What to get

Like many of you, I've got a combination of Sonos and Homes in my life. Unfortunately I only currently have two Play 1s but I'm desperate to find a way to cast music via my Homes, to my Sonos. As I see it, there are currently two solutions. Get a Play 5 or Connect and then add a Chromecast Audio. The obvious choice seems to be the Play 5, but will I be able to cast to all the speakers in my house if I have that? Or would I need to have a Connect to enable that? Is there another option? Could I buy a PlayBase and connect that to my TV then add a Chromecast to the TV and cast music to the Chromecast and then to the Playbase (and maybe to the other speakers?) If it would work, it seems like the best option as I'm much more interested in getting a Playbase than I am a 5 or a Connect. AND FINALLY, have many people had luck getting things to play via IFTTT? Is that a viable fourth option? Thanks for all your thoughts!

I am a current Play5 user of the 1st generation speakers. I recently mounted them on some Flexson speaker stands and I am delighted with the product. I know Flexson has a new stand for the 2nd gen. Play5 but I can't find them in the U.S. (California to be exact). I would take a recommendation on other options or...if you know of a local reseller that deals in Flexson.

I've been contemplating Sonos for quite a while, but having built my house with mostly in-walls and ceiling, I had a hard time justifying. Now with the Alexa integration, I'm taking another look. My whole house system could easily be retrofitted with 6 or so Sonos Connect devices, but before getting there, I'd like to try it out. So I figured my family room TV could use an update, currently using an old 2.1 setup with no integration into my whole house system. So my thought was to get a Playbase, which I would use equally for TV and Music. But I was a little worried about the bass so I thought the Play:5 might be a good option, especially when on sale for $399. Regardless of the 70ms delay when using the P5, thoughts? I don't mind spending 300 more for the Playbase if the bass is on par with the P5. Not sure the optical connection to get dolby digital is all that important either as I never plan to add 5.1, I have a 7.4.2 home theater already. Basically, talk me into the Playb

Morning all, my system is getting pretty big now, mainly CA's or ZP120's, a few Play's, subs and a single ZP90. They all (with the exception of gym which uses B&W 805's) use B&W in-ceiling speakers .....CCM616's, CCM663's, CCM 664's etc. And they work well.....the 663's very well. But they are expensive and to progress further, I think I need to be looking at good alternatives and was interested in what that might be. If anyone has any suggestions, products etc that would give the those various B&W's a run for their money then very interested to hear about.....especially if cheaper. Many thanks

I am about to enter the Sonos ecosystem to replace my old wired 5.1 setup. It is important that I can use Alexa to request music using the same system that will be serving 5.1 sound when watching movies. In a 5.1 setup, would I need to buy 2 new Alexa enabled One's if I didn't want to use a dot? I am unsure weather it would be better to use dot's to drive them or have Alexa built into the speaker's themselves. I will wait for Spotify support regardless so I have some time to mull this over. Any input would be appreciated. /Christian

I'm looking at getting the hubby something for Christmas and he was eyeing up the Sonos when we went shopping but I've no idea what bit to buy!! He wont particularly want it for the TV (at first anyway- no point just yet as our TV is old and needs upgrading) more for music, multiple rooms would be nice but I think he would be happy with one to start off with so see how he likes it. So... what bit do I need to buy (I'm a total technophobe!!!) All help advice very much appreciated.:D

I am interested in getting the Connect or Connect Amp for my new bathroom renovation. I want to have 2 Kohler SoundTile shower speakers (4 Ohms) and 2 Polk ceiling speakers (8 Ohms). I am aware that with these speakers I cannot just connect them all to the Connect Amp due to the 4 Ohms of the Kohler speakers. What is my best option? I was thinking of getting the Niles SSVC-2 speaker selector with volume control and impedance magnification. Would this work? I know I could purchase 2 Connect Amps, but since the 4 speakers would be in the same room it doesn't seem like a good solution (and is more expensive). I appreciate any responses! Thanks!

