I got a Playbar for Christmas (already own a gen II Play5 and 2 Play3s). I LOVE the Play5. Based on all of the reviews, I thought that I would really like the Playbar, but I just don't think it sounds good for music. Movies sound good (dialog is crisp, etc), but music just sounds 'off'. The mids are muddy. The highs sound artificially bright. I convinced myself that adding a SUB would fix it. Well, I got the SUB hooked up a few days ago and it has helped, but I still don't think it sounds very good. Do you guys have any tips/tricks for improving the sound? I tried Trueplay a few times, but that made it sound worse. I've adjusted the base/treble. Really don't want to return it. Any other tricks that I'm missing?
How do I check if I am in Standard or Bridge (Boost )Mode? and Should I see all of my speakers as Media players on my laptop?
Hi Everyone, Newbie here. Looking for suggestion. Let me tell you my current configuration and what I want to do. Current Configuration: Room size: 23x18 w/ 10 ft ceiling. The room is open and has another 15x10 ft of bar area. System: 5.1 integrated in Control4. Have an Episode Soundbar (L/C/R), a Polk sub and two in-ceiling surround speakers driven by Onkyo NR616 receiver. Use: the room has a TV, but is primarily used for music/dance parties. So need rocking/crisp music. Issue: The sound is harsh at higher volumes for dance parties. I just bought 2 Play 5s and a Sonos sub and love the sound compared to my current system. Play 5s are currently setup as L and R channels. With no surround integrated, the sound is not immersive with Sonos. I just ordered Sonos connect to integrate the Onkyo receiver with the two ceiling speakers. But I am open to other ideas. Should I get a playbar or maybe two more Play 5s or something else? Primary use is music and dance partie
My setup is this. Apple TV 4K connected to Sony XBR TV via HDMI. The TV is set to output sound to Digital Audio Out. I have the Playbar connected to the TV via Digital Audio Cable. This setup has been working well for the past year. Now I want to add surround to my system. I purchased two Play Ones and connected them as surround speakers to my Playbar. I get very little sound, if any through the surround speakers. I have been researching my connections and options. Of concern is a statement in my Sony manual that says “ If connecting a digital audio system that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC) technology, use HDMI IN 4. If not, an additional connection with DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) is necessary.” So is this telling me that my Sony is going to require a Digital Audio cable connected to my Apple TV (which, of course, does not exist)? When I check “About my Sonos system” the Playbar is only receiving a stereo signal, but I know I’m playing Dolby 5.1 on my Apple TV. Any hel
I'd like to take two of my old Play:5s to a Christmas party at a local church. How do I set them up at the different location and play music from Amazon (usually we start it with Alexa, but maybe I'd try using the app since I don't think I can use my Alexa with Sonos at the party), but then after the party bring them back home and have them work like normal?
Hello. I'm considering buying another Play:5, and I'd like to know if there's an easy toggle between Mono and stereo. I guess an individual on/off toogle would also work (provided the speaker auto reverts to mono ofc). Both options would be best. Since I only have one speaker, I haven't ever looked at the room configs or anything, so if this is self explanatory from the set-up, I apologize. Thank you,
If I use 2 sonos ones as surround speakers with my playbar can I still use the Alexa function as I could as a stand alone speaker... or should I just use play 1s and my existing echo dot?
I'm trying to connect my Audio Technica AT-LP60BK to play out of my Sonos system. The system is connected to my TV via the beam ARC HDMI connection. It looks like my TV only has open USB ports, as the optical ports are both "OUT". Wondering if it is possible to connect the audio from my turntable's RCA to the USB IN on my TV? Effectively having my turntable play out of my TV and subsequently out of my Sonos... Sounds like a stretch I know but really trying to avoid having to purchase another expensive Sonos unit just to get audio out of my $100 turntable. Any help appreciated, thanks.
