What to get

I have sonos throughout my house and Im in the market for an outdoor speaker that I can use the Connect AMP to integrate. My location gets hit pretty hard with sun in the summer and there wouldnt be much protection from rain unless I built a cover. Anyone have a recommendation?

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum and new to Sonos in general. I have read through some of the postings here and on other sites about the best way to connect outdoor speakers. The info has been mixed, so I was hoping to get an expert opinion on what I want to accomplish. I'll do my best to describe it. We just installed a swimming pool and need speakers. I would like to get two Klipsch AWR-650-SM rock speakers that would be out by the pool. The wire runs would be approximately 65' to one, and 135' to the other (I'm using 12AWG 4 conductor wire). The rock speakers would be placed across the pool from each other, approximately 35' apart. Then we will have two on-wall speakers at the patio by the house (not sure which ones yet, they would be about 35' from the rock speakers). We would like to have two outdoor zones, but do not need them to play different sources, just the ability to turn off the rock speakers and use the patio speakers, or both at the same time. My q

Hi all, I currently have a Sony receiver (2010 or so), connected to a Samsung TV and in wall speakers throughout the house (specifically, family room and living room (which are on the main floor and very close to each other) and master bedroom on the second floor). The receiver is in the family room. Our plan is to connect a sonos connect to the receiver to add sonos functionality to the family room and living room speakers, and a sonos connect:amp to add sonos functionality to the in-ceiling speakers in our master bedroom. The idea is to create 2 music zones (one in the living room/family room area - essentially the main floor) and a second music zone in the master bedroom. Will I be able to effectively get sound through the in-ceiling speakers and sonos functionality with the set up I've described, or do I need a second sonos connect; amp to get sonos functionality through the the living room speakers? Does anyone have first hand experience of comparing the Playbar Vs the Playbase? I have a Playbase and am quite disapointed with the separation it provides while watching movies. Only with the addition of 2 Play 1's does it really sound like a surround sound system. I do realise youre not quite going to get the surround sound effect as you would with multiple speakers but the sound just seemed to be coming from the speaker and it struggled to create a soundstage. Having been to the local retailer recently i compared the Playbar and Playbase instore, the Playbar seemed superior to the point im thinking of returning the playbase and getting the playbar. can anyone share their experience.

I would like to set up a small system using KEF LS50 W (wireless) speakers. I will have a connect and use an ipad for the controller. My question is about using a wireless external hard drive. Is it possible to use such a storage device connected to the same router as the Connect and access the music library through the ipad? If yes, are there any specs I need to look for in the wireless external hard drive to make sure it works? Thanks for your help.

Hi, I just got a Playbase and I can really recommend it. It filles up my two room + kitchen apartement well alone and the base is great. However I want to extend it to a home theatre AND a full music experience. I`m really impressed with the base sound so I wonder if I need a sub at all? But at least I need two rear speakers, should I get two Play 1 or two Play 3? I have learned that two Play 5 would be the best in the living room for music, but now I want to combine with the Playbase and get both the home theatre and music as good as possible. Then I need at least another Play 1 or 3 for kitchen and bedroom.

Hi there! We just bought a new home and we're having a wall mounted TV installed tomorrow. I had an AV guy come in and he suggested we go all Sonos. Much of the house has built-in speakers which is great and he suggested we use Sonos Connect Amps to take advantage of them. My question is about our living room config. We have two built in speakers that will surround the TV (based on where it will be mounted) One on the left, one on the right. They're installed high in the wall and probably around 15' apart. The TV will be mounted in between them. I was thinking to use a Sonos Soundbar and Subwoofer for the TV. What about the two in-wall speakers though? Should I get a Sonos Connect Amp for those? Would they work in conjunction with the soundbar and subwoofer for TV/Movies or would they be used only to play music? If playing music then would all the speakers in that room be involved like the soundbar, 2 in-wall speakers and the sub? Same question for when watching TV/

I have a Playbar, a Play 5, and a Play 3. I also have a record player with a receiver and two speakers that I need to replace. I'm debating either (1) buying a Connect Amp and a pair of nice ($300 range) bookshelf speakers; or (2) buying a Connect Amp and two Play 1s. Goal is to be able to play records throughout the house as well as my digital music and sound from the TV (Playbar and bookshelf/two Play 1s would be in the same room). Thoughts on whether it's better to go with bookshelf speakers or two Play 1s to achieve this goal?

i am buying a turntable to add to play 5s and subwoofer. Will the turntable allow me to play a stereo pair left and right with the play 5s? also will the sub woofer work in unisen?

