Amazon Alexa and Sonos

Having continuing problems with Alexa and the Sonos one speakers - one speaker has cut out completely and refusing to respond. The other is occasionally working but mostly not- I’ve tried rebooting numerous times to no avail - the software is rubbish - a lot of money for it to go wrong - I’m considering returning them and going back to old fashioned Bluetooth connection unless anyone has any tips?

I do not understand something. I have sonos one. I have amazon in Poland, paid version. music is played back by the applications on your phone and computer. I have combined applications with sonos - but I can not play because it does not work in my location !!! ---- yyyy .... I do not understand

When I select a radio station (Spirit FM Sussex) from the Sonos App it plays fine. However, when I ask Alexa to play “Spirit FM” it confirms the command by nothing plays. Checking the Sonos app, it reports that the “Format is unsupported”. Any ideas?

Can I make a Bluetooth speaker that is connected to an Echo Dot play together with my two Sonos Ones and Sonos Connect? If so, what is the set up method?

Cannot play Spotify

I have alexa echo dot and a sonos setup of several play 5s, a play 3 and a play 1. All of these speakers are already linked to my sonos account. I have sonos and alexa app on my mobile and am trying to add the sonos skill, but keep on getting an error as follows: "add your sonos speakers to your account: you need to link speakers to [email] before you can add this skill...". It goes on. I have checked via desktop that the speakers are added, i have told it i've fixed the issue. I have tried uninstalling and rebooting everything and reinstalling it again. no joy It used to work a week or two back and i'm frustrated A) that alexa seems to have forgotten the previously working sonos skill and 😎 I can't enable it again Any solutions much appreciated from anyone who has experienced the same issue and solved it

I have the Play One with Alexa which works amazing. I also have an Echo Dot in another room that works beautifully with my Sonos system. The only slightly annoying thing is that I have to tell my Echo Dot "Play Rock in the Living room". If I don't specifically say "in the living room" the dot plays the music (which is technically correct). Does anyone know if there is a way to change the default player/speaker so that I no longer have to specifically say the location of the speakers I want to use? In other words I would just say "Play Rock" and my Sonos speakers would kick on. I can't seem to find anything specific to this question while searching the Alexa forums.

When using Sonos with Alexa Echo and streaming music service (Pandora and Amazon Music), playback stops after one song. Very frustrating. I have tried disabling the skill and re-enabling to no avail. Help

Hi, I have an older Samsung TV which has Anynet+ and CEC but doesn't have a HDMI ARC port. I can see that there are some HDMI -> HDMI ARC converters, has anyone tried this? Ideally I want to be able to use the voice control features of the beam, any thoughts would be appreciated? Thank you!!!

When asking Alexa on my Spotify One’s I always get the reply: ”Please link a Spotify Premium account...”. My premium account have been linked and works perfectly thru Sonos. Spotify is selected as default music service in the Alexa app. Use UK location on both Alexa app and Sonos app. Spotify account is however Swedish. Any idea or fix to this problem?

Hi I recently got a Sonos one and Alexa worked fine to begin with. I recently added 2x play 5’s (gen 2) as a pair. All 3 speakers are in the same large room, so I set up pair of play 5’s as one room and Sonos one as another and grouped them. I also then added a boost. Since doing this Alexa will answe questions like what’s the weather (so I know connected to WiFi), but when you say play “xyz” it says it will but nothing. I’ve reset the Sonos one and have it set up as a separate room again (ungrounded), but still no joy. I’m sure it’s something silly, please help Thanks!

None of my Ones are working with Alexa today. They can stream using the Sonos app. Other Echo devices are working with Alexa. Anyone else having this?

Hi guys. I have a playbar and two Alexa enabled Sonos ones setup as a surround system in the lounge. I now also have another Alexa enabled One in the kitchen. When I’m playing music in the lounge I can ask Alexa to play in the kitchen, but it stops playing in the lounge. How do I get it to play in the kitchen as well as the lounge? Meaning play everywhere instead of transferring from one to the other

I've seen various posts that try to piece together how to get rid of the "ducking" feature. We have 5 rooms setup with SONOS. We were an early adopter to SONOS and none of ours have the Alexa App built in. For XMAS we got our daughter the Kids Echo Dot. It is in her room that does not have a SONOS speaker. How do we disable ducking on our SONOS rooms? Our music "ducks" no less than 10 times an hour. Thanks

I have a Play 1 in the kitchen and it works fine with our Echo. My kids both have Echo Dots in their rooms and I have noticed that when one of my kids is playing music on the Dot in their room, when they are requesting something from Alexa on the Dot, the Play 1 speaker volume goes very quiet. Note - they are not playing the music on the Play 1, the scenario is I am usually listening to the radio and they are listening to their rubbish music on the dot! This is basically what happens on the Echo devices when they are playing music and you interrupt with the "Alexa", they mute to listen to what you are saying. It's not really a serious issue, but it is annoying, especially as my kids love hopping through tracks on playlists! Is there a solution for this problem or is it just something I need to live with?