Hi all! I have a single Sonos Play 3, and love the sound. However, when looking for the soundbar for my TV and movies, I ended up buying the Qacoustics M4. It trumps the Playbar in terms of sound quality, IMO, I've heard both. But! The simplicity of Sonos is just not there. I plan to sell the QM4 and Play3, buy the Playbar and add maybe two play 1's later. Does this sound like a good plan to you?

I am planning on using a Sonos System in our new house and had been planning on using a playbar sitting on our mantle with a TV above. I am now wondering if I could use a playbase off to the sides in the bottom bookshelf, perhaps the white one and it could kind of blend in. After reading a good bit here it is clear that this forum is NOT a sonos corporate "place" staffed by sonos people but rather a "place" staffed by people who are doing this in their own time for no comp. (I see these comments a good bit.) Therefore I am going to ask a question that I otherwise would not (because it might be unseemly). I have a BUNCH of sonos stuff already and have for years. Gosh I have loved it. Music (almost) everywhere (not outside (ok... sometimes outside). Sounds great. The app. I thought that was the coolest thing in the world years ago. Sounds soooooooo good. Glenn Gould playing Bach. Thievery corporation at 4:20. So so nice. And I have a connect so I wired some sorta cheapy outdoor speakers to my garden from a nice conventional 2 channel stereo amp from back in the day (Onkyo or Yamaha or something... you know hat I mean) But sonos seem to be trying to become more home theater-centric. Being new to the product, I am looking for advice and will be as brief as possible in my explanation... I am currently using Play 5's and am so impressed with the product. I do have occasional wi-fi issues. My home is wired to all rooms with both speaker wire and CAT5. All current wiring runs back to one location. My desire is to utilize hard-wired ceiling mount speakers in various rooms with the ability to utilize Sonos. Total Hard-wired rooms would 8+ Home is near 8k sq ft. I have not purchased the in-ceiling speakers yet. I understand these are not available. Are there certain brands ideal for sound with Sonos products? Do I need an "Amp" for each & every room? I currently have my Play 5's in various rooms and "group" to play the same throughout. Is this the same when using Amp and hard wired speakers?

Hello - we are planning to install sonos speakers in an apartment building for several common areas including a community room and a yoga room. Has anyone used sonos for this situation or a similar one? If so, which streaming service did you use (spotify and pandora are not compliant with public/business usage).

Hi! I'm on the fence about what Sonos system I want to build for the living room and TV sound (or drop Sonos all together). For me 5.1 surround isn't important, but I'm more fond of a good stereo pair speakers than a soundbar. And because it's Sonos I'm not really going for hi fidelity sound, but it's more about the ease of putting on music and getting somewhere close to good TV sound. So my three quick questions are: 1. Anyone have any experience with this setup? 2. With a pair of Sonos 5, there is obvisously only an auxiliary input so any 5.1 is a no-go, but could you still hook a sonos sub woofer to this setup to receive the same stereo signal? 3. Will the Sonos 5 left speaker (that gets the physical aux cable) be able to forward the right channel signal from the aux cable through wifi to the other Sonos 5 speaker (right channel)? Hi, I would like to start using Sonos with my speakers instead of my existing B&O sound system. I was thinking about buying Sonos Connect to my active beo lab 8000 speakers and the remove my existing sound system? Also I hoped to be able to connect the audio output from my new TV through the Sonos unit and the out to the speakers? If it´s not possible to connect my TV through the the Sonos unit then I have to connect my speakers seperately to both the TV and the Sonos unit and I want to avoid that if possible?

So I'm trying to build a decent wireless sound system around my projector. I'm not sure what's the best way to do it though and which speakers to buy. The projector does not have bluetooth or wifi. Hence, I assume I'd have to plug in atleast one Sonos speaker into it which would broadcast the sound to other wireless speakers. Hello everybody! I'm thinking of joining the Sonos club thus I intend to buy a Playbar, Sub and 2 x Play:1s. Before I take the plunge I would really love to hear your opinions. First of all I have never listened to a Sonos system nor do I have the possibility of doing so. My only source of information so far were online reviews, which brought me here. I would really like to know how does the bass performance feels while using the system at low to mid volume. At present I'm using a 'decent' soundbar+sub combo and while the sound clarity is OK, it lacks the rumble/grunt that makes you feel alive. Please keep in mind the volume levels mentioned earlier as I live in a flat and don't want my upstairs neighbours visiting with pitchforks in hands 🙂. Thank you for sharing your experience and please, by all means, tell me what convinced you to buy Sonos gear.

