What to get

Hi, My father is a die-hard fan of the Logitech Squeezebox duet, which, unfortunately, we haven't been able to find a replacement for - the fact that you have several physical controllers that you can use in different rooms isn't something i have seen in other systems (here, first floor, ground floor, basement) - and carrying around around the mobile to control via app is not an option (he is older, but frankly I wouldn't myself want to carry around my mobile each and every time I want to switch music). Main use case is online radio. In brief, I just wanted to ask what components I need if I want the following set up: - input (here, Logitech Squeezebox, but could be anything really) via optical or cinch, which connects into the Sonos device (how is that signal then transmitted further to the other speakers? Do I need some form of amp to 'transmit' the signal?) - ability to use headphones (I understand you would need to have a bluetooth transmitter connected to the 'aux output

Hi, I have just bought a Beam which has replaced my 2.1 wired speaker set-up (wires didn't look good for my new place). I am wondering whether I should get the Sub next or two Ones next? It is generally used for regular TV, listening to music and Netflix. Pretty rare that we watch movies. Thanks!

I'm trying to decide what I should get. Some background: I already have a Google home mini. I would like to use voice command for the new Sonos speaker I will get. I'm debating between One and Play 1 because I have heard the Sonos One doesn't seem to have the best mic to pick up your voice and Echo dot seems to be superior in that regard. However, a big negative thing with Echo dot and Play 1 is that I always have to say: Play X on "living room" etc. Haha I know its not the end of the world. 😉 But I guess when I have more Sonos devices that's something I need to do any way? (specify which speaker to play from) Unless I want the whole house to play in a group? 1) Play 1 and one Echo dot Or another route 2) Sonos One What would be the pros and cons for alternative 1 and 2? I guess what I'm trying to say, what are the disadvantages to go route 1 except that you have two devices(more extra space)?

Hi! I just bought some old and used Bowers and Wilkins speakers (DM302). I have heard them myself because I bought them online but watched some videos and it sounded very good. A few weeks ago I listened for the first time to a Play 1 speaker and was blown away by the sound quality. So my questions are, how will the sound be with these B & W compared to let's say two Sonos One/Play 1? I know that it might not be fair to compare this but how would the two B & W in stereo be compared to one Sonos One?

I just purchased a two story home, the house is prewired with Ethernet and coax, but no speakers. I will probably be doing the speaker wiring myself, but that's not the concern here. I have a few questions with the hypothetical setup, or if you guys can recommend a different better way to approach this would be phenomenal. My current setup: I have a Yamaha RX### that has 7.2 powered channels with a powered zone 2. 5.1 of those channels are fed to my floor standing speakers and sub, 2.0 channels are fed to my outside patio speakers. I would like to keep this same setup in the living room of the new home. My same Yamaha receiver has two hdmi outputs that I use to feed my main living room TV and patio TV to play the same content. My Yamaha receiver has party mode, which allows me to play the same sound on all speakers. I have an old surround sound system but need to change and was looking at a Sonos system where I could gradually add on speakers But am not sure how it all works with my TV and iptv system I was looking at a Sonos Beam with two Sonos one speakers Can anybody give me advice please Thank you

Can anyone tell me if I can pair two Play:1 in order to get a better stereo image with the power of a Play:5? Do you think this will work? Should the five be a mono central speaker? Thanks in advance I'm a total newbie :$:)

Hi guys, first post here. I’m considering changing the setup in my lounge but wondering just how good the Play ONE can sound in a pair? I currently have a Play:1 in the office, a Play ONE in the bedroom, Connect in the lounge ( going into Cyrus amp, CA DAC and PSB speakers) and Play:3 in the garage. I’m considering the change more for practical reasons as my current system sounds very good. Just wondering how a pair of ONE’s may compare to the Connect and Cyrus/PSB setup. Or would adding another Play:3 and pairing them be a better option? Thanks in advance

Hi all, I own a project turntable that I'm running through an AV amp on my living room to 2 X monitor audio RX6s. I'm look to "Sonos" up my life! In the living room I plan to swap the AV amp for a Beam, and eventually upgrade with a sub & 2x Play:1s (maybe on black Friday!). The question I have is that I plan to move the turntable to our dinning room. It's a 11' X 15' room. One of the key features I'm looking for is that I don't need to turn the speakers or "amp" on, and that they start playing automatically when I play the turntable (which probably negates a Sonos Connect and dedicated Amp). Either way I'll be getting a pre amp but the choice I now have to make is below. I welcome your thoughts, comments or any other suggestions...

I’ve connected a record player to a play 5 in one room, when I play the records in other rooms as well it gets a little choppy occasionally, cutting out slightly. My speakers are connected on sonosnet but I was wondering if I get a boost as well will it help?

Looking @ gifting a pair of Play 3's in my small living room that I use w/ my PlayBar to my son. Should I wait ? months to see what/if the Play 3 gets replaced with or go w/ a pair of Sonos One's? FWIW I've had a pair of One's in my bedroom w/ a BEAM since last July & they sound good, so what's the collective's wisdom here?

