Why Cloud API

Why, oh, why does everyone seem to think that cloud based integration is a good thing? It's the worst possible scenario. You have an automation controller and some Sonos boxes right there, possibly in the same room, but we have to communicate through the entire outside world in order for them to talk to each other, and of course not talk at all if the internet connection is down. It's just ridiculous and I have to wonder if companies really understand the amount of backlash against these cloud based systems is growing out there. We, and probably every other automation controller vendor, tell clients to avoid cloud based APIs and use devices that let them maintain control of their own systems. Ask for advice on any automation related forum and experienced people will immediately tell you to avoid cloud based APIs. Maybe my tinfoil hat is too tight, but I can't help but wonder how many of these decisions are based more on data collection driven revenue potential than value for the

Philips Hue and Sonos One w/Alexa... Light Command Not Responding

I have Philips Hue with Smart Bulbs throughout my home. Majority of commands for lights are given through my Sonos One's and Beam. I have a lamp on one of two night stands in bedroom that was not responding to commands. Checked the Alexa app and it showed "Light unresponsive". [b]Quick Fix[/b] was to remove/re-install the bulb. Took all of a minute and everything was back to normal. Commands through Sonos One worked. As I said this is a quick fix and doesn't rule out a defective bulb. It wasn't Wi-Fi as the light on the opposite night stand responded to commands (besides I run in Boost mode for Sonos). Just thought I'd share the experience. [i][b]Cheers![/b][/i]

SONOS ONE Alexa voice volume too low!

I just added 2 Sonos One's to my Playbar with Sub as surround sound speakers (5.1 theater config). Music sound level is good but Alexa voice volumn level is too LOW! I can hardly hear her response even when I am very close to the Sonos ONE. If I touch the Sonus ONE to increase the volumn it causes all the speakers to increase in volumn (and Alexa voice volumn is still too low). Anyone having this problem and/or know a solution for it? Is there possible an issue using Sonus ONE in a surround configuration?

HDL Automation and Sonos

Hi All So HDL has the 'works with Sonos' certification; but I for the life of me can't see how it works with Sonos at all. I found a product (Iridium) that talks to Sonos, and HDL - which kind of makes the two talk - but its not HDL working with Sonos at all, more of a control platform that talks to both of them... so I assume this isnt it. Any ideas?

Feature Request with IFTTT

We install security cameras and door stations and have been very happy to see Sonos integrate with IFTTT. One thing we've been able to do is have Sonos play a doorbell sound when someone presses the doorbell button on a video door station. However, it would be nice if Sonos would resume playing whatever it was playing prior to the doorbell sound being played. The current behavior is to play the doorbell sound and then music play stops.

Two fatal flaws with Lutron integration – any solutions?

[I posted this to Lutron community forums as well] Hi there: I have a Lutron Homeworks QS system and a Lutron Connect Bridge (CONNECT-BDG2-1). I am using the Lutron Connect app to program controlling my Sonos system. I have run into two fatal problems… 1) When a keypad button in programmed to play a Sonos favorite, it seems to add the songs to the current queue (and in some random/shuffle order I don’t understand) instead of replacing the songs in the queue with the songs from the favorite. The same behavior happens when you “cycle” the favorites via Lutron. This is not how Sonos app behaves when I ask it to play a new playlist – it replaces the existing songs in the queue (like it should). Is this not possible with Lutron integration? 2) When I assign raise/lower volume, it only changes the volume of a specific device/zone and not all devices that are part of the group. I know Sonos integration allows for adjusting the group volume – so this has to be an issue on the Lutron s

Locking groups together

I've got a 2 Sonos Ones in a bedroom and a Sonos Play 1 in the adjacent Ensuite. I want the Bedroom and Ensuite speakers perminat locked into a group, but still separate rooms... And this is why: Using IFTTT, when I switch the bathroom light on, it unmutes the ensuite speaker. So, IF there is music playing the bedroom, it will follow me into the ensuite when I switch the light on. Then re-mutes the ensuite speaker when I switch the light off again. I've got this set up perfectly, very fancy pants (when it works). Now, I've got many other Sonos speakers. If I decide to group the music already playing in the Kitchen, with the Bedroom (/ensuite), it will first create a new group between the kitchen and the bedroom, so, I have to tuen add a few more steps to get the ensuite back into the group. This is also the case whilst ungrouoing. Bit of a pain. Not gonna loose sleep over it, however, locking groups together, for my situation, would be very cool. Please ADD THE ABILITY T

How to revoke access given to an App that uses the new API?

Hi there, the new API that was just announced is great! External apps/services (e.g. IFTTT) can be given access to my Sonos system: "This gives XXXX permission to: See what your Sonos is playing Change playback and volume on your Sonos Change your Sonos rooms and groups Play your Sonos favorites and playlists" But how do I revoke the access to my Sonos system when I no longer want IFTTT to access it? Crestron

Great sounding product and managing your library and music is easy. Now why not make a complete interface for Crestron and other home control systems so that you can actually expand your market? The interaction between your product and Crestron is really crippled and lame. Don't be like MS and Apple and try to protect your IP by inconveniencing your customers and making them look for other choices.

