Using Windows Media Player. Want to 'cast' music to a Sonos speaker from my laptop. How do I change speaker IP number to a more useful name?

On my iPhone 6, the Sonos app shows a list of the alphabet letters down the right-hand side of the screen when I display the "songs" listing. If I slide my finger up & down the alphabet, a larger version of each letter appears near the lower centre of the main screen. I'd expect the main list to jump to that letter when I lift off my finger but nothing seems to happen at all. I would also expect that if I tapped on a single letter that the main list would jump to that letter, but again nothing happens (other than that the adjacent song sometimes gets sleeted because of fat finger syndrome). I'm attaching a screenshot here. My songs are on a NAS drive (a Brennan B2) and I haven't yet grouped them into artists, albums etc as that info apparently doesn't get transferred from the B2. I have no trouble using this sort of alphabetic slider in (f'rinstance) the Contacts app on the iPhone but cannot see how it's supposed to work in the Sonos app.

Does anyone know when the Alexa app is going to launch..?

I'm planning to create a VPN between my holiday home in USA and my main home in UK. Its really so I can access BBC iplayer and use Wi-Fi calling on my mobile phone. Then I got to thinking what other possibilities this might open up. If I get a Sonos box or two in USA will I be able to access my music library on my NAS and have access to all my music services on my UK setup? If its possible is there any way this needs to be configured?

I used to be able to access my music (all in iTunes) with my Sonos controller; however, it has abruptly stopped working.  When I try to add the folder to my Music Library, I get the error message: "Unable to add the shared folder "\\AMY-PC\Music" to your Music Library (1002)."  I've seen that this is a common error and believe I have followed the steps otherwise laid out (e.g., Kaspersky firewall access).  I'm still receiving the error.  Any ideas?

Has any progress been made at all with allowing Mac users to use their Sonos speakers as wireless output speakers for their computer? If not, when can we expect this incredibly useful function?

Hello, I was wondering if anybody has used any volume control on individual ceiling speakers ran off Sonos Connect Amp? I currently have 2 pairs of ceiling speakers (Polk Audio RC80i) connected on either side of the amp and i would like to put a volume control inbetween to control each speaker individually? Is this possible? I am looking at the Russound ALT-126R Impedence matching volume control. Please see image for a description of what my setup looks like. I have wired my speakers in 16 Gauge speaker wire. I ask for any help i can get!! Thank you for your time. Shaun

I have my music library on one computer that I would like to continue to use for that purpose while using controllers on my laptop and android phone. Ideally, I would like that computer to go to sleep when not used but be woken up when I start my playlist. Right now the music computer is using the wireless network. I have set "Wake on LAN" on the music computer's BIOS but have two problems. First, the machine doesn't seem to go to sleep on the timer when the music is paused - the screen shuts off but the disk keeps doing something. I can make it sleep from the power button. Is the Sonos continuing to do something to keep the network connection open or might it be something else? When I do put the computer to sleep, I can't wake it through my Sonos controller. Any ideas if it is possible to make this work? Thanks.

I am unable to open the Sonos windows app on my desktop (w10) it just hangs on the intro screen. Can anyone help? (i have uninstalled & reinstalled it to no avail!

ok... so i got gideon and yonomi... how do i control playbase to play/pause select genre etc with siri ??? can i sync it with nano leaf aurora? or philips hue? why $700 player doesn't connect/able to be controlled via voice apps.

When trying to add  Music to SONOS, I get the error "The Computer 'Pete-iMac' refused to let Sonos connect to it". I am using the following location when I get this error: /Users/peterellison/Music/iTunes However, when I specify the default location of /Users/peterellison/Music, it works fine. I need to specifically choose the iTunes folder and not the whole Music folder, since I have music production files in my Music folder, and I don't want 50,000 WAV samples being added to SONOS. Also to note, I've tried it with my Firewall off, and I have set up my Sharing setting correctly. In addition, my iMac is new. Previously I was running SONOS on Snow Leopard OSX without any issues. Now I'm on Yosemite OSX

so my Kindle Fire which sits in the kitchen and it sole purpose is to control the Sonos from that spot in my house, is now useless. I get that it is an old tech product, but at least it had a life and purpose until now. How about letting us run the last version of you SONOS app without all the new updated features, which makes my Kindle Fire extinct. Can you please release or sign the old app for our older technology devices to work? I have invested in SONOS to the tune of 3K+ throughout my home, would be nice to let old technology run. Am I the only one that repurposes old technology to work in the modern day? thanks, mlh

