Is it possible to connect a play 3 with my tv without having a playbar?

I recently ditched my Sony HD TV and replaced it with a BenQ HT2050 projector. I'm trying to adapt my Sonos pieces to a home theatre powered by this projector and a 4th gen AppleTV. [b]Challenges / Questions: [/b] Can I set up the Playbar without an optical connection? It's a Sonos speaker right? So I should be able to add it to a Sonos network, or so I thought. But the app keeps wanting me to connect via optical. Neither the projector nor the AppleTV has optical ports. Is that the end of the discussion?? Assuming I CAN add in the Playbar without optical, my plan is to run a minijack (3.5mm) audio cable out of the projector and into the Play 5. The projector's ONLY audio out is this minijack. That feed will power all the other Sonos Speakers, to include the playbar and eventually two Play 1 speakers as tweeter/surround sounds. Is there a better way of getting audio into the Sonos network other than the Play 5? Maybe with a Connect? FYI my projector is mounted on the ceili

So after some research it seems like if you have a few options if you plan to use a projector with sonos. I just want to make sure I understand the options. It seems like this is a popular question and hopefully this can be a good summary to the question. (sorry for the poor use of terms here, I am no A/V expert).  [list=1][*]The best case would be to have an Optical Audio out from the projector. You then connect your "data output device" i.e. tv box aka Sky, comcast, ATT, dvd player etc, to the projector. Then you run an toslink (optical audio cable) from the projector to the playbar (yes this requires a long cable) to the front of the room. With this setup there is no delay in audio (lipsync effect)[*]If your projector does not have an optical Out then but your "data output device" does then you can run the optical cable from the "data output device" to the playbar. Hi there, please can anyone help, it’s probably very basic for some but would really help me out. I have three Sonos speakers around the house, one being the Sonos play 5 (gen 2) in the living room, I have connnected my new Dot (gen 2) via the line in function. With the new beta release from sonos can I now use my dot to play through my sonos speakers using Wi-fi and not the line in? Secondly I have been subscribed to deezer ever since I bought my sonos speakers, can I control deezer (or access this) through my dot? Any replies or help,is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi whenI try to enable the Sonos skill I get a message saying "Oops there was a problem, please close the app and try again" which I have done numerous times. I have updated my Sonos players and I ave completed the Sonos account set up ok. Can anyone help me with the skill set up? Thanks John

Since the last update rolled out a few days ago the Sonos app on my phone is taking forever and a day to launch. I timed it this afternoon, the black "Sonos" screen was there for four and a half minutes before the app finally came up. This has been the case every time I've tried to open the app to turn my system on or off or change the station. Needless to say, it is tiresome. Once the app appeared all was good. Is this problem unique to me? What might it be thinking about while it's sitting there? Any suggestions beyond the obvious of power cycling everything? (didn't help) The app on my Mac comes up as fast as usual. All systems are running the most recent versions of software, as of this morning.

Hi, I'm relatively new to Sonos and have my computer running the Sonos app, streaming out to speakers via WIFI. My issue is that I want to add my MP3 collection to Sonos, all guides tell me to use the Manage menu but almost all options there are greyed out. The settings screen only shows date & time options. By searching these forums the standard reply seem to be a version mismatch between the Sonos app and hardware. How can I fix this? The version of my Sonos app is 8.0 -- what can I do to make sure that the versions are correct and I can access all settings? It's not like I can update my speakers or what is going on? This is fairly urgent so any feedback is greatly appreciated. Best wishes Wim

hi there,how do i connect a dot to my playbar? theres no 3.5 socket.

Due to the loss of Sonos functionality caused by Cascading, Software Upgrade Incompatibility ... I'm going to have to make some changes. I am currently running a Sonos system with 2 Sonos Connect, a Sonos Connect Amp, a Play:3 and a Play:5 I am controlling these with the "Sonos Controller for Mac" Version 7.0 on a MacBook Pro running 10.7.5 I also have a hard drive plugged into my wireless router that contains all of my personal music and that I frequently access with my Sonos system. If I get rid of the Macbook, could I run the entire set-up with just a dedicated iPad Mini? Seems like these could be had on Ebay for under $200. Would an iPad work better? I plan on making this a dedicated device so that future Sonos upgrades that require me to also upgrade my OS, won't impact all my other software. Thanks for any recommendations. Gary

Are there plans to add the speakers to a scene in Alexa? It would be nice to add them to scenarios. Currently "I'm home" turn my lights on, it would be nice if it started music playback on my sonos speakers too. Same to stop. Currently they do not show under the Scenes tab in the Alexa app. Maybe Sonos needs to sort grouping through alexa first though?

