We’ve all been waiting for headphones we can add to our Sonos systems like any other Sonos speaker product.
These new Ace headphones are just fancy bluetooth headphones - no better than Sony or Bose.
First the app upgrade disaster and now headphones that won’t work as part of an existing Sonos system.
Ridiculous!
It’s a “no purchase” from me!

1 STAR RATING PLEASE.
LET THEM SUFFER
I’m extremely disappointed. I’ve been looking forward to the release for ages and couldn’t wait to get them ordered. I thought I was missing something as I can’t believe Sonos would do this, they’ve eliminated the massive advantage I thought these headphones would give. A 100% dealbreaker for me.
THE ORIGINAL IDEA.
MULTI ROOM N MUSIC COLLECTION!
NOT HEADPHONE. ITS PERSONAL AUDIO!
PLS VOTE 1 STAR!
No integration with my Sonos system !!!!!!!

I have to agree with the comments posted about this being a miss/fail. TBH - I would have been just about satisfied if I could stream everything via the Sonos app on my mobile to the headphones in order to access the ecosystem. It would enable me to walk around the house and listen - or listen without locking out an Arc soundbar. With this product as described, I must access the source streaming services via the source apps to gain access to my music (an recreate Sonos playlists). Bad user experience.
Agreed. What a total failure...App is bad and now useless headphones...i remember sending a request for this new product to Sonos in 2003 while they were asking about what Sonos can improve...i guess: nothing. I am totally disappointed!
I am not sure if technically they can how'd the software later.
I had to read the reviews over and over. I thought I had misread something. SONOS headphones that do no allow you to simply play your content to the headphones using tge app. I guess you can direct your content to the Arc and then play - but I have a Playbar! Why do they think SONOS owners wanted this..... I have bluetooth headphones. It isbdead on arrival for me. Hard to understand!!
But I think it was confirmed that you can only play the TV (HDMI) input from the Arc to the Ace. No way to sync the Ace to any line in input grouped to Arc or any content via the Sonos app to the Arc. Most baffling result of all of this is that there appears to be no way whatsoever to play Sonos very own streaming service Sonos Radio to their headphones Sonos Ace...

This is correct. Like you can’t even play your Sonos Radio HD subscription on them

Their latest marketing doesn't even mention the Arc-Ace 'TV Audio Swap' feature. It wouldn't surprise me at all if this function didn't make it to production. Especially considering they haven't got it working with Android yet.
Today's email makes absolutely no mention of 'TV Audio Swap' or of integration with any of Sonos' other products. They're literally being marketed as nothing but a set of every day Bluetooth headphones now:

Are you affiliated with Sonos, Bruce? An average of 13 posts per day over the past 8½ years is quite the feat.

Depends how tenacious and angry the poster is.
The whole affair has turned into a maelstrom of anger, fury, resentment, pleading and downright unpleasantness.
Some future graduate student is going to have a marvellous case study for their doctoral thesis on user/customer response to arbitrary change.
I was SO very excited when I was the announcement for the Ace headphones only to be TOTALLY disappointed that there is no integration into the Sonos system, other than replacing a sound bar! I REALLY wanted to listen to my vinyl collection on my Pro-ject turntable thru a pair of really good headphones! Oh well, it looks to me as if Sonos has taken another step backward!
Maybe they will hear all of us, and integrate them into Sonos at a later date.

