I have mixed feelings about the music playing abilities of the Beam. Sometimes it’s quite impressive, and at other times I’ve been thinking something sounded off. Then I finally found a song where I could easily identify and reproduce a section where my Beam falls flat. With the song “Hope She’ll Be Happier” by Bill Withers at 2:37 in (this is the song in the Bill Withers Essentials playlist on Apple Music); When he hits a certain pitch and holds it for a while, the sound starts to get very distorted. I’ve played this section at about 50% volume. Do you guys hear this as well, or does it sound fine on your end?
I have seen a separate thread on a 3rd party soundbar being used to integrate with Sonos Play:1's under https://en.community.sonos.com/what-to-get-228989/sonos-play-1s-in-stereo-and-third-party-klipsch-soundbar-and-wireless-subwoofer-6798309 I am planning to buy a Sony HT-ST5000 (Dolby Atmos Soundbar + Sub) and I was wondering if this can be connected to my current Sonos Play:1's. My proposed set-up would be to use the Sonos Play:1's as my Rear Surround Speakers. Would this be possible via a Sonos Connect? Pardon the newbie questions, but can you let me know if I have envisioned the set-up properly? - TV is connected to Sony HT-ST5000 via HDMI IN - Sony HT-ST5000 Optical to be connected to Sonos:Connect Optical - Sonos:Connect will be able to see the Sonos Play:1's - Configure Sonos Play:1's as Rear Surround Is this correct? I've also include a picture of Sony's HT-ST5000's rear and Sonos:Connect rear. Sony HT-ST5000 Rear Sonos:Connect Appreciate the help of
Hi, I have 2 playbars for my tv’s, plus 3 Playomes dotted around the house. I stream a lot of music, and was wondering if I get a sub, will my music come from it, or is it just the tv sound?
I am trying to find the best (affordable) way to integrate Sonos with my already pre-wired family room sound system. What I have: - 2 rear speakers (pre-wired but not installed yet) with wall volume control. - 2 patio speakers (pre-wired but not installed yet) with wall volume control. - All cabling for these speakers running under TV - 2 Sonos Play 1's in other areas of the house. - Onkyo dual zone stereo receiver. What I want: - The ability to play music via Sonos to all 4 in-wall speakers in family room and patio. And other Play 1's. - The ability to hear my TV sound coming out of all 4 in-wall speakers as well as other Play 1's. My thoughts: - Connect the 4 in wall speakers (family room & patio) to my current stereo receiver. Also connect my TV's digital audio out to that stereo receiver as well. At this point, TV audio should be playing from 4 speakers which I can split into speakers A or B. Then connect that current stereo receiver to a Sonos Connect. I think thi
I've been looking through this very helpful guide but can find no reference to using Panasonic TVs with the Sonos Playbase as a home theatre. Can Panasonic TVs be used with Dolby 5.1 sound?
I keep getting error 1101 setting up a new Play 1. Update required, update error over and over. Restarted modem, restarted speaker , closed app restarted app. Tried wi fi tried Ethernet cable. Nothing works. Tried to reset from scratch, can’t seem to do that. Anyone any ideas?
I really enjoy listening to music through my Sonos speakers but it is not always practical to do so (Sometimes others in the house make a lot of noise, sometimes there are collitions over who wants to listen to what - I was enjoying listening to music in the bedroom then my wife wanted to watch tv.) Also, I live in an apartment so when I want to hear some music at a louder volume, I need to use headphones or do so at a time when teh neighbours are not around. Having a sonos headset that could be connected just like another set of the speakers would be great - They could appear to the controller the same as any other speaker (except for the name and perhaps add them to a room called "roaming") Ideally they would be wireless, over-the-ear style, have the same sonos control buttons on the side (Volume, Play/pause/skip), and possibly be noise cancelling. They could operate just the same as any speaker. For the same sound quality that I am used to with the Sonos range, I would pay
My television setup (design wise) does not accept a playbar in front of it. Now I use the Play 5 for TV sound but want to replace it with a playbar, since I cannot place it in front of my TV I was wondering if it would work (well enough) behind my screen? I've read you can place it upright so I'd like to do that. Would my TV block to much of the sound?
Would love a smart app to interface with my Sonos from my TVs. While investigating some streaming on my TVs this holiday season I noticed Calm Radio, Radio Tune In (Rock Radio and Jazz Radio Stations), SiriusXM, etc. I have subscriptions to all three services. And use them with my Sonos. Since I have a couple Playbars, I was able to run the Smart Apps and then send the music to my other Sonos Speakers. While playing around with this I realized how awesome it would be to just pick up the TV Remote to go to a Sonos Smart App and pick music, group, etc. I also have a Synology NAS with Plex. I could also use the Plex Smart App to play music. Would be awesome to be able to control Sonos from the same type of app without tablet or phone around. Just a dream to make my Sonos system that much more awesome!!!
