After a decade of using the same TV and a two channel stereo set up, I recently bought a new TV and wanted to try a space-saving soundbar to go with it. After testing a few units, not being fully satisfied with the sound and after speaking with a sales rep that swore by the system, I thought I would give the Sonos Beam a try. So far so good, it was easy to set up and had pretty good audio quality. Right now I am in a smaller apartment and overall the sound was good, but I found that I couldn't turn it up as loud as I wanted and the low end was missing a little bit for music (not so much for movies). Wanting to see if I could get some better quality out of this new unit I picked up a Sonos Sub. Wow! What a difference, the bass is amazing and melds seamlessly with the Beam making you forget that it is actually two units. This is something that I struggled with while testing some other entry level soundbars. One thing I did notice was that it seems like I can turn the Beam up
I have older 50" Panasonic plasma in our bedroom that I refuse to throw out as the picture is great. The sound is pretty terrible so I ordered Sonos Playbar. Under the TV I have a small shelf that has cable box and DVD player on top of it ... the shelf also hides all the wires. The TV is mounted on the wall at the foot of the bed in our bedroom (please see attached picture). Any recommendation on where I should mount the Playbar? From my research, people typically mount it below the TV but that option may be not viable due to the shelf. At the same time, if I mount Playbar below the shelf, it will look weird. Is mounting on top of the TV acceptable? Is there a way to point the Playbar down towards the bed, if necessary? I am using the Sonos mounting bracket that I ordered with Playbar. Thank you for the advice
Have just the beam, no other speakers butwatching 5.1 sources isn’t so good. Stereo is great. But 5.1 seems to have ridiculously low volume for some frequencies or channels. The example I give is watching Dunkirk in 4K HDR via Rakuten. In 5.1 the start of the movie is silent until you put your ear right next to the beam. You can’t hear the paper rustling in the wind at all. Or the background music a bit later. It’s in the mix but so low you can’t hear without turning the volume way too high. Same with amazing Spider-Man via UHD player and some films on sky hd. Some parts of the mix are so loud but others so quiet they essentially aren’t even there. Stereo seems ok generally. But obviously I’d far prefer DD 5.1 even though it is downmixed. My old soundbar had no issue with dd5.1 from these sources. By the way I should add that the sound is awesome when the loud channels kick in but too quiet the rest of the time. General TV and music both superb, so I think this is a softwar
I was very disappointed when Sonos removed this feature from the iPhone app, because it's really handy to be able to quickly jump to the next song or turn down the volume from the lock screen without having to log into your phone, start the Sonos app, wait for it to connect, then do what I want to do. It's so much slower that way. Is there any way to get this option back? I don't use AirPlay and have a single PlayBar speaker that I control with the app. That's it. Thanks!
We have 8 zones of wired ceiling/wall speakers (16 individual speakers) that are currently connected to a Niles SI -1230 amp. There are individual volume controls for each of the 8 zones (wall knobs in each room). We use this system for playing music. We do not use this for television - we have SONOS equipment for all TVs. We'd like to be able to power and control the existing wired ceiling/wall speakers with SONOS. What SONOS equipment would be required to do this?
AirPlay suddenly can't connect to my two Sonos One anymore. Music via Sonos library works fine, so does radio via TuneIn. Restarted both iPhone and speakers to no effect.
After the last update, my green light is stuck on but is showing in speaker settings that it’s off, how can I fix this issue?
In case anyone is interested in this, Roon now works feeding Sonos speakers as of Ver 1.3, released today. (Not seeing 1.3 there yet at download page, but will likely be there tomorrow). I suspect this is a good option for those with larger than ~65k music libraries. The Roon integrated database of information is quite nice as well. In any case, I have no financial interest in Roon, just letting other SONOS users know about the recent change. From Announcement: "With the 1.3 update, Roon now streams to Sonos devices! This means all the users in a home – with one app and one music collection – can play music to Sonos, Airplay, Squeezebox, Sooloos, and any of over 50 Roon Ready devices available today. Since Sonos discontinued support for the iPod dock I have been struggling to adapt to how cumbersome it has become to play music from my iTunes library. It was a classic iPod so no digital link was possible, but it was easy to shuffle my music or play from my playlists. I have since added the 7000 songs to the music library on my sonos desktop controller but of course it wont play from my iPhone unless I connect to the desktop, which is also a burden. Also in downloading the music library I have lost all of my playlists that were on my library, so what was relatively easy before has now become an issue. The library seems to have been added to the queue, making it impossible to flick between artists and playlists and most of the night the music crashes. It’s all become very frustrating. I have 5 speakers Play 1, 3 x Play 3’s but none of them able to connect through airdrop. As far as I can see, the only hope of having the flexibility is buy a new iPod or a Smart Play 1 with Alexa. An
I have two ONES with Alexa working on them. Alexa does not control any of my smart devices it just says " sorry I didn't find a device named " my Amazon dot controls all the devices with no problem. Please guid me so I can use my ONES.
