Advanced setups

I'd like to add my PC (WMP) as a zone player so I can "Link Zone" with my PC and have that play what's playing on the other controllers. Does anybody have any idea if this has already been done, or if there are resources that would allow me to do it? 🆒

Hi, Have been noticing synchronization issues and dropouts between my various rooms when playing the same content everywhere. I have 5 stereo pairs in different rooms and 2 full 5.1 setups. Two of the stereo pairs were just added and that is when I started noticing these issues. It’s only happening when playing the same content in many rooms at once (seems like 4 or more is the threashold). I have a pretty robust Ubiquiti WI-FI system setup with 5 APs and great coverage. Figured it should be able to handle the load, but maybe not? Is this what the Boost is for?? Would it help? Thanks in advance!! Joe

I would just like to play the music from my media server over my Sonos speakers without having to have a connection to the internet. Is that such a hard thing to ask Sonos to provide ?

Hello community, This question probably has been asked before, but I can't seem to find it on the forums: Currently I own a sonos Playbar and Sub. I'm thinking about expanding it to a 5.1 surround setup with 2 play one's. However, I also want to listen to music every now and then with a play one in another room. I'm not planning on buying 3 of them, but I want to move a single play one between rooms. Is it easy to move one of the play one's to the study room and just listen to the music on that speaker? Is it also easy to move the speaker back to the living room whenever I want to watch a movie, or does it require setting up the room every single time? Thanks in advance for the answers!

My Sonos works terribly in my home. There’s got to be a way. Long story long. I’m not a techie. I barely function in 2018. The facts: I have a large stone house built in 1885 with 3 floors and horse hair plaster walls. Every floor has lots of rooms - no open concepts anywhere. I have received a total of 3x Sonos Play1 speakers as gifts over the last 3 years. My Sonos is so frustrating and I’d rather not even use it. I have major trouble connecting and controlling the music outside of 1 specific room - kitchen - where there is 1 of the 3 speakers and a router extender. I have a large Kitchen/Cafe area in my house that's really all one room. I have three Sonos One's spread throughout that long area. Forcing me to create a "Kitchen" with a stereo pair and a "Kitchen 2" with the third (middle) speaker is ridiculous. I never want to play 1 or 2 of them without playing all 3. They're all one room. Grouping is great when you're talking about different areas, but it is a poor substitute for recognizing that people might want/need more than just two speakers in a room. My last house was just as bad, as it had a massive "great room" that included kitchen, cafe, living, and dining areas into one large room. Only the bedrooms and bathrooms were their own separate walled areas. Again, if I'm going to play speakers in a room I'd rather just assign them all to the same room and have them always play together. Why is this so hard to understand? Doesn't Sonos WANT to sell more than two speakers per room, if the customer's rooms are that large? Or do

Hello Community, I have a question on the new Sonos Amp. I have three sets of B&W speakers; 2 in-ceiling (CCM80) and 1 outdoor (WM6). They're all rated to handle up to 130W at 8ohms. They're connected to a single home run with each having their own Niles volume control (VCS100K) in their respective rooms. I would like just to have one amp since I have impedance matching volume controls for each speaker already in place. Here are my three scenarios: Scenario 1. If I run three 8ohm speakers on one channel with a 2x multiplier for the VCs, the total impedance is 5.3. I calculated the power output for 5.3ohms to be 188W. Assuming that calculation is correct, that's 63W/channel. That's really not too bad, but I'm looking to get more out of this amp since it's rated at 125W at 8ohms. This is the most likely and safest scenario. Scenario 2. If I adjust the Sonos Amp max volume to be around 80-90%, do I need to set the VC switch multiplier to 2x for

G'day Sonos Fans. Please bare with me whilst I explain my scenario. ISP Router: 192.168.1.254 (static/DHCP) Wireless Bridge (Asus): 192.168.1.253 (static) 24 Port POE Switch (Dummy) 14 other Devices connected. Recently added sonos beam + sub, no issues worked flawlessly. Yesterday I added a Sonos Amp (x2) and Sonos Boost; It worked for a couple of hours; and at about the 4 hour mark my internet had shut off and ever since I've been playing with gremlins. I originally had the configuration as follows: ISP Router > Switch > Boost > AMP. After it broke I changed the AMP and BOOST to connect directly to the switch - I have not tried a different ethernet cable. I changed the Wireless Bridge to Auto channel and Sonos Boost to Channel 6 - No change in issue. Internally wireless connects, though cannot get to Google for example - sonos music unavailable etc.