The recommendation in the Home Theatre Megathread is that "depending upon size of room" you can use Play:1 and even Play 5 for rear effects. But considering what they do as rear effect speakers, and where they are typically placed (behind you when watching the movie), is there a need for a more "basic" and (dare I say it) lower-cost speaker to meet this need? I know they can be set to "full range" so they also play music, but the placement of the speaker for rear effects is probably wrong when listening to stereo music.

I have a traditional yamaha receiver and 2 beautiful polk floor speakers. I would like to add surround sound to my setup and have the rear speakers fill the living room with audio when listening to music. I love my floor speakers, but i would like more. What should I buy? Connect with 2 play 1s or 3s? Is the playbar overkill for a center channel for surround sound?

I am trying to find the best (affordable) way to integrate Sonos with my already pre-wired family room sound system. What I have: - 2 rear speakers (pre-wired but not installed yet) with wall volume control. - 2 patio speakers (pre-wired but not installed yet) with wall volume control. - All cabling for these speakers running under TV - 2 Sonos Play 1's in other areas of the house. - Onkyo dual zone stereo receiver. What I want: - The ability to play music via Sonos to all 4 in-wall speakers in family room and patio. And other Play 1's. - The ability to hear my TV sound coming out of all 4 in-wall speakers as well as other Play 1's. My thoughts: - Connect the 4 in wall speakers (family room & patio) to my current stereo receiver. Also connect my TV's digital audio out to that stereo receiver as well. My roomate is moving out of the country at the end of the semester and is selling his Sonos Play:1 for what looks like a good price. Are there different generations of Sonos Play:1 and the latest models are somehow better than the old ones? Or are the firmwares updated on a regular basis via wireless for all Sonos Play:1? I want to make sure this is not instead a crappy deal. What system would you recommend if I want to add stereo? This is mostly to play music from Spotify/Pandora/Playlist from my computer and then ideally sound for Sports games from TV. Should I get a second Play:1? And do I need one of those amp/Connect product? I am not sure the difference. Lastly, is the Sonos One a better product? I don't need that Alexa stuff. Thanks. Kevin

Hi. I currently have a Synology Nas with movies and music stored, connected via the router to a Pioneer receiver. Music is played in the living room via the receiver and KEF speakers, and a ropey Phillips IPod dock speaker in the kitchen which connects to the Nas. I want to upgrade and play music throughout the house. I have not been able to confidently find the answer to the question that has been troubling me. To access and play my music from my Nas through the Kefs in the living room and a Sonos 1,3 or 5 in the kitchen, do I need a Connect ? Will the music sync ? If so, then I might be better off getting a Play 5 for the living room ! Many thanks in advance James

Hello to everyone, In order to take advantage of Airplay 2 in my set up I am thinking of using an Apple TV to send sound via Airplay 2 to a Beam Bar with surrounds and sub. I am using a beamer, that would avoid having a HDMI cable from back to front. My question is: does using Airplay 2 for movies enables 5.1 with surrounds sound balance when sent to a Beam or Playbase?

Hi, I already own 2*sonos one and one Play 5 gen 2 and want to setup the living room with great sound. The room is pretty open but with 2 walls. And different roof height. Will not use the setup for the TV just music. I was thinking that I might add one Play 5 and the Sub. What do you guys think about that setup, any other suggestions or if that setup is bad? Hi, I have quite old tech (zoneplayer s5 & bridge) and am looking to extend the setup. I have 2 questions: 1. is it true I can only connect play:5 gen1 to my current setup (but not the gen 2 play:5)? 2. can I add a sub and playbar to my current setup? Thanks Paul

I recently bought two ones and am really enjoying them but for me they lack bass a little. I listen to dub reggae and bass heavy electronic music the most (child of the nineties ex jaded raver ;)) I’m thinking about getting the sub. Now I know this is going to add some ooomph but how much? I’m aware of my neighbours and don’t want to annoy them all the time (just some) sooo how effective is the sub at low volume as well as high! Will I still notice the extra depth at low volumes?

I currently live in a pretty small (540 sq ft) studio apartment and am going to make the leap into the Sonos world. I'm currently torn between getting a single Play 5, two Sonos Ones, or a Playbase. It seems like the consensus is that two Ones in stereo will sound better than a Play 5, especially since I can't crank the bass too much with the neighbors. However, I am curious how two Ones in stereo stack up to a Playbase? I am about 90/10 as far as music listening vs. tv watching but I like the idea that I'd be able to improve both experiences with a Playbase. The only thing is that I don't want to sacrifice my music listening experience if the Sonos Ones are THAT much better sounding than a Playbase for music. So what do you guys think for a single room apartment... 2 Ones or a Playbase (or a Play 5)? I'm sure I'll end up buying all of them and more at some point 🙂 but for the near term I just want to buy one thing. Also, the Alexa functionality doesn't really matter to

I just got a new tv and thinking about getting the beam. I already have a play 1, play 3 and play 5 (the original ones). Can any of these speakers be used as a stereo pair? I don’t want to have to buy anything other than the beam when I already have these speakers!
