My surround receiver just died. I have a set of 5.1 System Audio speakers currently collecting dust. So should I buy a completely new system from Sonos for example Playbase, SUB and Play:1s? Or should I buy 2 x AMP and do a 4.1 setup with my old speakers? The old system is SA saxo 50 front speakers, SA saxo 10 tweeter in the middle. SA saxo 1 rear speakers and a SA saxo sub 10. Or should I just buy a new surround receiver and buy a Sonos connect? I currently own several Sonos speakers so Sonos has to part of the solution. What are the pros and cons? What do you guys think will give the best movie and music experience?
I use the Mac desktop Sonos app. It prompted me to upgrade today, so I did. Only now it won't work at all because it says I need to update my OS. I don't want to update my OS – it'll kill Photoshop, for a start, and I can't afford to drop hundreds of pounds replacing software. It's not as if it's an ancient OS anyway. Everything was working fine yesterday. Can I just roll back to that point somehow?
Dear Sonos developers, I know one of the selling points of the Sonos system is that it doesn’t pause music when a call is received so this is a feature implemented on purpose. However, this “feature” is extra annoying in my opinion and, judging by other comments on this forum, to great many other Sonos users. Please add an option to pause music when a call is received like every other god damn iOS application (I would guess Android would be doing the same thing). On iOS 10 and above this is done using CXCallObserver that is part of the CallKit. Easy to do so, just give us the option, please!!! It’s super frustrating when I listen to pumping techno, get a work related call, and all I can do is run out to another room! Meanwhile it sounds like I’m at a club instead of doing work! Unacceptable Sonos!
Would be really nice if Sonos could add an intercom feature to your product, such that you could use your mobile device as a mic and be able to intercom into any area with a Sonos component. this would be a really useful product improvement.
The latest update has made my controller stop working. I use an amazon kindle fire to control my sonos (speaker and sound bar) - but with the latest software update it now says that my kindle software is not recent enough. I've spoken to amazon, and the software is up to date. I've spoken to customer services at Sonos - and they say there's nothing they can do. I cannot return to the previous version of the app. Does anyone know of a way to get the old version of the app back? or is there another update? My fire is not that old. I am really cross that what was working well is suddenly cancelled by Sonos - I understand that old hardware won't get new updates forever, but it seems wrong that it is made to not work anymore (and no warning given or I wouldn't have updated the app) and there seems nothing that I can do. Sonos is a premium brand and I had been very happy with it - but not now
I have a Samsung Galaxy A8, which I have been using pretty happily with my Sonos System on all the latest software, but I just received the Android Pie (9) update, and now Sonos is draining my Battery 30% of the usage just by Sonos in the last 8 hours another 25% is by the Play Services, and the phone is getting horribly hot! I updated the Sonos App after the operating system, which may have helped a little, but to get more than 11 hours of battery life (where before I had 24+) I have had to uninstall the Sonos App. Having had to ditch my trusty CR100 controllers (To which I managed to buy some Play1's and a Beam), Now I find I cant use the device of choice to control Sonos and it still be a useful phone. I see many threads on here about Battery life issues, and many threads on Android Pie and Media issues, but if the main interface to Sonos is an android phone and it's not usable how am I supposed to control it? After all my Phone is a Phone first, a Sonos controller well less t
I just bought the new Sonos Amp so I could add my long time Bose Acoustimass speakers that I use in my basement office (plus be able to hear the turntable and CD player on my other Play 5's elsewhere in the house). Any thoughts on why I might be missing most of my bass response on this setup? I've adjusted the speaker settings in the Sonos app to full bass and 3/4 treble. But still getting hardly any sound out of the Bose bass reflex speaker on the floor. Additionally, the volume level is probably 75% while running CD player and/or turntable through the Amp.
Is it possible to get older sonos controller versions as my older iPad controller in basement of house is know outdated after automatic updates?
Sonos software no longer supports certain functions on Mac or PC. Specifically I can no longer add a device using my Mac. The Mac and PC are not being phased out and are my choice for controlling my Sonos system. I take exception to being forced to buy another device to setup my system.
