these speakers, so she knows how they work. My concern is that she will just press the button on the speaker to turn the functionality back on if that is the only way to turn it off.

I have Philips Hue with Smart Bulbs throughout my home. Majority of commands for lights are given through my Sonos One's and Beam. I have a lamp on one of two night stands in bedroom that was not responding to commands. Checked the Alexa app and it showed "Light unresponsive". Quick Fix was to remove/re-install the bulb. Took all of a minute and everything was back to normal. Commands through Sonos One worked. As I said this is a quick fix and doesn't rule out a defective bulb. It wasn't Wi-Fi as the light on the opposite night stand responded to commands (besides I run in Boost mode for Sonos). Just thought I'd share the experience. Cheers!

The title pretty much says it all: where are the microphones located? Are the at the top of the speaker? The bottom? Where?

does anyone know how to group a couple of ONEs with other dot / speak combo? So frustrating having multiple groups when I just want one group of all speakers

I have set everything up and Alexa /sonos one will repeat the command , but then it will not follow through to change the channel . is it not available ?

Could anyone be of help, I would be grateful. Have two Sonos one’s in stereo and the in past few days when I ask Alexa to stop playing one speaker fails to stop. Everything was working O.K until this last update of Alexa. Have tried turning off the mic for awhile but it does not work. Tried also resetting the stereo, no solution and the problem is there when I group the speakers, but seems Ok when the speakers are used independently.

Will Alexa work with Apple Music? For example if I ask Alexa to play a certain song will that work with my Apple Music account or does it only work with Amazon music?

Can I pair my Play 1 with a new One ? I was told this would not be possible ? If not, is there a software crack available to allow this or is there a community which could make one ? If not, will Sonos release it as a nearby future feature and is a release data available ? I don't want to buy another play 1 to have stereo pairing available. Having to purchase a new pair of One's while already having a Play 1 makes my Play 1 obsolete. Sonos not providing a backwards compatibility to stereo pair between Play 1 and One which are in fact identical speakers would be very disappointing and I may rather prefer to chose for a system from a different supplier if customers loyalty will not be rewarded by being able to leverage the previous investment in the Play 1.

How can I use Alexa to play podcasts on my Sonos One

I just added 2 Sonos One's to my Playbar with Sub as surround sound speakers (5.1 theater config). Music sound level is good but Alexa voice volumn level is too LOW! I can hardly hear her response even when I am very close to the Sonos ONE. If I touch the Sonus ONE to increase the volumn it causes all the speakers to increase in volumn (and Alexa voice volumn is still too low). Anyone having this problem and/or know a solution for it? Is there possible an issue using Sonus ONE in a surround configuration?

This may be nothing at all and just a coincidence related to another undetermined issue. That said after upgrading the Sonos App to 8.1.1 my Sonos One (Stereo Pair) would only play music located on my iOS devices. Command to Alexa via Sonos One to play music (which defaults to my Amazon Prime Music) would play on Sonos speakers in other rooms not on the Sonos One. The same thing held true for Sirius XM. Ironically the Hue Skill was not affected. After basic trouble shooting: -Unplug Sonos One's -Disable and re-enable voice skills in Sonos App and Alexa App -Remove and re-discover Sonos One's in Sonos App and Alexa App -Disable and re-enable Music service skills (i.e. Amazon Music and Sirius XM) -None of the above resolved the issue. The cure was to delete the Alexa App and download it again to my iOS device. Just FYI in case someone has a similar experience. Cheers!

I'm having a hard time reconnecting my sonos to echo. Every time i enable the sonos app it gives me this message - Add your Sonos speakers to your account You need to link speakers to XXXXXX@yahoo.com before you can add this skill. Go to More > Settings > Sonos Account in the Sonos app to link your speakers. (If you don't see Sonos Account, your Sonos system needs an update.) My sonos is already linked/added to this account. The app is up to date. Tried uninstalling both apps logged back on. Profile updated since I saw the address is missing it's still giving me that message every time I enable to the app. HELP!

When I ask Alexa to play music from either prime music or pandora she says "Shuffling songs from" or "Getting your last Pandora Station" but then never plays any music. It was working fine before, but I've been experiencing this problem for the last couple of months.

Hi All So HDL has the 'works with Sonos' certification; but I for the life of me can't see how it works with Sonos at all. I found a product (Iridium) that talks to Sonos, and HDL - which kind of makes the two talk - but its not HDL working with Sonos at all, more of a control platform that talks to both of them... so I assume this isnt it. Any ideas?

Why will Echo sometimes play only a sample of a track on my Sonos system? Example, 'Alexa, play one in ten by UB40 on family room'. Reply 'playing sample of one in ten by UB40 on family room' Family room is the name I selected for my Sonos I should add that if I ask Alexa to play the same track on the Echo it will play the full track. Is there a fix for this? Getting rather frustrated by it 😞

I have a pair of play 1's in my kitchen. I would like to also have an echo show in my kitchen with the sound played on the Sonos speakers. Is this possible? Not just for music, I want the sound for videos to come through the Sonos Speakers as well, and everything else the Echo Show outputs to audio.
