Talk about Sonos S1 and S2 Controller apps for mobile, and the desktop app. This is also the place to talk about partner apps, Airplay, and direct control.

I was very disappointed when Sonos removed this feature from the iPhone app, because it's really handy to be able to quickly jump to the next song or turn down the volume from the lock screen without having to log into your phone, start the Sonos app, wait for it to connect, then do what I want to do. It's so much slower that way. Is there any way to get this option back? I don't use AirPlay and have a single PlayBar speaker that I control with the app. That's it. Thanks!
After the last update, my green light is stuck on but is showing in speaker settings that it’s off, how can I fix this issue?
In case anyone is interested in this, Roon now works feeding Sonos speakers as of Ver 1.3, released today. (Not seeing 1.3 there yet at download page, but will likely be there tomorrow). I suspect this is a good option for those with larger than ~65k music libraries. The Roon integrated database of information is quite nice as well. In any case, I have no financial interest in Roon, just letting other SONOS users know about the recent change. From Announcement: "With the 1.3 update, Roon now streams to Sonos devices! This means all the users in a home – with one app and one music collection – can play music to Sonos, Airplay, Squeezebox, Sooloos, and any of over 50 Roon Ready devices available today. Since Sonos discontinued support for the iPod dock I have been struggling to adapt to how cumbersome it has become to play music from my iTunes library. It was a classic iPod so no digital link was possible, but it was easy to shuffle my music or play from my playlists. I have since added the 7000 songs to the music library on my sonos desktop controller but of course it wont play from my iPhone unless I connect to the desktop, which is also a burden. Also in downloading the music library I have lost all of my playlists that were on my library, so what was relatively easy before has now become an issue. The library seems to have been added to the queue, making it impossible to flick between artists and playlists and most of the night the music crashes. It’s all become very frustrating. I have 5 speakers Play 1, 3 x Play 3’s but none of them able to connect through airdrop. As far as I can see, the only hope of having the flexibility is buy a new iPod or a Smart Play 1 with Alexa. We have a home setup with several rooms. Our living room is the center to our home with a surround system centered around playbar. With the TV/playbar and Apple TV 4K almost always on it would be convenient to have the sonos controller available for the Apple TV to control the home audio from there. As sonos controller is already available for iOS, porting it to apple’s tvOS should be rather easy, right? Any ideas why the sonos controller is not available for Apple TV?
I would like to have a feature where you can permanently lock speakers in a group (not in a stereo pair as they’re not close to each other, but similar arrangement). So that even if they are added to a group and removed from the group they automatically stay in their permanent group. Also if they’re switched off & on it would be good to be able to get them to automatically stay grouped (or join a default group), rather than appearing as individual speakers. What do you think?
Hi, my Sonos system keeps stopping songs while they are still playing and then not starting the next song until I go into the app, then the song will start part way through before stopping early. I have changed the wifi channel several times and this does not seem to work, I have placed the device I am playing from next to the wifi router and it still happens. At the moment it is an expensive radio and am thinking of going back to bluetooth speakers
On December 6th we released Sonos version 7.0 and added a new registration method for Sonos systems that enables the listener to play music from Spotify straight to Sonos. As a result of the changes, this update also broke an unofficial Control4 integration with Sonos. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause some users of both Control4 and Sonos. If you’ve already updated your system and are unable to play to Sonos via Control4, you can still use the Sonos App on any compatible device. If you’re a Spotify subscriber, you can now also use the Spotify app to control what’s playing. We are in talks with Control4 on potential solutions and will provide updates here as they become available.
The recent 9.3 update required me to unplug all of my Sonos products and add them one at a time, to avoid the useless "error 30". However, I am now unable to re-add one playbar and one amp, both of which were working perfectly fine until the update. I submitted diagnostic #2117542868. Previous updates have been a pain, but in two years of ownership of a professionally-installed system I've never loss the use of speakers after an update. I have rebooted my router, and none of the MAC addresses or assigned IP addresses are duplicated in the network. I work in I.T. so managing a network is not new to me, but these constant issues with updates is making me reconsider my choice of hardware.
google home hub looks interesting. https://www.techradar.com/uk/reviews/google-home-hub
A customer would like to have an App for the Samsung Galaxy Gear SmartWatch. Including full control for the volume, skipping tracks etc. What do you think about it?
