Sounds terrible to me. I have a big room and
since update the volume has to be on 100, When normally 75 at the most.. Need a fix soon!
Well I know if I were an engineer (which I am), the first thing I'd do after being called a "team of idiots" would be to bend over backwards to fix that person's problem (Not!).
Please people, you can be upset without being insulting. We are adults, we don't need to be abusive to get our point across.
Apologies if my wording offended you. But in my eyes, the company would be idiots if they did not sort this. The amount of money that not just myself but lots of other people have invested in these products, then for a team of (whatever you call them) to come along and ruin it, is just unacceptable. You don't have to side with us but at least have an understanding if it was your hard earned cash gone to ruins. That's how passionate I am and I share this exact same frustration with the other vast majority on here.
@nikid ….. i agree with your statements 100% I think if i put my true feelings about sonos on here it would be way worse than the word ‘idiots’.
You can be passionate with being abusive. You have no idea what the decision process was for this change, calling people idiots just because they tried to fix a long standing complaint about dialog clarity is neither warranted or productive And as far as others siding with you or not, I suggest the more abusive the rant, the less support you will get. I'm 100% behind people unsatisfied with these changes, right up until they start heaping abuse on people who can't fight back.

Now I've got my apology out of the way, here's what I really think. You would absolutely be bending over backwards and fixing it, because it's not just mine and others problem but yours too. My purchase made your company profit and paid you. People forget these fundamentals. Your brand and reputation would be on the line and ultimately you too in line at the job centre. Here's hoping you do work for Sonos, take heed and do the right thing.
I haven’t seen anyone complaining about the clearity of voices. But anyway, why couldn’t these new changes be under Speech Enhancement? Why should all suffer because some of your costumers have hearing disability?

If I were a Sonos engineer, my paycheck would be signed by Sonos, not you or any other customer, and I'd be taking my orders from them, not you. So stop with the entitled BS. You don't pay their salaries, and you aren't entitled to abuse them just because you contributed $2k of the billion dollars per year they pull in.
Since the update I haven’t done a Trueplay tuning, and the dialog is better, and it’s a joy to listen to music, I really enjoy the update, it’s a shame that there’s a bug with Trueplay, but I’m glad you are working on fixing it :)

That's a question for Sonos.
Changes to volume mapping and impact on Sub output
Thank you for your feedback regarding the recent 14.12 software update with Enhanced Clarity for Arc.
In this update, we made a change to Arc’s audio profile to improve dialogue clarity and the overall sound experience. This change is based on feedback from our listeners in the field and brings Arc in line with our other Home Theater products, resulting in a more accurate representation of the sound as intended by the content creator.
The updated tuning adjusts the spectral balance of Arc+Sub to achieve a more accurate representation of the sound and an improved sound experience. While the Arc+Sub output capability remains the same, the mapping of volume across the 0-100% range has been adjusted with this release which means low and mid volume levels are relatively lower compared to the previous tuning so you may need to adjust the volume slider to achieve your pre-update volume level. The maximum volume and bass output are unchanged. We acknowledge that this change was not made more clear in the release notes and in the future we’ll be sure to make sure we communicate these rare changes more effectively.
Please note, we have identified an issue for some users of Arc, Beam and Ray whose configuration includes a Sub (with or without surrounds), who may find their Sub output is lower than desired after performing a new Trueplay tuning.
Users with Beam or Ray bonded with Sub can increase the Sub level for a more powerful low-end response, however this won’t have the same impact for Arc users. Customers using Arc bonded with a Sub (and/or surrounds) who find their Sub output is lower than desired following performing a new Trueplay tuning, should temporarily disable Trueplay on Arc until this is addressed by an upcoming software update.
Trueplay tunings for Home Theater configurations without a bonded Sub are unaffected, including standalone soundbars and those bonded with surrounds only.

I have never had my “auto update “ feature turned on as I want to decide when to update my system..that I paid for. It was sneaky of Sonos to update my app and take away the true play option then telling me to update my speakers to 14.12.

Sonos never forces an update of your app. Either you have app updates set to automatic, or you triggered the update somehow.

App updates are usually set by the mobile device OS - Just as an example see the screenshot attached from an iOS device.
Those sort of choices to update the Sonos App itself, are not really anything to do with Sonos… it’s more likely you (accidentally) left the feature enabled within the controller device OS settings.
The dissatisfied tend to speak louder but as someone who’s happy with the update here is my voice.
Luckily am in the same boat. For curiosity’s sake, I’m going to disable Trueplay to have a listen to the difference. My current set up is Arc + Sub Gen 3

Sorry you are wrong.. I’ve had SONOS for 3 years. Ever room in my house and outside has SONOS. I’ve never had the auto update on as I always listen to what others experience before I do an update. Others have said the same as their phones and such all of a sudden had the update.

I have also no issues here and I’m really baffled when I read that some folks have to adjust the treble to -8. I’m still having everything on 0 (default) and it sounds fine, yes there is a volume difference, but that’s more or less it. Nothing I would have to set treble to -8 for.
Yup, just a volume difference for me. This also depends on the audio source.

