I currently have my TV playing through the line in to the left hand speaker in a play 5 stereo pair. I have not been able to successfully troubleshoot the issues I am experiencing with drop out on the right hand speaker. Initially I had the TV playing through a play base, via optical input. I subsequently bought the 2 play 5s and grouped them with the playbase. I then realised that they provided better sound than the play base so the playbase was moved upstairs and I used the line in input on the left play 5. As soon as I did this I experienced intermittent drop out on the right hand speaker. I have connected the lift hand speaker via ethernet cable to see if that fixed the issue. Unsuccessful. I restarted every sonos item in the house, left play 5,right play 5, connect amp, and play base. This appeared to work for a short time but the problem has returned. I am pursuing a 5.1 surround sound set-up for my medium-sized game room. I plan to get a Beam and Sub as well as an Amp to power two in-wall rear speakers. I know that the Beam can output front left and front right in addition to center; however, I am curious if it is possible to 'boost' the front sound by getting two One speakers for front left and front right while also using the Beam. I understand that the Playbar may be a better option for front sound but I like the look of the Beam better and want the HDMI ARC functionality found in the Beam. I simply ask if it is possible to set up my front sound with a Beam and two One speakers (and still have it sound as it should), not whether it is practical or what others would do.

My house has multiple sets of hardwired passive speakers in the ceiling. One of those sets is over the sofa and is intended to serve as rear speakers in a 5.1 system as well as music speakers. Another set is a few feet away in the kitchen - these are only for music. The kitchen and living area are all one room. My current setup is a Yamaha 7.1 system with 2 zone output and a phono preamp built-in, plus a 1970s era Technics 1200 record player. I am using this to drive 2 Polk floorstanding speakers and a center channel, plus a wired sub. I was also using this to drive the rear surrounds and the zone 2 for the kitchen speakers. But it's never sounded great and it's fairly complex and takes up a lot of space. I recently picked up a couple of connect: amps and am using those to drive the rear speakers and the kitchen speakers. I'm looking at different audio codecs for a media file download and would like to know which one is best for the Sonos system t get the best sound quality out of it. Options I've seen are DD+, AC3, AAC, MP3 etc. Would I be correct in think DD+ Dolby Digital Plus would be the best one?

Hi all, there are a lot of projects to controll sonos devices from linux devices (personally I like a lot Noson http://janbar.github.io/noson-app/) but I would like to know if there is a way to stream the audio of a linux pc to a Sonos device? thanks all Leo

We have Sonos set up in a restaurant which closes at 21:00 and the agreement with the neighbours is that "noise" will be minimal after that time. Is there some way to block access or music playing to the Sonos system between specific hours (say 21:00 to 08:00)? Is there some way to at least make access to the system password-protected between specific hours? Many thanks for your assistance, suggestions and ideas.

Hello, first time here and looking for some advice. Like to think I’m quite techy but new to Sonos. Current setup: Play 5 v2 connected to tv via 3.5mm aux cable as tv speaker 2 x Play 1s in stereo pair in same room 2 x Play 1s in stereo pair in bedroom 1 x Play 1 in kitchen Ordinarily, the Play 5 and stereo Play 1s are in a group. The kitchen is added to this group when I’m cooking. All are connected to Apple AirPort Extreme via Wi-fi which is connected to sky hub. Problem: While watching tv the Play 1s periodically drop out which means the audio is just coming out of the Play 5. I’ve tried moving round the sonos to eliminate a faulty sonos but the issue persists. It also affects the sonos in the kitchen. When audio compression is on compressed, there is no drop out but the tv and audio are very out of sync. On automatic or uncompressed the issue is there and persists. On a side note, they work fine when streaming from amazon music or Spotify. I’ve tried looki

I'm running two Amps with an iphone app and windows desk top control. All good until Virgin replaced router last week, now when both amps are connected via ethernet cables causes complete crash of home network and loss of internet, unplug one and it all comes back. I uninstalled the desk top app and reinstalled but all I get is the Sonos logo on the screen and nothing else. Any ideas ?

