I have a Samsung UN55B7000 TV. This TV does not seem to pass-through DD 5.1 through the optical audio (TOSLink). I was able to get the Sonos Beam to send audio with the provided HDMI-to-TOSLink adapter. However, when I look at the Sonos iOS app, everything shows up as "Stereo." I previously had a Sonos Playbase, and I had to have an HDMI Switch in order to make it work with a cable box, Apple TV, DVD, etc. I was under the impression that buying a Sonos Beam would allow me to no longer need an HDMI switch. But now it seems that, while I can use my Sonos without the switch, I'm forced to get my audio in Stereo vs. DD 5.1. How can I get DD 5.1 without the need for a switch? Or is this a limitation of the Beam when the TV doesn't support DD 5.1 passthrough in the optical audio / HDMI ARC?
Hi all, I’ve had to recently get a new Blu Ray player recently and I’m now thoroughly confused and I need some help and advice. What I have, equipment wise, is the playbar, bass, 2 play1s and bridge. My TV is a Samsung UE65JS9500, Blu Ray is a Panasonic UB900 and throw in games consoles and a PC on top. The way it’s set up currently is everything through the TV and an optical to the playbar. With me so far? Good :D Now, currently, I can get 5.1 sound from the consoles, PC and standard TV when available. However, no settings on either the Blu Ray or TV will show anything other than ‘stereo’ when I’m watching a DVD or Blu Ray when I check the input on the Sonos app settings. To make it more confusing, I seem to have an enhanced stereo, where sound is coming through the Play1s, it’s just not true 5.1. So, how do I get 5.1 from the Blu Ray as well? A second optical cable and swapping them isn’t an option (not easy to get to the sockets due to disability). An Optical Switch m
Sonos has added support for Airplay on Apple devices. So i can play Spotify with the free account!! When will there be support for streaming to Sonos on Android devices?
I just bought a Beam but I am unable to get Digital Dolby Audio as an output, only stereo. I have it connected via the HDMI ARC on my Sony Bravia KD50SD8005. The TV is set to output Dolby Digital Plus and ClearAudio+ is also enabled.
Hello, I've just asked a question in french, but it seems it shoulf work better if I write in english. Sorry if my sentences are badly written. Is it still possible to buy a Sonos bridge ? I cannot find any on Sonos website. I've just been to a store specialized in audio stuff, and I've been told to buy one, at 45 euros. It's much cheaper than a boost (which has the same utility ?). I've just moved in a big house ans I need a bridge as a Wi-Fi relay for Sonos. Thanks a lot !
I have Beam connected to LG B7 HDMI-ARC. Content arrives via Samsung HD Cable Box or Smart TV streaming Netflix and Amazon. Audio and video are only in sync when I stream Netflix and Amazon 5.1. All other 5.1 cable content via cable box is out of sync and not correctable using TV or Cable Box settings. Shutting off 5.1 in the cable box fixes the problem - if I wanted a stereo sound stage. I've submitted diagnostics to Sonos. Contacted tech support at LG and Optimum Cable. Lots of finger pointing but no helpful solutions. Lip sync was not an issue until I installed the Beam. Have any community members found a solution? Thanks!
An answer from Sony U on Amazon says the Sony 900F series wont pass dolby digital through the optical cable. This contradicts the 900F user manual (page 17). Has anyone hooked up their playbar to a new 900f? What was the result?
Hi. I have my sonos set up in a couple of rooms, but not in the office where I have the controller loaded on to my desktop. Is there a way of making the music play through my desktop speakers, as well as the sonos speakers?
I have a Beam ordered and I'm going to add to more speakers to it so I'm wondering what's the best way to go. I'm thinking the sound quality of the Play 1 and Play One is so similar that I'm thinking of getting 2 Play 1's because I maybe 3 Alexa enabled devices in the one room is over kill. And because I already have 1 Play 1 and 2 Play One's in the house already so I'll only actually need to purchase 1 more Play 1. Has anyone got any previous experience with Play 1/One's with a Playbar or any opinions on this? I know the Beam is not available yet but so it's kind of difficult to gauge what that will be like.
Mostly I am satisfied with my Sonos One, but even with adjusting the bass all the way down and the treble all the way up, it sounds kind of boxy and mushy in the middle. I would disagree that and enhanced equalizer is not a worth while feature. If I could play straight from iTunes, I could get around this issue. Do the bigger Sonos units provide more range?
Hi, I am currently using a Kindle Fire HD 3rd generation to control my Sonos system. I find it very slow, has anyone any ideas for a cost effective tablet that will be used primarily as a Sonos controller. that will be quicker than the tablet I am using at the moment. Regards RoyP
Currently have two Play 1's in one room and Playbar and sub attached to TV in another , looking to get two of the new Sono's 1 to go with the play bar and sub as the new speakers have Alexa built in is their any reason i cant split the two new speakers , so i have a Play 1 and a sonos 1 in one room and the other Play 1 and sonos 1 in the another room and have Alexa in both rooms , is their any technical reason why this wont work or am looking for a problem which isn't there
I have a pair of Play:1 speakers in one room and a pair of Play:3 in another. Due to room sizes, furniture, etc, I am considering mixing the pairs, one each Play:1 & Play:3. How do I reassign speakers?
