I have just bought a Samsung Q90R TV to replace my aging but very able Panasonic Plasma TV. My intention was to then upgrade from my Sonos Beam plus 2 Sonos Ones, to the new Arc Soundbar. I chose the Samsung over my preferred LG OLED TV due to potential OLED screen burn-in issues that may or may not have occured. Turns out when reading many reviews of the Samsung TV i missed the fact that users had found that there were issues regarding lip sync when the Samsung TV passes through Dolby Digital from offboard satellite or cable boxes. I use SKY Q to receive and record programmes. The Samsung TV it seems delays the audio when passing through the Dolby Digital signal against the video by approx 60ms causing lip sync error. As Sonos Arc only has one HDMI port like the Beam I won’t be able to view SKY Q with Dolby Digital and Atmos without getting lip sync error. At present I have to use a three into one fibre optical switch so connect my SKY Q audio and TV audio and BlueRay audio into
Hello, During the last month or so I've been developing an app that lets you stream whatever you are playing on your computer to your Sonos devices. There is a delay so the app isn’t that suitable for movies, Skype calls. The main use case is to enable music not otherwise provided in the official app, e.g. live concerts on YouTube, Twitch and what not. The app is open source and completely free. You can download the app for Windows 10 at budgiestream.com I would love to hear feedback on the app
Many Sonos Arc owners are new to Dolby Atmos and are experiencing this immersive audio in their homes for the first time. Going by your personal experience, which Dolby Atmos films or TV shows have sounded the best through your Sonos Arc? It can be from a Blu-ray, UHD 4K Blu-ray, or a streaming app. A few that I have read about, but haven’t personally experienced yet (my Arc is on backorder) are: Blade Runner 2049 (Blu-ray & UHD 4K) Gravity (Diamond Luxe Edition Blu-ray) Mad Max: Fury Road (Blu-ray, UHD 4K) What are some of your favorites?
I have a beam and two one SL’s as surrounds. I want to upgrade and either get a sub to compliment my beam or sell the beam and get the arc. Lower level of my house. Room is 20x15 Can’t decide!
Hi all, I am having numerous issues with my Sonos Arc and was hoping someone could help me out. First involves only getting Atmos from certain sources and not others. I can get Atmos from Netflix as indicated in the program info on screen and on the Sonos phone app. Cannot get Atmos from Amazon Prime video or Disney+. The audio maxes out at 5.1. My Disney+ settings are at the highest quality A/V level. I don’t know of any other app settings to change for either Amazon Prime video or Disney+ that might affect this. Is this happening because I am using the native TV streaming apps? The Sony X950G runs Android OS. Thanks in advance!
I am a Sonos Dealer and Pro AV installer - We have been running into many installations that call for a Sonos Amp powering wired speakers in a Family room Setting. Normally we run an HDMI from the TV ARC Channel to the Sonos AMP HDMI input. Works perfectly and an easy Customer experience using their Providers remote. We have had issues dealing with installations that only have a CAT 5-6 cable running from the TV to an equipment closet where the Sonos AMP will be located. We have tried many HDMI Baluns to get the ARC channel to the AMP with limited success. I have finally found a Balun that passes ARC perfectly and reliably. We used the Vanco EVEXARC unit. This is an FYI since I had trouble finding a product that worked properly. If you are a Dealer and your supplier carries Vanco it is pretty affordable for a specialty Balun. I am sure there may be other Baluns that work but I have stopped looking. Happy Installing !!
I've seen them at best buy and what not, and I know they aren't cheap, but I feel like the cost is mostly about the connectivity and easy of use rather than the audio quality. Is that correct?
Have this issue since Beta - Passed it on but never fixed before S2. See 3 Photos below. Issue is when App is opened the 1st screen comes on & say “searching”. Stays on for 10 - 15 seconds. Then 2nd screen comes on & says “Not Found” & will stay on until I move mouse or press any key & then 3rd screen comes on which is the actual System. This issues goes back to the Beta Project. I have tried deleting app & rebooting to no avail. I have App on iOS & iPadOS with no problem. Works fine. I hope somebody from Sonos is monitoring this discussion???
I’m trying to understand a bit more of how the Trueplay works, and how to get the best out of it, especially in a Sonos home theatre or multi speaker setup with Sub. When scanning a room, do I scan just the areas my ‘ears’ will be , and focus where my ears will be most of the time, ie around the sofa? I’m assume Trueplay does not need to ‘hear’ sounds where my ears won’t be, eg in the corner of a room, above a table, etc. Also, will Trueplay be improved using an external Microphone? I’m sure an external microphone would be better quality than the small built in microphone in an iPhone, but would it improve the Trueplay process?
