I've used the Sonos Playbar with a multitude of TVs and have found a few nuances that would greatly improve the Sonos Playbar experience. Support more than one remote All households have 3 or more remotes, and sometimes even more – It is so annoying to have to switch between the remote you are using to control your media, and then use another remote to control volume – It'd be great if regardless of what remote you were using, you could control the Playbar volume Support RF (Radio Frequency), not just IR (Infrared) signals Many remotes for Smart TVs including Samsung, the worlds largest Smart TV manufacturer, only support RF signals with their remotes – Users have to find weird hacks to make the $700 playbar work with the TVs. Show a volume indicator to the TV For many TVs, once Sonos is connected, do not show the volume level as it goes up or down – it is so annoying to have to guess what level of loudness the Playbar is when you do not use the app.
often i am away from home and hear music that i know is on my sonos and i think "i will listen to that when i get home" ... but have now way of recording that fact ... so just seeing what other people would think is Sonos app on the phone could have an "offline" mode so that i could create / update a playlist and view my library when on the move, so when i return home it automatically syncs and plays what i heard when out and about ? Is it just me, or would others like this too ?
Hi I am starting construction on a patio in the next few weeks, just want some setup recommendations as I managed to sneak my Sonos expansion into the budget :) The space is going to be close to 800 square feet, so I want to make sure I have enough coverage for the entire area. I currently have a pair of Polk outdoor speakers (used with a Connect and small amp) that will be in one "zone". I am thinking I need at least 4-6 more speakers to cover the area adequately. Currently looking at the TIC GS4 driven by Connect Amps. My main question is around the TV setup. I'm planning on getting a Sunbrite outdoor TV with a dedicated pair of outdoor speakers (driven by a Connect Amp), and I would like to be able to hear audio from my TiVO box as well as an Apple TV. Since there is only one Line In on the Connect/Connect Amp, is the easiest way to get audio from both sources to use the Line In on two different Connects, and then group the zones together when needed? I would say 90% of the
Hi there I know a 'bit' about our set up, but I want to buy husband Sonos so he can listen to his vinyl in at least one room more than the room it's set up in. I just want to be sure I'm buying the right thing and setting up properly. We have a project turntable, a preamp with one line in and one line out. This goes to our Marantz CD receiver to play through our speakers. So what is like to do is (I think), plug the connect to a line out of some sort on the cd receiver, so it can pick up the signal to transmit to the sonos when my husband wants to listen in another room Would that work? And if I buy an older connect from eBay - should that still do what current models do? Thanks!

So I am forced to use PCM digital output in order to hear sound on my Sonos using Fandango Now. This wouldn’t be a problem if the sound quality didn’t become distorted on louder action scenes. Hard to describe the sound just a loud cracking noise. I have watched the same movies on Vudu (which work using the auto digital output setting) and don’t have these same sound issues. I have run a diagnostic, confirmation #1929339404.
On opening my app today (on both my Android phone and my iPad), all the items in "My Sonos" are grayed out and it says "This content is no longer available. Tap Edit to remove it from My Sonos." This is on everything; TuneIn, Pandora, all of it. There's also a black banner I've never seen before right above the navigation bar at the bottom, that says "Resume From". If I tap the up arrow there's a screen that includes a window with "Last Played in This Room" with "Resume" and "End Session" choices. Neither of those do anything if I tap them. I've clicked everything possible, checked updates, removed and reinstalled the app, but no luck. What is this mystery?! Mystery solved: One of my speakers went haywire and a reset of the router fixed it. Not seeing an option to delete my question, so hopefully this will help someone else!
I recently got the Google Wifi router/mesh system, which is working like a charm in my overly-connected smart home -- except for my many Sonos speakers (Playbar+Sub+ surrounds, 4 Play 3s, 1 Play 5, and 5 connect AMPs. I've been scouring the forums for a solution, but haven't come across the definitive fix. It seems like using a Boost is the most common solution. My immediate question: I have an (old) ZoneBridge (BR100). For the purposes of getting Google WiFi to work, is this equivalent to the newer BOOST, or should I buy a boost. (My secondary (and perhaps more important) question: in case I have missed it, is there a definitive, succinct procedure to get Sonos and Google WiFi to work?:?