All, I have been reading the forums and greatly appreciate the community here. I have decided to put Sonos thorough pout my house. I will mount 2 play fives in my great room for music (replace some corner mounted Bose); place a playbase in my kitchen under that TV (Double use for music in there), put two play fives in another room where I have another set of corner mounted speakers for listening during get together (replace some corner mounted Bose), and then I have a sun entertainment room that is 30x15 where half is setup for viewing my TV (TV on short wall). So that is my last area to put some speakers... I primarily want to watch movies out there but would like to watch DVD concerts and be able to stream music. For that room I am divided... Would you recommend a Sonos 5.1 setup or should I do this deal with an SONOS connect attached?
Hi! We are building a new house and I need some advice on the right Sonos equipment to purchase. I will qualify with, we are new to Sonos, and we are not huge audiophiles or anything like that. We just want to easily be able to play music in various rooms with easy, and at times, push our tv sound over some speakers in our adjacent kitchen area. We are having 4 Sonance VP62R ceiling speakers installed in the kitchen/morning room area, and two Mariner 54 speakers on the back patio. All our speakers are being routed to a central A/V wire location in the basement. For our family room, we are not planning to put any built in speakers. I had intended on getting a playbase for that room (we dont need an overly impressive surround sound setup in there... we will be doing that in our basement at a later date). I could use some input on the right equipment to get to do what we want. It was suggested to me to get two of the new Sonos Amps to create two "rooms," one for the patio and
I do not have a connect / amp. I have four 5s, four plays, a beam, and 3 ones running throughout the house. This is my first spring/summer in the home, so it’s time to get my outdoor speakers mojo going. From what I’ve seen, the sonance option doesn’t have much appeal, beside being “endorsed” by Sonos. And, I already have decent outdoor speakers I can mount and wire. So, here’s the question. I’m looking to mount 2 speakers to the exterior wall. I have an outdoor/indoor, enclosed bar/arcade area and i’m thinking about mounting 2 more speakers. I’ll have to run about 80 feet of wire to connect the far speakers. Am I buying the amp:connect? Note of frustration. If Sonos has just created an outdoor version of the play:5 I would buy 4 and smile all day. I am continually frustrated by their inability to bring their system outdoors.
Man, I was so ready to go full in on Sonos. Just bought a new house that I'm moving into shortly and was ready to outfit it with Sonos 5.1 in the living room and Play 5's and Play 1's in other rooms. Then I find out poor support for new Dolby formats....tough pill to swallow, but fine. Then I find out no outdoor speakers....grrr...annoying but fine. But then I find out there's no HDMI. Gahh...What? Then I hear about the Beam and think they've addressed the issue. But now reviews are coming out and it seems it's an entry level product and not a Playbar equivalent. Why are they being so stubborn? When they announced the Beam they should have also announced new versions of the Playbar/Playbase/Connect with HDMI support as well. Sonos, take my money please!!! But you can't have this kind of dough when the product seems destined to become outdated due to it's lack of support of modern standards (arguably it's already there). Sorry for the vent. Just was really hoping to f
Hi Guys, I've had the playbar for about 5 years. It works fine when listening to music but when it come to movies, the speech is not always audible. For this reason I stopped using the player and consider changing to another brand. Before I do so, I would appreciate any recommendations to address this issue. For the record the playbar is connected to my projector and I usually watch movies off of a mini pc. Thanks in advance, Daniel
Does anyone know of a quick solution for using Sonos where not powersockets are available? (I have seen some solutions online that seem to require some altering, which I don't want to do, so a solution that doesn't disrupt the integrity of the Sonos product)
The SONOS Mac app v 10.0, build 48261220 has a serious memory leak. Using top -o rsize I find a steady increase in resident memory usage. It starts around 150Mb and grows steadily. I have seen resident size as large as 2.1Gb before I kill it. In 1.5 hours, streaming Pandora, it went from 150Mb to 560Mb. There is a jump in memory use every time a new song played.
