Hi Everyone

We moderators of the community - @Corry P@Jamie A & @Sotiris C. - wanted to take an opportunity to explain some of what is currently happening on the community.

First of all, we value all the feedback you are providing about the new Sonos App. We hear you. Feedback is coming in fast and thick, however - for understandable reasons - and to be frank, we are having trouble just keeping up with it all. For this reason, some topics that have not yet been replied to will go unanswered. We will, however, do our best to amalgamate some of these separate threads into bigger, related threads (such as one big thread for Alarm complaints and another for Queue Management) to be answered en-mass. The threads that are feedback on other aspects of the new app will be merged with this post.

Threads that describe issues such as missing rooms and app crashes (those that are not just feedback, in other words) will be answered, as will threads not relating to the new app in anyway, but these will take a bit longer than normal.

Please be aware that we are reading every post, we are recording and collating all feedback, and all of it will be passed over to the app software development team. In addition, we are doing our best to identify previously unidentified issues and report them to our technical teams.

We know many of you are concerned about certain features going missing, so let us take this opportunity to say that the following features are coming back:

  • Alarms management
  • Sleep timers
  • Queue management
  • Playlist editing

In addition and contrary to some speculation, local Music Library is not going anywhere, though SMBv1 support has been permanently removed. Local Music Library searching is something that is still being worked on.

We’d also like to thank everyone who has taken it upon themselves to help others here with their questions and concerns - we appreciate you all!

Thanks for listening - take care of yourselves, and each other.

@Rhonny Update available for Android too. Installing bought the 5.1 kit back on-line, app is now reporting system upto date but still showing old software version for surrounds and sub...

@Ken_Griffiths no SonosNet all Wi-Fi but as above all back with new app for the moment...

Don’t shoot me if this has already been tried, but I had issues updating my surrounds a few firmware updates ago, but after I switched them off for a while and then back on, I was then able to run the update again and it said they needed updating, so I updated them. I know you rebooted the soundbar, but have you rebooted the surrounds and the sub, before trying to run the update again…?

One of the biggest frustrations with the whole thing at the moment is how inconsistent it is. One day searching the local library works, the next day it doesn’t. How can the same app produce such different  results from one day to the next even without app or firmware updates in between

This suggest that the app is using the web every time and some things don’t load properly on some launches

According to this page, in the section further down which has more details around the Local Library functionality, it states that currently local search does need Internet and in a future release will be changed so it doesn’t.

It suggests the current implementation was just added as an additional search source to the existing overarching search functionality so maybe the Internet side is impacting things if it fails or times out.

How about putting out an update to revert back to old app, until such time as you guys get your * together.  Obviously you are alienating your entire community that supported your existence.

“I’ll take ‘Things that are never going to happen’ for $1000, Alex”.

@Ken_Griffiths & @Rhonny They work, the system sees them and thinks there are no updates to apply - they can stay just as they are 😉🤪😂

I just saw the release notes for today’s app update - unusually (?) Sonos has included the release notes for last week’s firmware update too. Interesting for those having volume control issues, amongst other things:

80.05.07 (Android)
80.05.05 (iOS)

Release date: 7/31/2024

In this update:

  • Improves stability when adding new products
  • Addresses an issue where the app used excess phone battery

We’ve also released firmware version 80.1-55172 for Sonos products which contains the following changes:

  • Improves responsiveness of volume changes
  • Improves time to add a new song to the queue in certain conditions
  • Addresses an issue with local library browsing timing out

Hmmmm interesting, I am still seeing laggy volume response on older Play:1 speakers (single and stereo pair)...

Spoke too soon, 5.1 speakers keep dropping out of system, reboot of play bar re-introduces but app now back to:

Full rebooting no effect and PC continues to fail updates on surrounds and not reporting fail on sub!

One step forward, 2 back - 💩💩💩💩 and 💩!

Confirm all above re new bits. Android is now at 80.05.07, library a bit more responsive but still no solution to floating placeholders for favs & recents. Have carried out total power off/on in sequence as suggested but they just pop off after 5 secs, guess a work in progress as there quite a few android models.

It might account for your sluggish volume controls too. It’ll take you 10 minutes max unbond-update-rebond the players - so I’d do that. You may then never see the problem again.🤞 Nothing ventured…

@Ken_Griffiths a) Shouldn't have to and b) So many reports of being unable to re-onboard/configure speakers after such things that, atm, I am just not willing to risk loosing my 5.1 simply to get a firmware/app update that from what I've seen so far gives me nothing - apart from lost speakers that is!!?

Already spent 3 hours trying to get an app update - ffs! -working, NOT acceptable 🤬

Oh and I've seen sluggish volume controls since day one of this fiasco, just don't believe this release will fix it and even if it does/is supposed to, I should not have to re-configure my system to make it happen!!!!