I’ve given up waiting for Audible support as after a few years it seems increasingly unlikely it will ever arrive. This isn’t a rant about that, there’s plenty of existing threads on the topic. So sadly... I’m thinking of ebay’ing my Sonos One and Play 5 and instead getting a couple of HomePods. Has anyone with a Play 5 had the opportunity to compare them? I understood it wasn’t close in terms of audio quality but a recent article I read suggested there wasn’t much in it? Thanks very much 🙂
No question here, just a warning. After restarting my BT Whole Home wifi mesh system, I found that two players (one on Ethernet, one on Sonosnet) were missing from my iOS Sonos controller app but could be seen in the PC desktop controller. I had also power-cycled the players, and indeed all devices. So there was no obvious culprit. Both players had valid IP addresses though, and were on the network. I eventually worked out that the Whole Home system had restarted with some paused / blocked devices. I had unpaused the wifi ones - but had no idea that it could even see the wired ones (if you drill into the app though, this becomes apparent on the Devices page). And while it obviously can't block wired (or sonosnet) devices as such, it can purport to do so and this stops them being seen by devices on its own mesh. Coupled with this, a growing literature on other forums also suggests that BT Whole Home accidentally blocks devices quite regularly - personally, I suspect mostly throu
I'm sure others have noticed that the Sonos website (US) has changed over the weekend. The CONNECT and the CONNECT:AMP are now absent from the product page. I can see a couple different possible reasons for this. 1 - It's a mistake. 2 - Sonos is still selling the two products, but for some strange reason, does not want to mention it on their website. 3 - The CONNECT and/or CONNECT:AMP are being replaced with updated products, likely announced on 6/6. This makes the most sense to me. Although I can understand how Sonos may prefer to be a speaker only family of product, and these two products may not sell as well, it seems like cutting these from the lineup would be a big mistake. The CONNECT:AMP is vital to customers who prefer in ceiling/wall speakers, replacing a centralized whole home system, or outdoor speakers. Even if you only sell one AMP to 6 other speakers, the AMP may be crucial for a customers decision to go with Sonos or not. As for the CONNECT, it doesn't ma
I purchased my Playbar yesterday and to be truthful did a lot of research comparing sound bars for quality, sound, and cost, but the topic the TV optical/toslink output not passing 5.1 didn't come up until the sales man at BestBuy advised me to check the specs on my TV. Well my Samsung TV (UN55c8000) is one of those that doesn't support 5.1 on the digital output (toslink) port when devices are connected via HDMI to the TV. I'll save anyone interested in the Playbar / Playbase some 80+ hours of research...read this article. http://www.bigpicturebigsound.com/How-to-Get-5-1-Dolby-Surround-Sound-from-a-SONOS-PlayBar.shtml Your support forums are full of similar questions requesting advise/information on connecting multiple devices via toslink to the Playbar, yet there is no direct response form Sonos that i can see on a recommended product. I also checked your Shop/Accessories link and no products listed. For such a common issue I don't understand why you don't have a solution or
I believe ever since an update was done this year that introduced the Snooze feature on the alarm, the alarm constantly loops. So I might be out of the house and come back after many hours and the alarm will still be playing. Is there not a simple option of UNlooping the alarm to stop this from happening?
Hi! I would very much appreciate some advice from the community regarding choosing a Sonos unit for a very specific room layout ?. Please consider the enclosed floor plan, and bear in mind that no changes can be made to layout of the room or seating arrangement (so I will always be sititng ’off-axis’, and never usually in a sweet spot for stereo). * I will choose between a Play:5 or a Playbase only. No sub. * The unit will be used for music only. No TV. * The position marked on the floor plan is the only possible location for the unit. My question: Which choice is likely to give the best performance for music playback - a Play:5 or a Playbase? I understand that the Playbase for music-only might be an unorthodox choice, but aesthetically it would work great in my room. Has anyone here any direct experience with the Playbase who can compare it directly to the Play:5? Thanks in advance, /James
I’ve connected my new Sonos Connect to an old Yamaha receiver through the CD input in order to play music on an old pair of Klipsch speakers. When I play streaming music through the Sonos Connect, it sounds dramatically softer and less clear than the music that plays through the receiver’s tuner. I’ve tried connecting through various inputs (cd, dvd, etc), but the Sonos connect always sounds muffled compared to the the tuner. The receiver is a home theater 5.1 system. The only difference is the source (tuner versus Sonos connect). Any thought why the sound quaility would be so dramatically different? Thanks
Like many people I have speakers wired into my ceiling of my living room. There are two speakers which are wired into a closet in a different room which is great because the components are out of sight. However are there any updates/ upgrades to the connect amp where it would not need to be wired into the same network switch as the Playbar. I currently have a Sonos connect wired to the receiver powering the speakers but like many people have commented there is 70ms delay in the audio,
I’d like to connect a pair of Genelec 8040s to a Sonos Connect, but don’t want a jungle of adaper cables so would like to be able to feed a DAC from a Connect and go straight to XLR out rather than connect via a converted cable direct to the Connect. Any ideas of some options for this? Thanks.
