Just installed the new app. But I can’t find where the music library went. Also no option to add a folder to the library

Moderator edit: We have an article with instruction on how to add a music library share on Windows and MacOS. Have a look.

First with the Sonos IOS app update, In cannot even see my music library.  Now the Sonos Mac PC app update I cannot see my music library. So I cannot play my music library on the Sonos system. The Sonos community lists the same complaint, heaps. Sonos what brilliance was it to render the system half useless, or the % of your own music listened to. Your explanation of functionality that MAY come be coming back is feeble at best. What brilliance drives this. Driving everyone to total streaming. Driving customers away. Driving the share price down. Or just lost the plot?.

My complete Sonos System is absolutely worthless at present as Sonos has failed to make a thorough upgrade last week. I am unable to merge iTunes library with the Sonos app. When will Sonos correct this problem

I updated latest update now have lost access to music library….. seriously sonos

I think they are trying tobe APPLE

a poor mans apple !!!!!  least apple are professional

My album disappeared and got 913 error. How to fix it?

It’s become quite obvious why SONOS screwed its access to a NAS. They don’t make any money off it. They want you to stream and stream only. Shame on them. I used to be quite impressed with them as an innovative company, now they are just another greedy corpo.

There is no “Tour Sources” on the iphone app.  I spent 2 hours on the phone with sonos getting my music back on the PC.  I still cannot get SiriusXm on the PC.  The techs never could access my music on my NAS drive.  Sonos needs to hire some programmers and delay updates until they work.  “Security issues” my butt.

Let’s face it folks, this update is total crap. We’re all heavily invested in their kit and my system including an extensive NAS music library now doesn’t work.

I’ve had to start using Apple Music and Amazon to stream through the app but that keeps crashing with a completely useless “something went wrong” message.

Most of us aren’t IT specialists so we spend hours just trying to get the kit connected, reconnected, connected, reconnected and it fails.

FFS Sonos, get your act together as a lot of us will bite the bullet and vote to buy alternative. Not that Sonos seemingly cares!

Having (also) realised that the ‘all new app’ no longer allows me to access/use MY LIBRARY, I tried an online search for alternatives as well as looking for what is (still showing) on ‘Sonos Support’.

It is truly outrageous that (with their ‘new app’) not only have Sonos removed this (from my perspective) ‘vital feature’, their own ‘support page’ STILL states that “Sonos allows you to stream your music library from any computer, or network attached storage drive, to your Sonos system”; see below ….. but it doesn’t!!

YOU COULDN’T MAKE THIS UP ……. where are the responses from SONOS????

  1. Sonos Support
  2. Article
  3. Add your music library to Sonos

Add your music library to Sonos

Sonos allows you to stream your music library from any computer, or network attached storage drive, to your Sonos system. This article will show you how to add your music library using the Sonos app for macOS or Windows.

If you have already added your music library but have downloaded or removed music, created new playlists, or adjusted metadata, see our article on updating your Sonos music library.

  1. Open the Sonos app for macOS or Windows.
  2. From the Manage menu, select Music Library Settings.
  3. Click + (plus) on macOS, or Add if you are using Windows.
  4. If you use iTunes or are not sure where your music is stored, select My Music folder. If your music is not located in the My Music folder, select the appropriate option.
  5. Type in your computer’s password if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete adding your music library. Depending on the size of your music library, it may take several minutes to index.

You could consider using Sonophone/Sonopad.

What is/are “Sonophone/Sonopad”? ….. I’m not familiar with these name(s)

Why should longstanding loyal customers have to resort to using third party workarounds because Sonos have removed functionality and released an unstable interface?

I sat in a support queue yesterday but the link finally timed out. Shockingly bad and I wish I could bill them for my wasted time researching and trying to get my system working again as it did before the forced update. Very unhappy and without music!

Unfortunately, I’m one of the few people on Earth without an iPhone/iPad, and those apps isn’t available for Android.

Just adding another voice as I sadly discovered this issue this morning and got no real guidance from tech support on how to resolve which is extremely frustrating.  Getting no advanced notification this was coming and ways to plan/resolve is a major miss.  I have a Crucial X6 external hard drive with my music library on it because my iMac does not have enough storage on it to hold library. Technician told me to reach out to Crucial and ask them how to change communication protocol to SMBv2 or v3.  Is this is even possible?  I asked if they could at least recommend an alternative external hard drive that would work and he did not give my any recommendation.  Does anyone know if there are any external hard drives that would work I could move my library too?  Can Crucial even do anything here?  I emailed Sonos CEO complaining but I am sure they just goes right to the delete folder?  Any advice appreciated.

My music library is on my Win10 PC, so I went through the Microsoft process to switch my PC from SMBv1 to SMBv2.  It didn’t help.  The Sonos app (either PC or Android) still can’t add my music to its Library.

Weeks now since I told the CEO that he sucks. Almost $5k into Sonos and still I can’t play my music. Don’t know how much longer we can hold out. Already gave bad warning reviews to every Sonos product I bought on Amazon. Not sure when someone will write an app that will bypass the Sonos app but we must hold out. See you on the other side.    —tonythenutcher

Maybe check/set the library music folder share permissions and also update the index after making the various changes?

After a lot of frustration and hassle I have managed to get access to my music library again.

Not only had my access disappeared from my iPhone but on my Mac Computers as well.

A huge thanks to Salami Sllices on the thread (link below) regarding Error 913.

This process enabled me to get my music library back again.

Dear Sonos - I’m just another frustrated and disappointed customer and your service is poor at best.

My local library is on my iMac.. It no longer shows up on the computer app or the ios app. So basically the system, which is used though out the house (8 rooms with a stereo pair in each) is completely useless to me.  Seems to me that more action and clear communication about how and when basic functions will be restored should be prioritized, as opposed to pushing new products.  Does this company understand how infuriating it is to receive an email “allowing” me to advance order the new headphones?!!!!  unbelievable

Hi Ken.  Thanks for the suggestions.  But I can’t Update The Library, because Sonos says there is no Library.  And I can’t add one, because Sonos says “Unable to add the shared folder”.

The folder share permissions are the same as they’ve always been.  And other apps are able to see my library and play music from it.

Amateurisme total.

Une faillite.

Your instincts are correct: Crucial (or ANY external USB drive manufacturer) has absolutely nothing to do with network sharing (SMBv1 or SMBv2). Once your external drive is talking to your iMac, setting up the network share is 100% up to MacOS. So the good news is there is NO reason to consider a different external drive, but the bad news is we haven’t diagnosed the source of your issue.

Have you considered re-installing the ‘old’ Sonos v16.1 app? That’s straightforward on Android (tho’ impossible on iOS).

  • Delete the new Sonos app
  • Go to APKMirror and find the Sonos S2 controller v16.1
  • Download the .apk file and install it
  • Turn off automatic updates in the Google Play store
  • Bob’s your uncle

Pbv561's solution worked for me. Windows PC. Created new file in C:. Copied my iTunes folder there. SONOS recognized it and added it.

Thank you very much

Don't rack your brains trying to make your music library work in Sonos. Just upload your files to YouTube music, select YT as your streaming service in Sonos, and voilà!
