Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.

Home Screen

The new Home screen provides faster access to Sonos system controls with one easy swipe up, making tab to tab jumping a thing of the past. As a leader in sound experience that’s focused on creating a better way to listen, Sonos intentionally redesigned the app on a modern software platform for an easier, faster and better experience that can support more rapid innovation.

The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.

100+ streaming services, one Home screen

The redesigned Sonos app prioritizes a listening experience that’s human - allowing you to bring your true favorites front and center and giving you more control to make your streaming experience your own.

  • Get into your music (and off the app) faster: No need to tap between tabs — the new Home screen serves up all your favorite content and controls, all in one place. Quickly jump back into your recently played, browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services, and fill your home with music and all the sounds you love.
  • Customize and curate: Enjoy unparalleled curation by designing your Home screen to reflect how you listen. Pin rows of your favorite content and services; then move, edit, or rearrange them to your liking.
  • Search every streaming library: Look for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across all your preferred streaming apps at once via an easy-to-use search bar that’s always available right on your Home screen.
  • Elevated system control: Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to seamlessly control your entire system and access a visual overview of what’s playing on each of your products, quickly group speakers, and dial in on the perfect volume from anywhere in the app.

Accessible from any modern web browser, a brand new web app allows listeners the same seamless system control as the mobile app.

The new Web App

The Web App will be available alongside the redesigned mobile app on May 7, 2024.

Post after you update?

We are nearing the end of June and still no search function that includes one’s own local library, no way to modify a queue (eg add / remove a single track), etc.  I’m getting very ‘tired’ …..

See if today's update is the one....

No queue or playlist management but that’s meant to be July anyway. (The end of July is five weeks away so that’s quite a wide timeframe for us to keep hoping in..!)

I can’t see any differences so far, but my app and system were already working well (I don’t use libraries, only streamers), aside from some elements yet to be added to the new app.

Given it was about app connectivity with newer systems, I’m not sure I will notice anything. I’m refreshing the Release Notes page to see if there is anything further listed there, but nothing for the latest app yet.

Yeah no visible difference that I can see with 80.03.07

No, I can’t see anything material.

I forgot to mention above - for the reference of all - that there was also a firmware update available after I updated the app on iOS, which went smoothly. I can’t determine any changes really.

Will keep looking at the Release Notes page for any hints there...

That's even better than I expected…

Seriously, when I read the CEO stating that they had been testing the new app since Christmas prior to it's May release, I did wonder what part of it they had been testing for over four months. The other interesting remark that he made was that on the morning of the release a problem became apparent but they still went ahead anyway.

What I just don’t get is that when you watch the promo video for the new app from end April, it shows the app with all the menu options (like Add to Playlist) working like a charm. Why on earth create the app with them in place, make the promo video, and then release it with so many menu items missing…

It was strange and must have been removed late on - but if so, it’s also a little strange that it couldn’t be re-added quicker too.

Even worse for me was that when it was released, and for quite some time after, the main page urging users to update stated that:

“We've taken great care to ensure that this update only enhances your Sonos experience. Your products, features and services will work as they always have, and all your settings will be saved.”

It was bad to have those statements on release - but shocking they stayed there long after it was very evident they simply weren’t true.

Hey, I just had a flash idea...wait for it…

SONOS should come out with…

“An extensive app redesign, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.”

Now that would be something. It sure would be better than the kindergarten project they’ve dumped onto us.

I just assumed it was faked like animated or whatever for marketing or was a non working mock up so we would install without question.

Nope  - postponed …. Until ‘July’ ….

I am alone with alarms that cannot be modified (save icon does not work) or created as new (again, save icon does not work)???

last update of this incredibly crazy app and iOS 17.5.1

Dear SONOS, I just tested the latest available app. I haven’t tested all sections of the Music Library, but at least when it comes to accessing Folders from the Music Library, there are still issues.

For comparison, see the 2 screenshots with the so-called “context menu”, file vs. folder.

When you fix this issues, please restore those options to both files and folders.

For reference, see this screenshot with the similar section in the old app:

Needless to say… all those options would be welcome 🙂

These are the type of articles i am reading now. Another months or so without the old featues, and i’m going to start letting my wallet talk.

Last update…

Now find that you can't control system if you switch between iOS and android... either device will just show what it was playing previously!!

Didn't experience this behaviour before... had to power down non- responsive unit/reinstall app etc.

Fortunately, so have only had issues that seem to be commonly reported. But my impression is that each time an update happens something else fails/changes its behaviour and the incremental restorations aren't really overtaking the numerous new issues... are Sonos being overwhelmed... will we get the functionality back we used to have? End of July sounds optimistic.

Notice comments regarding the diminishing levels of Sonos staff engagement...

My impression too. They appear to have painted themselves into a corner with this one. Nearly two months on and I'm surely not alone in having found alternative ways to access my  radio stations and my music library. The app cannot even find my system when I open it. Sonos has become the technological equivalent of the band playing while the Titanic sinks.

Agreed, and not just the tech angle... large losses and the headphones aren't receiving many plaudits either...

I agree with the Titanic analogy, and the comments above concerning the CEO’s comments. “Courage” indeed. It’s an arrogant mess. As I noted in another thread, I was considering updating my system, but intend to see how this plays out. If things don’t improve radically, and soon, I will simply cut my losses and switch to another brand, and for good. I love my music and international radio stations so much more than these speakers ...

Fix search in Pandora! It's completely non functional in the updated app.

Fix search in Pandora! It's completely non functional in the updated app.

Is that something reported by multiple people? I’ve not seen other comments on Pandora’s search but I’ve not been looking for them.
Maybe other Pandora users can help/confirm/advise.

(Or on the home screen, go to Your Services/Manage, then tap Pandora (then possibly the connected account), then tap Reauthorize account to re-establish the link to your Pandora account.

See if that works. Or remove the account from the app and re-add it.)

I just tried removing and re-authorizing Pandora. The issue persists. No matter what is searched for in Pandora, it returns “No results for...”. This has been going on since the “New Search” was introduced in the old version (16.2). Fortunately that version allows one to continue to use “Classic Search”, so I have not upgraded the controller app on my primary devices.  There are at least 2 other threads where other Pandora users have reported this problem.

Frankly, this update has been such a disaster, with so many functions broken, that there are probably others issues under reported, because the list is so long of what people are noticing. Shameful.