@User117655,

I’ve not seen issues with volume controls with the new Sonos App by the way. My own gripe is that it takes 5 seconds for music to start playing after I hit the ’play’ button in my preferred music service (Amazon Music). 1st world problems, I know ha ha.

Now, if Sonos can make those things happen quicker I’d be a happy chap, but volume has always behaved itself in my own setup, even with every speaker/room grouped and I consider it as an ‘above average’ sized system (although maybe not as many devices as @AjTrek1 is perhaps using 😀)?

I understand, from what others mention though, volume adjustment/control may all depend on the connection to the Sonos Cloud - my Home ISP provides a mere 100 MB/s upload, but a fairly decent 1GB/s download, so maybe that’s why I haven’t seen the volume issues some mention. I have also tried to get all my players onto the faster 5Ghz WiFi band, where available/practical, with decent SNR levels, so that has possibly helped with responsive volume control too.

i did a recording earlier this evening and it all seems to be quite ‘responsive’, so can we perhaps move on and make the Amazon (& other) services ‘play’ buttons a bit quicker and the ‘playback options’ screen (play now/next/add to end of queue etc.) popup show faster. I would like to see that happen before the queue management features, but I guess I’m probably alone, or in a minority for those things to happen sooner, rather than later.

System iterating around lost.5.1 speakers, no/unable to check for updates and now lost volume control from linked remote... 5.1 (play bar, play 1's and sub) requiring constant reboots and consequently now approaching unusable after this weeks update(s)...

@Ken_Griffiths I'd like to keep speakers working between updates and see my content from the app full stop... NOTHING wrong with my ISP speeds or consistency/reliability...

I can only add I’ve made some suggestions in order to try to help you, both now and on some previous occasions too, but it’s always entirely a matter for you. I’ll leave you decide. I hope you manage to get things sorted. 👍

Well that certainly explains why local search might be so intermittent. It's still “buggy” though - I have a very fast internet connection and wi-fi 6e so there’s not really any excuse for the search facility not loading fully to include the local library, especially when the Plex library i set up while this debacle continues searches fine every time

I upgraded this morning to 80.1.55240. Being that my version number is higher than version 55172, mentioned above, is it incorporated in my upgrade? Because I do notice the volume controls being more responsive.

Feedback

After the app and system update of the past 24 hours, I thought I'd re-add my library to Sonos. Unfortunately, the displaying of all of the tracks on Various Artists albums as individual albums still persists and it's not possible to play them. This problem only appeared about 3 weeks ago, not after the initial release of the app.

The Plex result in the app shows the album correctly.

@RJSUK probably want to keep an eye on this thread for the compilation issue. It occurred after the 16.3 firmware update rather than an app update. Unfortunately there is no eta for a fix at the moment.

Seem to have lost line in list from my sources with the new Android release too, which is annoying:

Across 3 Android devices, all the usual tricks tried...

@User117655,

If it’s across all your Android controller devices and you have issues getting your Sonos products updated etc. has it not occurred to you that there might be local network issues in your case. I’ve just fired up my Android tablet and the line-in sources (both of them) are showing in my setup. Your controller screens look like they’re having communication difficulties. Have you spoken (at any point) to Sonos Support?

I’m not going to suggest things here, as I know you don’t want to take the advice onboard, but at the very least speak to Sonos Support, that’s if you have not tried that already.

I’ve attached a recording from a few moments ago of what I see in my own setup - please excuse the Android wallpaper - I really must change that at some point.

Windows Desktop Controller and Android Devices.

Still no progress on Manage\Add a Radio Station.  I am still unable to add a ‘custom radio station’ via the Windows desktop controller\Manage\Add a Radio Station.

The pop up box states (see image below) ‘The new radio station will be added to TuneIn > My Radio Stations’, but of course the TuneIn (old) service is no longer available and so the station does not get added.

I have searched in my services - TuneIn (new), My Tuner, Radioplayer and Sonos Radio for the custom station but it’s not listed so I am stuffed.

Please restore this functionality, it’s important to me.

Add a Radio Station

@User117655,

I understand, from what others mention though, volume adjustment/control may all depend on the connection to the Sonos Cloud.

I don’t think so. What I am seeing is the volume sliders require a very precise finger movement, and require good target practice. You must touch the ‘dots’ exactly and then slide. If you have a small screen and/or screen protector (affecting touch sensitivity) and/or big fingers adjusting volume can be cumbersome without some practice/muscle memory.

A better approach would be what Apple do with their volume slider in Apple Music, you can touch anywhere along the slider and slide left/right to adjust volume.

For now though you can just tap up or down on the slider line to increase or decrease the volume by one increment at a time.