Please add the ability to create and edit Google Play Music playlists directly from the Sonos Controller. At the moment, the Sonos Controller can read playlists from Google Play Music but the Play Music app needs to be used to create or edit.
Hello, I have a playbase with 2 play ones hooked up as a home theater system. As my tv doesn’t pass 5.1 Dolby, I’ve connected my xfinity x1 cable box and ps3 to the playbase via an optical switch. Everything is working great and I’m getting 5.1 surround. However, here is the problem. My xfinity x1 cable box can’t be turned off with a remote so there is no way to disable the source input. So when I turn off the tv, sound continuous to play from the sonos system. I seemingly have two options, either just mute the system or turn off the switch. I’d hate to have to use the tiny switch remote every time and muting would be more convenient, but I’m concerned about just muting the sonos system. My understanding is that the speakers go into some sort of standby mode when the source input is removed. If I just mute them would they never go to “sleep”? Could it negatively impact the life of the speakers? What are others doing to address this when using a switch? ( outside of a harmon
A friend passed a Sonos play 5 to me and it did not work now. It does not power up, and no light. I searched the community topic. Seems it is a common problem. A lot of play 5 have similar problem either within warranty or several months out of warranty or a few years after purchase. The simple power cord check, reset won't work for almost all play5 no power issue though that is a standard reply by someone with Sonos. Mine neither. I contact Sonos on Twitter and got reply fairly quickly. The solution is return and fix with ~$350 + tax =~$380 due to out of warranty. Too expensive to fix it, the new one is $500. Someone on this community said they fix the issue by replacing a fuse and a rectifier. I opened it and found the fuse is good. Measured by a multi-meter. The rectifier seems is also good. Forward voltage 0.7V. No short diodes. Don't know what to do next. Sigh,
My roomate is moving out of the country at the end of the semester and is selling his Sonos Play:1 for what looks like a good price. Are there different generations of Sonos Play:1 and the latest models are somehow better than the old ones? Or are the firmwares updated on a regular basis via wireless for all Sonos Play:1? I want to make sure this is not instead a crappy deal. What system would you recommend if I want to add stereo? This is mostly to play music from Spotify/Pandora/Playlist from my computer and then ideally sound for Sports games from TV. Should I get a second Play:1? And do I need one of those amp/Connect product? I am not sure the difference. Lastly, is the Sonos One a better product? I don't need that Alexa stuff. Thanks. Kevin
Is it possible to use the iPhone volume keys to control the Sonos app volume?
Hi all! I eventually went for the Beam + 2 One's and I'm super excited, loving it so much. I had some issues when connecting it to my TV, as it did not work with DD 5.0 at the beginning, but after some hard treatment (connecting & reconnecting, switching on and off several times), it did work. My TV is a 2016 Panasonic Viera 50DX730 (4K). After that first struggle I've had no issues when watching TV and movies/series via the Netflix native Panasonic app, and also when streaming movies from my Synology NAS. The Dolby Digital sounds great (I've checked with the app and the input is DD 5.1 all the time). However, when I use my PS4 Pro (currently playing Red Dead Redemption 2), I experience a lag with the sound, which is specially noticeable in shooter games, as the sound of the guns shooting do sound slightly delayed and it's very annoying. I've read that more people had this issues when setting up the Beam, specially with a PS4. Does anyone have a solution after all this time?
Hello, I recently bought a 4th Gen apple TV after having the 3rd Gen for years. I did not know at the time that they dropped the optical from the new model and now I am not able to connect my playbar to my new Apple TV. I have the playbar, sub and 2 x play 1's for Netflix movies etc but I am not now able to use, I can only use for TV sound. I currently have the Apple TV connected to my TV (an old pioneer plasma) via HDMI and then my TV connected to my playbar via optical. Can someone please assists in the best advice to get sound from my new Apple TV to my sonos system?
When Google Assistant eventually makes it onto the Sonos One, will it be possible to integrate with existing chromecast audio groups?
