Boost Mode & Adding New Speakers

I’m curious. When a system is in ‘Boost’ mode, does a new speaker only use sonosnet to join the system and obtain uodates etc, or does it initially use wifi before placing itself onto the Mesh? I’m guessing the latter. As today i added a new pair of Play Ones in the garage which is integral (in the basement, with concrete ceiling above solid block walls on all sides ) where my iphone could not get a wifi signal (iphones kept seipping the signal if I obtained it outside the gagrage and then entered). I could get a signal inside the ‘house’ part of the basement, and the Play Ones joined, uodated and played like troopers. Router is two storeys up theough two concrete floors. So either Mesh works from the outset or they have some amazingly strong wifi! Anyone know the answer?

Surround sound not working with TV or Cable Box

I have a Toshiba model 55UL605U TV and Cisco Explorer 8642HDC cable box. I have a Playbase and 2 Play:1's. I have tried connecting the IR Audio to the TV and then to the cable box and the surround sound does not work with either option. It works fine when playing music. The TV has Dolby Digital Plus and the cable box settings for audio say Digital. Any ideas on why the setup is not working?

Can't seem to use desktop controller on Mac or iPad when my iPhone is out of the house. Message states my iPhone isn't found. Have i set the other controller apps up incorrectly?

Dealing with storage limitations

I've had a Sonos system for a couple of months now, and already, "my Sonos" will no longer hold any more albums or playlists. Is there a simple work-around for this problem? Is that what "My Cloud Home" and "Plex" are for, since both are add-on services for Sonos?

Will a Niles SI-2150 Amplifier Auto Sense a Sonos Connect

I have reviewed numerous posts on this subject, but have yet to find a definite answer. I've spoken to Niles and Sonos and neither can say if it will. I currently have several Sonos Components. I have Definitive Technology AW6500s on my patio and Definitive Technology DI8Rs in the kitchen. Both pairs are powered by separate Connect Amps, and sound great. I have a pair of Niles RS6SI rock speakers on another Connect Amp. The Niles rocks sound great, but seem power starved at louder levels. I have these by my pool connected with 100-125' of 12Awg. I have been offered a pair of Niles RS8SI rock speakers, and I know these will require more power. So, to do this I just ordered a Sonos Connect and a Niles SI-2150 amplifier. With the Sonos Connect connected to the Niles amp with RCA, will the Sonos Connect activate the Niles amp's audio sensing? I've read a few posts saying it will, and some saying it won't. My components are in a closet and I don't want to have to power the amp on/off ma

Does Alexa Recognize different Voices?

Hello folks, newb to the community here. I just got a one and everything is set up fine except multiple voices recognition. When I try to add my voice using my iPhone, I never can click the "Begin" phase, the button is always greyed out. It always says I need a recognized device ... is the One, not a recognized echo yet? Thanks so much

Can you run a play 5 1st gen directly thru the alexa sonos skill? I have set up the skill it see the speaker but alexa does not recognize it. Just want to play tunein or send bluetooth music from my phone to alexa then to the play 5

Sonos app can't find any music on my device

Hi, I have recently installed the sonos app on my Samsung g7. It all works great except when I want to play music from my device: no file appear, even when I have mp3 files in my Music folder. I have tried other location but nothing works. I have also removed and reinstalled the app and it didn't work eighter. Thanks for your help!

Is the Beam right for me

Hello: Do you think the Beam is right for me? I am currently heavily invested in Sonos with 12 speakers in 9 zones, all for music. I mostly play music off my NAS and also stream Sirius/XM Satellite radio. My listening taste are mostly Springsteen, Classic Rock, Classical, Opera and Jazz. A secondary question would be whether to take the plunge on the Sub. My interest in the Beam is in improving the audio out of my inexpensive LED TV's. I don't sit down to watch TV for hours; the TV's are often on in the background while eating, playing with the dog, etc. An exception to this is playing the Switch. Because I'm not watching home theater, I was never interested in the Playbar/Playbase that cost more than my TV's. I would be interested in the Beam for these three TV's: #1 Living Room TV: Samsung UN46EH6000 Sonos: 2 X Play 5. They are currently parallel to the TV, about five feed off to either side. TV sound through multiple speakers?

Is it possible to play tv sound through more than just the playbar and attached designated surround speakers? When I play music through a group and then I put tv on it stops all speakers except playbar and the Two surround speakers. How can I have tv sound come out of more speakers at same time?

Default Echo Dot to One Sonos Room

Hi all! I have a Playbar installed in the Family Room. I wanted to add an Echo Dot for volume control and to play music through the playbar. My question is, can I give Alexa commands for this without having to say "In the Family Room" every time? It would be great if we could default all commands to be the playbar for this one Echo Dot. "Alexa, set volume 3 in the family room" "Alexa, Play Van Morrison in the living room" It's just a bit long winded. This dot will only ever be to control this one setup. I looked for a way to default things but was unable to find them. Other Info: We currently have just the one Sonos device. We do have other Echo Dots in the house. Any suggestions or tips appreciated.

