I just bought a playbar and sub (gen 2). Now that the Arc and next gen sub are coming out, how long will Sonos continue to support the playbar and gen 2 sub?
Hi Guys, I have been a Sonos user for a few years now (4x Sonos One’s, 4 different rooms) and I am considering upgrading my living room set up to 5.1 by utilising one of my existing Sonos One’s and buying a Beam, a sub and a One SL. However, I want to know if there is an option to regroup my potential 5.1 set up to the existing group after the TV is switched off. I currently have my rooms permanently grouped as I like to listen to the same music in every room. I don’t want to have to manually regroup my living room to the rest of the system every time I turn the TV off. Is this a feature which has been implemented as of yet? I currently use a Panasonic sound bar in the living room that I want to replace but this feature alone is preventing me from making the purchase. My ideal scenario would be: wake up and listen to music in every room. switch tv on and living room ungroups from other rooms and plays TV sound. turn tv off, living room regroups with other rooms and is ready to p
I would like to occasionally use my Sonos One speaker outside adjacent to the hot tub to play music and use Alexa for turning some lights on/off etc. and wondered if there was a suitable outdoor enclosure to offer some protection against the elements? I don't want to keep it outside 24/7/365 but mainly for when the hot tub is being used so it doesn't have to be fully waterproof. It might be good to leave it in the enclosure for some days or maybe even a week at a time but for most of its life I would unplug it and take it in the house so it doesn't have to be a permanent fixture. I am based in the UK so shouldn't be subject to extremes of weather either. Any ideas of something suitable I could use please? Thanks & kind regards, -=Glyn=-
I’m currently planning to buy a pair of Sonos Play 5 2nd gen to replace my current Play 5s gen 1. But I’m concerned that there will be a new Sonos Play 5 3rd gen or Sonos Five. My guess is that the Sonos Five would be release next year because Sonos release the 1st gen in 2009 and 2nd gen in 2015, that would be 6 years apart. So from 6 years form 2015 would be around 2021. I’m just worried that the Play 5 2nd gen would only support for 5 years. Any thoughts would be appreciated
Does anyone have the above set up and listen to a lot of music through it? I want to set up a 5:1 home cinema system but I am hoping that it will also work well for listening to music. Doing this will allow me to ditch the traditional hi-fi in the room and free up space. As well as streaming from Spotify, I would probably link in my turntable & CD player as well through a Port. How well does it perform as a music player and can it crank out a high volume without distortion? Thanks
Hi Everyone I am looking to get the best out of my 5.1 sonos set up. I understand that the layout of my room is not ideal with a corner sofa See below sketch of my current plan. I have two Play 1’s sitting on Flexon stands behind the sofa and the Sub is sat on the floor next to the tv unit. Please could you help with some speaker placement suggestions on how to to get the best out of what i have? Even if the answer is that i am better off with just a play bar and to remove the surrounds / sub. Also, in the current position of the Play 1’s should they be angled in slightly towards the Main seating position? Or face straight forward? Thank you! 50 inch TV PLAYBAR SUB 2X PLAY 1’s
Can someone please clarify the 2015 cutoff month for the Connect to be considered a Modern Product? This really shouldn’t be this hard, but Sonos fumbles around on this question. For example, I want to add a November 2015 Connect to an S2 system. From what I can tell l *should* be okay if I buy this unit. But that’s not 100% clear. Does Sonos not know??
Hi All, After some conflicting information I’m looking for some guidance. Essentially I had planned 2 purchase: 2 x In Wall Sonos Speakers & AMP to power 2 x Sonos One 1 x Sub I’d planned to set these up as a Surround Sound System, with the In Wall Speakers creating the Phantom Centre Channel, and the 2 x Sonos Ones being the rear left and right. Apparently this can’t be done? I don’t want to purchase a Beam or Playbar as the TV currently sits on a chimney breast and the wall is flush without plug sockets. I haven’t opted for the ceiling speakers either as I want a speaker as part of the surround sound setup to have Alexa built in I can group. Any assistance before I go spending a few 1000 is great. Thanks, Adam
I have been putting this off for quite some time, so please excuse my ignorance since I have’t looked into this at all. I received the email for the Trade-Up offer and apparently I have three Connects and one Play 5 that will not be compatible with S2. I know that I will still be able to use everything the way that it is now, or use the Play One’s and Play 3 that I have that will be compatible with S2. and keep others on S1. The question I have is what features will S2 add that I would end up losing if I stayed with S1? I’m just trying to justify the cost of replacing three connects. Any advice would be appreciated.
Am I right in understanding it that the Trade Up Policy has changed so that you can keep using your ‘unsupported’ speakers for as long as you want post ‘trading up’?