Opinions sought. I am going to upgrade from my Beam to an Arc. I am concerned that using the Arc in current position of the Beam will essentially undermine getting the best from the Arc. (I am unlikely to change the current layout in the near future) Currently the Beam is mounted under my TV on the wall. The TV is a little deeper along with the wall mount (than usual) and the screen face is about 12 cm out from wall. The Beam sits about 18 cm below the TV. To complicate things further, above the TV/Beam location is a recessed ceiling light (see attached image). So you have the ceiling, but also an oblong “well” 45 cm’s deep starting 70 cm from the vertical wall (window is 1m wide x 1.5m long). The ceiling would be 1.7m from the top of the Arc if it is located where the Beam currently is. If I place the Arc here with these non ideal room elements, am i basically hobbling the arc’s acoustics (& dolby atmos). Or am I over-worrying? Thanks David
I have 20 days left to return my Arc and continue to hear harshness in the treble, lack of midrange, and the unpleasant subtleties when listening to music over movies. With all of the comments, posts, and quotes from the community … there are issues with Arc, hardware and/or software related, with or without the Sub, software update 12.1 and/or Trueplay with or without an older iPhone. Houston we have a problem. I’m interested hearing from Arc owners who are enjoying their purchase. Owners who have either owned a Playbar or Playbase in the past. Maybe I’m crazy or I truly have a defective unit that needs replacement. I’m looking for a sign of hope that will keep me from flat out returning my Arc thus severing the head of my Sonos ecosystem. For owners happy with their Arc … where you at??
I was really excited to hear that Sonos was going to support hi-res audio, but I had a tough S2 transition. After reconfiguring both my main wireless and Sonos networks, I’m able (so far) to hear songs all the way through and have not had a device go missing in days! After this work, S2 still is very, very slow to load. Worse, it seems like a song will start to play before the buffer has enough data. So I will lose the first few seconds, then have a rough few seconds, then have the song settle in. This happens when, say, playing something from Amazon Music on Sonos. It doesn't seem to happen once the queue is up and running, unless songs are skipped and rebuffering is needed. It does not happen with internet radio on Sonos, which is much lower fidelity. It also does not seem to happen with my networked music files on Sonos, maybe because they’re 360K MP3’s and local, don’t need much buffering. We have a very fast network connection and I have no lags at all when using the Amaz
Now that S2 has arrived and folks are sending in their hate mail since their favorite feature wasn’t included (or exactly the way they wanted) I figured I would jump up on a very small and rickety soapbox for my gripe. Sonos has shown they have the UI skills to surface the received audio format information into the UI I’d love to see it expand to the format beyond just the DD/Atmos logo for the Arc. basically, surface any of the information we all currently have to dig into the About My System screen to find. The Atmos logo is a start; complete the process.
I already have a Sonos surround/home theater system built on a Playbase, sub, and two One rear speakers. I got this set-up to replace a failing Bose wireless 5.1 surround system, not realizing it was dependent on an optical sound input, with no HDMI input option, and have never been fully satisfied with it. So I was excited to learn about the ARC (and discover what the HDMI (ARC) input on my Samsung TV is for). I ordered a white ARC soundbar from Amazon on June 20. Amazon showed the release date as July 6 and promised delivery by July 8. Looking forward to it, I upgraded to the Sonos 2 app and read all the set-up info online to minimize headaches on arrival. July 6 came and went with no shipment notification from Amazon. Ditto for July 7. Today I received a notification that shipment would be delayed until sometime between July 30 and Aug. 19. I’m patient. I can wait. But I’m disappointed, and wondering what’s the holdup. Is Sonos so flooded for orders for the ARC soundbar that they ca
Dear Sonos, Just once again voicing my utter frustration with the fact that you are intentionally out dating older products. I've seen your Marketing spin on S1 app versus S2 app, but at the end of the day, you are forcing customers who have spent a ton of money your technology into a compromise situation. Use outdated S1 app (how long until you quite updating this??) or spend more money. I think this is a terrible business practice. Unlike cell phones or computers, people don't invest in larg sums of money in speakers and components with the idea that at one point in the near future they will be obsolete. I can tell you that if you continue down this path, Sonos as a company will slowly work itself towards being obsolete (out of business). Your competitors will eventually provide better solutions without risks of being out dated or requiring additional money spend. If you want to make me a happy customer, take my S1 compatible Connect:Amp and offer me a replacement swap with th

We just had our first SONOS ARC delivered and have started putting it through “real” use. Unfortunately we cannot even get out of the starting gate. The connectivity limitations make it near impossible to use any differently than our 2 aging SONOS PLAYBARs. We have tested using several different devices including 4 smart TVs (Sony and LG with eARC and ARC), Blueray player, Broadband TV set-top box, Media PC and Apple TV. Some of these were just to ‘see if it works’ and not used normally. Here’s the catch - the extremely limited audio formats make the SONOS ARC impossible to use via an ARC or eARC.