A little bit of background.. I have speakers in different rooms, and have set them up to reflect this. We have an echo dot in the living room, which is connected via the Sonos skill. I often listen to music in my study while the kids are in the living room. I began to notice the volume on my speakers started to occasionally dim for no seemingly reason, then would go back to normal a few seconds later. Typically it was worse when the kids were home. After a lot of troubleshooting, I figured out that Alexa isn't Sonos room aware. This means whenever she is activated (be it on purpose or by accident), she will dim the music on ALL speakers in the house to allow you to hear her. I have logged a call with Sonos support, who have requested I post on the community forum to explain the problem I've found, while they pass it onto their development team. I am using 4 Sonos One in different rooms of my appartment and everything worked flawlessly with Alexa until a few weeks ago. I used to be able to tell Alexa to "play radio in the kitchen" and it would start playing my last tune-in station in the kitchen AND all the rooms in the same group. When I use the same command now, Alexa ungroups all my Sonos players and starts playing that radio station only in the kitchen. After doing some reading on how to resolve the issue, I created a group within the Alexa app, which I called "Sonos" and tried the command "play radio on Sonos". This does actually prompt her to play radio on all 4 speakers, but she first asks me "what would you like to hear?". No matter what I answer, she always just seems to pick an arbitrary radio station from tune-in and start playing that one. I must have tried dozens of times, but there is no way she'd start playing the one tune-in station I want her to play on my 4 speakers... which has never been a problem before

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me here... cause I've been losing my mind with this issue ever since I got my Beam a couple months back. Background information... I own a 40 inch Samsung UHD 4K Smart TV, a Sonos Beam, and an Amazon Fire TV 4K stick. I'm trying to create as much of a remote free experience as possible. From my understanding, and my experience, just simply having a Sonos Beam will only allow you to adjust the volume and turn your TV on/off using Alexa (when it comes to TV controlling, not music). So from here I did some research and found out that purchasing an Amazon Fire TV 4K stick will bridge this gap into a more remote free experience... I'm struggling. Things I have completed word for word like a strict baker... - Connected my Sonos Beam with my Samsung TV (audio output is through Beam), used ARC HDMI - Enabled Amazon Alexa under Voice Settings in Sonos App. Signed in with my Amazon account - Added Sonos as a Smart Skill (and enabled) on Alexa

Total Sonos newbie: I bought the Beam on a whim, and only getting into it now. Connected to LG TV via HDMI ARC. Scenario: I’ve been watching TV, but decide to listen to music. I switch off the TV, and tell Alexa to play [band] on Sonos. It says “playing [band] on Sonos”, but there’s no sound. If I use the app to go to Browse>Spotify, I can initiate music perfectly fine (although worth noting it doesn’t start outputting music requested via Alexa as above). So I suppose it’s a question about switching from the TV output to music on the beam. Does it not have the ability to switch to play music once the TV has turned off (which I understand also turns the Beam off via ARC), without the manual change on the app? If so, I think that’s a bit rubbish. It means that my wife can’t play music without me being with her to make the manual switch (unless, presumably, she also downloads the app and uses my log in??).

I just recently purchased the Beam because of the Alexa integration. All my other Echo devices support the Apple Music skill, but the Sonos Beam seems to not support this. I know this is a very new skill, but I am curious if this is going to be added in a future update?

I have 2 Amazon echos and just picked up a Sonos player 1 pair of speakers from Costco. I have one of my echos paired with my receiver, which is a Denon. I have an “everywhere” group in m the Alexa app and can play music through both echos in different rooms. I can’t get the Sonos speakers to play with both echos. Is this not possible? Thanks for any help you guys can provide. I searched around but couldn’t find an article or thread about this type of configuration. I can get the Sonos to play with a specific “family room” group with one of the echos.

Hi, Since we are now able to put an echo device and a Sonos speaker into a group in the Alexa app and don’t need to add „... in the living room“ or so at the end of the play command: why are still all the speakers being ducked? The system knows which speaker I am talking to and which Sonos in connected. I don’t get it! Thanks for shedding some light onto this! M.

After the farce of getting this setup and the complete lack of help or knowledge from anyone in Sonos, I'm stuck with this crappy kit now. I live in Mexico. I purchased the Sonos here in Mexico. When I purchased it my Amazon account was UK based. Sonos worked fine with this. I changed my country to Mexico in my Sonos Profile and it stopped working altogether. After spending ages trying to sort it out, with no help whatsoever, from Sonos, I discovered that the country is used to determine what services are available. At this time, Amazon did not have their music service in Mexico. I switched the Sonos profile back to the UK and it worked again. My Amazon Unlimited Music subscription expired at the end of November. By this time Amazon had launched the service in Mexico, so since I live here, I purchased it here (approx. £50 annually compared to £150 in the UK). To do this, I had to change my Amazon account to be an Amazon.com.mx account. This worked fine with all my Alexa devices.