Hi forum, Currently got a big issue that is driving me nuts! I recently moved to a new apartment, but in my old apartment i brought the Playbase and two Play 1 for surround sound, it did just work out of the box, "Click - Click - Click" and it worked without any problems :) As said i moved to a new apartment, then i sat up the Sonos again, but configured the Play 1 to be their own speaker, becuase i wanted to mount them on the wall.. But then they could be used until i figured out which wallmount etc .. :) Now when i got the wallmount and got them mounted on the wall, i can't get add them to my Playbase as surround speaker :/ It keeps gives me an error "Surround setup error".. So i have tried alot! Factory resetting both the Play 1's not working, Factory resetting the Playbase not working, Tried to connect the speakers to my Sonos via ethernet and then unplug them not working, Tried to turn off power to the two Play 3 i got, so it was only the Play 1 and Pla
Hi I know that this is very new, but does any one in here have experience with a setup using a receiver with "works with sonos"
There have been questions about the high frequency response of the Sonos Amp. User hodgeal posted a very interesting plot showing the frequency response of the Sonos Amp using the software REW. It didn't show excessive high frequencies in that single test. I had the opportunity to compare the Sonos amp to my Peachtree amp using the same software (which is very useful and easy to use - thanks hodgeal), and this provides a comparative test of the Sonos Amp frequency response. The Peachtree Nova 125 SE amp is well-respected in the audio community. It is a class D digital amp, same as the Sonos Amp, but as far as I can tell uses different chips. The test uses Duntech Marquis speakers and a Studio Projects C1 microphone. The mic is setup on-axis at a distance of 120cm, which is pretty standard. But none of the details should matter because this is a comparison under identical conditions - I simply swapped amps and repeated the test. And the results? As you can see, the amps
How does one wire up 6 connects to one amplifier (episode 12d 70w)? I have 6 rooms hardwired for speakers. There are 2 global in puts but that doesn’t help connecting 6 zones. Do I connect the Sonos connect RCA outputs to the amps Ch 1/2, 3/4, etc.? If so, does that mean I can’t add any more connects in the future?Shouldn’t I be able to technically add 12 connects since it’s a 12 channel amp? Shouldn't there be a red/white RCA for each channel? See pic below of rear of the amp. Thanks in advance
Hello, I am new here and I want to buy a home system from Bose or Sonos. Bose would be a Soundbar 700 with 500 Sub. And with Sonos it is between Playbase without or with Sub and Beam with sub. My living room is mid-size next to the dinner table and kitchen without walls. I want do expand it with Bose Home Speaker (unfortunatly they have not smaller ones than the 500) or the Sonos ones for multiroom. My questions are: 1. Would you recommend to buy the beam with sub or the playbase without sub? 2. If the playbase would win.. with or without sub? Please keep in mind the price of the sub. It would be okay. But is the improved performance worth it? 3. If you have answered these two questions and you have already experiences with the Bose System. Would you prefer Bose or Sonos (I know that I post this question in a Sonos community but a objective answer would be great). You know the HDMI and DTS „issue“.. That‘s it for now. Big thanks for the answers in advance! :) By the way
It would be *very* useful to have the option to define a sound volume level that each Sonos unit would default to every time music is starting (not only after power has been switched off and on again). E.g. this way I avoid my young son getting chocked when he starts playing some children’s music at the sound level last night’s party ended at… :) Kind regards Michael
I’ve bought a Sonos Amp to go with my Sonos One and Sonos Connect and hooked up two floors-worth of wired speakers. All working great except I can’t see what value the Connect has any more. It no longer seems to do anything apart from being an Ethernet hub - which the Amp does, too - and enabling additional phono connections - for which the Amp only allows one. Seems I could sell my Connect, right?
I’ve done some research to establish that my current Blu Ray player isn’t compatible with the Beam. I can adjust the player audio settings but that plays just flat stereo and doesn’t take advantage of the rear One’s, surround sound. So my question is... what is the best player to get (ideally one that upscales to 4K) which is audio compatible without having to adjust the settings. Many thanks.
Hi. I've spoken with both Sales and Technical Support at Sonos and have read several posts on *similar* subjects on this forum, but my basic questions remain unanswered, so I'm posting them here in the hope that someone can clear things up for me. Thanks in advance. First, my current home theater system: Denon AVR-1912 receiver Oppo BDP-93 blu-ray player Samsung HPT 5054X TV Apple TV 4th gen Audio-Technica preamp-equipped turntable Also: A Sonos dock with a Play:5, Play:3 and Play:1 connected, through which I play digitized music from a hard drive and music from Spotify. Background: I need to replace my hard-wired 5.1 speakers. I decided to abandon surround sound and go with a simple stereo pair of speakers. Then it occurred to me that, since I'm very happy with the sound quality of my Sonos speakers, I could buy a CONNECT and a couple of Play:1s and use them as my (wireless) "home theater" speakers. Here is what I want to do: Goal Number One: I want to be abl
