We moderators of the community - @Corry P, @Jamie A & @Sotiris C. - wanted to take an opportunity to explain some of what is currently happening on the community.
First of all, we value all the feedback you are providing about the new Sonos App. We hear you. Feedback is coming in fast and thick, however - for understandable reasons - and to be frank, we are having trouble just keeping up with it all. For this reason, some topics that have not yet been replied to will go unanswered. We will, however, do our best to amalgamate some of these separate threads into bigger, related threads (such as one big thread for Alarm complaints and another for Queue Management) to be answered en-mass. The threads that are feedback on other aspects of the new app will be merged with this post.
Threads that describe issues such as missing rooms and app crashes (those that are not just feedback, in other words) will be answered, as will threads not relating to the new app in anyway, but these will take a bit longer than normal.
Please be aware that we are reading every post, we are recording and collating all feedback, and all of it will be passed over to the app software development team. In addition, we are doing our best to identify previously unidentified issues and report them to our technical teams.
We know many of you are concerned about certain features going missing, so let us take this opportunity to say that the following features are coming back:
Alarms management
Sleep timers
Queue management
Playlist editing
In addition and contrary to some speculation, local Music Library is not going anywhere, though SMBv1 support has been permanently removed. Local Music Library searching is something that is still being worked on.
We’d also like to thank everyone who has taken it upon themselves to help others here with their questions and concerns - we appreciate you all!
Thanks for listening - take care of yourselves, and each other.

The app is still dreadful, classic lipstick on a pig since May 7th last year.
Still, now that I’ve replaced most of my Sonos gear with Bluesound items, all that worry has gone! Back to enjoying my music…
Seriously, I will never forgive them for how they punished my many years of loyalty. They deserve to go bust.
@Flattliner I tend to agree but finances prohibit a switch at the moment when they do I will switch. Meanwhile, and as a UK user since day 1, no more Sonos equipment will cross my threshold... ever ever again.
I'll stop short of failure for Sonos but I sincerely hope Spence is never employed in any capacity again. If he is then it is a flag for an upcoming product failure, loss of user confidence and dropping market share/share price. Also a heads up for users of whatever product it may be to ditch the now doomed items he is involved with - it'll only be a matter of time... !
I have some pretty long music queues in my Sonos Playlists. One problem that just bothers me is when I know there is a song in a particular queue and I scroll down and eventually find it and start playing it, I know there are similar songs are in that same area all relating to the same composer. For example, last evening I was watching TV and I heard Lacrimosa from Mozart’s Requiem, so I grabbed my Living Room iPad and scrolled down the list about 325 songs and found it. Started playing it, but wanted to adjust the volume. As soon as you get out of the queue and do something, the IOS app always loses your place in the queue and takes to right back to the top. And you have to start scrolling down all over again to find your place in the queue. So once you leave that playlist view and do anything, you have to search all over again. I really hope they fix this issue. Sonos probably doesn’t even know this problem exists. I never had this problem with the older app. Plus, I wish the search option would work with the existing queue and not search the entire list of tracks that are somewhere on my NAS drive. I just want it to find a particular song in the current queue that I have open.
@John Guarr
Yes, the queue always going back to its top and not staying at the currently playing song isn’t funny. I hope that already is on Sonos to do list.

I just noticed that sitting at my Windows PC and using the Sonos Controller App, it doesn’t lose your place in the queue. I just purchased the version of Lacrimosa from iTunes and reindexed my music library and added it where I left off in the Living Room last evening and by selecting Play Next and using the Save option at the bottom, saved the playlist to the same name. Then I checked all the room’s playlists, and it took me to all the songs that I was last playing in those respective rooms. So, if the PC Controller can do this maybe there’s hope. So, Moderators, if your listening, please forward this issue to the appropriate department. Much thanks.

The Sonos Trello board (about the only place Sonos is still communicating their app fix plans) does not have this as something coming soon or something they are working on. A-Z scrolling is listed as coming soon so they haven’t completely given up on bringing back usability features like these ones. SonoPhone supports these features by the way. it’s inexcusable that Sonos controller doesn’t.

