I have never seen an app that is so bad. What happened to Sonos. Nothing works - it is so confusing - I am going to buy APPLE and move on. You say you are open til 9pm et - well where are you?? Useless!
Under no circumstances should my speaker system be accessible from the web. This is a MASSIVE security breach waiting to happen.
Yes, if you’re not careful, the North Koreans will be adding Dua Lipa to your Sonos Favourites.

This is my network and it is my right to say what or who is allowed to access what (or not) online.
I never agreed to have the controls of my sound system online when I bought my pair of Sonos speakers… A lot of companies need to learn what “consent” means again.
This company is a joke. After the last update, tuning still doesn’t work for arc gen3 sub and 2x era 300!!

Yet another software update where users weren’t asked one second if it’s a good idea or not… “Oh we will add it to the roadmap” is PM code for “not before 6 months”.
I wonk in IT. Don’t fool me.
Please fix the queue management! With Spotify as an added service in the new app the only option is „replace queue“. No more add after or at the end of the queue. That and the fact that you can not edit the queue is a huge inconvenience and it is a shame that this was not regarded in the redesign of the app. Please fix soon.
Yesterday I had to change my iCloud password and this morning … another brick in the wall. SONOS as expected prompts for reauthorizing my Apple account to be accessible again through SONOS. So far so good. I did it many time in past. All my playlist from Apple Music are visible but not playable. In SONOS app play tab it only replaced the titles one after another for 2-3 seconds and skips to next which again is not starting. And after that try regardless which playlist from Apple Music I open and try to start playing - SONOS app continues to cycle on that very first playlist I tried to play and that's all. That's really all. I tried to do the same from Win PC all - no possible to play anything from my Apple Music playlist although they are imported and visible - throws error not possible to add to the que... This is really too much. One cannot spent whole day jiggling with your precisely amateurish work. Please fix this Apple account authorization problem that is in you garden. It was possible to play that stuff this morning prior to my alarm. Alarm in the morning is set to play Apple Music playlist and it started to play chimes instead of music (that is ok) when cannot access the source but to not be able to access the source after re-authorization is not ok.
By the way - speakers and or channel (from paired speakers) in my set up continue to cut out and in randomly on daily basis. Is this within your understanding of delivered to customer experience?
This app can’t match the old app. This app feels like a pre-alpha in usability and takes away (meaningful access ) to features that have been enjoyed by the community for years. What’s the point of bringing a new app that has no way of competing with the old app within a reasonable timeframe? I don’t believe anyone asked for a new app from what I can tell.
It’s a NO from me. Accept defeat. Roll back. Let the users have the previous app back. This new app is utterly awful in all respects. It’s unintuitive, cluttered and horrible to use, and that’s without mentioning that any useful features have been removed. Utter junk.
Just wanted to register my disgust at this app update. I’ve been using Sonos for a long time and local library usage is most of my usage pattern…
However even that doesn’t excuse just how awful the new app is. Luckily after the shock of what it did to my phone, I managed to retain the previous app elsewhere. So now my phone is effectively in Alpha test for this… It’s just awful on so many levels. Even the basic stuff like connecting to the devices and just pausing/restarting is painful.
You can’t scroll through pages of stuff without the simple solution of being able to select a letter… everything does this, even Apple Carplay in the car manages an easy to use letter selection…
Sonos you need to hang your head in shame. I’ve gone from being an advocate to friends and family, to being neutral after the S1 to S2 debacle for which I never got the CR100 rebate… and now I’d tell people to firmly avoid Sonos right now as if they had to start a system with this app they’d be taking it back for a refund and would never take anything I recommended seriously ever again. Also I like my friends so pushing this on them would just be rude. (Even with the latest alpha-code updates...)
Here we go again.. What a crap investment this was. Now I must disable auto updates on all of my ios devices so Sonos doesn’t destroy my home system again.
I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER SONOS PRODUCT AGAIN, AND THIS IS WHY.
YOU HAVE NOT LEARNED A DAMN THING.
I am with you. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER SONOS HARDWARE PIECE EVER AGAIN.
I am with you. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER SONOS HARDWARE PIECE EVER AGAIN.
Which begs the question: Why should they care if they already lost you as a customer?

It would appear that they didn’t care to begin with!

What do the people at Sonos think? Everything was working fine. Suddenly the app is updated with a UI that is terribly slow, lacks basic functionality and is just hard to navigate. Queue management is a disaster. What happened to basic things like add to queue, go to an album from a song? to just mention a few. Go back to previous UI !
Looks like I’m late to the Sonos app party. I thought I was the only one having issues with the newest app. Wow, 60 pages, too many to read. When can we get our old app back? Like some I’ve read here, I’ve lost My Library. There’s all sorts of issues I’m having with the iPad & phone app. This isn’t funny Sonos. Will there be a solution to this fiasco? Can we demand our old S2 app back? I went to the community site to ask about this new headphones (which I wasn’t thinking of getting) & see what everyone’s thoughts on it when most everyone was complaining about fixing the newest app release. Wow! Well this new app SUCKs!
Hey, a rollback to the previous version would be a good alternative and they will have the time to correct the present crappy version

And this is just one thread! Even the Washington Post knows how bad the Sonos app is!

I wonder if we are getting into class action territory with this - The crap software is making the expensive hardware unfit for purpose. I wonder if there are any good legal people on here that care to comment.
Thanks. To be clear then, after updating from S2 to the new version (I'm not calling it an upgrade), users can still play from a local library but will have no ability whatsoever to search from it?
For now that is correct. There is an alternative though. You can use Plex, most NAS also support it. Universal Search does support Plex.
Interesting Sonos recommending a 3rd party solution to their problem, yet they don’t seem to be advocating the SonoPad / SonoPhone controller apps to backfill the holes in the current SONOS controller app.
My WD NAS has Plex and I finally set it up. It’s a bit fiddly and I had to enable “remote access” to get Sonos to see it. Not sure why - it is not remote and I have no interest in reaching it from outside my home. Initially some tracks would not play - “lost connection” issue which is covered in dozens of posts. My solution: sleep on it. I think there is some “processing” Plex is doing that took a while (our library has 5000+ files). This morning, they play. Tomorrow? Who knows.
Hard to know what is happening though with playback and “remote access” which seems to be required. If I disable my Internet (literally stop the gateway), then playback from the Plex services on SONOS stops even though my local network is fully functional. So that plux. Not obvious what is going on, but I hope my music is not streaming from my house into the “Plex ether” and then back to my house and to SONOS. At any rate, Plex as a solution for SONOS’s broken system seems a bit like duct tape and bailing wire.
And indeed, the search seems to work as long as you are happy to get non-qualified results - no way to search for a song/album/artist, etc - you get the entire lot of anything that is in the search string. Who knew the 2020s would regress so far from the early 2000s. Way to blaze a trail, Sonos.
That said, with no queue management, search is all but pointless - what to do with the results? Blow out the current playing queue? In the age of emerging AI, Sonos has latched on to artificial stupidity. Trail blazers for sure.

The controller app now sits on web architecture and uses web services so you will need the internet on all the time and this is the reason for the disconnects, slowness and random bouncing functionality. And you're right, why do you need remote access for a WiFi/LAN system. This is what they've done, cut the app from local execution. You only have to ask why?

Totally agree with your assessment and observations! As for ‘why’ I’m heavily inclined to apply Hanlon’s Razor: never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

I think Sonos considers people wanting to play local media a thing of the past. Streaming is now the way people consume music. So if you have an internet outage streaming will not work anyway.
