What to get

From what I have read the sonos speakers have a good reputation, sorry if my questions seem daft but I am after a dab+ radio that is compatable alongside the speakers. I am looking for a radio that not only can be used on the internet but also one that can be used on it's own ( in case the internet goes down) I would like to have the radio in say , the bedroom and then have sonos speakers in say, the kitchen and lounge playing the same music , so that my wife can have music all around the house,( I suppose a multi room system) , but if I am going to have decent speakers I would then like a decent radio to go with them. I don't think sonos make a radio as such but suggest plugging into a current one, whereasI would like a seperate set up.

Hi l have a sonos that l haven't used for about 2 years. I have tried to use it and there's now nothing. I have a small white box thing with a button with two arrows on. I have a slightly larger box with a mute button, and then volume button. The light on this is a solid yellow/orange colour. I then have two black speakers both have a solid white light. My app says there is no system connected. Please help as l do t know what to do 😞

Having a birthday party in a banquet hall. It seats about 250 (have no measurements). One big room. Dance floor on one side which is about a third of the room but want to setup music throughout. I have 3 Play:1s now. I know this isn't a lot of info to go on, but I wanted to add to my setup and hope for the best. I was thinking of taking the 3 Play:1s and using them for the back wall and two side walls. For the dance floor area, should I purchase a single Play:3 (mono) or two more Play:1s and put them in stereo mode? I can't do two Play:3s in stereo so don't go there. 🙂 Any other suggestions? Hey all - has anyone had experience mounting a Play 3 from the ceiling, whether on a hard mount or flown from ceiling rafters? I have not found a mount that would make this possible, but I'd love to do this on a restaurant install... Thanks!

Hi folks I have 41 sqm kitchen/diner and thinking about getting a pair of Play 3 to set up as stereo.. What I am trying to understand before putting an order – will a pair of Play 3s be enough for this area or I better consider two Play 5s instead (or a single Play 5)? Another question about positioning… I am thinking about putting them under the ceiling (I‘ve heard it is better to put speakers on ear level but I have two small kinds constantly running around and it is currently not an option..) above glass doors – marked with red circles with number 1 on the pic, or in the middle of the room one opposite each other - marked with green circles with number 2. A guy in the shop said positioning at green spots will be better as it will be in the middle of the room and so the sound will be more even however I am not sure how (and if) stereo will work in this case.. I never had a hifi music set up before and quite a novice in this area so any advice is welcome! Many thanks

Threatening to slowly brick my expensive speakers if I don't accept your heavy handed new 'terms' is a complete load of crap. I paid for this and it should continue to work even if I don't opt-in to whatever crazy policy you decide to do in the future. I used to recommend sonos to everyone and that will now certainly stop. What would I tell them? Hey here's a great system but it wants to spy on you and if you're not cool with that it'll stop working entirely... Hi! I have now owned the play 5 for a couple a weeks and I like it a lot, but I didn't realized how good it was until I moved it to a smaller room in my house. The bass really come out and the sound quality was amazing. However, in my kitchen/dining/living room which is over 60 sqm (645 sqf) its closer to mediocre in terms of sound quality. The high's and mids are still decent but the bass is pretty much non existens, especially over 50 % volume. And I often need to raise the volume to over 90 % to fill the room with music. It seems like its going to be more expensive then I thought to get a rich sound in such a big room. I don't want to return the play 5 since I love the usability and the sound quality when in smaller rooms, but I feel like I need to to something because of the size of my main living area where most of my listening is happening. Either add a sub or another play 5? I thing it depends a lot of the layout of the room which you can see below. Here's my floor p

I'm looking into options for a sound system in a large bar/restaurant that hasn't been built yet. Have full control over the network, construction, wiring, etc. We'll have a lot of TVs (10-15), we'll likely be in control of the music as opposed to the customers. At home, I have a Playbar and 3 One's. I've used the Three + Five before. My home setup is wireless and sometime cuts out in a very obnoxious way. So I have a few questions: 1.) If everything is wired via ethernet, will that solve the problems of sync/cutting out between speakers? 2.) Is there a way to disable remote access to the devices if I want to keep it ethernet ONLY. 3.) Is there a way to broadcast sound without the controller app? Like.. via an audio jack/phone? 4.) How well does the controlled sound projection work in large spaces? I'd consider using fewer Sonos devices as opposed to many JBL speakers at lower volume if the sound leveled out. I have a projector, PlayStation, turntable, and Apple TV hooked into a receiver via HDMI. Is there a product that will allow me to use my Sonos network as the audio for all of this?

I'm aware that Sonos doesn't natively support WMA lossless, and due to processing power and/or licensing issues probably never will. However, I own a large-ish collection in that format (about 60% of a library of around 12,000 songs, the remainder are lossy from my wife's collection), and several media players whose preferred format is WMA lossless, including the three rooms where I have sufficient quality amplification and speakers for the difference to be noticeable. I'm interested in using the Sonos Connect (probably a few of them) to feed my Niles Auriel multi-room system, and in the rooms this will be used for largely don't matter if I'm using 320 kbps MP3 or a lossless format. So, I'm wondering if there's a method of transcoding on the fly and feeding it to Sonos, or would using Sonos and keeping WMA lossless for other locations mean that I'd have to maintain two separate libraries? I have Pro-Ject RPM 1.3 Gen and a Pro-Ject Stereo Box S Phono. I want to start streaming music via Spotify or Apple Music as well as playing records using RPM 1.3, if I bought the Player 5 would I still use the Stereo Box?