Thank you for sharing that. I was thinking of purchasing SonoPad, but wasn’t sure if it supported this and I didn’t know who to ask. So if I purchased the SonoPhone or SonoPad, would it find my playlists that I already have had for the past 10 years or so? Would I lose any functionality? Thank you, John
To be fair… Sonos desktop controllers and any 3rd party controller work like old s2 mobile app did. The new Sonos mobile controllers for iOS and Android have been coded completely new and work different. So you can’t compare it with other controller apps. Any little feature has to be programmed again for new s2 plattform and that indeed takes some efforts, time and sometimes there may be technical difficulties.

That is a fair assessment. I’m waiting for a reply on SonoPad/SonoPhone and I might give that a try.
How far the mighty have fallen. Went to the local Dump today. They have a small lean to they call the Cottonwood Mall. It’s where folks take stuff they no longer have a use for. Found two Sonos speakers someone had dropped off. I still have hope (And $2,500.00 worth of speakers) so I grabbed them just in case Sonos decides to get their s*** together) Going on a year guys. Turned on my computer this morning and Sonos wouldnt let me do anything till I installed the update. So…..I did. After which it took a full 5 minutes for my speakers to come on in two rooms. Maybe I shold have left them and dropped my off as well. Sono, you use to be the best. Now you’re a laughing stock and Dump fodder. Pretty sad..
As that’s the official Sonos community imo it’s not the right place to talk /discuss about or even recommend 3rd party controller software in general. But just speaking about my own experiences I can tell you that I bought SonoPhone, gave it a try and decided to leave it alone. Yes, it works for controlling music playback but there is no system management possible and the UI really seems old fashioned to me. But again a yes… if you are having issues using new S2 app it might be an alternative. Try and decide yourself…
I’ve always enjoyed listing to my Sonos equipment during the years and because of medical reasons and in and out of my local hospital with various brain issues. I mention this because after whatever they do to me, either replacing one of my head shunts, or address my seizure issues, when I come home, I can’t think right and I’m in a fog for a while. Back last May, my music went completely dead, and eventually found out about the SMB1 issue, which was my problem. All my music had been stored on a WD Passport drive hanging off one of the ports on the back of my router, which was working great for years. Both iTunes and Sonos were pointing to this drive. I eventually moved all my music onto a WD MyCloud and managed to get everything back, but not 100 per cent, but okay. I’ve never had the problems with speakers completely disappearing and long latency problems that a lot of users mention. Maybe because my system is not as complicated and some, and I have everything stored locally and don’t subscribe to music services, and don’t use Sonos alarms. I own my own music. Just the way an older, retired Network Engineer thinks. My only issue is that the only way I can save a song or two into one of my playlists, is to use my Windows PC Controller app and do it there. And the other main problem that is driving me more crazy, is losing my place in a long playlist and constantly being taken to the top of the queue. I’m sure you have heard me mention this many times. I just sent an email off of SonoPad’s support to see if they work like this and as soon as I hear back from them, if I get a good response, I may purchase their app. I don’t need a cloud based music player to control my locally stored music and I think Sonos is going in that direction. Plus, I don’t think they are even aware of this problem and as someone mentioned recently, have no plans on fixing it. So there is no sense to keep waiting for something that’s not going to happen.

It’s not a fair assessment imo because the app was complete trash when they released it and it’s inexcusable that they did this. They gave zero care to us owners and the years long impact this has had on our use of our systems. To say they need to program all these things again is such BS, it should have never happened. It’s been 12 months and we still don’t have what we paid for.
SonoPhone tracks the currently playing track in the queue. It has A-Z fast scrolling. It’s been in the App Store for many years. If you aren’t happy with it I hear the developer will refund your money, but do check with him first ymmv. If you have specific questions I can try to answer. This is on topic to the Sonos Community, but a separate thread might get you better responses than I can provide.

I almost feel guilty agreeing about the UI for Sonophone as it’s functionality is fantastic for what it does i.e. it allows you to play your music the way the Sonos app USED to do - and it’s only £3.99! As well as the other Sonos app issues around playlists and queues there’s also no ridiculous 100 track limit on imported playlists from a music library. This has been a known issue on the Sonos app for months (if not ever since the May update) but there seems no part of the roadmap that fixes it.
I do wish they would change the Sonophone UI though.