I have recently added an eero Pro Wifi System to my network to improve my wifi performance and replace my ISP router. Unfortunately, there are some Spanning Tree path cost issues between my switch, eero and Sonos devices that I can not resolve. My existing network topology consists of a single core switch with a link to the internet router and multiple links to access switches which are distributed across the rooms in my house. Devices that can be are all wired to these access switches. Some of these wired devices are Sonos Zone Players. Sonos supports its own wireless mesh system so that owners only have to wire in one such device and all the others will be reached wirelessly through that one. However, I have wired all but one of my Sonos devices because wiring is faster and more reliable than wireless. Hey All, I am operating 5 or so Play 3's across a 10k sqft warehouse. We have one Play3 plugged directly into our Eero network and have gotten better performance doing that, but are still having some speakers drop off. My question is: Do we need a boost? Two boosts? How many boosts would you suggest?

recently changed internet service. While reentering new service I put in an incorrect password. Now i can never get service. There doesnt appear to be a way to reset the password as the account has never been set up.

Greetings, I recently picked up a mint Sonos bundle, ZP100, bridge unit & controller for $35 at a salvation army surplus store. YES! What a greet deal your thinking, after testing at home, the only thing wrong with it is that left speaker terminal post was snapped off. Every thing else is working flawlessly. I decided to start a thread on doing general repairs on your SONOS equipment. Hence, currently I am searching online for original SONOS speaker terminals and have found that there is very little replacement vendors out there. But, if anyone out there who might know of a good resource, please post those links here and I'm sure this in hand is common and will help the next person. :)) Cheers! Futura2020

I have a Sonos Connect connected via Cat-5e to a Netgear GS748T switch, which also my computer I use to run the sonos controller software off of is connected to via Cat-5e. Firewalls is set to whitelist all Sonos traffic however randomly but often enough to have me write this the controller software will disconnect from the Connect than it states "unable to locate a connect". I can only reconnect it once I reboot both the computer and the Connect. This is really causing an issue. Im a Sys Admin by trade but I cant see any issues from networking side or the computer side.

Hi, I have been running a Sonos 5 for a few years now and it works mostly good. But sometimes, the app does not find the Play5 speaker and it mostly happens at parties when it's most "critical" that it works. I have been searching for a detailed description on the networking that Sonos is using, but haven't been able to find it. I'm a network and security engineer and have been working with networks for 25 years. At work, I do enterprise networking, security and routing/firewalling/load balancing. I would like to understand what network topology Sonos is using for the system to be able to debug the system when it doesn't work for me. Is it available ?

Is there a way for multiple poeple in the household to be adding songs to the same queue? For Example: Adam is playing music from his Iphone/Sonos Player using his spotify acount and Bob and Charles want to add thier own songs to the current queue on the Sonos Player from thier phones using thier personal Spotify Accounts. Is there a way to do this?

Hi all, Been delving into the 'Matrix' to find a cause for the sporadic dropouts we sometimes have here. Circa 19 devices in the matrix and each showing as tertiary (everything shows as tertiary) which I believe means wireless when we have 4 devices wired (including a boost) Devices include a mix of ZP120, ZP100, Play 1, SONOS One, Play 3, Play 5 Gen 2 There's no 'Root' device showing in the matrix, I assume there should be? I've just tried to change the zone wired into my router/modem to 'Root' via advconfig.htm followed by a reboot. In fact tried several times with no joy. Is the lack of a root my issue? House renovations are currently on hold, which is a shame as I was going to run cabling around the house. It would be good to limit the dropouts until then though. Sonos not work on shared / public internet. We know it doesn't...but here's why. Client Isolation. Most often Wireless Isolation, sometimes called Client or AP Isolation, is a setting on a wireless router. When this setting is enabled it prevents a device that is connected to the network by a wireless connection from accessing resources that are connected to the network by a wired connection. This means your neighbor can't see your Sonos either. Client Isolation is the only way you have any sort of security on a network you do not control. But what about you? In order for Sonos to work for you, you must create your own network. Currently other than Sonos Bridge, there isn't a Sonos-branded solution for this. If you cannot access your internet's router - Bridge is useless anyway. However, I've tested (with numerous Sonos hardware configurations and networks) two different pieces of hardware available on Amazon. One is the TL-WR802N, and TL-WR902AC, both manufactured by TP-Link. T

