Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.

Home Screen

The new Home screen provides faster access to Sonos system controls with one easy swipe up, making tab to tab jumping a thing of the past. As a leader in sound experience that’s focused on creating a better way to listen, Sonos intentionally redesigned the app on a modern software platform for an easier, faster and better experience that can support more rapid innovation.

The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.

100+ streaming services, one Home screen

The redesigned Sonos app prioritizes a listening experience that’s human - allowing you to bring your true favorites front and center and giving you more control to make your streaming experience your own.

  • Get into your music (and off the app) faster: No need to tap between tabs — the new Home screen serves up all your favorite content and controls, all in one place. Quickly jump back into your recently played, browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services, and fill your home with music and all the sounds you love.
  • Customize and curate: Enjoy unparalleled curation by designing your Home screen to reflect how you listen. Pin rows of your favorite content and services; then move, edit, or rearrange them to your liking.
  • Search every streaming library: Look for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across all your preferred streaming apps at once via an easy-to-use search bar that’s always available right on your Home screen.
  • Elevated system control: Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to seamlessly control your entire system and access a visual overview of what’s playing on each of your products, quickly group speakers, and dial in on the perfect volume from anywhere in the app.

Accessible from any modern web browser, a brand new web app allows listeners the same seamless system control as the mobile app.

The new Web App

The Web App will be available alongside the redesigned mobile app on May 7, 2024.

Sonos, the gift that keeps on giving ….

it worked so far but all of a sudden the alarm function keeps using Sonos chime regardless of the playlist that was selected and the service providing this playlist (Spotify, Qobuz, Bandcamp….)
Does anybody knows a solution?

The new app is an absolute horror and a sh*t show.

Don’t tell me it’s my network. I have high speed Internet and no other problems with the network -- only Sonos.

Simple loading of the home screen lags for 20 seconds. Playing a song? Lags. Trying to stop or pause a song? Lags. Trying to search, or switch between services, or doing literally any other function? Lags.

Oh, beter yet; even a  Sonos radio is replaced by the  Sonos chime as alarm ! Top act!

another update: the alarms works just fine when set up or midified with the DESKTOP APP but just won't produce anything other sound sound than that Fxxxx chimes when set / modifed from the MOBILE APP. Really Sonos, don’t you think we have had enough of this?

One of the biggest problems with the new app appears to be that it is defective for different users in different ways. I cannot imagine how this can be, but presumably that will be more difficult to fix than if everyone was suffering on the same way.

I know het the same impression. Also: issues that first affected some users but not others somehow “spread’ to additional users inn the couyrse of time - like my alarm playlist sudenly not playing and being replaced by sonos chimes….

The new app is still a bit of a mess to be honest. It keeps losing its connection, especially if the device has screen-timed out; going back in you are lucky if the Sonos app recognises you. I find you have to close all open device apps and then reopen Sonos; then it sometimes works. But not always!

My biggest objection originally was not being able to access my Local Library on my NAS drive. That has since been rectified, but I’m missing the album art (covers) that used to appear. Indeed, this is an issue as well when streaming from my Amazon music account. I don’t know whether they intend to correct this, if indeed they even recognise this as an “issue.”

I feel very fortunate that on one of my devices I didn’t enable the auto update feature, so I still have the previous (and far superior) iteration. They really should make it possible for people to revert to that version, if that is the one they would prefer to use.

I would hope that Sonos are listening to their customers and are planning on sorting out all these issues in as speedy a fashion as possible. But I am not going to hold my breath.

There are certainly still issues coming and going. I have had the "Your Sources" option twice now on my Android platform. When there it has shown my library. But neither time did it persist, but rather disappeared again.

No idea why, but I am unable to add any music services, Spotify etc to my home screen. Also, speakers I have added disappear. My SONOS system has been useless since I updated to this new app. Anyone else have this problem? I have zero music.

