I currently have a couple of Play 1's around the house and a Playbar in the living room, with two Play 1's as rear surrounds. As has been covered to death on this forum, Sonos will not (or cannot due to hardware limitations) support any surround formats other than Dolby Digital 5.1. As is also well understood, the vast majority of Blu Ray discs and streaming services output in DD 5.1 HD or DTS, and most TVs do not transcode, which makes my rear speakers pretty much useless as far as true surround sound goes. I've looked at Heos in the past but never took any real interest as although it had everything the Playbar lacked, the one thing it couldn't do was support rear surround. It appears that the recently released Heos Bar can pair with any of the other speakers in the Heos range to use as rear surrounds. On paper, it looks perfect, as it has the two things that the PlayBar has always lacked: HDMI and support for modern audio codecs. In practice though, have any Sonos owners actua
I was looking on Amazon and they are offering Squaretrade service plans (extended warranties) for a very good price and I wondered why Sonos can't offer the same plans when you buy a device directly from Sonos instead of having to go through Amazon? A selection of 4 year plans: 4-Year Home AV Protection Plan ($125-150) -- $11.70 4-Year Home AV Protection Plan ($200-250) -- $10.79 4-Year Home AV Protection Plan ($300-350) -- $12.78 4-Year Home AV Protection Plan ($350-400) -- $13.77 4-Year Home AV Protection Plan ($400-450) -- $15.85 4-Year Home AV Protection Plan ($450-500) -- $17.70
Hey everyone, so I have several Sonos components, one of which, my Play:5, stopped working about a week ago. I've had the speaker for about 14 months. It has no power, led's don't light up, and it doesn't show up on the app. Speaker is completely dead. Contacted support, did a reset, ran a diagnostic, and it still doesn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this or what may be the issue? A simple Google search showed dozens of people with the same problem, so it's not uncommon but I couldn't find anyone that suggested a fix. Contacting Sonos support didn't get me anywhere. They are happy to charge me $150 to take a look and repair but that seems very unreasonable. The unit was plugged into a Panamax power conditioner so I know a power surge didn't get it. Hard to believe a fairly high end speaker like this would simply fail for no apparent reason 2 months after the warranty expires....
I have a sony google tv DVD player (NSZ-GT1) that uses the sony NSG-MR1 remote. It has an IR blaster that used to work with my old sony receiver. How do I get the IR blaster to work with my Sonos Playbar?
Hi! We have recently got a Sonos system in our office. When someone plays a track via Spotify that I like, I have been hitting 'Save to Your Music' in the controller UI. I now want to go back and play some of them, but I can't work out where they are actually saved. I'm using a Mac. Thanks!
I’d like to see a updated Sonos Connect to compete with the numerous other products in that seem to be out on the market now. I’ve been considering getting a Blusound Node 2, Elac Discovery or a AuraliC to connect to my two channel listening room to handle hi-res music playback. Ple
New to SONOS. How do I keep control over the music feed for a house party when others are on the same WIFI with the SONOS app and different playlists?
Could you add a 'fade in' option with an adjustable time limit to the Sonos alarm, so that over the specified time period, the sonos component would gradually increase its volume to that set as the alarm. This would allow a 'gentler' wake up. Could also have an option of either beginning to play music at the time you specify, or to have reached full volume by the specified time.
Cortana isn't just on the Harmon and Kardon invoke speaker. It is also for Windows PC's, XBox's, iOS, and Android and window phones and hopefully Apple tvOS some day, to name a few platforms. Cortana isn't just a narrow speaker platform but the backbone of the windows eco system. Please consider adding it as a global Cortana Skill don't just limit your view to the one speaker. Thank you.
Bought cr100 controller on ebay unable to connect to system tried with Sonos bridge and play 5 any suggestions many thanks
After sonos forced a v8 update last night, no choice to just carry on without updating, Sonophone on GPM home screen is just white with lines on ipod touch 4th gen. All the favourites i made with GPM still work ok. Anybody else experiencing this?
First time poster here, and I have a question/brain teaser for the community. I'm looking at getting the new Samsung Frame, beautiful TV and value prop, hide a piece of technology in plain sight. That said they use an 'invisible connection' super thin connecting wire to their One Connect Box for all connections. I'm trying to figure out how to simply get the optical audio back from the one connect box discreetly without having to put holes in my condos walls. Right now it does defeat the purpose of an invisible connection when I have to send optical back the the Playbar I'm mounting above the TV.
Please fix the new UI so it is easier to identify my devices and favorites on IOS. The old UI was extremely easy to identify my devices - the new one is horrible - at best...
Hi guys, Hoping you can help. I purchased a PLAYBase over a PLAYBar which seemed like a good idea at the time, however its now giving me issue when trying to buy a new TV. Most of the TV’s I have looked at won’t fit on the PLAYBase as the TV stands will extend over the edge and just look silly. I saw the SANUS TV stand on the website that looks like it would resolve the issue but it states it’s for TV’s 32"-60" only. I'm currently looking at the Samsung 65" Q7F (QE65Q7FAMTXXU) it has a 400x400 VESA mount and is under the weight limit (at 24.3kg) so I don’t see why it wouldn’t fit. But as its outside the spec (by 5”s) SANUS and SONOS say it wouldn’t work. I don’t want to mount the TV on the wall, so it’s looking like my options are limited. Has anyone used the SANUS mount with a TV over 60”? Does anyone know of an alternative TV stand that could be used in conjunction with the PLAYBase? If you have a PLAYBase how did you mount your TV? Many Thanks
This topic thread should be used to discuss how you are replacing your CR100. Please post concrete methods. This thread should not be for Griping/complaining about the decision to depreciate the CR100.