I having been using a bridge connected to the router since day 1 and it works perfectly. I intend to upgrade and replace the bridge with a boost. The sonos system tells me that I have already 1 sonos element connected to the router and propose either to connected the new one (boost) to the router or elsewhere; 1) does this mean bridge and boost can be both connected to the router and work together with no conflict ? 2) if so, will I get better results connecting the new boost to the router also or elsewhere ? 3) if not, how to proceed to replace existing bridge with new boost ? We are moving to a 3K square foot house. Config is the following: 1. Family Room - 65" TV over fireplace Room has high ceilings and is prob 25X20 2. Smallish Office - 55" TV 3. Master BR - 50" TV 4. Enclosed Sun Room/Patio 5. Eventually, backyard Help!!! We really want it uncluttered, and don't want overkill for sound in the BR or office. I want to go all Sonos, but I am thinking for TV sound maybe a soundbar/sub combo from Sony or Denon or Klipsch is a better option, and I would stick to Sonos for music? Thank you.

Hi, I haven't seen this question answered. I have a large room, 20x25, with a high ceiling. I am wondering if I should go with a stereo pair of play 1s and a stereo pair of play 3s, or a stereo pair of play 1s and a subwoofer. I am using air miles to get them and Play 5s are not an option, nor is a pair of 3s and a subwoofer (beyond my miles). I know the play 1s with a subwoofer will be better for bass, but I'm concerned that they won't be enough to fill the space. I'm thinking the two pairs of 1s and 3s will better fill the space. Is this correct?

Site: 3 level (basement, main floor, upstairs) home. 7k sq ft. Lot size about a half acre (want coverage for my lot/yard as well). Requirement 1 - Great sound quality in major entertaining areas, all bedrooms, and the backyard grilling terrace, and dining courtyard. Requirement 2 - so easy my kids can use it. Requirement 3 - easy for guests to connect and stream their own music My wifi will be robust inside and outside via a Ubiquiti Networks design being implemented. I can use that same WIFI network (separate VLAN?) for Sonos or can even do hardwired since the framing has just begun on the house. There's a comms closet in the basement.

Therefore 2* 1 seems the better choice from a financial perspective. However, 1 Sonos 5 speaker could be an alternative. What would you advise? Much appreciated!

Hi Community. I am probably about to invest in Sonos ... I have five rooms in which I would like to have music (and the ability to specify different music in different rooms via the app - and if possible running the app on several iPhones/iPads). All rooms have preinstalled loudspeaker cables. Two of the rooms have wired loudspeakers hidden above the ceiling. So to of the rooms definitely need a wired solution. The question: - How would I ideally set up Sonos to get the above scenario to work (and not ruin myself)? - Thanks for helping me out!

Hi I have a sonos playbar and 2 play 1,s. Would you recommend getting a sub as well, or swapping the playybar for a sub.

With the current 15% off promotion, I am tempted to get a Playbase or a Playbar ...but I am not sure which would be the best.. In our set-up, we have a wall mounted TV but just below that is a glass/metal shelf unit that houses an old Bose system (rarely used as my wife doesn't like the surround sound), a Sky HD box, a PC and a router. As the Bose will be going - I could either mount a Playbar on the wall between the TV and the unit - or get a Playbase and place this on top, or inside the unit. Is there any noticeable sound quality differences between the bar and the base? Any other differences?