Good evening I am after a little advise, I have a Sonos Play 5 in the living room connected to a amazon dot a sonos one in the bedroom and a sonos one in the conservatory but a roberts I stream 2 in the kitchen I like this as it looks retro but would like to connect it to the sonos system is this possible?
Like many other PLAYBAR users, my TV does not Output Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound to the PLAYBAR, it would only output stereo. So I purchased the Monoprice 4x1 HDMI Switch with optical Output in hopes to solve this issue (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003L14WB8/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1514747722&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=monoprice+hdmi+switch&dpPl=1&dpID=41dWnTEGwRL&ref=plSrch). I have the Apple TV 4 and PS3 running through the HDMI switch, optical out from switch to PLAYBAR and HDMI Output from switch to TV. Initially the Apple TV worked, but the PS3 did not as the sound continued to only pass stereo. However, after changing a few settings on the PS3, then it worked just fine. Here is what I did: 1. In Sound Sertings, change output settings from optical to HDMI, check Dolby Digital 5.1 box, and uncheck every other box. 2. In Video Sertings, go to BD/DVD Audio Ouput HDMI, and select Bitstream. 3. In Video Settings, go to BD Audio Output Format (Optical Di
What a news!!!! Thanks to a firmware update coming to a plethora of receivers from Onkyo and its brands — Integra, Pioneer, and Pioneer Elite — they will all work with the Sonos app. The official list of supported network AV, stereo receivers, and processors will be announced in early June along with the firmware update and availability. This power move is the result of the “Works With Sonos” initiative, which allows third-party manufacturers like Onkyo to not only mimic a Sonos speaker but also interact via mixing or creating groups, syncing with the Sonos app without requiring a hub. https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/5/16/17362208/onkyo-receiver-sonos-app-integra-pioneer-elite
A few weeks ago I started getting 1001 errors when attempting to cast any music source to my master bedroom Play:1 pair. I tried power cycling as well as removing and re-adding them with no success. These worked fine for several months prior. I get the error from my Windows 10 desktop app and my iPhone app. I have no similar issue with my Playbase or my Connect:Amp.
Why have you changed the Sonos App? The new design set up is so ridiculous. It is not user friendly, simple or manageable. It needs to be changed and made user friendly not tech friendly!!! What were you thinking!!!!!:
So, because I can't stop myself from speculating, I've been thinking about what exactly the new product coming out on 6/6 is going to be. Here is basically what we know about it... - It will have an HDMI connection - It will have a mic for voice control - It is designed for the home theatre space - The press release photo implies that it reduce the number of remote controls needed for your setup - Onkyo is going to provide more details about how it's receivers 'work with Sonos' on the same day. The popular opinions seem to be that the new product will be an updated playbar or playbase, or perhaps a SuperConnect of sorts that handles additional home theatre codecs and allowing boding of speakers in various home theatre formats. What if it's none of those and is just more of an updated to the CONNECT? The news about Onkyo is about the current CONNECT, which is an older product. Would it makes sense to have an updated version of this that has voice control built in? If t
Have been the happy owner of a Play:5 and two Play:3's. I've always been careful to watch the volume levels on them (more for preservation of my hearing), but my girlfriend tends to run them pretty loud as she's doing chores around the house. Are blown speakers an issue with Sonos? I quick google search appears to say "no", but just wanted to check with you guys. I thought I remember reading that Sonos has it's own protection circuitry built in. Also, with "active" speakers, are the chances of blowing a speaker pretty small?
In the midst of a major home renovation and trying to determine the best configuration for my needs. Currently (in my old house) I use a 7-channel receiver wired to 5 channel soundbar for TV audio. I also have a 5-channel receiver currently wires to 2 sets of speakers. NEW HOUSE WISH LIST: 1. Basement: in-ceiling vs sonos 1 for gym 2. Kitchen: in-ceiling 3. Dining/living: in-ceiling (location is between these 2 rooms) 4. Den (TV area): sound for TV. Would like ability to play sonos here as well 5. Back deck: exterior wired speakers 6. Master bedroom: in-ceiling I'm struggling with how to incorporate my existing receivers, sonos CONNECT:AMPs and/or CONNECT, and freestanding sonos speakers. Here are my current plans with a few questions: 1. TV: I think it would be simplest to keep my current TV/receiver/wired soundbar setup for watching TV. If I want to play sonos through the soundbar, is it as simple as using a CONNECT? 2. Kitchen/dining/living: I should be able to use o
