First off, I am a huge Sonos fan! Been one for as long as they have existed. I was lucky enough to get a Demo model of the new Arc before it launched and was impressed by the upgrades from the previous Playbar. I knew then i wanted to grab one and add it to my growing collection. But at launch, they vanished and ended up on resale sites instead of in the hands of someone like me who actually loves the product and had anticipated a smooth launch that included actually getting one. None set aside for current users, none in stock at retailers and oddly nothing on the Sonos website. While listening the most recent earnings call, there were some interesting excuses as to why this happened and why the product is unavailable until mid October but no apparent solutions (yes, i am also an investor). This was shocking to me as Sonos usually has much higher standards than the competition. For this launch the blame was everywhere. From covid to manufacturing issues there was a ready excuse. Yet st
Like many other Tidal hifi subscribers, I was super excited to learn about S2’s support of CD quality streaming, and was hoping to build a whole-house system around it (currently just have a One for a bedroom). However, being able to actually find the music you want to listen to is paramount to enjoying the app, and in this respect Sonos integration with Tidal has gone backwards from what was already a rather lackluster effort (and the reason I’ve not invested in a full Sonos system). Not only is there no way to do simple things like changing the sort order of my Tidal favorite albums to “by artist” (something that has been requested going back YEARS), but now the app now doesn’t even include the the name of the artist in the list! Are we supposed to memorize what album goes to an artist, in a list sorted arbitrarily shuffled by date added? I’m sure the canned “its entirely dictated by Tidal API” yada yada response will be forthcoming, but that is not acceptable. Other services
After parting with £800 for my new Sonos ARC and plugging it into my Sony Bravia AG9 with EARC, I was unhappy to find that when playing music certain tracks have the most awful thud on the bass beat...(sounds like someone thumping a wet Wellington) As for the app, I'm unable to use either S1 or S2, turns out my Android phone isn't compatible...(BlackBerry Dtek60) as much as I wanted and waited for this new soundbar to arrive, I don't think I'd have bought it if I'd known I'd need to buy a brand new phone as well to operate it. So now I have to borrow my partners iPhone to use the features.
Ive just updated to the new S2 app and wanted to share some of my thoughts and hope to hear other peoples opinions since updating. Positives: Sound quality seems to of improved following the update, I’ve tested home cinema and music and there seems to be an improvement in clarity, seems richer. I don’t know if this is my ears playing tricks on me but I’m as happy as ever with the excellent sound quality. App opening, search and general usability/navigation seems faster. Room groups is a good feature and welcomed although I would love to see this working with Alexa so I can summon a group change via voice! Is this coming? Not so Positives: The update process is very cumbersome and should be completely automated, instead your community is left faffing about trying to work out what order to update things. I was stuck being told my system wasn’t compatible for s2 for some time with no clear instruction of what to do to update! All the hype and the chance to reinvent the UI and
I appreciate how the Sonos app will let me send “music” audio (from the app) to all the speakers in my surround setup -- but we also need this option when using video audio (via HDMI)! I watch lots of music via YouTube/Facebook/Etc -- but the Sonos tries to play this stereo output as 5.1 which means 95% comes through the center (Beam) and none through the rear (One SL) speakers. This is easily done for music, so it should be possible for video content too -- thank you!
As it looks the new AMP will only be available in black. This makes me very disappointed as I would have loved to commission my old (white) Connect Amp installed in my kitchen and have it replaced with the new Amp. I have all speaker cables wired to a spot were I keep the Connect Amp very visible on a (white) counter top. I only have white and aluminium as a colour scheme. There is NO way I would buy a black one. Sonos, please reconsider in the same way you did with the Sub (that original only came in Black) and make a white Amp available. I will buy one immediately. Anyone else with the same wish?
Interestingly, I use Roon for my main hifi and as a byproduct use it with my Sonos setup. i have upgraded to S2, but out of curiously today plugged in my old Five and it works perfectly with Roon! So controlling both S1 and S2 with the same app, can even group zones….. why can’t Sonos app do this?
As the title describes.I own an LG B9 on the latest firmware and the Sonos Arc on the latest firmware. When I need to increase the volume or lower it when using the TV remote, it is very slow, and I mean very slow. It can take up to 5-10 seconds before the volume actually lowers or increases. Sometimes I need to click 10+ times on my remote just to increase the volume or decrease it by one point. This has been so annoying to the point where I strictly use the Sonos S2 app just to control the volume of the Arc. Anyone here have the same issue with another LG tv or another brand?