Hi guys, I was hoping you could help me out with placing my speakers. I have got: Playbar 2 Play 5’s Sub The room I want to put them in is 9 meters long by 8 meters wide (about 26 by 30 feet) and is further fully open with a high pointed roof. I could place the speakers over the entire length of the room on a railing at a height of 2.5 meters (8 feet) At the moment, all speakers are on top of the railing for the mirrors that I have at the end of the room at about 2 meters (7 feet) height (except the subwoofer that is on the left on the ground) I will ad a drawing of the current situation. My question is: What do you guys think is the best spot to place each speaker to get the best possible sound in the entire room?
we hope it has all the audio and video decodings https://www.theverge.com/platform/amp/2020/5/2/21245203/sonos-upgrade-playbar-new?fbclid=IwAR19EgoXoxQ74F_qfx_0B6prL92Bj967yGu3v5FeCsDbeI4-xnmyVn_TTMc
I prefer the appearance of the Sub in black, but I noticed some older threads about the first generation sub’s black gloss finish getting easily scratched. Any thoughts as to whether the black or white finish will show materially less wear over time (3+ years)?
Has the Play:5 been discontinued? Or just unavailable due to virus related economic disruptions?
Hi All, I have just purchased a new sub and paired it with my beam. Sound is fantastic! However, the sub has a subtle burning electical smell… It is not overpowering and there is no smoke or heat, but it is still noticable after a few days of use. Is this anyone else's expereince? If the smell persists, I may need to take it back for a replacement. Cheers.
I've recently traded up my old, perfectly working Amp for a new version (Thanks for forcing this Sonos ^^). Has there been a change in 3rd party sub requirements? I get absolutely nothing from the sub (with speaker terminals either in or out). Tried the calibration - absolutely nothing. Also recently got a playbar, and had the dreaded optical lipsync issue, which I had to resolve using a crappy 20 quid optical splitter from Amazon. That's about 1200 quid of kit that doesn't work out the box. Pretty poor show it has to be said. Anyway, if anyone can advise on the sub issue that would be great, thanks!
Will my Sonos playbar post 2015 be able to plat hi res music with the software and app updates coming later in the year? Thanks Martin
Hi everyone I have a TEAC TN-280BT record player and a Sonos Beam. I have tried a Bose Bluetooth speaker on it via Bluetooth but volume does not go very high in sound? I was thinking of getting a sonos move and pairing it via Bluetooth but I’m a bit worried it will be the same as the Bose or get a play 5 and use audio output lead to connect to record player? Anybody know if I will get better sound and volume this way. Also I’m hoping to be able to pair the new speaker with the Sonos Beam. Thanks in advance for any help. Andy
Hey guys, I know the documentation for the outdoor speakers states that only 3 sets of the Sonos outdoor speakers can be wired to a single amp but has anyone tried a third low ohm speaker like boss 51? It also states 4-8 ohms for these. I wanted something inground next to the pool as the outdoor speakers would be difficult to mount there. If Sonos made inground speakers then I would have jumped all over it. Anyway, I just bought two of the outdoor speakers and a new AMP and have yet it mount them. I plan to use an Altelix enclosure to mount the AMP to the patio siding and run wires to Sonos/sonance speakers on the patio and deck. I haven’t bought a third set of speakers yet before I can get this cleared it. Thanks.
I'm working on an outdoor projector/speaker setup. I currently have the following: A projector which has an HDMI input, but no high quality audio output. A Sonos Amp wired to outdoor speakers. An iPad that has a lightning to HDMI output connector. I’m trying to figure out if I can use an HDMI splitter to send the video signal via one HDMI cable to the projector and the audio signal via another HDMI cable to the Sonos Amp HDMI Arc input. Will the HDMI Arc input accept sound via an HDMI cable in this manner? Or do I have to get an HDMI splitter with optical output and then connect an optical cable to the Sonos Optical Audio Adapter which then plugs into the Sonos Amp HDMI Arc input? Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
Hi Like everyone else I am spending more time at home. Currently I have two play one speakers in the kitchen in stereo. I am pleased! However - the kitchen is next to the garden and I am contemplating getting a Sonos move. It makes sense to have the move in the kitchen next to the garden. While the stereo separation is pleasant my main ‘want’ is room filling sound for the kitchen. I’ll move the Ones to my office and the play 5 to my bedroom. And then have one move in the kitchen. So - how good and how much oomph will I get out of one move vs two play one speakers? Or I could just get another play 5 and ‘crank it’ it in the kitchen if I want to listen outside. Thank you!
When my perfectly fine Play 5 gets bricked, will it still function as a "dumb" speaker?
Hi all, recently purchased Sonos Beam I have Sky Q 2TB box connected to HDMI 1 on my Samsung Q80R, with Beam connected via HDMI ARC. audio through TV apps back to beam is perfect, no lag at all, whereas I’ve got lip sync issues when watching sky Q. my audio sky q settings are correct, DD and audio delay set to 0ms. Ive carried out a test by connecting the Sky Q box directly to the Beam and the lip sync issue vanishes, if I leave it set up like this though, I lose the Beam sound for TV apps like Netflix etc. anyone help? Samsung didn’t want to know, said the issue isn’t with the tv.
Hi all I have a 5.1 set up with a Samsung TV. Sonos beam, sub and two sonos ones. The system works well with music however, when playing the TV there is no sound from the two sonos one surrounds I have one of the sonos ones connected to my router as it would not set up totally wirelessly when I recently moved house and got a new internet connection. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Janish
The Sonos app of my Sonos Move does not allow me to play or listen to something I want, from a favorite web site ? Is there a solution or I have to send it back ?