Hi all, I have a large L-shaped living room/kitchen. in the high end of the L I have two Play5 speakers vertically set up as stereo (although I just read they'll only play stereo when horizontal, is that correct?) My main question is, in the low end of the L the sound of the speakers is very far away, and any stereo-effect is gone. (Note, the width of the L at the high end is about 4 meters, but the length is about 11 meters). I would like to get an extra Sonos speaker for my living room, but is there a way to combine yet another speaker to this setup, and which one should that be. I was thinking about a Play3, as the main concern is the sound in the high-end of the room.

I have sonos throughout my house and Im in the market for an outdoor speaker that I can use the Connect AMP to integrate. My location gets hit pretty hard with sun in the summer and there wouldnt be much protection from rain unless I built a cover. Anyone have a recommendation?

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum and new to Sonos in general. I have read through some of the postings here and on other sites about the best way to connect outdoor speakers. The info has been mixed, so I was hoping to get an expert opinion on what I want to accomplish. I'll do my best to describe it. We just installed a swimming pool and need speakers. I would like to get two Klipsch AWR-650-SM rock speakers that would be out by the pool. The wire runs would be approximately 65' to one, and 135' to the other (I'm using 12AWG 4 conductor wire). The rock speakers would be placed across the pool from each other, approximately 35' apart. Then we will have two on-wall speakers at the patio by the house (not sure which ones yet, they would be about 35' from the rock speakers). We would like to have two outdoor zones, but do not need them to play different sources, just the ability to turn off the rock speakers and use the patio speakers, or both at the same time. My q

Hi all, I currently have a Sony receiver (2010 or so), connected to a Samsung TV and in wall speakers throughout the house (specifically, family room and living room (which are on the main floor and very close to each other) and master bedroom on the second floor). The receiver is in the family room. Our plan is to connect a sonos connect to the receiver to add sonos functionality to the family room and living room speakers, and a sonos connect:amp to add sonos functionality to the in-ceiling speakers in our master bedroom. The idea is to create 2 music zones (one in the living room/family room area - essentially the main floor) and a second music zone in the master bedroom. Will I be able to effectively get sound through the in-ceiling speakers and sonos functionality with the set up I've described, or do I need a second sonos connect; amp to get sonos functionality through the the living room speakers? Does anyone have first hand experience of comparing the Playbar Vs the Playbase? I have a Playbase and am quite disapointed with the separation it provides while watching movies. Only with the addition of 2 Play 1's does it really sound like a surround sound system. I do realise youre not quite going to get the surround sound effect as you would with multiple speakers but the sound just seemed to be coming from the speaker and it struggled to create a soundstage. Having been to the local retailer recently i compared the Playbar and Playbase instore, the Playbar seemed superior to the point im thinking of returning the playbase and getting the playbar. can anyone share their experience.

I would like to set up a small system using KEF LS50 W (wireless) speakers. I will have a connect and use an ipad for the controller. My question is about using a wireless external hard drive. Is it possible to use such a storage device connected to the same router as the Connect and access the music library through the ipad? If yes, are there any specs I need to look for in the wireless external hard drive to make sure it works? Thanks for your help.

Hi, I just got a Playbase and I can really recommend it. It filles up my two room + kitchen apartement well alone and the base is great. However I want to extend it to a home theatre AND a full music experience. I`m really impressed with the base sound so I wonder if I need a sub at all? But at least I need two rear speakers, should I get two Play 1 or two Play 3? I have learned that two Play 5 would be the best in the living room for music, but now I want to combine with the Playbase and get both the home theatre and music as good as possible. Then I need at least another Play 1 or 3 for kitchen and bedroom.