I’ll not be giving up the desktop controller for a long time. Interacting with the system requires much less fuss than forever scrolling up, down, and sideways on the pad/phone versions. Plus if you dwell too long on a phone/pad screen area something will be selected, maybe not something that you intended.

Don't worry, Sonos probably will find it is a good idea to ‘cancel’ the dersktop controller. Isn't it why they are launching the web app?

Oh but don't worry, Sonos is  most likely to ‘cancel’ the desktop controller….. Things that do work are no fun.

They’ve already announced it’s being shut down by the end of the year. FYI.

So, some 5+ weeks after the launch of the app it is still non functional. Well done people! Adapting the volume through the app is a crime, the app takes minutes (literally) to launch itself fully, show which track is playing, how to get the alarm to play the music you selected instead of the Sonos chime is a mistery etc. I won’t even begin about the more ‘complex’ (!!!) issues like being able to search in one's  own library and so on. What a disgrace, really.

Of course (i thought I read something about it but wasn't sure). Well, good luck to all of us - I do not see Sonos solving the many issues of the app anytime soon ….

It’s laggy and very user unfriendly. My daughter and I hate the new app and you have lost two fans.  It’s the very definition of enshitiffication

The new app sucks.  Yet again when  sonos does a major update I loose another speaker off the system.  How do I get the previous version of the app?!!!

With the new app after the latest update, all the microphones on my systems muted, have had to uninstall and reinstall Alexa.  Music is super laggy, press play count to 10 and it's still thinking about playing.  Shocking.  But on a positive note every time I open my app Sonos try to sell me headphones hahahaha......The advert doesn't lag.....

Sack the development team!  Roll back the app to the last known good version. Start again on development if you must have something new. Or, better yet, carry on from where we were with working systems!

I have several systems, some year’s ago it was a breeze to go from home to summerhouse and start playing music. Now it’s a disaster and slow, sluggish if even working task. Really disappointed with my +15 Sonos devices as of now. Maybe just go for airplay devices and not worrying about future f***ups from Sonos team.

Sorry if this has been asked already but can’t search this thread.

What is the thinking behind play.sonos.com, iPad app and Windows desktop app? Will they have same features at some point? And will they have the same features the iPhone and Android phone apps have (apart from TruePlay)? Any estimates when that would be?

For example, for content/music services I can’t seem to re-authorize or add music services with them:

  • play.sonos.com shows only Sonos Radio service. Not those I see on Windows desktop app and iPad app.

  • Windows desktop app shows Sonos Radio, Apple Music, and Spotify but I can't re-authorize Apple Music and I can't add new ones ("Apple Music must be added to Sonos from an iOS or Android phone. Then, listen from anywhere, including Mac, Windows, and Kindle.")

  • iPad app shows Sonos Radio, Apple Music, Spotify but I can't add e.g. Tidal, Deezer, YouTube Music or other accounts for Apple Music or Spotify because they aren't shown in the Music services list when I want to add a new one. The list starts with "80s80s..." and last entry is "Yogi Tunes".

That doesn’t seem consistent. Is there some architectural reason for the differences?

Hi @kpr, the new web app is way behind the new mobile apps. While it is kinda nifty that it works at all, I see it more as a functional demo at this point.

Bad news on the Windows and Mac Desktop apps: they are not long for this world. Sonos has made it clear that these are not being developed further and will be deprecated in the not too distant future. The web app is supposed to serve as a replacement.

I'm deeply disappointed with Sonos.

I was a huge fan and have advised many on the ease of the system. But no, I'm actively saying 'don't buy'.

The new update has made my system almost impossible to use. One action to select a source, wait a few minutes and then use the volume on the device.

And what I find most disappointing is the lack of communication from Sonos.

I fear the worse when the desktop app is ‘cancelled’ (at the end of 2024, I believe)

We are nearing the end of June and still no search function that includes one’s own local library, no way to modify a queue (eg add / remove a single track), etc.  I’m getting very ‘tired’ …..