I'm not angry in the slightest.
I haven't had any of the negative experiences with the new app that many have shared (I actually quite like what I've seen of it), and although I'm somewhat disappointed with the Ace's lack of integration with the wider Sonos ecosystem, it's not really a deal breaker for me.
95% of the time, my Sonos setup is being used for home cinema. I have a Samsung S95C television, which (miraculously) supports USB audio, so I have my Topping DX7 Pro taking a direct stream from the television and sending it to my trusty set of Senheisser HD660S's whenever I require the audio to be a little more discreet/intimate. The only inconvenience is that I need to disable HDMI-CEC whenever I want to use the TV's USB output, but it's hardly going to ruin my evening.
Along with my Momentum 4's for when I want to be a little more mobile, I really don't see where the Ace would fit into my own setup (unless it can compete sonically with the DX7 and my 660's ‐ but it won't).
What I take issue with is Sonos' ambiguity with certain aspects of the Ace. Why isn't Android functionality ready yet? Why can't they give an ETA for full Android compatibility? Why aren't they being more transparent about the fact that only iOS users will get full functionality (besides Lossless Bluetooth - which isnt coming to iOS users)?
Besides somewhat spurious claims from certain users with suspiciously high post counts that Sonos are actively marketing these headphones for 'Home Cinema' use, I'm yet to see any evidence to support that. Yes, there's a help section outlining 'TV Audio Switching' and compatible products, and it's mentioned towards the bottom of the product page on their store. But considering it's the Ace's one and only true USP, and the fact it would undoubtedly help pull more customers into the Sonos ecosystem, Sonos seem somewhat ambiguous about a feature that should really be front and center of their marketing campaign.
I suspect that the same connectivity issues that affected the Roam are going to affect the Ace - if the switching feature actually makes it to production and doesn't end up in the 'soon' pile with everything else Sonos has promised.

No, I am not associated with Sonos. I do get a certain amount of joy in helping people, when I understand what the issue is and can help. Occasionally, I fail, and post snarky comments, but try really hard not to do so. I am merely another user of the Sonos system.
As I understand it, Sonos employees are required to identify themselves as such. I think I can count on one hand the number of posts over my time here in the forums of posts from employees who are not Sonos Forum moderators.
Add me to the disappointed-in-Ace list: the one feature I asked for was WiFi integration into my existing Sonos system. Maybe it’s in the works?

Can I just politely ask what that might achieve, in your view, that cannot perhaps be done over and above a Snapdragon’s Apt-X Bluetooth lossless connection? The only thing I can think of that’s perhaps worthwhile, is being able to playback Sonos Radio stations, but I’m struggling to think of anything else that might be useful over WiFi. If anything, it would just cause the batteries to drain faster.

Sonos is the only streamer which has Audible & Audiobooks - an ideal unique use case for player headphones. Probably extends to podcasts and voice radio stations for personal (late night) listening. Sonos missed a USP here.
Listening to Jennifer Lopez's latest 'Atlas' blasting in your solitary ears is unlikely to enhance a flawed project in the first place.

I would simply continue to use the Audible App to play to my headphones from my iDevices. I can do that now even with my Sony headphones, so that’s not going to be an issue.

Well, yes of course, you can.
However, I did believe that Sonos offered an integrated coherent audio experience. They seem to have ditched that now. Maybe investing time and resources into making their speakers chromecast enabled would have been money better spent.
On your argument, what advantage does Sonos then have over alternative speaker systems for other audio sources - just Bluetooth or cast from the native app on your phone. Probably even more viable given the Sonos-Google grouping spat has now been decided in Google's favour.
I guess there is the case too, where a high quality Apt-X HD/Lossless BT long range Transceiver can be used with a Sonos Port too, such as the Fiio BTA30 Pro - that will provide the ability to playback Sonos Radio on the Ace headphones. So it’s going to be doable, at least for Home use.

How much is a Port again? Plus 140 for the fiio, and all the extra wires and plugs. Hmmm?

I don't know why I'm debating this. Sonos blew it on these headphones, and I'm not buying into some 'head spatial orientation' gobbleygook just to own premium branded Bluetooth headphones. They threw away their USP advantage by not integrating them into the Sonos ecosystem. Cheers.

Port is only $449 in my local currency. For me adding a port for aptx and an Arc for tv listening would not be something I would be willing to do. I’ll stick with my current setup, but if you go this route please let us know how it works for.
