What to get

Hi guys, I've been following Sonos for a while, and ever since I experienced a Sonos setup in a vacation home 2 years ago, I always wanted to have my own setup. Since I'm currently still living at home with my parents, I don't actually have any of them installed (since they don't want me to thinker with too many tech stuff 😛 ), but I'm planning to start building my own house next year. We're already in the floorpan drawing phase. In this stage I want to start planning outlets and network cabling etc already, so I can be prepared for all this stuff. Enough with the talk around, my first question is: Based on my floorpan, what do you recommend me to get for the entire open space (being kitchen, living room and TV corner). I was planning for the TV corner to be equipped with a PlayBar later on (or playbase, depending on how we actually plan the cabling etc there). For the kitchen and living room I would think 2 PLAY:3s would be good, 1 at each side of the room, or should I

I have a room that I use for entertaining. Is it better to set up multiple Play: 1s around the room, or one Play: 5?

So I think I'm going to take the plunge and invest in a Sonos setup as our little one is getting to the crawling stage and grabbing at everything within reaching distance lol. I'm thinking less wires the better! I'll pack my Denon/Klipsch 5.1 system away for now until I can dedicate a media room to it. We are currently in an 1100 square foot apartment and our living/kitchen area is somewhat long and narrow. My initial thoughts are to purchase the playbase as it will sit nicely on the mantle (14.5" wide). I would then mount my 55" LED TV above it. Our mantle is a bit high (4') and viewing distance only 10' away so I prefer the lower profile of the playbase vs the playbar as this will enable me to mount the TV as low down as possible. I would then also purchase the sub and 2 play 1's to use as surrounds. This may be over kill for my apartment, and I fully understand it probably won't match my current setup, but not wanting to be disappointed in the sound and wanting a 5.1 exp

I am looking to add Sonos to my existing setup so that I can extend the sound of my tv/stereo setup around my apartment without wires. And maybe play music in different rooms, but that's secondary. Existing setup: various inputs (cable box, Wii, Apple TV) feed into a Marantz receiver. HDMI goes from the receiver to the TV. Sound is driven by the receiver (currently stereo, connected to the receiver with speaker wire and a subwoofer). I would like to put Sonos speakers out and have them play the same thing that my receiver is playing through the stereo speakers. The receiver has a pre-amp L/R out as well as L/R audio in. Could I connect a Sonos Connect to both the in and out audio ports and then add Sonos speakers? When my TV is on, the Sonos would take the signal and spread it to the speakers. If I want to use Sonos to play music, the Connect would be the input into my receiver. Would that work? Thanks in advance.

So, I'm seriously considering getting into the Sonos family with a Playbase... I know it might not be the best entry system but since I got a new TV and I also need a music system it'd be the one that suits best my needs. Now my problem is that I also own a MacMini as a media center and would like both TV and Mac to work together with the Sonos. After reading some other threads around here I came up with the following setup which I'm not sure it'll work: TV (Samsung UE55MU6105) connected to Sonos through optical cable. (Watching TV / Netflix + Others sorted out) MacMini connected to the TV through Jack to components (RCA) (TV does not have optical nor standard jack input). Cable as image below. The idea is that audio from the MacMini will be output from the TV speakers and, because TV is connected to the Sonos through optical audio, it also outputs from the Sonos. Now I understand there are lots of assumptions here and I'm not an audio expert so would like to know if some

We've a roof terrace, completely open to the elements we occasionally use for entertaining/BBQs etc... however, as we have no music up there, find ourselves migrating to a smaller downstairs balcony. The upstairs terrace is big but it's only a 4.5mx4.5m area I'm looking to bring music to. I'm debating whether to get a single Play:5 or a couple of Play:1s to take up and use when needed. My concern is the space and how the sound will project. As I say, its an open roof terrace with a glass guardrail - so no corners to stick a unit in and project from there. Does anyone have any thoughts as to how well a Play:5 or stereo Play:1s would fill an empty space? Obviously, a Play:5 is more convenient as its one speaker to shift around but is one sound source sufficient - or would 2 lesser powered Play:1s do a better job as these can be separated to increase the soundstage?

Do I need a bridge with any sonos

I have a Denon receiver, 2 front speakers, a center speaker as well as the rear speakers and sub woofer. I'm trying to get away from having to run speaker wire to the receiver, as well as making it easier to connect with out the receiver. I don't have a dedicated Home Theatre room, just a living room. Is Sonos a good choice for home theatre? Thanks.

I have a Sonos system set up in my home with my music library stored on my PC. I have recently set up a second system at the cottage and I've been running it from my music library on my phone. The problem is that it's hard on my phone battery and a little wonky if you travel in and out of wifi range. What I'd like to do is run the cottage system off of a thumb drive so that it is easy to keep up to date and works independently without a cel phone. I scoured the internet looking for a way to do this and found previous posts (old) that recommended the Cirago NUS1000 as a way to make this happen; however, it appears that this hardware is no longer available. Does anyone have another suggestion that will work? There may be other pieces of hardware that will do something similar to the Cirago NUS1000 but I hate to be the guinea pig to try it. I'm hoping someone else has done this successfully.