Hello I've seen questions asking when will Sonos market the Move in White. If I were you I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen 🤔. Besides, Sonos doesn't reveal future product updates/revisions until just before they launch. I doubt we’ll ever see a Move in White. Here’s why (IMHO)… Products designed for outdoor use have one common enemy…the Sun. Specifically UV rays and heat both of which are equally bad news for electronics. Without getting overly technical anyone reading this should achieve a layman’s understanding. Color has a lot to do with how well UV rays are rejected. White has the lowest UV ray rejection rating and Black has the highest UV ray rejection rating. That said we all know that for clothing white is better for keeping the body cool versus black which absorbs heat. The best color to wear in the summer for UV Ray rejection and low heat absorption is Blue. Click here for a 3rd party explanation. So…what does this have to do with the Sonos Move? I doub
The Sonos Arc is around the corner, but it disappoints in some way. First of all the front is made out of plastic! Plastic - seriously 😒 so it is a long plastic tube, not the nice metal we are used to from Play one and play:5. Second of all the Dolby Atmos sound is not very impressive. Sony, LG and Samsung has better Dolby Atmos Soundbars out there since 2018 and comes with a cheaper price tag. So the Sonos Arc are beaten by 2 year old products from Sony and Samsung. And third of all rhe Arc can't decode Atmos sound. So you have to rely on your TV to do it for you. So you need a brand new TV preferable with eARC and Dolby Atmos decoding in order to send the right signal to the soundbar. But on the good side the vocals are better on the Arc compared to the playbar.
Hi. This might have been asked before but I thought I would give this a go.I have a Sonos Arc, with a Sub and two Play 1s. The Arc is connected to the HDMI ARC of my Samsung Q90r TV. The PS4 connected via HDMI to the TV.My query is about the audio settings on the PS4 to get Dolby Atmos.I have looked at several forums but none have answered this specifically.Firstly, I have tried different variations of the settings on the PS4 to try and achieve Atmos but with no luck. While playing an Atmos BluRay (Batman vs Superman and also Wonder Woman) I changed the audio settings as follows:1PS4: Linear PCMPS4 BR Player: Linear PCMResulting Audio per PS4: Dolby TrueHD 7.1Resulting Audio per Sonos App: Stereo 2.0TV only allows PCM to be selected2PS4: Linear PCMPS4 BR Player: Bitstream (Direct)Resulting Audio per PS4: Dolby Digital Multi ChannelResulting Audio per Sonos App: Dolby Digital 5.1TV allows PCM and Dolby Digital to be selected, but not Dolby Digital +3PS4: Bitstream (Dolby)PS4 BR Player:
First, let me say this, my wife and I love our Sonos setup and have been using it for more than 5 years. I have 3 Connects, 2 Amps, a stereo pair of Play 3's, a Sonos One, all on a Boost network. I have a number of solid state and tube amps that the Connects are hooked up to. We use Alexa and Google assistants as well, and stream Spotify music, all working great. One of the things I like best is that I can have my local music playing without a PC or my NAS powered on. My wife loves not having to mess with turning on a PC or NAS. I do this for my local music files by having them copied to a 256 gig USB drive on my modem/router USB port. The music file formats are MP3, FLAC, and ALAC. This setup has worked perfect for years now, with not only my Sonos gear playing from it, but also my other music playing software, as well as my smart Roku TV. I have had multiple different DSL modems supplied by my ISP over the years, and this setup has worked great on all of them. The Move speake
So I’ve tried playing hi-res (ALAC) files on Amp and Move after the S2 upgrade. Files up to 24/48 play back fine. 24/96 and 24/192 bizarrely play back in super-slow-mo; sounds like manually turning an LP very slowly. Under S1, these files just wouldn’t play at all. Hi-res still plays back fine using Roon, but everything is still being downsampled to 16/48. Makes me wonder if the hardware actually supports 24-bit or if Sonos if just truncating the lower 8 bits. Anyway, was hoping for native hi-res support but I’m happy to continue using Roon. I prefer the interface anyway.
The new Sonos S2 for iPhone and iPad is a complete retrograde step, stick with the old one if you can. I have had a Sonos system, 4 x Sonos 1, 1 x Sonos 3 and a Sonos sound bar for a number of years, without issue, however since upgrading the apps on my iphone and ipad, I have experienced serious connection issues, and frequently have to go to connect to the system using my Macbook Air in order to change station, or simply connect to the Sonos system. This is especially frustrating when I have to move from wherever I’m listening to the radio in the house, to the study in order to connect to and retune the system. This never happened with the old app. Before I get the usual advice about reconnecting my Sonos system to my network, the Sonos system has been completely re-installed several times, currently set to hardwired from my master speaker to the main router, and my Wifi signal strength around my home is in the region of 50Mbytes. Plus the issues only began following the upgrade, no
Just wanted to put this out there for whoever finds it helpful. I like a lot of other people have had issues getting Atmos from my Arc with my Apple TV 4K and my Sony tv (75x850f) no eArch. The Apple TV would do nothing but DD but I could get Atmos through my TVs Netflix app but that’s all. So today I changed over to a Nvidia shield tv 4K and now I get Atmos in Netflix and Disney+. I know this is not the answer some of us want...but it works.