Initially I didn’t like the new 14.12 update, however I gave it some time and listened at various volume levels, I am now pretty satisfied. Before 14.12 I found the Arc was too shouty with a fair amount of dialog, midrange, treble harshness and some distortion, dynamics were a mess also unbalanced and unrefined, I was shocked that my beam gen 1 sounded way better, this was driving me mad to the point where Sonos replaced my arc, in the end I sent the replacement back for a full refund then realised I may need to try the arc with the sub as I was comparing the arc with our previous system which was a Yamaha Aventage traditional HT systems, the Aventage series are known for their musicality, refined sound and fidelity so my bias was strong.
We have just moved into a new home so aesthetics are priority meaning no unsightly speaker wires or conduits around the living room and as I’ve been building my Sonos setup over the years I decided to try the arc one last time with the sub, of cause the arc sounded way better paired with the sub but It was still unsatisfactory dynamics were still a messy bumpy and lumpy sounding stage, sounds just rolled along the spectrum unrefined and harsh, several trueplay tunings later with various ios devices, an iPhone 11 delivered the best tuning, still lumpy in dynamics but it was way better than without the sub, then Sonos released 14.12
I was so use to the unrefined arc with 14.10 that I though the update was bad, after some time listening i can honestly say 14.12 presents a better sound profile, music sounds better too even with loudness on which I never used before and didn’t like how it over exaggerated the bass and treble frequencies also I’ve only done 1 trueplay tuning with an iPad Pro 2nd generation with no further adjustments to the EQ and levels, so far I’m pleased, hope it gets better from here on.

And no One’s or One SL’s as surround’s?
No rears, standard UK new build room dimensions and for some magical reason the Arc’s virtual surrounds are very convincing in this house, sounds bounce off our walls as if actual speakers are located in the back or sides, be it slightly diffused but still clearly audible.
People having trouble, make sure you play around with the EQ and check our Peter Pee’s video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7sLAhDXH7A. He does a good breakdown of where the frequency response changed that helps with adjusting EQ accordingly.
I don’t like the new tuning. I found there was too much mid bass/low mids that made voices unaturally boomy and seeming to sit outside the rest of the sound. Peter’s video confirmed this. But I was able to get back to something I find okay by reducing the bass and increasing treble.
BUT I am not currently using a sub despite having one sitting a metre from my TV, which is another whole story.
I think the root of the problem here is the extremely limited EQ options sonos has always given us. TruePlay is using a one-size-fits-all target curve and beyond that we only have the very blunt instrument of bass/treble adjustment. We all have different ears. We all have different preferences for how we like our music and movies to sound.
We DESPERATELY need a more capable 6-8 band EQ. IMO this would solve almost all the issues people had without needing to screw around with the volume spectrum.
This update is incredible. The Arc sounds way better. I can hear dialogue in movies clearly. Sub (had to change level from 0 to +2) still hits but doesn't require me to turn the volume down. We don't change the volume up and down every five minutes any more.
Music sounds way better. The rears are delivering great ambience at default values, and the Arc sounds a lot more wide than before.
We can now listen to podcasts on the Arc. Previously the voices in podcasts were drowning under the low levels, but now it's crystal clear.
This is great. Love the update. Thank you!
While I'm glad Sonos has atleast responded to and acknowledged this issue (albeit not in it's entirety), I still think that this response is an oversimplification of the issue. Simply "turning up the sub audio" does not replicate the output that we had pre 14.12 (even with turning your sub audio and system's overall volume all the way up. Which is also obnoxious and not a sufficient solution for the record). Pre 14.12 I could have my system play at a moderate overall volume, with the sub punching. I cannot replicate the sound profile that I enjoyed pre 14.12 update, no matter how much I revise the settings. I'll add that with the sub audio all the way up (& overall volume extremely high), there appears to be more of a boost to mid bass than to the low end. While the new "sound profile" isn't completely terrible it definitely is different and the old profile can't be replicated by turning up the sub audio. So, as a substantially invested Sonos customer, I do not find this response to be comprehensive or completely accurate. Please give us our Subs back. Perhaps, allow a sound profile option. Just a thought. Thanks!

Are you using the Sub with the Beam or the Ray?
If I wanted a Bose, I would have bought a Bose. Please make this optional or something. Many of us spent thousands of dollars on setups because we liked the way it sounded.
Echoing what others have said. I parted with a considerable amount of money for the arc, sub and surrounds ones because I loved the way they sounded. I’ve been a very happy customer for the past 18 months.
14.2 arrives and the sound profile is totally different and in my view unacceptable for such a high priced bit of kit. If the system sounded like this on day one it would have been boxed up and sent back immediately.
Really not happy that I’ve spent so much money and now the product I have is not the product I bought. I presume the return window will remain well and truly closed for those who really don’t like they way the system sounds now