We have been long time users of Sonos equipment and it has worked flawlessly behind all of our previous routers at our locations. We have recently implemented Meraki MX90 and MX80 firewalls/routers at our main location and branch locations. After doing so we are no longer able to use the Sonos equipment. I can see the device on the network but can not connect to it and it doesn't connect out to the internet. I have enabled all the required ports, have whitelisted the device in the Meraki, and we still get nothing. Surely in all the Sonos world someone has come across a Meraki frontend...Any help would be appreciated.

I've done a fair bit of research on this, but haven't been able to find a clear solution, yet. My setup is as follows: I've got a Ligawo HDMI Matrix 4x2, to which everything is plugged into (Apple TV, PS4, HDMI for laptop) - the video output is a Samsung Smart TV and an Epson Projector. For audio, the PS4 (and HDMI for laptop) are connected directly to my amplifier, and since Apple TV only has an HDMI output the sound comes directly from the TV. I've also got a record player plugged directly into the amplifier. My challenge is as follows: I want to get rid of all old speakers & amplifier and be able to connect a Play: 5 to the entire setup. If that works out I would flesh out the setup with a few One's throughout the home. I understand that the only way to connect the record player is directly via the audio jack at the back of the Play: 5 - so that takes care of that port. How do I connect the Play: 5 to the rest? Is it even possible? I also don't

Hi, I'm a member of parent committee in my kids' school. The direction plans to invest in a audio diffusion system. They received offers from companies but, according to me, too limited. It's a simple multi-diffusion system, wired with one amp. The intended use is : - background music - personal announcement - classes communication As the whole school is covered by a wifi network. My music library is served from my Synology NAS. Historically, this meant that I had to enable SMBv1 on my NAS in order for my Sonos speakers to find my music folder and index it. However, I saw that Sonos v8.6 includes the ability for "the Sonos app for Windows [to] set up a music share using HTTP for local file sharing instead of the now-deprecated SMBv1 protocol." https://en.community.sonos.com/announcements-228985/sonos-8-6-app-improvements-and-new-windows-library-sharing-6808278 Since Sonos still doesn't support SMBv2+ file sharing, I would like to use HTTP(S) to share music from my Synology NAS to my Sonos speakers. Logically, a Synology HTTPS file share should look no different to a Sonos player than a Windows HTTPS file share. However, I don't seem able to configure this properly. Is this possible? If so, could someone provide more detailed instructions?

So I have been looking at Sonos for a while and I've listened to a load of their speakers in shops and in friends houses etc. My intention was to buy 1x BEAM 4x ONE 1x SUB In the main room I wanted the BEAM, SUB and 2x ONE (the other ONE's would be throughout the house and I'd add to the system in due course) In the main room I wanted a 5.1 set up for TV and then presumed I'd be able to use the 2xONE speakers and SUB for music which I'd stream via airplay. After reading on here I gather that isn't possible, which is a shame to say the least! So my questions are: - Could I use the ONE's as a stereo pair with the SUB, but though the Sonos app rather than via airplay? (in which case I may as well just buy the Play 1's as I wont need the air play function, and I already have an Echo dot anyway) OR, if that still wont work, which is hugely annoying... - How l

Has anyone tried the following? If, on an IOS device using the Apple Music app, one chose in the IOS Airplay 2 menu to stream direct to a Sonos One which has previously had its frequency response curve set by Trueplay, would that Sonos One retain the Trueplay curve or would it play the audio 'flat'?