Easiest way to get robust IFTTT support!

Hi, I have been spending a lot of time trying to create a simple and easy way to get IFTTT integration working. I know a few people would really like to have an easy way to get that, so here is one solution (the best, in my opinion, of course): http://www.bronos.net/ It is basically the combination of a locally hosted machine (preferably a raspberry pi), which connects to a public broker server on the internet and waits for commands that you issue from IFTTT. To achieve this previously, you needed very tedious "hacks" using dropbox and various python scripts, or my HTTP API but dealing with port forwards, dynamic DNS hostnames and even your own SSL certificates. With this you flash an SD-card with everything pre-installed, visit the local website to get knowledge about which will be your unique, public URL endpoint, and use that in your IFTTT webhooks. Total cost would be a raspberry pi (B, 2 or 3, doesn't matter), the peripherals to it (SD-card, PSU, a case probably), an

IFTTT - If This Then That integration with Sonos

If-This-Then-That (IFTTT) integration could be cool. You could expose playlists to IFTTT as either triggers and/or actions. Use cases could be when a certain playlist is started trigger lights (via WeMo or Hue). So for lighting, a "Dinner" playlist could set a particular light pattern via Hue, or turn off some lights and dim others. You could also start a playlist when motion is detected via a WeMo motion detector, or when a switch is turned on, start a playlist. You could use a special playlist to provide a house-wide audio notifier of new emails, Facebook/Twitter/app.net mentions, or Google Calendar events.

Sonos doorbell

Hi all. Tom B an excellent support guy from Sonos suggested I post this here as he knows the tech guys keep an eye on the forums for ideas and problems. I suggested to him that as I live in a townhouse and have speakers throughout we cannot here our door bell while music is on through our system. So.............I would like to see a Sonos doorbell that feeds through the speakers when someone presses it, perhaps loweting the volume a little as it does so that the bell is obvious over the underlying music. Finally!!!: Home Automation -> Auto lights ON and (sonos) music ON when you het home

Do you want when you get home (location aware), a specific music (list/radio) automatically play + a light scenario on? Of course you want... Great news: 0 costs and it can be done easily. Maybe a lot of you already have Sonos + Philips Hue... And we know that Sonos does not work yet with Apple Homekit... Boom!...just install [b]Yonomi[/b] app or [b]Gideon[/b] app and all above it can be achieved centralized without any further hardware. You don't find this solution over the internet (in this moment). You just to be lucky to discover it. I was lucky yesterday, I am very happy with it and I wanted to share with you... By the way, a smart plug (for thermostat, non-smart lights, etc.) that you wish to work with above apps is Belkin Wemo. Minim system requirements: a smartphone, almost any Sonos device, Philips Hue device. Optional -> Belkin Wemo smart plug. Have a nice life :).

I know there are a few ways to link up IFTTT with songs using servers and raspberry pi's etc but realistically if SONOS just linked with IFTTT it would make this a lot simpler? And would bring an awesome smart speaker system in to the smart home world.

I was doing a little research on Sonos and Amazon Echo integration. Most of the articles talk about how Sonos will support Alexa in 2017. That the integration will be impressive and the two services will work seamlessly. The thing is, I've already found two ways to get Sonos working with Alexa right now. IFTTT; If This Then That: Offers users a way to integrate various web based services together in really dynamic ways. Put simply can create simple recipes made of two ingredients. A) The Trigger B) The Action. For example; if it rains, text me a message that's raining outside. I saw a few recipes on IFTTT for controlling sonos, but there is one major issue with IFTTT at this time. If I use Alexa to send a command via IFTTT it can take quite a while to arrive on the other end. First Alexa interprets my voice command, then it gets sent to IFTTT's servers, IFTTT then tells the desired service to activate. This can take a lot longer than you might expect. iPort Xpress battery Life and iPort Support

Am I alone with the iPort Xpress? I've rubbish battery life and there is no visible support! Using the voucher for my CR100's I got one of these to try. I've never had anything like the suggested 3 months battery life, not even a full 24 hours from a full charge. It frequently loses connection despite me using commercial grade Meraki access points throughout the house. It was to be the hardware 'pause' button for my office, a quick method of stopping Sonos if the phone rings but is unusable for such function with the frequent dropouts. iPort Support is non existent and Sonos support, despite being the retailer, just point me in their direction. Someone tell me its just unlucky and their iPort lasts ages on a charge. (Don't get me started on £100 for it, if it was my cash I'd be gutted as the unit feels like a cheap £30 item)

Simple button to select radio station?

This may have been answered before but rather than having to find phone and go to app, select radio station etc I'd love to be able to have a dedicated switch which always turns Sonos onto my radio station of choice. Sometimes I turn my Sonos on only to find it's playing something different. Rather than having to find my phone I'd love to be able to switch channels from the unit. Any ideas? Thanks.