We are a Sonos dealer and install many Sonos products on a weekly basis. Lately the optical cables that come with the Playbars have issues seating into the optical socket to the point that it just falls out. So we've been getting extra optical cables (non-Sonos) to resolve the issue, and they work fine. Any insight? Maybe a bad batch of cables were made.
I live in a small 930 square foot condo. I caught the Sonos addiction. For the main living area I have a playbase and sub. This living area is open concept to a small eating area and kitchen. In my Master bedroom I have 1 x One and another 1 x One in the master ensuite. The playbase does an awesome job filling the main area (including the kitchen area) for music and also provides excellent audio output for watching tv. I am going to add 2 x Ones to the main area to have 5.1 for TV/movies. At the same time after researching the countless threads on play 5 vs play One pairs etc. I have decided I also want a pair of Sonos in my bedroom for true stereo. After reading the positive reviews of stereo I took the One from the ensuite to try stereo in the bedroom and it is amazing. Not sure why I didn’t do this sooner. For the ensuite the 1 x One is perfect. Sorry for all the details. Now the question as I am coming to the max speakers for my condo so now is the time for me to make a final decis
I have Sonos throughout my house and have had no problems with it for a long time. I started off with 2 Sonos 5s and a bridge and then added more and now have the following configuration. Kitchen: 2 x play 5s paired, 2 x play 3s paired and a woofer. Living Room: 1 Playbar, 2 x play 1s and 1 woofer. Music room: 1 x Connect Amp. Bedroom: 1 x play1. Bedroom: 1 x play1. Study: Bridge connected to the router with Ethernet cable. I use spotify as my music streaming service. With the above configuration I didn't seem to have any problems. I have since added a Beam in the Kitchen and a Boost (to replace the bridge) and play 1 in the study. Since adding the play 1 to the study and Beam to the kitchen I have had no end of problems. The speakers keep dropping out and sometimes won't connect at all. The iphone app and ipad app are slow to respond when adjusting volume and sometimes when selecting new music to play some speakers continue to play the previous track for 10 to 15 seco
Hi Guys, does anybody know if there is a Playbar 2 in the works or have intel as to roughly when the Playbar 2 will be getting released?
STOP IT ALREADY WITH THE UPDATES! I have 5 systems and 19 devices. Constant updates make me hate this system. If you feel like you keep needing to fix what you messed up in the last software build then at least do it automatically at like 3am or something. It's annoying!
I've been having the same problems with music playlists stop playing and "network connection speed insufficient" messages coming up shortly after every track it try's to play and skips to the next!!!! Really gets annoying when your trying to chill out!!!
Media reports: Setup and configuration options have been removed from the Desktop Controller for Windows and macOS. It is no longer possible to use the Desktop Controller to setup or transfer a Sonos system, add a player, create or separate stereo pairs, register players, setup a TV, enable parental controls, manage network settings, adjust line-in settings, opt in or out of beta programs, or change Sonos account passwords. Is this a good idea?
I know that sonos havent officially released that the Sonos will work with Google home wirelessly yet but on the assumption that the update will be released in 2018 will all the sonos speakers be able to be controlled wirelessly by it. Im really confused My partner wants a sonos speaker and we are being bought a google home for xmas. The question is what speaker to buy, I want one that will eventually work with voice command from google home
Has this been fixed yet? For whatever reason I cannot delete a phantom zone/player. We have 10 Sonos speakers but it shows 12
I have a Beam and LG smart TV ( webos) when i play a blue ray it starts off fine and then the TV jumps to input 2 ( which is the beam on the arc input) and you get the screensaver thing Then i have to press the imput to the bluray ( hdmi 1) , the picture is frozen with no sound . i press play of the remote and the tv jumps back to imput 2 ( beam with screen save) and from there you just go round and round in a circle. If you switch off the lg sync control thing ( ive forgotten what its called) then the sound out of the beam doesnt work at all. if i use the optical cable its all fine , but i dont really want to use it that way. I was hoping to use the hdmi function with all the bells and whisltes does any one have any ideas please?
