Apologies if this has been covered before, I just can't seem to find a solution to my issue. I've got a Chromecast plugged into an HDMI splitter (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/220662069393), with the video out going into a projector, and the audio out going to a 10m toslink cable, then into the HDMI convertor that came with the beam, and finally into the beam. In the app, it shows that my beam is receiving stereo and not 5.1. I'm streaming netflix, but don't seem to have any movies that have a 5.1 option (only stereo). The funny thing is, testing some movies on netflix, it actually sounds like it could be 5.1 (dialog coming out of the beam center channel only, with other isolated noise coming out of my two rear play1's) I've also tried some 5.1 videos on youtube and some downloaded content that I know to be 5.1 - but this sounds to be stereo, and reads as stereo in the app. If anyone has any tips I would be super appreciative. Going a bit nuts trying to figure this out! Thank
Audio voices are going strange after a period of time. Also optical audio ports have no doors. Hi everyone. I just have purchased two Sonos Playbars and subs from Jb Hi Fi. Neither play bars have a door on the optical audio ports? I have only been currently using 1 unit, but I just opened the other unused unit to check it. Also, after watching a film on Apple TV, after some time the voices go extremely weird, like scrambled. I fixed this by unplugging and plugging back in the HDMI port on the Apple TV. This issue also happened on Foxtel yesterday. I am using a third party 'better quality' optical audio cable at the moment.
Hi there, I just bought the Beam and was trying to put the Spotify volume up, using the volume up/down buttons on my late 2013 Macbook pro. I am using the newest version of Mac OS Mojave. Sound is good, but this missing feature is a drawback. It als sucks that you have to use an additional Software like SoTubes or hardware like Chromecast to listen to youtube music... Is there a software to make the volume buttons work? Thank you! Matthias
Trying to connect my Sony LSPX-P1to my Sonos. I've got 5:1 in the lounge which is where I'd MUCH rather have the projector outputting audio - currently it comes out through a pokey little built in speaker on the projector. Has anyone managed to get this wrking? Would Sonos Connect work? Or maybe trying out a splitter? The projector has an HDMI out port but I reckon that's all I've got to work with here. Cheers
I installed Mojave yesterday and since then, the media keys on my Apple keyboard no longer control Sonos. They open iTunes. Previously, if iTunes was open, these keys would always default to operating iTunes, but all I needed to do was close iTunes, and if the Sonos app was open, these keys would control Sonos instead. Now with Mojave, they only control iTunes. Has anyone else run into this? Anyone have any workarounds or ideas? I've searched both Sonos and Apple forums but can't figure out a solution.
I am planning on hooking up four 8 ohm speakers in parallel. My question is how exactly do you wire those in at the back of the amp? Do you use a bi-amp wire or just shove two wires in each terminal? The plan is 8 Definitive Technology AW6500 speakers on 2 Sonos Amps. Thanks.
There has been a lot of discussion and opinions shared about the Sonos 5.1 offering. During those discussions we have sometimes lost track of the original point. Here it is in one place: 1) In my listening experience, the Sonos 5.1 offering, when it includes a Beam, Sub and Play:3 rears does not perform to the expectation I have for a 5.1 system, at the Sonos price point. This is mainly because I need to turn down the Sub so that the Beam is not lost in the surround experience. 2) A vast amount of the music that exists was engineered to be played on Stereo pairs. Sonos offers Play:5 as excellent stereo pairs. They provide a good soundstage for music. The Play:5 sounds even better with a Sub adding low frequencies to the stereo pair. 3) It is reasonable to have a 75” TV, Beam, Sub, rear Play:3s and front Play:5s in a large room. The Play:5s do a great job playing music due to the ability to physically place the speakers away form each other and enhance the sound stage
I'm sure this has been asked before, but does Sonos currently have a portable speaker on the market? One that is rechargeable and weatherproof, so that it can be enjoyed outside?
Hi all, I'm thinking of getting a Sonos Beam to replace my receiver and surround speakers. One of the biggest reasons I've used the receiver is because I have an Xbox One and a PS4 with PSVR. I've seen mixed results from folks with PSVR and I'm trying to re-wire (no pun intended) my brain to think of how this will all get configured. Note: I'm not entirely sure I have a TV that supports HDMI ARC but I'm okay with that since I still have a Kinect that does the IR Blast to turn the TV on. I'm thinking it goes like this: Xbox One -- > HDMI Port 1 PS4 w/ PSVR -- > HDMI Port 2 HDMI Out -- > Sonos Beam Does that set up seem right and will this work with my PSVR? Also, does anyone know if Alexa via voice commands is able to change inputs for the TV as well? Thanks! Chris
I have a large room (garage) with six in-ceiling speakers already installed. They are all wired to a common location in my house. My plan was to power these speakers with the new Sonos Amp. Since there are six speakers and the Amp only powers up to four, I'm wondering what is the best way to go about this? Should I get two Amps? If I do, should I put four speakers on one and two speakers on the other? If I have four speakers off of one Amp and two off of another, will I notice any volume differences or syncing issues between the sound coming from the different groups of speakers? Ultimately, I want to play through all six speakers in this room via the Sonos app and volume control. What is recommended for my setup? Thanks for any advice offered!
