Troubleshoot, tune and get the most out of your system

This isn’t really a question, but just wanted to post my random scenario in case it helps save some other Sonos users some time and frustration. I recently ran into an issue where my Arc surround set up was randomly muting, requiring me to back out of the app I was using while watching my TV and start it over again, only to have it happen again with no rhyme or reason to it. My full setup is an Arc, a Sub, two Play Ones, and a Connect with a turntable connected to it through a preamp. The other thing to note is that I have this exact same set up in my living room and in my basement. I have an LG C1 in the living room and a CX in the basement, both connected to Apple TV 4Ks.I assumed the random audio loss had to be because of a recent firmware update to either the Sonos speakers, TVs or Apple TV that was breaking the chain/handoff between systems, so I spent about a week investigating. Then I realized that I wasn’t looking at what the Sonos app was actually showing every time this happen
I have been struggling with my Sonos system (6 speakers - 1 stereo pair and 4 separates together with a Boost) for 2 years now and still do not have a reliable system without dropouts. I have places a couple of related questions here and spoken to Sonos tech service numerous times. My router feeds the primary node of the Tenda Mesh system by ethernet and I have managed to hard wire all of the speakers to other Tenda nodes. I have tested this with and without the Boost and with the WiFi turned on or off on all speakers, but still cannot get a reliable system free of dropoutsMy question is what is the best way to connect the system to the mesh and router and do I need the Boost? The network matrix shows the Boost to be doing little or nothing to stabilise the system and disconnecting the Boost seems to make little difference.I would be grateful for any help as, after 2 years I am pretty close to parting company with Sonos, as I want to listen to music, not constantly fiddle with the syste
Hi,I’m aware that you can listen to AM lossless via ATV but I’m wondering if you can also listen to lossless audio through line-in? I have my TV set up as beam with sub and surrounds but the majority of my music listening is via stereo paired play 5’s (considering whether to move sub to join them). I’d like to listen to AM lossless and wondering if iPhone connected to one of the play 5’s via line-in with ‘uncompressed’ selected in audio compression settings of Sonos app is the way to go? Thanks!
Is anybody else experiencing this. It only started happening yesterday and I have had my Beam for about a year. I have the Beam connected to my Samsung Smart TV using HDMI (ARC) and it happened when I started a YouTube video through the TV YouTube app. There was a loud buzzing noise over the audio. At first I thought it was a TV problem, but I switched to the TV speaker and it was fine. When I switched back to HDMI the problem persisted. I also unplugged the HDMI from the Beam and plugged it back in but the problem persisted. After rebooting the Beam (by removing and reinserting the power cord) the problem went away. However it has happened at least 3 times over the last 24 hours. It should be noted that if I stream to the beam over airplay while in this state the buzzing doesn’t happen. Also the Beam is in a surround setup with a Sub and 2 Sonos Ones. As it just started happening I wondered if it was due to a software update or something.
We have the Playbar and 2 Play 1 speakers set on the same room, but when we watch TV, the audio is terrible because the talking only comes from the playbar and the background sounds come out of the Play 1s. Watching sports is especially awful because all you hear is the crowd, not the commentary. How do you change it so the Play 1s play the speech and not just the background noise?
Sonos roam has been a nightmare for us as a custom installer. I chronic issue with not showing up in the app. This device has cost me hundreds of dollars in service calls to our clients. the device is used and plugged in with out ever being removed from the room. And it constantly falls off the app.Frustrating is a nice way to put it. PITA is better. I have this same set up in my own home and have had nothing but problems exactly as my customers have with it falling off the app. We have done the router reset so many times and yes it comes back with in a few days it’s gone again. Sonos seems to have gone down hill since going Public. We are over this product. I will not let customers purchase it with any support from us any longer because of these issues.