We've always been able to disable Wi-Fi (thank you bsteiner), but since v9.2 we can now disable it via the app. I hope this means Sonos is now officially supporting wired setups. Sonos generally has a buffer of c 83ms yet Playbar-surround Play 3 same-room pairings ("Surround") , are at only c 30ms. The buffer is obviously to deal with packet loss/sequencing, and multi-room WiFi audio is likely to suffer more from that than would same-room peer-to-peer Surround connections. I would think that mutliroom wired audio would suffer even less packet problems, and could live with an even smaller buffer. Obviously this would only be the case if allunits were hard wired. Does anyone know whether Sonos has implemented code which can detect a fully-wired system and reduce all buffer sizes accordingly? So I’m sorry if this has been posted but I searched and only found complaints that it didn’t work but I got it to work on accident so here you go... I managed to create multi-room audio by combining my SONOS speakers with Amazon Echo devices. Yes they play the same thing simultaneously & is voice activated. Although there is a SLIGHT delay with the Echo devices. I have an Echo Dot “Echo 1” AUX out to RCA in on SONOS:CONNECT. CONNECT optical out to a Sony 7.1 Receiver. Via Alexa app, I created a multi-room music group with “Echo 1” & the Echo in my kid’s playhouse “Echo 2” & I think I named it like Basement just to test it. Then I made sure “Line In” was on in Garage and grouped my Garage CONNECT with all other SONOS rooms. Walked into my garage & said “Alexa, play _____ in the Basement” BAM. Playing on all my SONOS & the kid’s Echo in playhouse. My in depth home

I think I may need to permanently disable the speaker drivers (!) in my Sonos One but am hoping someone has a better solution to the following problem: I have only one Sonos device, a Sonos One, which supports Airplay 2. I play music directly to it over Airplay2 from the Apple Music app running on an Iphone. I group my Sonos One to various other Play:1's and Play:3's around the house: the Sonos One is in that sense the 'injector' for the whole house. I want to be able to listen to music on, and only on, my Play:3's in the Living Room, so I group Living Room with the Sonos One, and mute the Sonos One. That works fine. The problem comes when I increase the volume using the Iphone's physical volume control. That increases the volume of the {Living Room + SonosOne} group, which unmutes the Sonos One. So I end up with music playing in two rooms rather than one. The only way I can think of around this is to hobble the Sonos One by cutting the wires to its drivers, so that it

The Top Blocked Domains on my LAN through my pi-hole with over 500% Hits more than next culprit. Is this the information they use to decide which features should be removed from the Desktop Apps?? After some further research it was found that the App on my Android device was by FAR the largest culprit. Looks like the Desktop Apps and all the speakers are chatty as well. I have DISABLED metrics in the controller. My Sonos system is operating fine on 8.4. No effects with msmetrics.ws.sonos.com Pi-holed. I'd be interested to wireshark it but I'm sure it is all encrypted.

Hi My Sonos System comprises of: 7 x Play 1 (Connected via WIFI) 1 x Play 5 (Connected via WIFI) 1 x Play 3 (Connected via WIFI) 1 x Playbar (Connected via Ethernet to managed Cisco Switch) 1 x Sub (Connected via WIFI) Network: Virgin Media is ISP, router is set in Modem Mode 1 x Netgear Orbi RBR50 Router (In router mode) 2 x Orbi Satellites as AP's Orbi router is internet link to LAN Cisco Managed switch. Hi all, my new sub arrived today, I have 2 S3's L and R and sub in my living room. I've adjusted my bass and treble in Eq menu which I'm guessing adjusts the bass and treble for the both my S3 and sub as a group, and it sounds ok. Then I discovered the bass adjustment in the advanced audio/Sub settings. It's currently set in the middle. Should I setup the sub bass level first then adjust the group bass and treble in the Eq menu after or visa versa? Or is the sub bass best left alone? I've completed the sound set up with my phone for sound calibration etc. Btw, I do like a punchy bass sound. Thanks in advance for your comments! Samzie

I would prefer to minimize the amount of broadband RF permeating my home. To further that goal, I have run ethernet cabling to every room. I've plugged all my Sonos devices into these ethernet ports, but don't see any way to disable the wireless signals. Is there any way to do so, or will the data always be broadcast via wireless, even when all the devices are plugged directly into Ethernet?

At my wit's end here. Currently owns dozen PLAY1 speakers, a PLAY5 and a subwoofer—the latter two both second gen. (Also recently purchased a SONOS Boost to help problem-solve.) Issues with these products used to be beyond minimal—but seems every SONOS-related app updates over the past year has worsened the overall experience, rendering the products absolutely useless. Issues I'm dealing with are comparable to many others on here who have invested thousands of dollars into this system, but still don't have viable answers.
