Having problems getting this to work. Fyi, this is a TV with Roku built in. I've tried connecting standard RCA cables from the TV to the amp, did not work. Have also tried using a digital to analog converter using an optical cable from the TV to the converter, and then RCA cables from converter to amp. Still did not work. When disabling the TV speakers and then trying to access the AV icon on Roku, it says no signal found. Has anyone been able to get this to work?
I've got a playbar but don't want to have the audio wire visible. How does Sonos recommend doing this? In the sonos brochure you have a tv and wall-mounted playbar (on bright yellow wall) with no wires showing. Presumably you buried these into the wall?
Hey everyone, I’m completely new to Sonos, though I’ve been reading this forum for a while now. I’ve been scouring eBay recently, and have noticed a lot of gen 1 play 5’s for half of what the gen 2 is, some in new condition. I don’t need Alexa(for this area) and I know there would be no warranty, but other than that is there a downside? I would like to purchase two for my living room dining room area (40x17ft). Later on I plan to get a new 5.1 with Alexa for the living room. Thanks in advance Jaclyn
I had a Sonos beam And two play ones but my TV will not Output 5.1 stereo. It is a 3 year old Panasonic - very dissapointing! Therefore I currently have the optical out from the sky going via the HDMI converter gadget through hdmi cable into the beam. The HDMI out from the sky box is going directly into the TV therefore I have visual from the HDmi sky and sound from the optical sky into the back of the beam . It’s shonky bit it works. However I also have a streamer that I want to be able to direct straight into the beam as well . What do I need to buy to plug into the back of the beam to allow me to have two separate sound feeds going in the beam , one from the skybox and one from the streamer. The visual from the streamer can also go direct to tv via hdmi but do not want anything I stream or whilst using Netflix or amazon from my Panasonic app to be only getting crappy tv sound. Any help appreciated! Rob
Last week friday I've got a brand new Playbase to complement my audio setup. I already own a pair of Play5s Gen2 (I love them). I set up below my TV and my pair of Play5s I moved backwards to use them as surround speakers. Honestly speaking styling look amaizing. I was really happy. Then, I played a couple of songs that I love playing in Play5s [Juno Reactor - Teahouse; Béla Fleck & The Flecktones - Flight of the cosmic hippo; Eagles - Hotel California (Live from Hell freeze over)] and I notice that sound performance decreased a lot. Low tones were not as good as previously, sound was like the speakers were about to crash. Notice that in the past the sound was simply amaizing. EQ was around 75% BASS; 50% TREBLE. So I realizen that Playbase was causing this issue. I adjusted EQ and sound improves overall, however Play5s didn't sound as great as before. I removed surrounds and group back as stereo and sound went back to original. (75% BASS; 50% TREBLE) Once again I tested same s
Hi guys, sorry if I'm repeating other people questions. I've got playbar + 2x play5 so I could enjoy 5.0 surround sound from MKV movies played from NAS, but problem I've got is that all DTS is decoded down to stereo. So I was reading up and seen that samsung ubd-k8500 can downmix DTS to DD5.1, so i went ahead and purchased one and to my surprise, it doesn't convert dts to dd5.1 but only to stereo, as this is what I can see in about my sonos system screen. I have tried plex, dlna and twonky servers on my nas and all outputs same. Even DD5.1 mkvs are outputed as a dd2.0/stereo. So now that I can see that samsung k8500 player doesn't really do what I need it to do, is there any other player/decoder/media streamer that could do it - that doesn't ruin the bank? Also, noticed that although playbar doesn't do anything with DTS, it still shows DTS in ABOUT MY SONOS SYSTEM. Strange. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I wanted to post a few clarifications regarding SONOS and Spanning Tree Protocol that have been raised in this thread. SONOS ZonePlayers use 802.1D Spanning Tree (STP) for loop prevention between wired ZonePlayers and the wireless SonosNet Mesh Network. The Spanning Tree running on ZonePlayers is compliant with IEEE 802.1D and can inter-operate with other IEEE 802.1D and IEEE 802.1w compliant devices. Note: IEEE 802.1w is an updated version of the Spanning Tree protocol called Rapid Spanning Tree. The two types of STP protocols are compatible and 802.1w should revert to inter-operate with 802.1D devices (such as Sonos). Therefore, 802.1w Ethernet switches will work with Sonos ZonePlayers. SONOS ZonePlayers CAN be connected to Ethernet switches that do NOT support Spanning Tree as long as the Ethernet switches do not interfere with the STP BPDU packets transmitted between ZonePlayers. This is typically never the case and these switches pass the BPDU packets like any other packet.