Hi there,Longstanding Sonos user having purchased his first ZP90 way back in 2010 ending up shortly thereafter with 3 of them in total before adding what was then called the S5, followed by Play 3, Play 1 and since adding a Move and just last week purchasing a Roam for use mainly as a portable speaker outside of the house.I do recall being disappointed over the S1/S2 split and furore that surrounded it but I have mostly been satisfied with my Sonos despite losing some features over the years. My system is obviously held at S1 level as it would cost in excess of £2,300 to upgrade to S2 and as I don’t have that kind of disposable income these days I have no option but to forego any new features and hold my system as is.Annoying then that the S1 app keeps throwing up a banner at the top of the screen telling me the Sonos S2 app is now available and asking if I want to check compatibility. I’ve lost count of the number ot times I have declined but still the banner pops up - is there any way
I currently have several wired speakers (with wireless disabled) along with a Boost providing SonosNet to my remaining wireless speakers.I’ve thought of changing from SonosNet to my own WiFi and have a few questions: Will this create network storms having the hardwired and wireless (on my own WiFi instead of SonosNet) because they’re on the same network? I’m assuming no, but wanted to make double sure. How much traffic goes through uncompressed audio to the speakers? I’m wondering if having 5-10 speakers on my home WiFi will impact my throughput for other wireless devices (phones, laptops, etc.).Thanks!
Had to dump several ipad 2 mini's on Friday as the old sonos s2 app no longer works and the new s2 app requires ios 14. Was this really necessary? Should be fines for this behaviour.
Hello,Need some help and guidance before mounting TV and sonos ARC. I have 77” TV with 10 ft ceiling. TV hight will be 40”. Location is above fire place. The ceiling clearance from top of tv screen is 24 inches. Viewing distance about 12 feet. So the question is, can I mount ARC above TV and still get best sound effects or am I going to miss out some ATMOS sound effects? Thanks in advance!!
Hi!I own a Roam (SL) and love it - although I have come across two frustrating issues:I’ve found that if the Roam is connected via bluetooth to device A, and device B attempts to connect, the Roam disconnects from device A. When entering bluetooth pairing mode, the Roam will connect to any available paired devices, making it tricky to pair new devices.Elaboration on (1):Since I use it with both my phone and PC, this happens a lot when I’m listening to something with my phone, then goes to turn on the PC. The PC attempts to connect via bluetooth, as they are paired, the Roam drops the connection to my phone, which then requires me to reconnect and resume playback. This issue is quite easily reproduced by pairing two devices, connecting with one, then attempting to connect with another. In my opinion, the Roam should refuse bluetooth connection requests when another device is connected. Elaboration on (2):An issue with my PC sometimes requires me to remove and re-pair bluetooth speakers -
Hi, we have some problems connecting our Sonos move with the application. They are not able to connect together even if you are really closed to the wi-fi…Someone experienced it too?!
I just added Google Assistant to my Sonos and try to play SirusXM through it. The speaker says SiriusXM isn’t supported on this device.I can play SiriusXM on my Sonos through the Sonos app, but it refuses to play when I say “Hey Google play channel 23 from SiriusXM”…. it’ll say “Alright, playing Grateful Dead from SiriusXM… Sorry, it looks like SiriusXM isn’t currently supported on the music room”Some Google searching has yielded links to this Sonos Community forums where there is a staff member named “James L.” says the followingSiriusXM is not available via Google Assistant on Sonos as a supported service at this time. I don’t believe there would be a sufficient workaround to avoid this limitation.I can certainly pass on the comments that you’d like to see this service be a part of Google Assistant to our teams for consideration. It would be great if this information was published so I wouldn’t waste time trying to get something to work which is not supported. A matrix would be goo
Pretty much as title says
Grazie per l’aiutoAndreaEdit, translate to english:Good morning everyoneI connected my new SONOS Beam Gen.2 to the LG 55” OLED TV. Hi,I’m having issues with my sonossystem for the past 3 years. Me and the support team really tried everything with my managed switches and al speakers are wired (6 of them) but we couldn’t solve it.To try something diferent, I bought a Sonos Boost yesterday and unpluged all the wired speakers. But all my speakers are still connecting to the wifi, instead of the boost. How can I force my speakers to connect to the boost? Thanks in advance!Thomas