After much reading in this forum I decided to go for a Sonos system to replace our old Hifi system in the living room (80 m2 / 860 sq ft). Note that is only for music - I don't own a TV. In this forum, the consensus seems to be that the luxury option would be two Sonos:5 and a Sub, but that a pair of Ones and the Sub was almost indistinguishable from it. So I went for the pair of Ones + Sub, set up as a stereo-pair and adjusted with TruePlay. I'm not impressed. Sound is fine in the lows (obviously), but really weak in the mid-tones. What shall I do? Return the Ones and get a pair of Play:5? I want to be sure that this is a significant upgrade. Most posts seem to compare a pair of Play:5 w/o Sub to the pair of Ones and Sub, and the one post that compares both pairs with Subs concludes that the difference is barely noticable. Is this true?
The speakers connected to my Connect:Amp randomly output static when no music is playing. Any idea what might cause this?
Sonos is getting a lot of grief about lock screen controls disappearing with the update that supports Airplay. But at least part of the problem falls back on Sonos based upon the following observations. After installing a Sonos Beam and updating my iOS apps, my lock screen controls disappeared on my iPad (but not my iPhone.) I read community posts and Sonos statements and was confused. Sonos said that Airplay devices in my home (other than Sonos devices) caused the problem. But I don’t have any Airplay devices other than a new Sonos Beam. Here’s what works for me to restore lock-screen controls for an iOS devices: 1. Go to iOS settings and select the Sonos app. 2. You will probably find the “Lock Screen Controls” in the ON position. 3. Toggle the setting to OFF. 4. RESTART your iOS device. 5. Return to iOS Settings and select the Sonos app. 6. Toggle the “Lock Screen Controls” back to the ON position. 7. The Sonos lock screen controls on my device are no
Please let me know if you have Apple TV 4K playing Dolby 5.1 surround instead of stereo. My Apple TV 4K (v12.1 16J602) to HDMI3 to LG OLED C8 v04.10.15 to Sonos (playbase+sub+ls+rs) only receives stereo. However, the cable box to HDMI1 to LG OLED C8 optical to Sonos 5.1 works great.
My setup is: boost, 1x playbar, 1x Play:1's and 1x Sub. Playbar is connected via ethernet, optical audio from TV Samsung UE46F6400. A can barely hear the sound from the surround Play:1's. Only when I turn the volume quite loud then I can clearly hear the sound from the Play:1's, but then the volume from the playbar is so extremely loud that it dominates everything (and the neighbours will start to complain). Please do not advise to recalibrate or reset the surround settings for the room, I did that already (maxed out the surround sound setting) but it hardly made a difference. Questions: 1. Is it possible to set the volume for the playbar alone? If so then I could turn down the playbar-volume, so I can turn up the overall volume and hear the surround better. 2. Is is possible to maximize the volume for the surround sound further than via the room settings (preferably the two Play:1's independently)? Thanks in advance.
Hi there, I have the SONOS 5 gen1 with a solid red light after the latest update, any recommendation or help? factory reset or resetting controller did not help.
VINYL! I absently fumbled into a local weekend record market and walked out with 10 vinyl albums! Nothing to play them on though! So jumped online and soon a brand new Pro Ject turntable arrived. Hooked it into the Play 5s and oh my freaking aunt! I’m back in love with music! Words cannot describe the sound. I have two Play 5s paired and they have absolutely come alive, and then when I play it through the Arcam and Dynaudios and crank them up, they just sing like I’ve never heard! I usually listen to digital flac files that I rip myself from cds using EAC, or recently have bought and downloaded some flac albums through HD tracks etc. but the vinyl is just in incredibly awesome. I would urge anyone to have a listen before you start dissing vinyl. Some of the albums I bought - all second hand and most play like new: Nick Cave: My Trial (12” double album at 45rpm) WOW! Nina Simone: It is Finished (omg - it’s like she’s singing in my lounge room!) JJ Cale: Troubadour Chick Co