I downloaded and installed the SonoPad app about two hours ago. I played around with it and I like the icons for the room, etc. It even gives me an icon for my Sonos Connect in the Living Room and shows my Sonos Beam and two surround speakers. I can’t believe it found all my Sonos equipment and has all my playlists. Very impressive. After that I had to run some errands. I just walked in the door, saw your post and tapped on the Sono icon. Took me right back to the songs in each room that I was playing when I left. I’m very happy about that, since that was my main gripe. It has a save button along the bottom, which was another of my gripe, but I expected that, since how can you have a music app without a Save option? The only thing I wish it wouldn’t do is turn my entire iPad in Landscape mode. I emailed Stefan to see if there is a way to change that. But overall, I really think I’m going to like using this app. I don’t need to be constantly checking in with Sonos for updates that never include missing features.
One more thing, it also displays all my album art making it real easy to find a certain tracks as I scroll down my playlists. And I just checked my Beam and surround speakers and all appears to be okay.
I've bought a new ipad mini 7 and in the Now Playing screen, doesn't fill all the screen. I had previously an Android tablet and the Now Playing was full screen.
It would be interesting have this option, to see the artwork full screen in the ipad.

Yes, I have both a regular iPad and a mini and the Now Playing window does not fill the screen.

Just for general info in case you are interested, I have been using the SonoPad app and find it very interesting. I like the fact that it keeps my place in the music Playlist and doesn’t take you back to the top every time you scroll down 150 tracks or so (which has always been my main complaint), plus the Now Playing window is half the iPad screen. I also like that as you scroll in a playlist in the SonoPad app, it shows the album art instead of those 8th notes like the Sonos IOS app does, making it easier to find songs as your scrolling down. Like I said, I have been using the SonoPad app since last week and am very happy with it. The only thing I don’t like about the app is that the code was written for landscape mode, so it always turns my iPads sideways, even though I have it locked not to rotate, but overall, I am sticking with SonoPad. I don’t use music services so I can’t speak for how it handles that, and I don’t use alarms, except for Alexa, which works fine. And the search doesn’t search the current playlist you are in to find a particular song; you have to scroll for it manually. But so doesn’t the Sonos app. And as I mentioned, in the SonoPad app, the Now Playing window is larger and takes up half the screen if you don’t mind your iPad going into landscape mode. There is no way of getting around that, I got a response back from Stefan, who I think runs the company and wrote the code for the app, I hope this helps.
And I just don’t know if I should continue to do firmware updates, since Stefan suggests to continue using the Sonos Windows controller. So that is a little confusing. I don’t want to exceed the limits of the already written code for the SonoPad app.
If my sonos Era 100 actually stayed connected to my wifi more than 30 mins I would be able to be more detailed about just how bad your app is. However, having had the device for 3 days now I have to say I’m giving up. The app grabs control of the device to the point I have to restart the phone to get music to play. The setup process locked up and didn’t complete. The app seems not to recognise the device half the time. I can tell this is good hardware with shocking software. It’s such a pity your hardware teams have been let down so badly.

Would you happen to have this setting selected in your phones settings?:

You cannot use the Sonos app if you don’t have internet signal, or in this case if the Sonos hardware does not have internet line signal!
@Matiasdosreis
Correct. Just like you can’t use the bathroom taps when there is no water supply.
One of the other reasons (of many) I would never want to switch to the S2 version of the app. Internet goes out a lot in the part of Colombia SA where I live, and the S1 app lets me play and control all my local music perfectly when the internet goes out. Just wish that what ever little Sonos programming employees are left with the company would put a switch in Settings to NOT check for new S2 version of the app. Luckily I have Home Assistant so I do not have to see that “Upgrade to S2” message very often.
So is that the S1 app made by Sonos if I were to download it I the Apple App Store? For the last couple of weeks I’ve been using the SonoPad app on my iPad. It remembers where I am in the long playlists that I have and doesn’t take me back up to the top, and it has a Save button along the bottom to when I want to re-save to a playlist after adding a new song or rearranging the playlist. I can’t remember, does your S1 app remember your place in the playlist, which is my major gripe and concern?

It won’t work for your One, One SL, or Beam… It’s the app for old Sonos kit only, like your Play:1.