I have bought two Sonos 5 and believed I could set up these with my playbar and the two other sonos1 i use for back speakers. Is this not possible? I think I read somewhere that this should be possible.

I have made some major improvements to the simple HTTP API that I've built, and it now also comes with a pre-composed raspberry pi image that runs from a RAM-drive (based on AlpineLinux) for even simpler installation. Troubleshooting Subnets and Players: Summary: Recently, I had two (2) players drop off the network: one P1 and one P3. The P1 returned after 2+ hours all by itself and updated. The P3 did not, this is her story. I won't TL;DR you here, suffice it to say I tried the listed options below per-typical when speakers drop off and these steps did not work due to other issues I call out below. Enough is written on them in Sonos Community and maybe other forums to aide you with questions and exacting order of operation for these items: ( Listed in order of trial: ) Sonos Controller > Settings > Add Player > re-add the lost player -- wait ~3-10 minutes for speaker to re-appear; Unplug - wait 30s (at LEAST 10s) -- replug - wait ~3-10 minutes for speaker to re-appear; RESET (I don't do this lightly and don't recommend you do either since it means loss of most (all?) speaker history from Sonos account) using the PLAY+Plug-In_until_amber(red)_white flash and wait for green.

Live in NYC, spectrum cable customer, cisco cable box (8742HDC), Samsung UNC60C6300 and no matter what i change on TV or box rear speakers remain silent. Apple TV, Music via Echo and Fire stick play through back speakers as well. Have spend far too long reading online "solutions" none of which actually work/apply. Can anyone help without the need for new equipment?

Problems setting up Sonos on MyCampusnet wireless or wired network Does anyone have any insight on how to successfully setup Sonos inside a MyCampusnet network? I have wasted a ton of time trying to setup the Mac addresses and following their rules to no avail and opted for Dr Google solutions by setting up a travel router. The router seems to work with everything (mobile, Roku, laptops) but i can't make any progress with Sonos. The closes I get is the controller can see the Mac Address for the Sonos one but the setup fails. What am i missing? It's hard to believe there isn't more out there on this subject. MyCampusNet responds by saying they do not support Sonos. Any help would be appreciated.

I would like to create a "Goodnight" scene but I am unable to lower the volume using a Caseta scene. It gives me options to "pause" or change the channel source with volume control. However, the TV is not a valid source, so I have to switch to a different music source and set the volume to 0. However, I would like to have the source stay at TV, so people don't have to switch the source manually when the TV is turned back on. TV sound is coming from a Tivo box, so the volume is never turned off like it would if the sound came from the TV. Seems like Lutron should have a volume control setting to zero as well as a pause since pause doesn't work with the TV source. Thoughts? TIA

Having problems with a setup that has 32 Sonos devices. Problems are: * - songs dropping out on various speakers * - slow to group or various speakers dropping off group * - volume control does not work for many speakers or there is a big delay in volume change. ** "please note client likes to group (all) speakers at all times" Here are the details: * - last diagnostic = 966076468 * - Client has ATT router model BGW-210 * - Currently I have the ATT router WiFi disabled and set for IP passthrough to an Eero system. * - One Eero is hardwired and 4 others are wireless to extend coverage. * - House is older construction without cat5 lines run and too costly to run them. * - currently one (boost) is hardwired about 6 feet away from any other wifi. * - (1) Play 1 is hardwired to boost about 3 feet from boost and other wifi devices. * - Currently I have 6 ethernet over powerline adapters on various Sonos devices in the house to try to fix the issue. Here are things I hav