I know that you can press the mute button on top to prevent the mic listening in for privacy reasons but for using Play:One in kids' rooms where I simply don't want my kids to use the Alexa feature to ask for an endless string of knock knock jokes is there a way to disable it that's more permanent? Out of the box is Alexa enabled? Or is it only active (listening, responding, etc) if one logs into an Amazon account and links the Play:One to it, enables Alexa skills, etc. Those are things a kid can't do and so it would effectively disable the Alexa feature for my purposes. But if out of the box Alexa has some functionality then I suspect it's likely more of a distraction than we want in the rooms where they're theoretically doing homework. :-)

Hi, Will the amazon echo 2nd gen play music with the sonos speakers in harmony, I have a few sonos speakers already and am keen to get the echo for voice control on songs, I believe the echo will play music as it is but will it play along with the sonos, I'm asking this because I would like to get another small speaker for the kitchen, so rather than buying a sonos speaker and a echo dot seperatly, I could just get the new echo to do both the jobs?

I want to ask Alexa to play music through BOTH its own speaker and my Sonos speaker. It seems to only play through EITHER. Is there a way to play through both? The Sonos app doesn't seem to allow the Echo to be part of the group that the Sonos speaker is in.

Does anyone know if/when Alexa will be supported by SONOS? I've seen a lot of conversations about a public trial in 2017 but nothing specific about dates and official release. Can anyone confirm if this integration is actually going to happen?

Hi there. Help please. I have a Playbase, and 2 x Play 1 that have worked as a surround sound set, for months. The Play 1's have stopped working now. I have tried all the obvious stuff, volume, rebooting, removing and re-adding. I have created a stereo pair as one forum suggested and added them back in. The controller adds them back in to the playbase, and then on the final stage says "There was a problem preparing your speakers" I have tried another Sonos Play 1 with the same problem, I have reset all the speakers, and started from scratch, Help ... it's driving me mad, and I have a new episode of Stark trek discovery to watch !!! I'm aware that this has been raised many times already, but the more I read the more confused I get! ? I have a Panasonic DMP UB900 4K Blu ray player, connected via HDMI to an LG55B7 tv. Which in turn is connected via optical to my Playbase /sub/play 1s. Problem being the Panasonic doesn't convert DTS to 5.1, and Playbase doesn't do DTS audio. I think there are players from Samsung and Oppo that can do the conversion- perhaps some kind soul out there could confirm that-so if necessary I'll stick the Panasonic on EBay and get a new player, but is there another way around the problem? I can get stereo sound off the discs but that's a poor substitute for 5.1.

We have purchased a Play 1 for a home owner who wanted wireless audio in the bathroom. Our issues though are: 1) he refuses to use the Sonos app and 2) it turns out he mostly uses the YouTube app on an iPhone as a music source. After researching the forums thoroughly, I have come to understand that we could buy a Play 5 for him along with a Bluetooth receiver, put it in another room, and the audio could be sent to both the Play 5 and the Play 1 that way. What I need to understand before investing in another Sonos is speaker is whether (after the initial setup) the audio could be sent from the iPhone via Bluetooth without using the Sonos app at all: just turn on bluetooth, connect to the receiver and play audio from the phone. If that's the case, during the initial setup in the Sonos app I could select whether the audio is sent automatically to the Play 1, the Play 5 or both, right? And if I manage to convince him to learn how to use the app, he could use it to select which of the spe

Guys, I ordered a couple of Play1's from the Sonos website last week. Amazon then had a sale for Play1 two days ago so I ordered it from Amazon thinking I'll return the previous ones. When the Amazon ones arrived I noticed that the boxing is different and when I read the year manufactured it was 2015. On the previous ones it's 2017. Is there a difference in the hardware capability wise? I tried looking online but didn't find anything. I'm worried it might not support future integrations. The hardware number of the 2015's one is 1.20.1.6-1.

I use an Echo Dot in the same room as a Sonos Play:5. Obviously I don't want the Dot to also play the radio sound coming through Sonos when the Sonos is on, but if I turn down the Dot's volume then that volume is too low when the Dot speaks. Is there a way to separately turn up the Dot's volume when she speaks, but turn the it's volume off when she isn't?

How can I get Alexa to play a specific "station" from one of my services? Example would be asking Alexa to play "Easy Listening" on Stingray Music?

Just set it up today, after 3 hours it cut off. Rebooted, unplugged, nothing. Wired speakers still work (Connect Amp). Do I need a new AMP?

After the latest update, the volume on my play 5 has changed with my echo dot. It use to be too loud when the dot was turned up all the way, my line in was boosted to 10, and I was half way up on the sonos volume. Now the audio from the dot is noticeably quieter, and changes randomly, quieter, then back to set volume. Has anyone else had a similar issue here? Diagnostic 7926558 submitted.
