Not sure where to post but I need to chime in. I love this forum, but a question for all the complainers of DTS not being supported. Did you actually research before you purchased this very expensive equipment? I have read so many people whining “I’m going to return my Sonos” or I’m selling my gear” or “wahhhhhh I’m not buying Sonos unless they give me DTS”. I spent hours researching before I even went to the store to give it a listen. It very clear and in no way hidden that this equipment is geared towards streaming media and music. It clearly states that DTS is not supported. To be honest, I didn’t even know people still watch DVDs! Wait....are VCRs still around too?? People think that Sonos is not listening. I believe they are listening and their answer is NO. They have a very specific brand with one goal in mind. Add music easily throughout your whole home. I think the 5.1 is a bonus but it’s not their claim to fame. I have the 5.1 set up and a couple Play 5s and could not be happi
I am having a problem with my brand new Onkyo TX-NR686 that is advertised as "Works with Sonos" actually connecting to my new Sonos Connect for the purpose of having the receiver turn on and the input switched so the Sonos Connect input. I have updated the Onkyo to the latest firmware. All my Sonos speakers and connects are at the latest 10.0 update. I connect the Sonos Connect to the CD analog inputs on the Onkyo like the instructional video specifies. I go through all the correct settings on the Onkyo as per the instructions. The Onkyo and Connect are on the same network and subnet. I have verified that I can see both units on my network. The Sonos system works fine and I can even manually turn on the Onkyo and change the input to CD and the Connect music comes through fine. However the reason I bought it and the Connect is because of the "Works with Sonos" integration feature that automatically is supposed to turn on the Onkyo receiver and change inputs to the Sonos inpu
If you were like me, for the past month or so I couldn’t connect Spotify to my Sonos speakers. This morning I went into my ORBI app and noticed there was new firmware for the router as well as satellites. The new firmware version, 2.5.1.16, has seemed to resolve all connection problems I was previously having. I’m going to continue to test this but all is fixed as of now!
In case anyone was interested, the audio lag when watching videos / youtube / music using Airplay from a Mac/ OSX has been resolved with Sonos S2. You can also send airplay to multiple Sonos speakers (although this was possible previously). When watching Youtube / any video content, select one of the Sonos speakers from the main apple sound menu (speaker top right in OSX). You will only be able to select a single speaker here, but if you go into the Sonos App (on the desktop or iphone / android) you can then group speakers with the original speaker selected on the mac, and set the independent speaker volumes etc.
Hi, on the playbar the night mode sounds much better than before. The Dynamic was always bad but now its great to watch also action movies :-) The volume balancing between TV Channels has also improved from my point, not much but noticeable. Do you experience the same? On the weekend i will check the Beam from my parents.
Finally pulled the trigger on replacing the remaining Legacy components in my set up, at least the critical ones. This was a tough and close decision for me. The Legacy decision almost forced me to walk away from Sonos. This purchase consisted of just south of $3000.00 for 6 new amps (after discounts). The extended Plan was to just junk the remaining residuals of my stuff for now, and add and restructure with some other options as we go. This purchase would keep the party going so to speak. Shipping and packaging was awesome, got me pretty excited before I even opened the boxes. Install and connection was an absolute nightmare. Every unit couldn't be discovered for multiple attempts, the controller app would freeze and lock up on numerous occasions, Reboots, resets, and reattempts galore. And I am not talking once or twice here either. So after multiple HOURS - yes multiple HOURS, to get 6 new amps swapped out and recognized, still nothing wanted to communicate properly. Grouping is p
My Sonos life began with a Gen 1 Play:1. I was amazed by the clarity of sound from something so small and was happy for a while. But … the sound was mono and I wanted more. This wasn’t because the Play:1 was in any way deficient in design or execution, it just didn’t have enough speakers in it. So I went out and bought a second Play:1, and was amazed by the clarify of sound from something so small and was happy for a while. But … I couldn’t plug it into my TV to listen to music or movies. This wasn’t because the Play:1 was in any way deficient in design or execution, it just didn’t have the right connectivity, or the CPU power to deal with Dolby 5.1 audio. So I went out and bought a Beam, and was amazed by the clarity of sound from something so small. I was even more amazed that I could re-purpose my Gen 1 Play:1s as surround speakers: even though there weren’t capable in their own right of connecting to my TV, the Sonos system design allowed them to be used alongside a newer box
What's a better set up?
The Berlin Philharmonic has made its Digital Concert Hall free for the next thirty days because their concert hall is closed due to coronavirus. It would be great if Sonos could add this as a source!
Just wanted to mention that there are a few reviews there, wondering how these people got them and if indeed they are legitimate?
This sounds intriguing and my Tidal trial will still be active when I receive my Sonos Arc... I hope. With all the fuss over getting Atmos signals from Arc and eArc I wonder how is it effected when streaming music. Can the art output Atmos music via a stream?
Found this. I wonder if the packaging is generic or colored coded depending upon if one orders the Arc in White or Black. I remember my Play 5’s (gen2) in “white” were in a dark multi-colored box. However since then Sonos One/One SL box colors matched the enclosed product. It also appears that the box will have a similar lock on both ends (red tab) as the Play 5’s (gen2). BTW...the caption is part of the image and not this poster.