With Sonos announcing that are expanding their developer program (Click here) and created some new API that operate through the cloud, it has me thinking of would want out of new/party controller app. The first thing that came to mind is that I want a single app that fully controls both my Sonos speakers and my pool. To give a little background, my pool has a 'smart controller' of sorts on it. I have an app (Hayward) that can control the pumps, heater, lighting, and the electrical board connected to my pool. It allows scheduling and creation of scenes as well. On the Sonos side, I've got outdoor speakers in place. So on a typical afternoon in the backyard, it's not uncommon for me to be switching between my Sonos and Hayward app. Although it's a 3rd world problem, wouldn't it be great if I could do all the usual changes through a single app? As added bonus, it would be great to be able to associate certain lighting schemas with certain Sonos favorites. How about turning
Hi I'm adding outdoor speakers to my sonos system. Have the connect Amp and have been researching outdoor speakers to buy for my house. Does anyone recommend any particular speakers? I see Polk is pretty good but most outdoor speakers don't get good reviews on bass. I'm not looking for booming but I don't want all high end either. Bose looks good but is that worth the money?
Hi, I am planning to buy a Sonos Beam. I have two Play:3's, can I use these as surround speakers with the Sonos Beam. I have read you can do this with Sonos 1's, but have heard no mention of using Play:3's Can someone confirm I can use my Play:3's Thanks
Just got a new SUB and bonded it to my Playbar and two Play 3s but it sounds pretty quiet when music is playing. Anyone have a suggestion?
Can I use my maranatz receiver 1508 with the sonos one?
After many years with Sonos products, I think I've just about had it. I recently moved 3 speakers to my GF's house for a party, and spent the more than an hour setting up, including new a Sonos account, and driving home to get a patch cable… Back home afterwards, I've now set up one speaker but I can't really get back to my old account - Now it only wants to use 'The one used to set up the system'. I'm really sick & tired of all the hassle and lack of user-friendliness. It is pretty extreme.. There must be other companies that deserve my hard earned cash more. Anyone know the market well enough to suggest alternatives? -Me
Ordered yesterday from Europe shop (12.00 BST). In seconds I received confirmation from Paypal. 24 hrs later there was still no confirmation from Sonos. So, I phoned Sales contact number (Netherlands) - on hold for 15 minutes - then connected to UK agent (???). All this at international phone rates. The agent was able to discover the order and informed me it was in the delivery system. I received a confirnation e-mail from him giving me the actual order number.. I just checked via my account for Orders - There are no orders listed! This purchase was intended as a birthday present for Thursday - I took the Sonos blurb at face value (delivery within 2 working days). So far, this has been a VERY negative experience.
So I have a TCL 55E5900US and everything works - except - the remote for the TV will not control the volume on the Beam. When I try and train the remote through the Sonos app it does not even recognize i have a remote. Now having spoken at length to Sonos and TCL and read countless blogs/complaints it is clear this is a significant software issue - who's exactly i am not sure but i would like a clear answer please Sonos. And before you suggest obvious potential issues i confirm the following: Alexa works though the Beam and "she" adjusts the volume of the TV and turns TV on or off T-Link (CEC on the TCL) is on and shows the Sonos Beam in its on screen settings The only options there though are amp on or off - clearly i have amp on Sound is coming through teh Beam - Music plays through the Beam - i just cannot use the TV remote to control volume The TV remote has new batteries I have turned everything on and off again, unplugged re-plugged etc The TV says its software is up to
Hi Guys, So I am moving house this week and super excited about setting up my system. I have already been using my 5.1 setup with the Playbar, 2 Play:1 surrounds and Sub. I have gone ahead and purchased 4 more Play:1s that im going to setup in the open plan kitchen/living room. I debated having two Play:5s but went for the 1s after many spatial and financial considerations. When i have friends around im going to bring the sub down temporarily from my cinema setup. My question is, would you setup the 4 Play:1s as 2 stereo pairs or 4 mono units, given that i want to use the sub? From what I have read on here the stereo separation sounds awesome but i can only link the sub to 1 pair with the other pair not benefitting from the high pass filter kicking in when the sub is added. I guess i will play around when i move house but just looking to see if anyone has this kind of setup currently. Thanks
I have the Beam, and at some point will be getting a LG TV model 49UK7550PTA. On the specs sheet for the TV, it says the ARC HDMI port is "Designed to work with compatible LG Audio only". So, does that mean it will only work with LG sound bars? Does anyone have this TV and a Beam? Thanks for your help!