I do not own any Sonos products (yet). I am considering going with the Coonect and then adding a couple Play 1 to start. Currently I have a Bose SoundTouch Link and the theory was I'd go with the Bose SoundTouch line of speakers. That was until I stared using the Bose app. In short, the app is so God awful its basically unusable. To me, its so bad, I cannot justify buying into the Bose system. Here are a few features not possible with Bose app that are deal breakers: 1. When I create a playlist in Amazon Music, the playlist will not be imported into the Bose app 2. There is no way to scroll to a specific spot in a song while its playing. You cannot drag the current time back or forward. 3. You cannot search for songs within the Bose app. This has got to be the dumbest think in the world, no search. Really? Further annoyances are the screen is white. How dumb is that!! Is there a reason the Sonos app is always running on my s5? When I force quit the app, it reboots almost immediately. Is anyone else experiencing this battery drain?

Since the last update, I have been having issues with the Sonos Controller. I am currently running on the latest software versions for both the device and Sonos platform for iPhone, iPad, and iMac. The controller 8/10 will open but not connect asking me to setup new device. This morning after 10 minutes I opened the app again and indeed it worked. Yet, when I move to my iMac and opened Sonos app then it says it can't find the system. Running Boost with Playbar, Sub and 2 Play 1's for surround. DSL Modem ---> x-3 (xClaim) Access Point ---> Boost Submitted Diagnostics to Sonos: Referece ID 7538443 Thanks for any help!

I have started having connection problems on my computer. It stop responding and is slow. It works well form I-pad or IPhone.

Hello, For the last days I've had an issue which happens several times a day. I control my sonos system from a windows 8.1 computer with the sonos and spotify applications. During playback, sometimes the playing stops and the sonos application displays a message that says "Unable to play cloud queue - access is denied". It then deselects my sonos device from the spotify application (in the spotify connect devices list). I have added a screenshot of the error in attachment. Then I have to try again several times (play - select the sonos device) until it works again. Could you help me out please? Thank you.

There is no longer a way to link Sonos to the iTunes library on my iMac. There is no way to set the computer to never sleep (just the display). What to do? All of the music in my library in inaccessible.

I'd like to play music on both a Sonos-1 speaker and another Bose bluetooth speaker, has anyone done it? guess an external app that rips the sonos stream and broadcasts it out via bluetooth would be needed. Any help will be very welcomed...!

I appreciate that nothing much, if at all, can be officially revealed regarding Alexa and Sonos, but when I tested a Dot, I could only access Spotify. Now i am a subscriber to Apple Music. I'm guessing I will not be able to access Apple through my Sonos with Alexa but as my library is stored on an NAS can someone speculate(!) if I will be able to access my library with Alexa? Thanks.

When playing songs from Play Music, you can fast forward them no problem. Or jump to a certain time using the time line. But when doing the same using Play Music's Radio stations, you can't do any of that. Just go Next, upvote, and downvote.  Can you please add the missing functionality?

Hey everybody with the impending Prime day I was wondering if I should just pony up and get a few Echo's at a great price now with hopes it will in the future be able to control my SONOS system? If yes, mind you I have zero experience with Echo, how many would you need for 6 rooms? I assume 6. Any help would be appreciated.

I recently moved in with my girlfriend and we're merging our Sonos systems (but them for her for Christmas). She had her two play 1s at 7.3. My many speakers were at 7.2. Plug it all in, and the system tries to update my 7.2 speakers. Update failed with error 30, so I tried one at a time, no luck. Tried hard wiring to router, restarting router and cable modem, tried a couple of different speakers, hard reset (holding the play button down while plugging it in), none of these things worked. Any other suggestions? Thank you!

I normally use the Harmony Elite to run my entertainment center. My wife prefers the amazon Fire TV remote for voice control. There is a new a new "Sideclick" available from Amazon that snaps on to the Fire TV remote and adds IR volume and source capability to the remote. Will I be able to use the IR Sideclick to control the TV volume and also the Harmony remote when not using the Sideclick? Thanks in advance. gmoo