I'm setting up 3 zones in our house with in ceiling speakers. Two of the zones will be 4 speakers, one zone will be 2 speakers. Mix of speakers as two of the zones will be a retrofit from existing install. I'm trying to figure out if I should buy the Connect Amp, or the Connect with a small amp for each zone? I'm leaning toward the connect + small separate amps as it'll be cheaper and give me more flexibility with speakers/matching volumes despite different speakers. Any suggestions on what will be best?

Hi. I've recently joined the Sonos family. I've got two play5 units. One in one room, one in the other. For my TV/video/media area, I'd ideally like to make a nice stereo pair out of my system - rather than just having one in that area. The sound a single play5 makes is amazing, but I am fairly confident a stereo pair will be effortlessly better for TV/movie viewing. I suppose my question is - given I've already dropped significant money onto 2 * play5's already, and the Play5 Gen2 is a device from 2015 - am I in imminent danger of a new speaker being released very shortly and I've really poured a lot of money into an end of life product? Don't get me wrong - they are absolutely beautiful speakers - which some of my audiophile friends on blind tests would never guess was not a full standing full response Hi-Fi speaker - but i have to wonder if I've purchased-into this market at the tail end of the Play5's life? I have several Sonos speaker systems throughout our home. We also have direct wired speakers running into a Sonos Amp in a part of our home. The rest of the home is wired to a Russound A H4D Hub. In order to connect our Sonos system to that Hub, I need to use Analog In & Out jacks. Can I put a Sonos Connect between our Sonos Amp and the Hub? If so, how will I control the music system using my Sonos Ap?

I have 4 play1s and a PLAYBAR. Play1 in the kitchen. Play1 in the entryway. Pair of play1s in the bedroom and a PLAYBAR in the great room connected to the tv. I have been wanting a play5 since I heard the sound. Amazing. I was thinking to put a play5 in the bedroom and move the stereo set of play1s to the great room to do a 5.0 surround set up. It's not a huge bedroom but it isn't small. Will I miss the stereo separation? Now I see the sub is on sale. It had me thinking I could add a sub to the PLAYBAR and keep the 1s in the bedroom. I can't afford both at the moment. I have been very happy with just the PLAYBAR in the great room. I was never interested in the sub but I keep reading on this sub (lol) how amazing it is. Hi. I'm looking to set up a system and am having some trouble deciding between multiple Sonos Amps or a Sonos Connect and a separate 6 zone amplifier. I own a Sonos PlayBar and a Sonos Amp. They are used in a room in which I'm about to install in wall speakers for the rear channels for 5:1 sound. I have 5 other rooms that have ancient/broken in wall/in ceiling speakers which I'm replacing. All wiring drops down to a central point. I'd like to have 5:1 sound in the theater room and plan to use the bar, sub and in wall rears there. I'd like whole house audio capability in the other rooms and live Sonos interface, simplicity, etc. Top priority is ease of use for family. Not too distant second priority is price but have some flexibility here. Third priority is neat features (playing different music in rooms, adjusting volume separately, etc.). Can/should I be thinking about multiple Sonos Amps or can/should I effectively do this with a Connect and a six zone amplifier? Other con

Hi. So i am currently in the process of renovating my house and I would like to create a 3 zone sound system. Zone 1 would be my 5.1 surround sound system (Sonos 5:1 Home Theater). Zone 2 would be my outside patio area where I will have Polk RC80i in ceiling speakers along with a TV, and Zone 3 will be solely for playing music in my kitchen/dining room. I would like to know what equipment would be necessary to run this setup? Zone 1 (Home Theater I think is pretty straight forward), but I am not sure what equipment to use for Zones 2 and 3. If I had to guess Zone 2 would consist of a Sonos Amp, and the speaker wires would run to the Sonos Amp. Now if I wanted to have the sound from my TV come through the in-ceiling speakers what types of wires would I require, and do they get plugged directly into the Sonos Amp? Lastly for Zone 3 would I just require two Play:1 speakers, or would I also need the Sonos Connect? Apologies for the multi layered question, but I want to make sure