Occasionally one of my S5's loses all bass reponse - it sounds like an old tinny transistor radio! It's not the equalization settings (according to my contraller at least) - bass is still showing set at midpoint, and moving it either way changes nothing. And it's not the source - same source linked to another S5 at the same time sounds normal. But what I found does fix the problem is whacking the volume up and down quickly a few times - it seems to kick the bass back in. I'm thinking it's probably a hardware fault. But is there anyhting else I should check before contacting Sonos support? (don't want to add to their workload unnecessarily over Christmas!)
Using SONOS to control existing in-wall speakers throughout a house.
I've had some luck setting up Insteon keypad switches to control some audio functions, such as play, pause, and volume. It's neat to have a physical button on the wall I can push to adjust the volume or switch it off when the music gets so loud that Alexa can't hear me. However, I've noticed that when trying to program the buttons to control a stereo pair, that things start to get weird. Namely, after trying to program that into the switch to address either the left speaker or the right, it simply doesn't work. To get the switch to work again with another non-stereo pair, I have to delete the scene and start over. Has anybody else had any success or failures in getting their Insteon and Sonos working together?
I can only speak for myself, but the SONOS app before 8.0 was near perfect. It was ultra fast, selecting room and what music to play was super intuitive. Everything important was on the same page screen. I've had lots of friends ask me about why get SONOS instead of competitors like HEOS and such. Even though HEOS and others can offer a wider variety of physical connections, sound formats DTS etc...there was before 8.0 an extremely easy answer to this: The APP. It is super fast, never buggy. You come home from work, go into the sonos app and within 2 presses there is music in the living room. It doesn't matter how great the hardware is if the software doesn't work, but with the SONOS app, it just works, always, and so EASY. But now that argument is gone. The new sonos app, with all the stuff on the home screen, and now you have to go into seperate tabs to select room and search for music......you RUINED it. You downgraded the app to something similiar to HEOS' already awful app.
SONOS has done an absolutely admirable job keeping all there original hardware compatible and functional, and I commend them for that. I mean over and above what should be expected of them, but they have chosen to drop support for the CR-100. There will be more casualties to come, as new features are seemingly being hindered by their aging platform of the original devices. They have had the beta program operating for years allowing public beta firmware and software to be tested by those that choose to become members. The system has the ability to load a different Fork of the Firmware and Software to do this. It is time to develop a Legacy Program as well to allow people to choose their path. Move on to version 9 with new features and free support (but without CR-100) or continue with the features we have today on 8.x There is no reason why this could not be done. Give the CR-100 and the other legendary Sonos Legacy devices a chance to continue to be used as they are used t
I upgraded yesterday to the lates version for Android. After this none of the cover art in my local music collection is shown any more. They did previously. My local music collection are on a NAS where each album folder has a folder.jpg in 1024x1024 resolution. All music files are flac with no embedded cover art in them. Is this a bug or a change in how cover art are handeled?
With 4K bluray players starting to emerge now, seems we really need to start keeping straight which ones will allow those of us with Sonos Playbars enjoy some semblance of Dolby sound when certain 4K blurays only offer DTS. (Note, I haven't yet purchased a 4K bluray, so am unaware of the typical sound offerings.) But we went through this once already, for regular bluray players, with many threads devoted to outlining the multiple Samsung models of bluray that decode DTS to Dolby 5.1 (I ended up buying a Sony that also does so). Now let's do the same for 4K players. So far we have the Samsung UBD K8500 (which seems to clearly decode DTS to dolby.) Now what about the Philips? The Panasonic? The Xbox One S? Anyone have any idea?
Hi, I'm wondering if we can expect any major updates to the line up soon. I'm interested in buying a playbar, Sub and 2 play 1's for my surround system. The One will probably replace the play:1 some day, but I prefer the play1 because it's easier to mount. Is it 'wise' to buy it now or could there be any major upgrades to hardware in the near future? I wonder if Airplay2 will be available to the current line up since that's still a little vague, no? Concerning Voice Control: don't really need this, but I might buy a Sonos One in the future for the kitchen or bathroom. I assume if you have 1 Sonos One you can also use it to execute commands ( for instance play music in the living room) to the other 'dumb' speakers? Thanks!
eceived an upgrade recently. From super hub 2 to a new super hub 3. I have a Sonos Bridge plugged into the super hub 3 via Ethernet. Ever since getting the super hub 3, my sonos network drops out after a certain time of not being used. The Virgin WiFi continues to work fine. But the sonos network seems to just disappear. If I unplug the Bridge Ethernet cable and plug it back in the sonos network returns immediately. It then stays active and works fine until I stop using sonos for 2-3 hours at which point the problem recurs. Any help appreciated. Ami
Hello all, I am thinking about buying a Sonos Play:1. Now I just I would order one and start listening....but they're sold out everywhere (in Holland that is). So now I am reading countless reviews just because I have some extra time ( 😉 )....and thinking what would be the best thing to do. Is there a big difference between a Sonos Play:1 and the bigger Play:3 ? Main usage would be in my living room (30m2) streaming from my Synology NAS and Internet Radio. I've got an Ultimate Ears Boombox as well, but don't like the size and the Bluetooth dropouts. Also I think i'll love the connectivity from Sonos. What do you guys think?