The idea about the mini controller is great, but it is still pretty bulky? Any chance to find an even smaller player without the album/station graphics taking up so much space? Quick access to Sonos while working is essential, but taking way to much screen space currently.
Something I noticed was it only worked when I plugged the HDMI cable into the MHL port of my projector. If I didn't do that, I would just get sound and not video. I wonder if MHL has anything to do with this. My projector: Optoma HD27 My extractor: J-Tech Digital Premium Quality 1080P HDMI To HDMI + Audio (SPDIF + RCA Stereo) Audio Extractor Converter (Support Apple TV 4 Gen) If you go to that item on amazon and choose the picture with the ports, you can see exactly what ports I used. - Firestick TV into [HDMI IN] of the extractor - [HDMI OUT] goes from extractor to [HDMI/MHL IN] of the projector - [spdif] goes from extractor into Sonos' provided dongle with Beam that converts optical to HDMI and then that goes into the [HDMI IN] of the Beam I also have the audio switch set to 5.1 I only have a Beam with no other speakers and I'm unsure of if I get Dolby Digital or how to test this.
I have 9 Sonos devices now, and my system is still growing... There are areas in my house that I would like to semi-permanently group together, and label that subgroup of devices (master bedroom, master bathroom, and master closet could become one subgroup). I predict I would never want to address these areas separately, yet in the current software, I must. I understand I could make a stereo group with both Play:1 speakers, but I reject that partial solution due to wanting mono in each room; I don't want left in one room and right in a different room. Another feature that would be nice, using my above example, I'm using a Connect:Amp to power a pair of ceiling speakers in the master bedroom, while using a Play:1 in the master bathroom, and a Play:1 in the master closet. I always have to set the volume of the master bedroom slightly higher (let's say 10% more) to match the levels when I'm moving from room to room. If I could subgroup these systems semi-permanently, I'd also like for t
Hopefully someone can help with this issue: My set up: 1) Sony Blu Ray player (not 4k UHD) connected to new Sony Bravia TV (model: KD55XE7073SU) via HDMI cable. 2) Sky Q Box connected to TV via HDMI cable. 3) TV connected to Playbase via Optical cable What works?: When watching TV via Sky, Playbase works normally - no probem What doesn't?: When I try and watch a DVD, the picture is fine on the TV BUT there is no sound from the Playbase at all Background: All was working fine until I changed my 4 year old Sony TV to a new Sony 4K UHD TV a couple of weeks ago. Nothing else changed so this suggests the problem is linked to the TV or its settings...? Any ideas please how to fix the issue? Many thanks.
Is Sonos a Speaker company or a music streaming service?
So I bought the Beam and have paired it with 2x Play1's in my lounge. I am pretty impressed, though due to layout of my lounge, I cant get the perfect sweet spot for the surrounds. I have a converted garage with a Projector that I use for Movies and Sports. I have a 5.1 set-up in here with an Onkyo receiver (with Cambridge Audio Minx 22/12's for the surround). As my Optoma projector does have ARC, I am actually contemplating selling this and getting another Beam for this room (and just using the 2x Play 1's in here). I wont have the sub (so I will lose out on a bit of bass from current system), but I think this would be a good set-up? Room size is about 16ftx10ft width, Thoughts??
I would like Sonos to consider making a screen-equipped voice-controlled speaker like the Amazon Echo Show. I have an Echo Show in my kitchen. In this room I find a screen-equipped, voice-controlled speaker more useful than a standard voice-controlled speaker. However, because its not a Sonos device I can't control it from my Sonos apps and and I can't group it with my Sonos speakers. Furtherore the sound quality is not as good as my Sonos speakers. I would hope a screen-equipped Sonos device would support both Alexa and Google Assistant. Would anyone else be interested in something like this?
Since updating Sonos apps and iPhones and iPad and the speaker has become erratic and constantly dropping out or showing device list but unable to control it.
Hi - Fairly recent convert to Sonos ... I have a Playbase and 2 * Sonos Ones as surround speakers. I love the sound for music but finding the separation of sound from the Playbase for movies rather lacking .. ie it doesn't feel as wide a sound as I'm used to from my old 5.1 system ... can I add more Sonos ones as left and right from speakers? or do I need to recalibrate my Playbase .. should it sound wider than I currently find? Hopefully that makes sense!!
Hi there im new to sonos and looking to get the beam and either a play 3 or 2 play ones which speaker is best to get one play 3 or two play ones please advise Many thanks :?
Ideals for Vacation Rental Owners who have purchased Sonos for their rental property.
I was at a vacation rental with a sonos play:3 last week, and was unable to add my own music service. I figured the owner did that on purpose to save her from having to re-set it all the time - smart! Now we're looking at putting 4 players in our new vacation rental, but I can't figure out how to enable guest limits like that. On my current home system, it appears that anyone with the app can add music services, change My Sonos playlists, etc. How do I let friends and guests play music without screwing up my system? thanks!