Is it possible to get the pattern wallpapers that the beam displays on the TV? They would make great laptop, mobile wallpapers but I can't find them anywhere.
As we listen to our sonos system, the volume has started to fluctuate up and down on its own. This happens with the radio apps, Apple and Spotify. Is there a solution?
As a long time Sonos user and advocate in the UK, I feel more than slightly aggrieved at only recently finding out that Sonos were offering a limited time voucher scheme for old CR100s. Clearly I've missed the deadline and frankly Sonos Customer Service couldn't give a damn... Anyone else caught in the is position or have any advice?? I suspect it's corporate greed taking over at what I used to think of as a innovator and trail blazer, that should be supported through thick and thin. Well, no longer.
I updated to the most recent release for Android, v9.0.1. At first, it was laggy, then would freeze up and crash. When I say "at first", I mean after the first 5 minutes of use. Now it crashes immediately on opening and I can't even submit a diagnostic report because it just keeps crashing! Tried reinstalling but to no avail.
I installed Wine on Mint 19 without problems. Then installed the Win Desktop Controller .... all I see is a nice black Sonos flash fixed permanently on screen. Have to reboot to clear. Any gurus with some tips out there?
When you are on the same wireless network as my sonos play:1 device, you have all access to the device. Download the app, add device, and you are in. You can even DLNA push whatever you want to the device, provided you are on the same network. Is there a way to add a password or to lock down some services?
how can I prevent Sonos app [only] on my android mobile from going to sleep?
This is since a fairly new update. Every now and then the hardware controls of Sonos on my iPad Mini 2 stops working and it happens even when there are no other Apps active on the iPad. Sonos is running all by itself. It usually happens if I pick up the iPad efter a while and wake it. Then for a short moment the iOS "Volume" icon (kind of half transparent with small quadratic dots indicating volume) appears and after that hardware control of Sonos cease to work. My only "solution" so far seems to be to restart Sonos. Then it works again, for a while. I would say this happens maybe one time out of five so it's pretty annoying. Is this specific to iPad/iPad Mini 2 or is it a general bug?
Here is a tutorial to install Sonos on ubuntu using Wine, PlayonLinux and Samba (for the music library). I/ Install the Sonos Controller The first thing to do is to install Wine and PlayonLinux so your computer can use Windows software. Open a terminal (ctrl+alt+t) and copy/paste the following line by line. sudo apt-get install wine sudo apt-get install playonlinux Then download the latest version of the Sonos Controller for Windows. Start PlayonLinux and click on "install a program". A new window opens. Select "Install a non listed program" (at the bottom). If it is the first time you use PlayonLinux you may not have this option. Then close the window and re-open it. Select "install in a new virtual drive". Name the drive however you want (but "sonos" seems a logical choice). Untick the boxes that may be ticked and choose "32-bit installation". Browse to the sonos controller you downloaded and click "next". The installer starts. Install the software (leave everything as it is)
Availability of App
Just added a Sonos Sub to my system and due to my setup (some wireless speaker setup and some hardwired speakers) the subwoofer would work better if it had separate speaker controls (like the other Sonos speakers). Is it possible this option will be available in a future update? I can't imagine that I'm the only person out there that this is a problem for.
If we post enough messages they might listen. ;) So, for whatever reason I want to stick with 9.1 of the player software. However I have upgraded my PC to 9.2 and now I can't do stuff. Now I appreciate that with iOS and various app stores you can only distribute the latest versions of the controller software. But with PCs and Macs, you should have an archive somewhere of old versions of software. Are you really saying that everyone with a sonos MUST be on the latest versions! Or else! It is such a flexible system that you can't expect everyone to use it in the same way. We don't particularly do streaming so if a particular version is good enough, then why can't we stick with it.
any one else like to have a snooze button for the Sonos Alarm, ever tried to shut it off when you are not fully awake, have to find a smart device, unlock it, find the app, wait for it to open, find the room and hit the stop button to much effort in the morning. something like what Phillips have done with the remote switch for the HUE Bulbs (sorry for off brand) but they have a programmable button to control the lights, the same would be great for the Sonos system
sonos will play a song if I select it from the library but cannot find server if I use a playlist. This playlist is one that I have used for years.