Post a year and 2 months of use my 2nd gen Play 5 would refuse to turn on out of the blue. A quick google search confirmed a number of users facing the same issues across the Sonos product line. On contacting Sonos, initially they asked me to send them a couple of photos showing the speaker connected to the power supply and the serial number. The customer rep said that this would be taken care at no cost to me. After submitting the photos, I receive a email for an RMA/replacement wherein they offered to ship a replacement for a whopping $280, which is more than half the original price of the Play 5. On enquiring further with the customer rep, I was curious to understand how did Sonos arrive at the replacement value without even going through my device. I understand that a speaker like anything else can go kaput, however my problem here is the flat price tag to replace it with no guarantee that this would not happen with the replacement device. Ideally I would prefer if Sonos gave a
We have a home setup with several rooms. Our living room is the center to our home with a surround system centered around playbar. With the TV/playbar and Apple TV 4K almost always on it would be convenient to have the sonos controller available for the Apple TV to control the home audio from there. As sonos controller is already available for iOS, porting it to apple’s tvOS should be rather easy, right? Any ideas why the sonos controller is not available for Apple TV?
I have a Playbar, Subwoofer, and two Play:1 speakers set up for my home theater. I want to change the balance of the Play:1 speakers for TV. I've gone to room settings and see that I can change EQ treble and bass, but not balance. I seem to recall a balance setting when I first set up the home theater. How do I adjust it now?
I would like to have a feature where you can permanently lock speakers in a group (not in a stereo pair as they’re not close to each other, but similar arrangement). So that even if they are added to a group and removed from the group they automatically stay in their permanent group. Also if they’re switched off & on it would be good to be able to get them to automatically stay grouped (or join a default group), rather than appearing as individual speakers. What do you think?
Hi, my Sonos system keeps stopping songs while they are still playing and then not starting the next song until I go into the app, then the song will start part way through before stopping early. I have changed the wifi channel several times and this does not seem to work, I have placed the device I am playing from next to the wifi router and it still happens. At the moment it is an expensive radio and am thinking of going back to bluetooth speakers
On December 6th we released Sonos version 7.0 and added a new registration method for Sonos systems that enables the listener to play music from Spotify straight to Sonos. As a result of the changes, this update also broke an unofficial Control4 integration with Sonos. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause some users of both Control4 and Sonos. If you’ve already updated your system and are unable to play to Sonos via Control4, you can still use the Sonos App on any compatible device. If you’re a Spotify subscriber, you can now also use the Spotify app to control what’s playing. We are in talks with Control4 on potential solutions and will provide updates here as they become available.
The recent 9.3 update required me to unplug all of my Sonos products and add them one at a time, to avoid the useless "error 30". However, I am now unable to re-add one playbar and one amp, both of which were working perfectly fine until the update. I submitted diagnostic #2117542868. Previous updates have been a pain, but in two years of ownership of a professionally-installed system I've never loss the use of speakers after an update. I have rebooted my router, and none of the MAC addresses or assigned IP addresses are duplicated in the network. I work in I.T. so managing a network is not new to me, but these constant issues with updates is making me reconsider my choice of hardware.
1) Does a stereo pair allow for 2 selectable line in sources? Ex. Left = a turntable preamp and Right = Airport Express. 2) If setup as a rear surrounds, do you need to remove them from the Playbar and setup again to use the line in feature? Ideally, I'd like to use these as rear surrounds with a Playbar for 75% of the time and then as a stereo pair with a turntable for the remainder. But I believe that when paired as surrounds this removes the line in option(s) even when set to "full".
All, Really needing your help. I have finished my basement to set up a home theater. I have ceiling mounted electrical and a conduit to run cables from a ceiling mount projector to my media organization cabinet. However, the problem is that I can't find any projectors with optical audio to connect to a playbar. I will have my cable box, DVD Player/Blu Ray player, and maybe an apple TV. 95% of the time I will probably use the projector to watch cable TV & ball games. I have 2 questions: 1. Do you know of a projector that has optical audio 2. Do you know how I can successfully set up a projector with the sonos playbar for a 5.1 surround with a projector that doesn't have optical audio? I am looking at the Optoma HD143x to go with: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/optoma-hd143x-1080p-smart-dlp-projector-black/6188341.p?skuId=6188341 Thank you for any help!
Is there a way to force surround sound from the speakers even though the content might only be in stereo? My old (early 2000's) Sony amp could do it... ?
google home hub looks interesting. https://www.techradar.com/uk/reviews/google-home-hub
A customer would like to have an App for the Samsung Galaxy Gear SmartWatch. Including full control for the volume, skipping tracks etc. What do you think about it?
I keep seeing two issues that prompted this thread: 1. The Sonos solution for HT is not as good for 2 channel music as a dedicated to music Sonos system can be 2. Dialogue is too low to be easily heard if the effects are to be kept at neighbour friendly and retaining hearing ability levels, even after using all that Sonos offers to deal with this issue. Therefore: Why not go the whole way with a dedicated to dialogue centre speaker with its own volume control slider? With the 5.1 decoder in that box. With the Sub and a 1 pair each for front L/R and surround, that would then be a genuine 5.1 system, that would also work better for stereo music in stereo mode with just the front speaker pair playing, with the Sub for bass support - a genuine 2.1 system for music with the required stereo sound stage and imaging when only music is being played. IMO, releasing a center speaker that allows for doing just this would have be been a more useful alternative to play bar than the recently
I have a 2015 Vizio. Just set up beam and 2 play 1s for surround sound. The TV does not have a Dolby output only bitstream and PCM. I was told i couldn't use the surround set up with no Dolby. Is this true? On settings it states "surround ON". Is there a work around? Thanks
Anyone else purchased a gen 2 play 5 and been shocked at the poor sound? I have had it a few weeks and can't believe all the rubbish spouted in the press. Despite being used in a few locations and having true play set up its terrible. Closed in mid range, splashy treble and flat sounding. Does Sonos only offer 100 day returns if bought from them? Anyone want to buy it?