I'd like to buy a used SUB from someone on Craigslist, but I'm not sure how to check and make sure it's actually working. Any ideas other than a visual inspection? Is there any test mode where I can hold down the power button or something like that? I suspect it's fine but wanna make sure I'm not getting a borked unit and that's the reason he's selling.

Hi All, I currently have a Playbar with two Play:1s and a Sonos sub in the living room. The Playbar does not fit in the room (it looks ugly), so we want to move it and buy a white Playbase instead. My question is will the Playbase be as good as the Playbar? We use a projector so there is no TV. I read some reviews that the Playbase has a hard treble which makes it more unsuitable than the Playbar. Is that true or is the sound quality the same? Thank you. JD

I move into an new place with 6 in-ceiling speakers and I also have a Play 5. Attached is the picture of the wires for the 6 speakers. I've been scratched my head for integrating those two types of speakers. The goal is to have a system that I can play streaming music, movie from my laptop or TV channels. Any suggestion?

I have a large 28' x 22' dedicated room that I'm building for a home theater. I have an existing Sonos 5.1 setup in my upstairs living room and it works well. My question is would the same type of setup be a good idea for the theater room as well or should I go with a more traditional component setup?

Hi all, I've seen a few posts here about speaker stands for the Play:5 2nd gen, but nothing for first gen. I'm in great need of a pair of stands for my Play:5 gen 1, see many out there for gen 2, but not sure of the differences in mounting and if it would not be compatible with what I have. Any thoughts or recommendations? Even a generic stand will do, just want to make sure it fits decently. Thanks! -Mark

I already own a PLAY:1 and was wondering what the best combination of speakers (for a single room) would be for £500. In essence, whether it would be best to purchase another 2 PLAY:1s, or a PLAY:3 and another PLAY:1, or a PLAY:5. Thanks to all in advance!

recommendations for outdoor speakers with 8ohms to connect 2 pair to one AMP

I am trying to get hold of a fixing kit to allow me to screw my sonos to a wall bracket. I am after the 3 screw pack for the rear. Any ideas...I cannot find it anywhere.

I am a plug and play type of person, certainly no audiotechnophile (technoauddiophile?), but would like to think that I know what sounds good to my ear. I listen to many different genres, from Gregorian chants to classical Rennaissance, reggae to alt rock. I am thinking of upgrading my current SONOS 3 2-speaker system and would like some help from the community. Should I go with SONOS speakers? A subwoofer? Playbar? Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm currently building a house. I am not yet a Sonos owner, but plan to use Sonos for my living room, kitchen and hopefully my outdoor patio. I will place a TV in the corner of my patio, 14' away from one edge and 24' away from the other. This section will also be screened in. I'm not concerned about moisture directly hitting any of my electronics, but I do live in South Louisiana, so I need to think about humidity. I spent a little time today in a chat session with Sonos trying to figure out what I would need. When we discussed the outdoor patio, I'm not sure I can do what I want. I would like to have both TV and audio outdoors. I understand Play1s and Play5s are humidity resistant, so I could get one or two of those and it should be sufficient for audio. However, Sonos is not recommending a playbar/base for outdoor use and therefore I don't know if there is an elegant solution to sending the tv audio signal to the speakers. Hello, I'm wondering if I can stream music from my Sonos app into my google cast that is hooked up to my living room receiver? I currently have a 2 Connect + AMPs feeding two different sets of speakers but my living room receiver just has a Google chromecast and Apple Airport Express. I'd like to have my Sonos app streaming to the living room as well, but if I can spend $30 instead of $350 I'll go that route instead.

Hi friends, I have a Play:3 and am looking at expanding my Sonos setup at home. I've had a Bang & Olufsen Beosound 1 for several years now which I love and I am trying to figure out if I should retire that and swap it for a Play:5 or if I should connect it via a Connect:AMP. Tough decision, but would love to get some feedback! Play:5 is obviously a more integrated solution and (maybe?) has better audio quality but the Beosound 1 is a gorgeous device and pairing it with the Connect could be a good bridge, but I'm not sure how it competes quality/experience wise. So - I've got a pair of Play 1s in my bedroom. I want to put a single play 1 in each of my kids' bedrooms (2 other bedrooms). Currently the Play 1s are ceiling mounted in corners of my bedroom and it's lovely and I use them to listen to music or watch tv (about 50/50). I'm thinking of either replacing the ones in my bedroom with 2 play 3's and moving the play 1s to the kids rooms. I think this gets me a little more bass and the play 3's still seem small enough to put in the corners of my ceiling? Alternately, I'm thinking of getting a subwoofer for the mbr and just getting 2 new play 1s for the other rooms. This has the advantage of the least amount of work. :) Any thoughts on these solutions? Or other ones I haven't thought of?