I have a set up where I have in-ceiling speakers which the wires are run into the electrial room connected to the sonos amp there. As the TV is down the hall, I'm wondering what (if any) options there may be to have the TV and the AMP connected to use the in-ceiling speakers for the tv as well. There is too much distance to run a lenghty wired HDMI cable to the amp. Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, I couldn't find anything in my search.
If you are pairing up a Sonos Amp to run in-ceiling surround speakers with a Playbar, can you use to Amp's HDMI ARC input (from your tv) to control the entire setup? Basically bypassing the optical input on the Playbar. Playbar and Amp would be connected to ethernet switch. Also could your Sub be wireless or would it need an ethernet connection too?
There used to be a setting in the app that let you control the volume level of paired speakers separately. I can no longer find it.
Is there a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not? When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.
Thank you everyone for your input so far. Here are a few options I was thinking about. Currently I only use Sync Cloud Storage to backup my files. Theoretically, I could rip all of my music and put it there but do need a stand-a-lone NAS? I have already had two standard hard drives fail in the past so if I back up any music I want to use SSD's. Here are a few ideas that I had. Please, I need you experts to tell me what you think: 1) Get a Brennan B2. It's a CD player and a ripper that stores up to 2 TB of music. Storage is not SSD but it seems very convenient. I would also be able to continue to play obscure CD's that are not offered for streaming without having to rip them first. It also has a built-in amplifier and the sound quality should be better than using a non-audio NAS device. Check it out here: https://www.brennan.co.uk 2) Get a QNAP TS-453BT3. It has two thunderbolt ports so read/write times should be very fast for ripping CD's and I can get up to 2 TB's of SSD storage
Hard to say what exactly this is from the limited documents posted, but it has 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios, and BLE (bluetooth low energy). The controls look like those on the One, but that's all I can really see there. Embargo on documents ends in June. Check the docs out yourself at https://fccid.io/SBVRM016
Hi there i have a sub and 2 x play 5s and wanted play 3s but found out they had been discontinued but im looking for a couple of decent sounding speakers for the kitchen and the bedroom as i like my music and wondered if there was any news on a replacement of the play 3 as yet I wish i had bought the 2 i saw at manchester airport 2 weeks ago now in the clearance sale dam it lol
Hey guys, I currently have a Connect:Amp wired up to two pairs of Polk Atrium 4 Outdoor speakers. I have the speakers mounted in the four corners of my deck. Everything works well, but it doesn't have enough poke for a real party. I can't turn the volume right up because when a decent base note comes along the amp will cut out - presumably to protect itself. So, I'm faced with a dilemma - do I sell my existing Connect:Amp and pony up for the new Amp which has more than double the power - or do I buy a second Connect:Amp and have each Connect:Amp drive two speakers? Thanks in advance! Chris
Not getting anysound when I watch the DVD, when its on the DVD main menu sound comes out but as soon as I start the movie.....nothing
Hi, I have virgin V6 box connected via hdmi to my Panasonic tv. I also have amazon fire connected to another hdmi input. The beam is connected via hdmi arc to the tv. Output from amazon fire is recieved by the beam as dd2.0 or dd5.1 depending on what is playing. The output from the V6 box only comes as stereo. The v6 box audio setting is set to do (not dd to pcm). The info for the tv channel is shown as Dolby audio so I would expect it to be dd2.0 or possibly dd5.1. Has anyone got dd audio out of V6 box when connected through hdmi arc?

So on the old ask forum wishlist items would get lost. Thought I would post a topic where people could vote their biggest wish for controller software improvements.
I recently bought a Sonos beam and 2 Play 1 speakers to connect to my Samsung TV. The beam connects through the HDMI ARC but I cannot get the speakers to connect in order to create a surround sound environment. Am I being stupid or are Sonos and Samsung incompatible?
Im currently running a software squeezebox on rPi hooked to a Audiolab MDAC into a Bryston 3bst. ive ripped about 1000cds to alac but more and more i find i use Apple Music which squeeze doesnt support save via airplay which can be spotty and no shared queue for my wife to add things. Afaik AM is only supported by Sonos. im intrigued by the new Amp for the increase in power and airplay 2 funtionality plus just getting me into the Sonos system. ill only ever use it in 2 channel mode. That said i wonder if i could just buy the connect and run it into my existing dac via optical or coax? im not sure if the amp would be an upgrade compared to the bryston or how the preamp/dac works in it vs the mdac.
Have Apple TV 4K in bedroom. Can I buy a Sonos One and use it as a speaker for the tv by connecting it to the Apple TV with airplay 2?
