Setup: Older Sony TV w/o ARC, so I am using the HDMI-to-optical dongle provided in the beam package. To be clear: The TV speakers are “off” via its menu, so it is sending sound via an optical cable to the dongle provided in the Beam package. The sound is fine. Here’s the issue: the Directv controller remains paired with the TV. Although the volume doesn’t change on the tv (because the tv is sending it to the Beam) the TV still shows a volume bar (which is not correkated to the volume at all). The remote is sending IR signal to both the TV and the Beam. Question: can I unpair a Directv remote from the TV volume, so when I click Vol+/- the IR only is recognized by the Beam? I’d rather not see a volume bar on the TV (nothing in the menu to turn it off)
I have an 1800 sq ft optical space where I'm considering bypassing our existing in-ceiling (crappy tinny-sounding) speaker system with Sonos products (speakers themselves, not a Connect or Amp). My question is what products and how many should I get? Volume levels will be relatively low (quieter then normal speech, I'm guessing max volume will be in the 30-40 dB range at the very most). I'm leading towards multiple (perhaps) 4 Sonos One's for the main room vs. 2 Play:5's (I'm not interested in Play:3's at this time since it's a somewhat non-updated product at this point). What would be better from a sonic standpoint? I was also considering adding a sub for this large area, however would this just be a waste in this scenario? I will use other Sonos One's (or perhaps less expensive Play:1's) in other areas of the office where needed. I am a bit of an audiophile and cost of this small project is not a significant concern. I have a numerous Sonos products throughout my house
I have seen a few topics on this but i was wondering, are there any updates or new stands out that actually work with or are specifically made for the sonos one?
Hi I've been using the Sonos app for a while now, with no bother, today it's started running all of the time in the background. I don't seem to be able to kill it, re-starting the phone has no effect. I have a Google Pixel 1 running the latest version of android. I don't need or want it running all the time. How do I switch it off???
So I have just pre-ordered the new Sonos Beam to go with my 2 x Play 1 speakers. I just need to add a TV to the collection now and was wondering what are people's thoughts on what to look out for with regards to TV specifications in order to optimize integration within the system? Thoughts on TV brands most compatible with Sonos?
Hi all, here is my situation: 1. I have Pro-Ject Debut Carbon turntable connected to an Onyx TX-8160 and two wired speakers. 2. The Onyx receiver is output to a Sonos Connect. 3. I have a Playbar in the same room, and other Sonos throughout the house. I was considering swapping the Onyx with a pre-amp and getting 2 Play 5's that would connect line-in to my turntable, and simultaneously serve as rear's for my Playbar to get 5.1 sound when watching TV (assuming an added sub). I would ditch the wired speakers in this case. However - I was informed by Sonos customer service that the Play 5's could not simultaneously serve as line-in for the turntable and rears (which is insane!), so that idea is kind of shot. So now I am debating whether to ditch analog (receiver + wired) altogether - and instead feed the turntable (+ preamp) into my Connect exclusively, then have the 5.1 setup in that room as one of many rooms I could stream to from the turntable, but wouldn't have any analo
I'm trying to setup my Beam and two ones as surround sound. I've gone through most of the processes but every time I try to enable CEC I get a response on the app that it's not enabled. Sound is coming from the TV through all of the speakers. I have gone into the menu and turned on Audio Out and enabled Simplink. Not sure what to do next...
Controlling Sony tv with alexa
Hi all, I set up my beam earlier today and it generally works fine but does seem to have a recurring issue. It will often go silent then my TV displays "unmute" when the sound comes back on a few seconds later. It also then ungroups the other speakers in my system (I have unticked the option to ungroup when watching the TV) I have a Samsung TV and my beam is connected to a bridge grouped with a couple of play 1s in other rooms in my house. Until today, my system has been rock solid for at least the last 6 months. I've also have reserved ip addresses for them. Diagnostic is 774332081 if someone from Sonos could have a look? Cheers Jacob
Currently I have two Play:1 speakers stereo paired in my office. I want to be able to AirPlay from iTunes so I bought a new Sonos One which is AirPlay compatible. Any thoughts on how to beat arrange the three speakers? Should I replace one of the stereo paired Play:1 speakers with the Sonos One and take the Play:1 home or is there a configuration using 2 Play:1 speaker’s and a Sonos One that would improve the sound over just a stereo pair?
So I ordered a pro-ject essential iii and returned it on July 6. It is now July 19 and I do not have my refund. Sonos received my project and said a credit would be issued within 7 days. It’s now 9 days and 3 phones calls and no one knows why I’m not getting my refund this is totally unacceptable! They are holding my $382 hostage. I have a connect, a sub, playbar and two play ones so you could say I’m a good customer. They take your money when you make a purchase, but don’t issue refunds. I don’t think I can ever do business with Sonos again
Technique is not stabel yet. Streaming sonos one over airplay 2 with 2 sonos connect’s inthe same group does nit really gives a solid output stream. Without airplay 2 no probkems. When will we get the first update on this? Maybe sonos did anounce the airplay 2 feature a bit too early. Risking there good name in music streaming devices,
I recently bought a new TV , an LG OLED55C7P, and a playbase with two rear play 1 speakers. Everything works great with the TV's onboard Netflix, Amazon, and also my Xbox one. The problem is with my cable. I have optimum. When the Dolby setting is enabled on the cable box the lip sync is all over the place. When I switch the box audio setting off to "other" it becomes stereo instead of surround but the lip sync is fixed. Any suggestions? Cable company says it's the sonos but the lip sync is still an issue with the TVs internal speakers... I have tried the audio settings on the tv but I can't delay it enough. Also I'm a sound designer so I understand frame rate and all that fun stuff.
