Hi Everyone

We moderators of the community - @Corry P@Jamie A & @Sotiris C. - wanted to take an opportunity to explain some of what is currently happening on the community.

First of all, we value all the feedback you are providing about the new Sonos App. We hear you. Feedback is coming in fast and thick, however - for understandable reasons - and to be frank, we are having trouble just keeping up with it all. For this reason, some topics that have not yet been replied to will go unanswered. We will, however, do our best to amalgamate some of these separate threads into bigger, related threads (such as one big thread for Alarm complaints and another for Queue Management) to be answered en-mass. The threads that are feedback on other aspects of the new app will be merged with this post.

Threads that describe issues such as missing rooms and app crashes (those that are not just feedback, in other words) will be answered, as will threads not relating to the new app in anyway, but these will take a bit longer than normal.

Please be aware that we are reading every post, we are recording and collating all feedback, and all of it will be passed over to the app software development team. In addition, we are doing our best to identify previously unidentified issues and report them to our technical teams.

We know many of you are concerned about certain features going missing, so let us take this opportunity to say that the following features are coming back:

  • Alarms management
  • Sleep timers
  • Queue management
  • Playlist editing

In addition and contrary to some speculation, local Music Library is not going anywhere, though SMBv1 support has been permanently removed. Local Music Library searching is something that is still being worked on.

We’d also like to thank everyone who has taken it upon themselves to help others here with their questions and concerns - we appreciate you all!

Thanks for listening - take care of yourselves, and each other.

Combined threads:

General feedback (not relating specifically to those below):

Queue management:

Alarms:

Playlists:

Please note that there is an official statement that can be read here.

I have 3 amps and 17 speakers and I am seriously considering replacing the lot with a product like BlueSound that does not make rookie mistakes like this. It is really too bad. It used to be a decent product. They can save some of it save it by posting the old app and letting us downgrade.

Whoever did QC and app testing on the new app, should be fired. As founder and CEO of a software company in the public sector, I have seen plenty botched releases, but nothing like this one. There is no excuse for releasing something this bad. They should be ashamed of themselves.

@kd nyegaard

Bluesound speakers have soft touch plastic which can deteriorate into sticky mess after 2 years - just sayin' 😜

Any good reason why recently played is blank and I cannot add anything to favorites?

No. 😁

Any good reason why recently played is blank and I cannot add anything to favorites?

For your recently played list, assuming you’ve tried playing Albums/Tracks etc. already and they’re still not showing, try powering off the controllers associated player mentioned in the ‘About’ box. Let the controller switch its association and then try playing some Albums/Tracks again.

If that does not sort it, then goto the user Account Settings in the App, select ‘Data & Privacy’ and toggle off ‘Use Personalization Services’ wait a short time and toggle the feature back on again and see if that fixes it.

Does anybody know a good alternative to Sonos? Does anybody want a Sonos setup cheap? I’ve had it! After this “upgrade” I can’t even get Sonos app to recognize my system … really?!?!! What a joke. I shouldn’t have to backload previous software versions to make this work, wasting my time and raising my frustration level. Doesn’t seem there are actual software developers working for this company, if so they need to be fired!

Nope.

After the app update, one of my speakers dropped off the app and I can’t get it back on.  I put the other two in a “group” and they can’t be used individually anymore.  The new app format is not user friendly and so much worse than the original.  What were you thinking???

Try signing out the App and back in again and if no joy after that, it maybe best to first reproduce the issue and/or immediately submit a Sonos system diagnostic report from within the Sonos App, note it’s reference and then contact/chat with Sonos Support via this LINK to discuss the matter in detail and see what the Staff can perhaps then suggest to resolve the matter.

Sonophone works for me now. its 2 euro, so it be...

Can I get the thousands of dollars invested in sonos back so I can change companies?  Every change it gets worse.

Just give us access to the previous version so that those of us with iPhones, who don’t have the ability to rollback the app currently, can download it.

I’m not really interested in being a beta tester for Sonos.

I wish Sonos made you pay a service fee. Everyone would cancel and then maybe this is would get better, maybe.