If you’re on the fence about upgrading to S2, my humble advice to you: DON’T do it! Not a mature platform. It’s slow, buggy, unstable, and should never have been released in in the condition it is in. It has transformed me from a huge Sonos fan to having zero faith and appreciation for the technology. Oh, and by the way, there really is NO additional value over S1. So there’s ZERO reason to make that move--stick with the mature option and adopt in a year or two when S2 sucks a little less--hoping that day comes sooner.
Hi all I would appreciate your views on a quick question. I have a Sonos bean with 2 play 3s as surrounds and the Sub. Due to lip sync issues with my LG C7 I used optical connections to the beam using the adapter and this fixed the issue. from what I have read I would have the same issues with the Arc and again would use the optical to solve this. So with that assumption and knowing that Dolby Atmos would not be available through optical is the Arc worth it as an upgrade? the room is the main TV room and is 8m by 10m in size. thanks Josh
With S2 we have some improvements regarding hi-res support. I was really hoping for Tidal MQA support. Now, I am not wedded to Tidal but I do like it and would love for it be supported. Is there any chance of that happening in a new S2 world? Thanks BW.
Is anyone experiencing sound dropouts on their Arc when playing media via Plex on Nvidia Shield with TrueHD/Atmos? I have an Arc with sub and surrounds connected to a 2020 LG OLED77GX6LA with eARC. I am playing media via Plex app on a 2019 Nvidia Shield Pro. The LG is doing HDMI passthrough and everything is hardwired ethernet except for the sub and rears. I am getting short audio dropouts durring what seems to more energetic audio scenes possibly durring higher bit rates. There was a known issue with the Shield and TrueHD MAT 2.0 but that was fixed a while back and I read that some still have the issue with sound bars due to the high bit rates needed. Thanks
I’m happy with the performance of our recently required Sonos Arc--a much welcomed upgrade to our Sonos home theater system, originally built around the optical-audio-input-dependent and disappointing Sonos Playbase. I gave the new Arc, sub, and rear One speakers a workout yesterday, playing Hollywood’s 2019 iteration of “Midway” on our 11-year-old 55-inch Samsung. Planes roared overhead; when somebody crashed into the drink and sank below the surface, I heard bubbles above me, even without Dolby Atmos. The upgraded system’s performance was pretty much on a par with the infinitely more complex (don’t ask), and ultimately failed Bose 5.1 wireless surround system that preceded my initial Sonos surround setup. The Playbase-centered solution had never come close to the Bose system’s performance, when said Bose system--long-since discontinued--was working. So, to paraphrase the Beatles, I was glad to get our surround sound back to where it once belonged. But with our vintage-2009 Samsung u
Just connected Beam Soundbar and two One SL speakers to TV. Connection was successful on app. The Beam plays from the TV and the One SL speakers can control Beam sound so I know they are connected but One SL speakers do not play sound. The Beam is connected to TV by Arc cable and the One SL speakers appear to be connected to my WIFI and must be bc they can control Beam sound.
Recommendations please.
Word of warning for anyone looking at the Beam to start a 5.1 surround sound system, it will NOT work ideally for any streaming box except the Apple TV. I would suggest really doing your research and/or staying away from the Beam if you want a home theater solution. The Beam does not support Dolby Digital Plus (DD+) and only supports PCM (poor quality) or Dolby Digital. Why does that matter? DD+ is the current standard. Dolby (the only thing Sonos support) sounds good but is hardly used anymore by anything halfway modern. PCM is the audio equivilent to standard definition TV. DD+ is the de facto standard for streaming boxes and services. Hulu, Netflix, HBO and I want to say Plex support this standard and only this standard. Those services do not use Dolby Digital. To get Dolby Digital, that means the stream must be downconverted (transcoded) on the fly by either your streaming device or your TV before reaching the Beam. If you do not convert, you are forced to use the poor qual
So I plan on getting an Arc along with my ARC compatible TV. One of my sources is an xbox one s. I’ve been trying to research a bit to see how this will all work, but getting a lot of vague answers, even from xbox support site. Yes, xbox one s (and x) support dolby atmos, but there doesn’t seem to be much detail beyond that. Here are the questions I have. When watching a blue-ray in TrueHD- Atmos, will the xbox send TrueHD or DD+ to the TV? I saw a reddit user claim that it was DD+, but this was a few years back. Could have been wrong or changed since then. When playing a game with Atmos, will the xbox send TrueHD or DD+ to the TV? I have seen nothing about the specific code, only the Atmos format. It appears that some game titles will only do Atmos on the Xbox One X, not S. I would guess that games are all in DD+, but don’t know why some games will only work on X. Could it be because X can do True HD while S cannot? When streaming video content, will the xbox send TrueHD or DD
I have a new sonos port and I want to conect to my imac with Focusrite Scarlet 2i2, but there isn´t sound in my another sonos. Someone know if it is possible?