Hi everyone, I currently have a Sonos Playbar, 2 x Play 3's as Surround and a Sub. The sound quality is amazing for both TV and music. However, I'm now thinking about replacing the Playbar with a Beam. I've read the Beam does not have the same quality as the Playbar, but would the additional Play 3's and Sub make up for any loss? Would there be any difference at all? Has anyone replaced the Playbar with the Beam when they already have Surrounds/Subs? What was your verdict? Thanks Richard
Will i be able to play netflix with sonos play 1 using mobile phone?
I realize it's not weatherproof and wasn't supposed to be, however, it sure would be nice to have some sort of cover for the Sonos Play5. I have it on my patio next to the pool. It's under the awning and won't get rained on but it still would be good to have it protected a little when not in use. Form fitted vinyl cover would be perfect. Something that wont get blown off from the wind. You guys could slap your logo on it. Would there be any heat generation if covered?
I'm looking for a wireless speaker without power cable and with integrated battery, mainly for outdoor usage. In the past (August 2014) I have asked this question through Sonos technical support and they answered that Sonos planned to release a portable model with battery, expected launch in 2016. However, I still can't seem to find such a model in the available products. Anyone who has more information on this topic? Otherwise, I am obliged to purchase a product from competitors, who do have this in their product range. E.g. Bose SoundLink Revolve - https://www.bose.com/en_us/products/speakers/wireless_speakers/soundlink_revolve.html
I am curious if SONOS thought about how they expect the Playbar to be wall mounted with the wiring concealed. From the looks of it, and the optional wall bracket, they did not think to hard. :) Surely they are aware that if you wish to adhere to electrical codes, you cannot simply run the power cord through the wall. It needs to have an outlet behind the speaker. That is the main concern. And it applies to nearly all soundbars that are powered via high voltage. As a custom installer, I will find a way to do it. I have 2 ideas in mind and will post an update when I have figured it out. But manufacturers need to take some thought about how people are going to use their products and design them accordingly. Stay tuned for "how to mount your playbar, conceal the wiring, and keep it legal". 🙂
Good day, I have a very simple Sonos setup. Living room TV sound bar and 2 Sonos 3, kitchen a Sonos 5. I would like to have them grouped together most of the time and would like it to ‘default’ to this setup and remain until I decide to ungroup kitchen from living room. The system constantly ungroups and I have to regroup every time I switch on and also I have noticed when I switch from TV to music. Could you assist with this? Many thanks Steve
Connect digital output in fixed volume mode is not bit-perfect as discussed here. There is a simple limiter applied with a maximum gain decrease of just under 1dB. This cannot be defeated in fixed volume mode. However, in variable volume mode the maximum limiter gain becomes less as the volume slider is decreased from maximum. The limiting disappears completely after 13 taps on the slider. This is shown in this link. The associated volume decrease in the signal is shown here. It is interesting to note that as the volume slider is moved back from maximum, the rate of volume decrease becomes larger at the same 13 tap point. I haven't gone beyond 20 taps to see if there are further changes in volume sensitivity. What are the implications? Prior to version 6 of the software, fixed volume mode provided the cleanest audio path (bit-perfect), but this is now not the case. The cleanest audio path is now obtained by using variable output and setting the volume slider to 13 or more tap
When playing music from my iphone playlist the songs wont finish and they used to. I've done all the updates and it just gets worse. I have the new optium Altise so there is no way for me to get into the route like some of the other post say to.
Hi, i have recently bought a play 5 and love it. However i would love to get the stereo effecr. I was wondering if it is worth getting two play 1's to go with the play 5 all in my room. So the play 5 would be at the front, and then the two play 1's would be behind, making the stereo effect. Would this work? Im not sure how the grouping feature works in the sonos app.
So currently in my living room we have a Playbar, Sub, and 2 Play 1's all connected with a Bridge. I recently just purchased a Samsung 4K QLED TV for my basement and wanted to beef up the sound. I'm mainly looking to achieve a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound in my basement. What Sonos products should I purchase? I was thinking a Playbar, 2 (Front L & Front R) Play 5's, 2 (Back L & Back R) Ones, and a Sub. I found a good deal on some gently used Playbar and 2 Play: 5's that I might purchase as a bundle, then add the Sub and Play One's. Would these all be compatible with one another to accomplish 5.1 or 7.1? Thanks! Open to all suggestions.
I’m a little hesitant to share these observations, given that my previous contributions to this community consisted mainly of flip-flopping on the issue of a single Play 5 gen. 2 vs a stereo pair of Play 1s, but I thought this might be interesting to some here: Whilst there’s lots of discussion here regarding a stereo pair of gen. 2 Play 5s vs a pair of Play 1s with a sub, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a comparison between the Play 5 pair and a Play 1 pair without the assistance of the sub. Whilst I realise not many will be choosing between these two options, given the cost difference, I did happen to get the chance to compare these two set-ups directly yesterday: Set up as stereo pairs in the same room/location, both with Trueplay tuning applied. The main take-away from the comparison? To be honest, it was quite how amazingly good the Play 1s are relative to their tiny size and price. Of course, on the whole, the Play 5 pair was significantly better but the difference was smaller
I'm thinking about buying a stereo pair of either Play:3 or Play:5 & eventually adding a Sonos Sub. For best fidelity, is it necessary to go with the Play:5, or will the Play:3 suffice with the Sub handling the bass? Thanks, billiam