Nope. I don't have the time to report all that is wrong with this update. I managed to revert to a previous version of the app. I'll wait until a stable, working version is released.

WHERE IS THE SENIOR MANAGEMENT ON THIS ISSUE?  Are they not concerned with losing Customers?  Is Sonos really patting itself on the back about how “ambitious” they are?

  1. Poor Customer Experience: This unsatisfactory experience is prompting customers to seek alternatives. With subpar support for your convoluted software releases, each disappointment mentioned in thousands of posts chips away at Sonos customer loyalty.
  2. Lack of Engagement: Failure to engage your customers on major mistakes like this leads to detachment. Without rapid responsiveness to our needs, we are feeling neglected and we will eventually drift toward your competitors.
  3. Unrealistic Expectations:  You thought we would love this new release? Do you seek Beta testing feedback before a major rollout? When a product falls way short like one, you are breeding Customer discontent.

Is the ability to link Sonos to Apple HomeKit coming back? Several more issues mostly covered above.

Also, I will second the suggestion that you go back to the previous version of the app until you get all the issues with this one fixed and do some proper user testing on it before releasing it to the public. You have in effect hobbled my system.

It’s not on the coming back list for May or June. In fairness there are dozens and dozens of issues so it might be just not disclosed. Or it’s so far down the list it’s gonna be a while. Or maybe never.

To me local music library was everything.

I carefully ripped about 1600 of my CD’s many of which are specific versions and not on Streaming services and I do not want streaming services. I thought the new search on the previous app was in test mode as it didn’t search local libraries so I never used it. I didn’t realize the new app would only use this “new” version of search so now I cant search the local library at all.

As for browsing music, it is a nightmare. My Listen Flow is now totally wrecked.

Sad to say I have now listed my Arc, Sub Gen 3, 2 Moves, 2 IKEA Lamps (used as rears) and my Sonos Roam. Also cancelling my purchase of 2 Era 300’s which I was saving up for.

As a former Product Owner at a Bank on a Digital Transformation project to update the Bank apps I can say that we would have never approved this app as it does not have feature parity.
Perhaps Sonos have spread themselves too thin but either way I am out.

Apparently, ‘testing’ is completely superfluous when you’ve got checks notes] ‘research’.
(That response from Sonos is a leading nominee for the coveted “Facepalm of the Year Award”)

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature of the new app 🤣

Do others have an issue with Sonos and iOS?

That’s a weirdly non-specific question, considering where we are currently.

Well, have you read anything in this thread or any of the other recent threads? If not, I suggest you do. It should answer your question.

I’m also a little surprised that someone hasn’t chosen to re-quote the whole of @User438561’s original posts here too.. ha ha.

Sorry but they did make me chuckle.😂

It’s not specific because it’s literally *everything*. Has constant trouble recognizing speakers and sometimes the bridge, new app update won’t pause music, any actions (eg next song) may not work and if it does, has a 10-15 second lag time (same with volume). It also did the same thing on my wife’s phone, so idk if it’s iOS or what’s going on, but it’s annoying and totally aggravating.

I can't even mix in more than one playlist it will only play one playlist at a time. I seriously hope the developers find a new job. They clearly never use Sonos have no idea what we want. They should have left the app the way it was and started a new one. This is at the point of class action lawsuit material completely disabling things that we have taken for granted for years we spent more money upgrading Hardware multiple times and now we have garbage.

The new app is an unmitigated disaster. I’m a longtime Sonos customer, but this is so ill-conceived that a I fear for the future of the product line.

Maybe there's a company that enables us to use sonos equipment without using the sonos app??

I can't seem to play more than one song in a row. Used to shuffle songs from an album or artist, and now it doesn't work. Can't add to the queue. This sucks.

Also, miss the sleep timer. I used that every day. All my tune in stations disappeared. Emailed the CEO twice yesterday. I hope they fix this soon.

Like everyone else , I went back to previous version (Android ) there is too much missing options

I don't understand why you release an unfinished update ?

I went back too but it's not great...even the old rollback is now glitchy....cmon sonos....