I am still waiting for a refund from 29 July 2018. SONOS, not me, advertise a 7 working day refund policy. After I contacted them after 7 working days I got a reply stating they are unable to refund to a credit card, the very card I used. Absolute rubbish. SONOS are no longer even replying to my emails as I wait for a full refund for a Playbase. I have also asked them when and if they were ever going to tell me they couldn’t refund to a credit card as they never did let me know. They did state in one email that the delay was due to the massive number of refunds they are currently dealing with. Well that tells you something doesn’t it? They have my equipment and my money and are now ignoring my emails. Do I have to get the Police involved? Buyer beware. I fully expect all the SONOS lovers to leap to their defence. Don’t bother, there is nothing you can say that makes the treatment I am receiving defensible. Finally, the title: It is deliberately designed to be provocative.
I have just replaced a Connect Amp for my TV/living room with a Beam. Very pleased with it, and it seamlessly "just works" as a TV speaker replacement. However, it is not always wanted to use the Beam for TV audio e.g Headphone use, late night/early morning when the Beam is too intrusive even at low volume/night mode, or (and this is the major one for me), when other less-gadget-friendly family members just want to watch the TV without having to worry about changing Sonos source back etc. With the Connect Amp we used the TV speakers when we wanted, and, for when we wanted the better sound, we turned the TV speakers down and selected line-in. We had a play/stop button so it stayed on or off just when we wanted it to. There is no play/pause with the Beam. Even leaving it on another source does not help, as it senses TV audio and switches back, sometimes at an undesired volume level (as it does not remember what you had TV set to). With the Beam, whenever the TV is on, it assume
Hi! I just recently bought the Beam (and I love it!), and paired it with my 2 Play 1's. It works great and theres alot more sound from the rear speakers than i expected..! However, when we're just lisining to music, I kinda miss having the option to just play music on the 2 play 1's. Is it possible to have the 2 play 1's in a 'room' for them self, while still being part of the surround setup for when we're watching TV? BR. Kasper
Hello, Loving this Play 5, but I'm having a problem with a really low bass rumble when listening to vinyl which is connected to the line in. It doesnt happen with every record I play oddly enough, but when it does its very noticeable. I have other sonos speakers that arent connected to the turntable directly and those dont rumble while the 5 is when listening at the same time. Because of that I think I can rule out the turntable (which is the Pro-Ject Essential that came with the bundle from the sonos site.) Ive adjusted the line in settings on the app but that doesnt seem to affect the issue. Also, at times it isnt a constant rumble but rather comes in waves so to speak. Is it possibly a grounding issue? Sometimes moving the speaker around kills the rumble, but Ive never read about grounding issues with that connection. As far as my setup, the player sits on top of a 3 row shelf, and the Play 5 is currently on the bottom shelf. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a Sony KDL-46W3000 (no HDMI ARC) and have connected the Beam using the digital optical out and digital adapter supplied by Sonos. The Beam is working and receives the audio signal from the TV, but when I seek to change the TV's audio from the native TV speakers to the other choice ("Audio System" - which should be the Beam), I receive a message that the Audio System is not available and audio is being returned to the TV speakers. The result is that the volume control on the remote turns up the native TV speakers. Any help would be appreciated.
When I shut the TV off and then come back later, there is no audio from the Beam. If I then switch the TV off and back on, it will start playing. This is a brand new Beam connected with an HDMI cable
Would the Sonos Amp supply enough power for the Klipsch CDT-5800-C II? Would they sound better with a higher wattage amp? Sonos connectivity is very good but will the amp be good enough for the speakers. What do you think? Thanks for your help.