Hi All , My QNAP just updated and broke Sonos …. Turns out the Update changes SMB settings in QNAP to Minimum SMB2 Solution…. >Control Panel > Network & File Services > win/Mac/NFS/WebDAV > Advanced Options .. change lowest SMB version to SMB 1 … click apply … hope this helps someone else
First of all, thanks for the help that I received on here the other day. Really appreciated it. Also, a big hats-off to SONOS help desk the other day who resolved my biggest issue. Now, here is a thought; I have my old Play 5 working through the S1 app, and the rest of my system going through the S2 app. I have a turntable that I use RCA cables to go into my Connect (which is S2 compatible). Now I used to use this to play through the house including my Play 5 on the original S1 app until I upgraded to S2 due to now having a Roam SL. To now make my turntable play through the house, I have to Bluetooth it to the Roam and play through the house. Not the end of the World at all, but it renders the 5 all but redundant. But I’d quite like to keep using my 5 as perhaps a line-in speaker for the turntable. So I thought I’d buy a cable that was the RCA to 3.5mm type and put it through the output of the Connect and then into the back of the 5 as a line-in. But this hasn’t worked. Do you t
Recently purchased a Nest Doorbell (Battery)One pitfall is not hearing a doorbell ring when someone is at the front door and the push notifications have proved to be unreliable and late notices. Would love to connect one of my Sonos products to the doorbell to have the ring come through the speakers. Is this possible?
sub gen 3 getting disconnected from wi fi and am tied of resetting the sub. need some advise…
Hello, I've had this problem pretty much since I bought it 3 months ago. Every 4 or 5 days, the speaker "dies" - not visible in the app or Spotify devices list - the play button on the speaker triggers the red light to flash. I've so far lived with this issue by unplugging the power, waiting a few seconds and plugging it back in - after which it operates fine again...for another 4 or 5 days. It is connected via ethernet and I have no other Sonos devices. It would be nice not to have to do this...
I discovered that the sound is way better this way than when playing music through Sonos or Apple Music app on my iPhone. But I’m having an issue. After a while some albums stop playing through Sonos Ones and play through Arc/Sub only. In other words surround sound is being dropped for some reason. After restarting Apple Music app everything is back to normal, but the issue is back after listening to a couple of albums.I’m having Atmos enabled. All devices have the latest firmware updates.Any ideas what the issue might be?
Equipment: 1 Boost 12 Sonos One Speakers Formerly 1 Google wifi puck, now replaced with 3 Eero 6+ pucks (same problem though) Approximately 2,000 sqft mostly open space. For years I have struggled with Spotify issues (unreliable, speakers and volume dropping out, “can’t connect to Spotify” messages, skipping tracks etc). However, Pandora works 90% more reliably. Sonos tech help solution was to connect one or more speakers to wifi pucks (not from modem, just ethernet wire from puck to speaker). I purchased the Eero 6+ mesh system due to each puck having it’s own Ethernet port. However, I have since learned Eero says NOT to connect the sonos speakers to pucks as it will degrade performance. Questions:Is it unique to Eero products that I “shouldn’t” wire directly to speakers? Is there a brand/model that is recommended? Currently all of my 13 sonos products are connecting to the puck that is hardwired to my boost and modem, therefore making my other 2 pucks virtually obsolete.
My situation:I bought a Roam to replace my Echo Dot (2nd gen) & Oontz Angle 3 setup. 1st problem: Alexa doesn’t work on Sonos in my country. This incredibly pissed me off, as that’s why I bought it. Alexa is mentioned on every add for the Roam in the Czech Republic, and nowhere (other than this group) is it mentioned that it doesn’t work. It turns out that Sonos knows this, but doesn’t bother to tell prospective customers. So now I trust Sonos about as much as a used car salesman.2nd problem: The speaker sounds amazing, so I decide to just pair it with my Echo dot. It works fine at first, but after a day or two, music starts skipping. After deleting the dormant bluetooth pairings on the Echo dot, this was fixed.3rd problem: The Roam randomly drops the BT connection. (I have them almost next to each other). So now I have to constantly go into the app to reconnect them. Side note: 2 years with the Oontz, and probably did that three times total.4th problem: I’m getting fed up with my