Hey guys I am looking into buying the Sub to add to my existing x2 play 1 and the Beam which I already enjoy very much. I understand the sub really improves the sound experience for music and movies. My question is should I buy the Gen 3 or go for the older model which now is 145 dollars cheaper? and how do I tell if it is Gen 1 or 2? I cannot tell from extensive google search a Gen 1 from 2?
This video is the closest proxy. The power of the Sonos Sub measured and why you should get one Is there a better way to measure or can anyone confirm the actual amplification rating of the Sonos sub?
Android Galaxy S10+. App version 11.1. The notification “Stopping the service may affect Sonos homescreen widgets” shows constantly regardless of the status of Sonos system or what actions I am taking. I have read the post made about six months ago. Sonos rep stated they would look into it. I have turned off background process notifications but I suspect I am not seeing other notifications. When will this be fixed?
After reading and researching for a while from a lot of experienced audiophile users on this community I decided to return my play 5 and get the ones stereo paired + sub. The first time I turned it own I was amazed by the sound quality and details. Although I am still not sure if I should use trueplay. My living room is a little over 20 by 16 ft and also opens to a kitchen area which is 12 by 7fr. Also has a little echo effect when I clap my hands. Trueplay does bring out excellent sound quality but feels dampens the bass.I have tried a lot of eq settings on bass level and sub output level. I read a few forums where it said bass doesnt dampen much if you trueplay only on the immediate area and not walk around to a larger area in my case till the kitchen open area as well, Does it really matter by the area you cover while doing trueplay How about turning off the trueplay and just choosing the best eq that sounds to me. Although I really enjoy the details and clarity the true play bring
Please excuse the titles typo. Smartphones auto typing is terrible. I have lived with and accepted Sonos will only playback 16/44.1, and I have been happy with the end results. I recently discovered my Fire TV stick 4K can have the Tidal app downloaded upon it and in the Tidal apps settings allows me to set playback upto Masters. Does this mean I can playback music greater than 16/44.1 from the Fire TV Stick 4K as the DAC in it or the TV via HDMI is doing the conversion rather than the Sonos Beams DAC? I haven't had much time to play around with this in that I want to setup my 2 of One SL's as a stereo pair and allow the Beam to handle the receiving music stream to push via a wireless connection to the stereo pair. Would this give a higher playback than 16/44.1. I know Sonos are due to release the S2 app and hardware updates to allow hi-res streams. Food for thought. Could Sonos confirm what I have discovered!
Hi all, So been looking for a 4K blu ray player that will convert dts to DD and I was looking at the manual for this Panasonic player and on page 31 it says you can set DTS to PCM. So does this mean the Beam will be able to interpret and play in converted 5.1? https://www.panasonic.com/content/dam/pim/au/en/DP/DP-UB8/DP-UB820GN/DP-UB820-user-manual.pdf
I couldn’t find clear answers for setting up Sonos with Amazon Music Unlimited HD Family Plan and Alexa. So, wanted to share what we did in case it is helpful for others. Our system is: Sonos One in the office Sonos One in my daughter’s room Stereo pair of Sonos One SLs with Sonos Subwoofer in the living room One phone with Sonos app and Alexa app to control everything (daughter doesn’t have a phone) Our goal: Connect Sonos to our Family Plan Play music from separate accounts in the Family Plan for myself and my daughter Have Alexa recognize our voices and by default play from the correct account in the Family Plan Required steps: Create the Family Plan on Amazon (in our case, we were upgrading an existing account to a Family Plan) Invite family members to join the account on Amazon. As far as I can figure out, these accounts must be adult accounts. Teen accounts cannot be added in later steps to the Sonos system. When you are in the Sonos app and try to “Add a Service” using a Teen
Nothing special just shows the speaker being unboxed. Best view I've seen of it so far. Arc Unboxing
Sorry if this has already been discussed (couldn’t find a thread), but I wonder if anyone has had a similar issue. Once I got over my anger at the ‘not updating legacy kit’ issue, I took some time out and despite being a hair’s breadth from leaving Sonos altogether, eventually decided to swallow my anger. With a number of legacy products on my system I couldn’t afford to just go and spend another £2k+ in one go to update. So, a few weeks ago I purchased 2 x Sonos1’s to replace two Play5’s. I received the 30% discount on them and thought no more of it. I then went a few days ago to look at the Amp and Port to replace my old Amp Connect and Connect with a view to perhaps purchasing in the next few weeks. On my account it showed that the credit against these 2 items had already been redeemed. I couldn’t see how as I hadn’t bought replacements for them. When I queried this with Sonos, they said they had applied the Connect and Connect Amp discounts against my recent purchase of the 2 x S
Is it going to be possible to resurrect a Sonos unit that has been put into 'Recycle Mode' considering the latest announcement?
In February 2018 I bought a Sonos Play:5 latest version. Today I decided to buy a second one to create a stereo couple and discovered it is replaced by the new five. Device design is different, so difficult for me to put two “different” objects side by side but, much more important, they are not compatible! This means I should buy two new five! On Sonos site they claim their products are made to stay for many years, that their systems will be upgradable with new Sonos products. This is not true, and for sure I will never by a Sonos product again. My experience with their products is over. Sonos, probably a company with a short life, like their products.
The Bose is smaller and significantly lighter than the Move. It seems the Move have a little bit more bass. What is your opinion about these 2 speakers?
did this using some parts from a lamp spares shop, I found the instructions on Reddit :-) big improvement I think over the glass shades