Kitchen—1 Sonos One Speaker. Living Room – (Set up as Surround Sound for TV) 1 Sonos Beam under the TV 2 Sonos One speakers at the back of the room. 1 Sonos Sub at the back of the room. Everything is working peachy. Well, they do drop from time to time. I have changed the wireless router channel, but no better. But…… I just saw an amazing deal for a Play 5 Gen 2 and I purchased it and will have it in two weeks. How in the world should I use this Play 5 Gen 2? My living room setup above is set up for Surround Sound for TV, even though I watch less than 1 hour a month. My main focus is just listening to music through Alexa using Pandora or Amazon music. I'm pretty vanilla. What should I do with this new extra Play 5? Can it be grouped into the living room for watching movies with the two play ones, sub, and beam? When I play music in the living room, would it sound better with all that together, if it works? Or should I move a play one from the kitchen to an empty
Hi. I currently have a Synology Nas with movies and music stored, connected via the router to a Pioneer receiver. Music is played in the living room via the receiver and KEF speakers, and a ropey Phillips IPod dock speaker in the kitchen which connects to the Nas. I want to upgrade and play music throughout the house. I have not been able to confidently find the answer to the question that has been troubling me. To access and play my music from my Nas through the Kefs in the living room and a Sonos 1,3 or 5 in the kitchen, do I need a Connect ? Will the music sync ? If so, then I might be better off getting a Play 5 for the living room ! Many thanks in advance James
Hi there! so i have my beam (and two Sonos One) setup as my computer speaker and sounds AWESOME. I used the included hdmi to optical right into the optical out on the mobo. Switched sourced to digital out on my computer and bam, works great. HOWEVER, I also have a gaming headset where I want to switch audio to every now and then. 1) if i want computer audio to come out of the beam, I have to go into sonos desktop app, choose TV, and then play TV. Kind of annoying and no way to "automate" it or make a macro since isn't a hotkey to make that switch 2) then for some reason, it has issues ever switching back to my headset. even when i stop audio through digital output and choose my headset, sometimes it keeps playing! anyone have Beam and computer experience and how to switch between scenarios? 1) Beam playing computer audio 2) Computer outputting to my headset (no beam involvement) 3) beam streaming from my sonos
need to setup Sonos Beam to work with my Samsung smart TV to allow Beam to control my TV. I went to my Samsung Smart TV, connected Sonos Beam, Chose Anynet+ and asked to discover new devices. The TV found Sonos Beam, but when open the device list to choose one to be enabled by Anynet+, Sonos Beam is not in the device list. I did the same with Fire tv and I selected fire tv in the device list. I unplugged Sonos beam, turned off the TV and started from the beginning. Same result - Sonos beam is not in the device list of Anynet+ after it discovered devices. Any help?
I have got a sonos connect and a Anthem MCA-5 amp buy the amp does seem to have anywhere on it to adjust volume (it is old and heavy) and there is no screen for showing volume. Do I still use variable on the connect or in this case would I use fixed? I tried it one variable but don’t seem to hear anything but I’m worried if I put the connect to fixed that it will blow my speakers or do something else wrong...
I have a Brilliant light switch controller in our master bathroom. It controls the lights and the Sonos ConnectAmp in our master bedroom, that drives speakers in the master bedroom and another pair in the master bathroom (using a Niles speaker selector). If I use the iOS app to move from one playlist to another, I'm asked if I want to add to or replace the queue. When I select a new playlist from the Brilliant device (it only displays my "favorites", so I can only choose playlists listed as favorites), it automatically adds to the queue, so I get a mix of playlists. This is annoying since playlists are collections of songs that are part of a theme (for example, you may have a hard rock playlist and an acoustic guitar playlist). Typically, when you choose a playlist to listen to, you want to listen to that particular group of songs - rarely will you want to mix playlists. Sonos should give you the following options when you change from one playlist to another: (1) always
I am new to the Sonos ecosystem. I decided to jump on the bandwagon following the Apple release of Airplay 2, and the purchase of several HomePods. I liked it that integration so much that I decided to replace my wired 2 Home Theaters with Sonos Beams and various Integrated speakers and subs. I have just purchased the first ensemble for our smaller viewing room, and plan to purchase a second larger system in the next few months for our Movie Room. When programming our Harmony Remote I went to look for a way to activate/toggle Speech Enhancement and Night Sound, to find it is NOT available in Harmony's list of available command options. In researching, I discovered where, for quite some time now, there have been numerous like requests for this functionality for the PlayBar and Playbase. I am shocked that with the release of the Beam, as it is a new product, that Sonos chose to ignore this request and not include it in the Beam. Perhaps I am being assumptive, but may I a
I've recently started getting a "Wireless Range Extender" with my Eero wireless network. Everything still seems to work through - I can play music to all of my Sonos speakers, and group them. I do not have a Sonos Boost or any speaker hard-wired to my router. Anyone else seeing this behavior?