I’ve failed to add my Sonos Port devices to my Logitech Harmony Elite. The Logitech app finds the Port devices on the network, but then gives an error saying “D1000: Failed to save your device information to the server.” Has anyone had succes adding a Port to their Logitech Harmony remote?
iOS Just updated, but don’t know what is new.
I know this is a minor thing, but I’m bugged by the long name under the new S1 icon on iOS. One of the things I love most about Sonos products is the clean look, so the new ...’s on my home screen are a peeve. If it says S1 on the icon, no need to say it underneath as well. Anyone else?
My main source is Apple TV 4K and I can't get any ATMOS for it to my 55 inch Sony X930E. Bummer since thats my main source for all content. Using the built in TV apps, which I normally never use, I can get ATMOS from Amazon Prime and Vudu Jack Ryan sounds great in ATMOS with ARC, Sonos sub, and One SL rears. My understanding is the Fire TV has more apps that do ATMOS with the ARC like Netflix, Disney Plus, and Amazon Prime. I don't really want to use Fire TV though. Even though my TV is only a few years old I am thinking about getting a new one that does eARC. Newer ones also do Airplay 2, Siri, and iTunes which I also want to maybe it's worth it to upgrade the TV. Anyone know what format Amazon Prime uses for ATMOS? Apparently my TV can't deal with iTunes ATMOS which uses MAT and would been to be converted by the TV to do DD+ to play on the ARC. iTunes movies have great quality all the way around with a lot of ATMOS titles so I'd really prefer to use that or iTunes built into a TV.
Hello, Over the past years, I have managed all my music using iTunes, i.e. converting albums to the proper format and creating playlists. During all those years, I had to convert the playlists (the m3u files) from the Unicode UTF-8 encoding to ASCII/ANSI (this is the default Windows Encoding) coding since the Sonos players do not support UTF8. This is a multi-step process which is very prone to errors (don’t ask me why since this shouldn’t be necessary at all). ASCII is well and truly dead and buried. See this quote from https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100927014115AAiRExF: "Nowadays both ASCII and ANSI character sets are most effectively obsolete as we now have Unicode which currently provides 107,156 characters in a single character set and is expanding. See http://www.unicode.org/charts/ ." Other sites with similar wording can be found. My question is: when do you, Sonos, finally change the software of the players (I have two, the Conne
I was lucky enough to pick up my Arc preorder from a store in Sydney today. I’ve set it up and it’s paired with a Panasonic 65” GZ1000 (which only has ARC, not eARC). Here are some initial observations. Apple TV 4K - YES - confirming I’m getting Dolby Atmos via ARC while watching 4K iTunes movies Built in Apps - YES I’m getting Dolby Atmos from built in apps such as Netflix and Prime The Bass on the Arc surprised me. I’m adding a Sub Gen3 this week regardless - but I can see how some people won’t need to add a Sub for everyday viewing The dialogue is very clear - I thought the speech enhancement was on by default when I first set it up cos it was very clear - but it wasn’t on, which was a pleasant surprise With the GZ1000 I haven’t seen any lip sync issues yet on either FTA channels or from the Apple TV 4K
I broke the optical port on my playbar some time ago by pushing the optical lead in too hard and the door broke off. Having messed around with blutack and sticky tape to try to keep the optical lead in place unsatisfactorily, I have recently done a more permanent fix that I would like to share. It involves two things: i) a right angle or 90 degree SPDIF/Toslink connector (get it on Amazon), ii) Milliput epoxy putty (also available on Amazon). The aim is to bond the connector rigidly to the back to the Playbar. Step 1: The putty is like Plasticine, but it sets hard. There are two sticks in the packet and you have to knead them together to activate the putty. You need about 1 inch of each (has to be equal amounts) to do this. Knead them to until the putty is malleable and uniform in colour. Step 2: Put the optical lead in the right angle connector and hold it in the broken optical port to check that you can hear sound through it and it is working. Step 3: Turn the Playbar face down so
I don’t know that the way S2 handles room selection is ideal. (The following is all based on having S2 set to ask me what speakers/rooms to play on after “a while.”) When I select something to play, the speaker/room selection card pops up and asks where I want to start playing my selection. I have a Play:1 in the kitchen and a pair of Play:5s + Sub in our living room, all grouped as my “Main Floor” and another pair set up as my “Upstairs.” If I was previously listening to music using Main Floor, the card still has those 2 speaker sets individually selected, but it does not seem to remember that those 2 speakers are also a group. (Main Floor shows as unselected.) Things are further compounded if I go to select Upstairs. It simply adds my upstairs pair to the 2 “ungrouped” speakers that were previously playing. On top of that, if I truly did want to play music across all 4 speaker sets, that would actually be my entire Sonos set-up (thus, “Everywhere”) except Everywhere does not get ac