Best Floor standing Speakers for Connect Amp

Hi all, I want to buy some new floor standing (preferably white) speakers to use on my connect amp. They’ll be in the front room and mainly used for TV and music. I have been using a pair of tannoys that I purchased about 20 years ago so am in major need of an upgrade and wondered what experience and recommendation people may have. Price wise I don’t really want to go over £1k for the pair. Many thanks

Alexa won't play BBC radios 4

Since updating my Sonos One to 8.6, I haven’t been able to play certain radio stations in particular the main BBC radio stations Radio 1, 2 3 and 4 , when started from Amazon Alexa, although it will play local BBC radio stations from Alexa. When I request:- Alexa “Play BBC radio 4”, Alexa says “Here’s radio 4 FM” then you here in another voice “The BBC” then it’s just silence. But if I go to my iPad and call up BBC Radio 4 it then plays ok. Can I go back to how it use to work?

Beam and Fire TV Cube

It seems like the Fire TV Cube was built to perform many similar functions as the Beam in terms of smart voice control (e.g. remote control capabilities). Are the two going to be able to work together?

Connect amp not playing rca input

Hi I recently bought a connect:amp to replace an old Cambridge audio a5 amp which I used to listen to vinyl. I have 2 technics 1210s which play via a pioneer dj 300 mixer.these were hooked up to my old amp which powered 2 4ohm speakers perfectly fine. However I wanted to be able to utilise these speakers for streaming music and also to stream my vinyl to other areas of the house. Therefore I bought the connect :amp thinking this would be a very straight forward process of replacing my old amp with the connect amp. I have the mixer connected to the connect amp via rca and I cannot get any sound. When I stream music through the connect or link it with my Playbase the 4 ohm speakers work perfectly fine. Any idea why the connect amp won't play the rca input. As far as I'm aware the mixer acts as a pre-amp so can't understand why I'm not getting any sound. The mixer clearly shows that a signal is coming from the channels were the turntables are playing

I need some help here to an old topic. I have a Sonos Playbar 5.1 Home Theater System, HP Laptop with only1 HDMI Port and no Digital Optical Port , and an EPSON Projector with 2 HDMI Inputs and no Outputs at all. How do I make this work? Can I split the HDMI OUT from the Laptop to 1 HDMI OUT and 1 Digital Optical Out? Any other ideas?

Are sonos playlists stored where you can access them and manually edit them?

Along with throngs of others in the community, I would love to see Sonos invest in a little software update to enable more robust playlist management (for example, sorting to find duplicate songs in large playlists). However, it seems this feature request is being ignored and is never going to be implemented. So, now I'm wondering where I can find my sonos playlists on the file system and if I can manually edit them to clean up duplicates. Is this possible?

Unable to download update on phone app or windows laptop

I am unable to download update - continue to get error code 1101. I have rebooted my router and my Sonos. I've deleted and reinstalled the app on each devise. Any assistance is appreciated

5.1 Home Cinema - Play Bar or Play Base???

Hi. So the new house build is nearly complete and I'm about to take the plunge. I've had wired 5.1 separates in the past, but this my first foray into Sonos. Having read up, Googled and read previous threads here, I'm still a little unsure of which to get - PlayBase or PlayBar. Removing the obvious decider from the equation, wall mount or bench top, as I can have either arrangement, for those who have tried both, which delivered the better sound? I'll be buying the Sub and two Ones to use as rear surrounds at the same time. The deeper and richer the bass and mids, the better as far as I'm concerned. Looking at the overall footprint and mass of the PlayBase, everything's making me lean in that direction rather than the Bar. We only use the following input/ouput which helps narrow things down possibly: We have a Sony 4k TV and using the internal Android, we use the built in Netflix and Prime Video Apps. We have Sky Q connected via HDMI to the TV. Music is only played

Issues with Sonos One and Alexa commands after 8.6

I have a Sonos One which was working perfectly with Amazon music (Prime) and Tune In Radio via Alexa until the 8.6 update. Now it will not play Amazon Music. For example, if I say 'Play rock' its says 'No rock music found', but I can use the Android app and chose Amazon music and it works fine - the same command works fine on my Echo Dot. If Is say 'Play Radio 2' it now longer says it is playing it from Tune In, it says 'playing Radio 2' but there is no sound. When I ask for my daily briefing it starts playing the briefing at a lower voulme before it finishes saying the words 'Playing your daily briefing' How can I fix this? thanks

Hearing Impaired - TV Solution

My father is ageing and as such, losing is having trouble with hearing dialogue on TV. If he has the volume at the level he can hear, it is too loud for my mother. Can Sonos be configured so he has, say a playbar and a second speaker that mirrors the playbar sound he can have by his chair? At present he has a Bose system, but as a 5.1 system, the rear speakers are used for surround sound and do not contain all sound elements he needs. Secondly, I would ask if it is easy to have the sound controlled through a generic remote - he would struggle using his iPhone or iPad to get his sound up and running. Hope someone can help, the stores I have been to have zero idea for a solution - I would not have thought we are pioneers here... Thank in advance.