Hi guys, I've been following Sonos for a while, and ever since I experienced a Sonos setup in a vacation home 2 years ago, I always wanted to have my own setup. Since I'm currently still living at home with my parents, I don't actually have any of them installed (since they don't want me to thinker with too many tech stuff 😛 ), but I'm planning to start building my own house next year. We're already in the floorpan drawing phase. In this stage I want to start planning outlets and network cabling etc already, so I can be prepared for all this stuff. Enough with the talk around, my first question is: Based on my floorpan, what do you recommend me to get for the entire open space (being kitchen, living room and TV corner). I was planning for the TV corner to be equipped with a PlayBar later on (or playbase, depending on how we actually plan the cabling etc there). For the kitchen and living room I would think 2 PLAY:3s would be good, 1 at each side of the room, or should I

So I think I'm going to take the plunge and invest in a Sonos setup as our little one is getting to the crawling stage and grabbing at everything within reaching distance lol. I'm thinking less wires the better! I'll pack my Denon/Klipsch 5.1 system away for now until I can dedicate a media room to it. We are currently in an 1100 square foot apartment and our living/kitchen area is somewhat long and narrow. My initial thoughts are to purchase the playbase as it will sit nicely on the mantle (14.5" wide). I would then mount my 55" LED TV above it. Our mantle is a bit high (4') and viewing distance only 10' away so I prefer the lower profile of the playbase vs the playbar as this will enable me to mount the TV as low down as possible. I would then also purchase the sub and 2 play 1's to use as surrounds. This may be over kill for my apartment, and I fully understand it probably won't match my current setup, but not wanting to be disappointed in the sound and wanting a 5.1 exp

I am looking to add Sonos to my existing setup so that I can extend the sound of my tv/stereo setup around my apartment without wires. And maybe play music in different rooms, but that's secondary. Existing setup: various inputs (cable box, Wii, Apple TV) feed into a Marantz receiver. HDMI goes from the receiver to the TV. Sound is driven by the receiver (currently stereo, connected to the receiver with speaker wire and a subwoofer). I would like to put Sonos speakers out and have them play the same thing that my receiver is playing through the stereo speakers. The receiver has a pre-amp L/R out as well as L/R audio in. Could I connect a Sonos Connect to both the in and out audio ports and then add Sonos speakers? When my TV is on, the Sonos would take the signal and spread it to the speakers. If I want to use Sonos to play music, the Connect would be the input into my receiver. Would that work? Thanks in advance.

So, I'm seriously considering getting into the Sonos family with a Playbase... I know it might not be the best entry system but since I got a new TV and I also need a music system it'd be the one that suits best my needs. Now my problem is that I also own a MacMini as a media center and would like both TV and Mac to work together with the Sonos. After reading some other threads around here I came up with the following setup which I'm not sure it'll work: TV (Samsung UE55MU6105) connected to Sonos through optical cable. (Watching TV / Netflix + Others sorted out) MacMini connected to the TV through Jack to components (RCA) (TV does not have optical nor standard jack input). Cable as image below. The idea is that audio from the MacMini will be output from the TV speakers and, because TV is connected to the Sonos through optical audio, it also outputs from the Sonos. We've a roof terrace, completely open to the elements we occasionally use for entertaining/BBQs etc... however, as we have no music up there, find ourselves migrating to a smaller downstairs balcony. The upstairs terrace is big but it's only a 4.5mx4.5m area I'm looking to bring music to. I'm debating whether to get a single Play:5 or a couple of Play:1s to take up and use when needed. My concern is the space and how the sound will project. As I say, its an open roof terrace with a glass guardrail - so no corners to stick a unit in and project from there. Does anyone have any thoughts as to how well a Play:5 or stereo Play:1s would fill an empty space? Obviously, a Play:5 is more convenient as its one speaker to shift around but is one sound source sufficient - or would 2 lesser powered Play:1s do a better job as these can be separated to increase the soundstage?

Do I need a bridge with any sonos

I have a Denon receiver, 2 front speakers, a center speaker as well as the rear speakers and sub woofer. I'm trying to get away from having to run speaker wire to the receiver, as well as making it easier to connect with out the receiver. I don't have a dedicated Home Theatre room, just a living room. Is Sonos a good choice for home theatre? Thanks.

I have a Sonos system set up in my home with my music library stored on my PC. I have recently set up a second system at the cottage and I've been running it from my music library on my phone. The problem is that it's hard on my phone battery and a little wonky if you travel in and out of wifi range. What I'd like to do is run the cottage system off of a thumb drive so that it is easy to keep up to date and works independently without a cel phone. I scoured the internet looking for a way to do this and found previous posts (old) that recommended the Cirago NUS1000 as a way to make this happen; however, it appears that this hardware is no longer available. Does anyone have another suggestion that will work? There may be other pieces of hardware that will do something similar to the Cirago NUS1000 but I hate to be the guinea pig to try it. I'm hoping someone else has done this successfully.

I'd like to buy a used SUB from someone on Craigslist, but I'm not sure how to check and make sure it's actually working. Any ideas other than a visual inspection? Is there any test mode where I can hold down the power button or something like that? I suspect it's fine but wanna make sure I'm not getting a borked unit and that's the reason he's selling.

Hi All, I currently have a Playbar with two Play:1s and a Sonos sub in the living room. The Playbar does not fit in the room (it looks ugly), so we want to move it and buy a white Playbase instead. My question is will the Playbase be as good as the Playbar? We use a projector so there is no TV. I read some reviews that the Playbase has a hard treble which makes it more unsuitable than the Playbar. Is that true or is the sound quality the same? Thank you. JD

I move into an new place with 6 in-ceiling speakers and I also have a Play 5. Attached is the picture of the wires for the 6 speakers. I've been scratched my head for integrating those two types of speakers. The goal is to have a system that I can play streaming music, movie from my laptop or TV channels. Any suggestion?
